Abstract:In this paper we begin the study of Schur analysis and de Branges-Rovnyak spaces in the framework of Fueter hyperholomorphic functions. The difference with other approaches is that we consider the class of functions spanned by Appell-like polynomials. This approach is very efficient from various points of view, for example in operator theory, and allows to make connections with the recently developed theory of slice polyanalytic functions. We tackle a number of problems: we describe a Hardy space, Schur multipliers and related results. We also discuss Blaschke functions, Herglotz multipliers and their associated kernels and Hilbert spaces. Finally, we consider the counterpart of the half-space case, and the corresponding Hardy space, Schur multipliers and Carathéodory multipliers.

Abstract:Braverman and Kazhdan proposed a conjecture, later refined by Ngô and broadened to the framework of spherical varieties by Sakellaridis, that asserts that affine spherical varieties admit Schwartz spaces, Fourier transforms, and Poisson summation formulae. The first author in joint work with B.~Liu and later the first two authors proved these conjectures for certain spherical varieties $Y$ built out of triples of quadratic spaces. However, in these works the Fourier transform was only proven to exist. In the present paper we give, for the first time, an explicit formula for the Fourier transform on $Y.$ We also prove that it is unitary in the nonarchimedean case. As preparation for this result, we give explicit formulae for Fourier transforms on Braverman-Kazhdan spaces attached to maximal parabolic subgroups of split, simple, simply connected groups. These Fourier transforms are of independent interest, for example, from the point of view of analytic number theory.

Abstract:We investigate the space $X$ of unitary hermitian matrices over $\frp$-adic fields through spherical functions. First we consider Cartan decomposition of $X$, and give precise representatives for fields with odd residual characteristic, i.e., $2\notin \frp$. In the latter half we assume odd residual characteristic, and give explicit formulas of typical spherical functions on $X$, where Hall-Littlewood symmetric polynomials of type $C_n$ appear as a main term, parametrization of all the spherical functions. By spherical Fourier transform, we show the Schwartz space $\SKX$ is a free Hecke algebra $\hec$-module of rank $2^n$, where $2n$ is the size of matrices in $X$, and give the explicit Plancherel formula on $\SKX$.

Abstract: According to Sakellaridis, many zeta integrals in the theory of automorphic forms can be produced or explained by appropriate choices of a Schwartz space of test functions on a spherical homogeneous space, which are in turn dictated by the geometry of affine spherical embeddings. We pursue this perspective by developing a local counterpart and try to explicate the functional equations. These constructions are also related to the $L^2$-spectral decomposition of spherical homogeneous spaces in view of the Gelfand-Kostyuchenko method. To justify this viewpoint, we prove the convergence of $p$-adic local zeta integrals under certain premises, work out the case of prehomogeneous vector spaces and re-derive a large portion of Godement-Jacquet theory. Furthermore, we explain the doubling method and show that it fits into the paradigm of $L$-monoids developed by L. Lafforgue, B. C. Ngo et al., by reviewing the constructions of Braverman and Kazhdan (2002). In the global setting, we give certain speculations about global zeta integrals, Poisson formulas and their relation to period integrals.

Abstract:The purpose of this work is to provide applications of real, complex, and functional analysis to moment, interpolation, functional equations, and optimization problems. Firstly, the existence of the unique solution for a two-dimensional full Markov moment problem is characterized on the upper half-plane. The issue of the unknown form of nonnegative polynomials on R×R+ in terms of sums of squares is solved using polynomial approximation by special nonnegative polynomials, which are expressible in terms of sums of squares. The main new element is the proof of Theorem 1, based only on measure theory and on a previous approximation-type result. Secondly, the previous construction of a polynomial solution is completed for an interpolation problem with a finite number of moment conditions, pointing out a method of determining the coefficients of the solution in terms of the given moments. Here, one uses methods of symmetric matrix theory. Thirdly, a functional equation having nontrivial solution (defined implicitly) and a consequence are discussed. Inequalities, the implicit function theorem, and elements of holomorphic functions theory are applied. Fourthly, the constrained optimization of the modulus of some elementary functions of one complex variable is studied. The primary aim of this work is to point out the importance of symmetry in the areas mentioned above.

Abstract:In this research, we investigate some approximation theorems for -space on the Laguerre hypergroup which is the fundamental manifold of the radial functions space for the Heisenberg group. An analogue of Bernstein's theorem is shown. Some inverse theorems of Jackson–Stechkin in terms of best approximations for the moduli of smoothness defined using generalized translation operators on the Laguerre hypergroup are obtained. To prove these theorems, we use functions of bounded spectrum as a tool of approximation.

Abstract:We continue our previous work studying critical exponent semilinear elliptic (and subelliptic) problems which generalize the classical Yamabe problem. In [3] the focus was on metric-measure spaces with an `almost smooth' structure, with stratified spaces furnishing the key examples. The criterion for solvability there is phrased in terms of a strict inequality of the global Yamabe invariant with a `local Yamabe invariant', which captures information about the local singular structure. All of this is generalized here to the setting of Dirichlet spaces which admit a Sobolev inequality and satisfy a few other mild hypotheses. Applications include a new approach to the nonspherical part of the CR Yamabe problem.

Abstract:Let $X=G/H$ be a reductive homogeneous space with $H$ noncompact, endowed with a $G$-invariant pseudo-Riemannian structure. Let $L$ be a reductive subgroup of $G$ acting properly on $X$ and $\Gamma$ a torsion-free discrete subgroup of $L$. Under the assumption that the complexification $X_{\mathbb C}$ is $L_{\mathbb C}$-spherical, we prove an explicit correspondence between spectral analysis on the standard locally homogeneous space $X_{\Gamma}=\Gamma\backslash X$ and on $\Gamma\backslash L$ via branching laws for the restriction to $L$ of irreducible representations of $G$. In particular, we prove that the pseudo-Riemannian Laplacian on $X_{\Gamma}$ is essentially self-adjoint, and that it admits an infinite point spectrum when $X_{\Gamma}$ is compact or $\Gamma\subset L$ is arithmetic. The proof builds on structural results for invariant differential operators on spherical homogeneous spaces with overgroups.

Abstract:In the present paper, we develop geometric analysis techniques on Cayley graphs of finitely generated abelian groups to study the polynomial growth harmonic functions. We provide a geometric analysis proof of the classical Heilbronn theorem (Heilbronn in Proc Camb Philos Soc 45:194–206, 1949 ) and the recent Nayar theorem (Nayar in Bull Pol Acad Sci Math 57:231–242, 2009 ) on polynomial growth harmonic functions on lattices ℤ ^n that does not use a representation formula for harmonic functions. In the abelian group case, by Yau’s gradient estimate, we actually give a simplified proof of a general polynomial growth harmonic function theorem of (Alexopoulos in Ann Probab 30:723–801, 2002 ). We calculate the precise dimension of the space of polynomial growth harmonic functions on finitely generated abelian groups by linear algebra, rather than by Floquet theory Kuchment and Pinchover (Trans Am Math Soc 359:5777–5815, 2007 ). While the Cayley graph not only depends on the abelian group, but also on the choice of a generating set, we find that this dimension depends only on the group itself. Moreover, we also calculate the dimension of solutions to higher order Laplace operators.

Abstract:We investigate the existence of local holomorphic solutions $Y$ of linear partial differential equations in three complex variables whose coefficients are singular along an analytic variety $\Theta$ in $\mathbb{C}^{2}$. The coefficients are written as linear combinations of powers of a solution $X$ of some first order nonlinear partial differential equation following an idea we have initiated in a previous work \cite{mast}. The solutions $Y$ are shown to develop singularities along $\Theta$ with estimates of exponential type depending on the growth's rate of $X$ near the singular variety. We construct these solutions with the help of series of functions with infinitely many variables which involve derivatives of all orders of $X$ in one variable. Convergence and bounds estimates of these series are studied using a majorant series method which leads to an auxiliary functional equation that contains differential operators in infinitely many variables. Using a fixed point argument, we show that these functional equations actually have solutions in some Banach spaces of formal power series.

Abstract:We obtain global analytic hypoellipticity for a class of differential operators that can be expressed as a zero-order perturbation of a sum of squares of vector fields with real-analytic coefficients on compact Lie groups. The key conditions are: the vector fields must satisfy Hörmander's finite type condition; there exists a closed subgroup whose action leaves the vector fields invariant; and the operator must be elliptic in directions transversal to the action of the subgroup. This paves the way for further studies on the regularity of sums of squares on principal fiber bundles.

Abstract:This paper considers bounded linear radial operators on the polyanalytic Fock spaces ℱn$$\mathcal {F}_n$$ and on the true-polyanalytic Fock spaces ℱ(n)$$\mathcal {F}_{(n)}$$. The orthonormal basis of normalized complex Hermite polynomials plays a crucial role in this study; it can be obtained by the orthogonalization of monomials in z and z¯$$\overline {z}$$. First, using this basis, we decompose the von Neumann algebra of radial operators, acting in ℱn$$\mathcal {F}_n$$, into the direct sum of some matrix algebras, i.e. radial operators are represented as matrix sequences. Secondly, we prove that the radial operators, acting in ℱ(n)$$\mathcal {F}_{(n)}$$, are diagonal with respect to the basis of the complex Hermite polynomials belonging to ℱ(n)$$\mathcal {F}_{(n)}$$. We also provide direct proofs of the fundamental properties of ℱn$$\mathcal {F}_n$$ and an explicit description of the C*-algebra generated by Toeplitz operators in ℱ(n)$$\mathcal {F}_{(n)}$$, whose generating symbols are radial, bounded, and have finite limits at infinity.

Abstract:We define a class of spaces on which one may generalise the notion of compactness following motivating examples from higher-dimensional number theory. We establish analogues of several well-known topological results (such as Tychonoff's Theorem) for such spaces. We also discuss several possible applications of this framework, including the theory of harmonic analysis on non-locally compact groups.

Abstract:In this paper, we establish the Fefferman--Stein type inequality for area integral and non-tangential maximal function on the Shilov boundary studied by Nagel and Stein in 2004. The technique here is inspired by Fefferman--Stein (1972) and Merryfield (1985) but we bypass the use of Fourier or group structure as these were not available on the polynomial domains of finite type. Direct applications include the maximal function characterisation of product Hardy space and the weak type endpoint estimate for product Calderón--Zygmund operators (such as the Cauchy--Szegő projection) on the Shilov boundary.

Abstract:This paper focuses on spectral distribution of kernel matrices related to radial basis functions. By relating a contemporary finite-dimensional linear algebra problem to a classical problem on infinite-dimensional linear integral operator, the paper shows how the spectral distribution of a kernel matrix relates to the smoothness of the underlying kernel function. The asymptotic behaviour of the eigenvalues of a infinite-dimensional kernel operator are studied from a perspective of low rank approximation—approximating an integral operator in terms of Fourier series or Chebyshev series truncations. Further, we study how the spectral distribution of interpolation matrices of an infinite smooth kernel with flat limit depends on the geometric property of the underlying interpolation points. In particularly, the paper discusses the analytic eigenvalue distribution of Gaussian kernels, which has important application on stably computing of Gaussian radial basis functions.
