Abstract:First, this paper provides a new proof for the expression of the generalized first order Melnikov function on piecewise smooth differential systems with multiply straight lines. Then, by using the Melnikov function, we consider the limit cycle bifurcation problem of a 3-piecewise near Hamiltonian system with two switching lines, obtaining \begin{document}$ 2n+3[\frac{n+1}{2}] $\end{document} limit cycles near the double generalized homoclinic loop.

Abstract:We introduce an infinite set of integer mappings that generalize the well-known Collatz-Ulam mapping and we conjecture that an infinite subset of these mappings feature the remarkable property of the Collatz conjecture, namely that they converge to unity irrespective of which positive integer is chosen initially.

Abstract:Let G be a graph whose edges are labeled by positive integers. Label each vertex with an integer and suppose if two vertices are joined by an edge, the vertex labels are congruent to each other modulo the edge label. The set of vertex labels satisfying this condition is called a generalized spline. Gilbert, Polster, and Tymoczko recently defined generalized splines based on work on polynomial splines by Billera, Rose, Haas, Goresky-Kottwitz-Machperson, and many others. We focus on generalized splines on $n$-cycles. We construct a particularly nice basis for the module of splines on $n$-cycles. As an application, we construct generalized splines on star graphs, wheel graphs, and complete graphs.

Abstract:Dumortier and Roussarie proposed a conjecture in their paper (2009, Discrete Con. Dyn. Sys., 2,723-781): For any \begin{document}$ q\in {\mathbb{N}} $\end{document} , the Abelian integrals \begin{document}$ J_{2j+1}(h) = \int_{\gamma_h}x^{2j-1}\,\mathrm dy $\end{document} , \begin{document}$ j = 0, 1, 2, \cdots, q $\end{document} , form a strict Chebyshev system on intervals \begin{document}$ h\in (0, \frac{1}{2}] $\end{document} , where \begin{document}$ \gamma_h = \{(x, y)| \mathrm e^{-2y}(y+\frac{1}{2}-x^2) = h\} $\end{document} . If this conjecture holds, then they obtain the precise upper bound of the number of limit cycles that appear near a slow-fast Hopf point of any codimension. In the present paper we develop a method to estimate the number of zeros of Abelian integrals and prove this conjecture.

Abstract:In this paper, a generalization of fixed-point mappings with an iterate at a point in complete metric spaces is shown, using the notions of T-closed sets and i-P-regularity/d-P-regularity, proving conditions for the existence and uniqueness of the fixed point. Examples are provided to illustrate the results and an application to coupled fixed points is shown.

On a family of universal cycles for multi-dimensional permutations

Abstract:A universal cycle (u-cycle) for permutations of length $n$ is a cyclic word, any size $n$ window of which is order-isomorphic to exactly one permutation of length $n$, and all permutations of length $n$ are covered. It is known that u-cycles for permutations exist, and they have been considered in the literature in several papers from different points of view. In this paper, we show how to construct a family of u-cycles for multi-dimensional permutations, which is based on applying an appropriate greedy algorithm. Our construction is a generalisation of the greedy way by Gao et al. to construct u-cycles for permutations. We also note the existence of u-cycles for $d$-dimensional matrices.

Abstract:SIAM Journal on Discrete Mathematics, Volume 38, Issue 3, Page 2416-2428, September 2024. In 1984, Erdős conjectured that the number of pentagons in any triangle-free graph on [math] vertices is at most [math], which is sharp by the balanced blow-up of a pentagon. This was proved by Grzesik, and independently by Hatami et al. As an extension of this result for longer cycles, we prove that for each odd [math], the balanced blow-up of [math] (uniquely) maximizes the number of [math]-cycles among [math]-free graphs on [math] vertices, as long as [math] is sufficiently large. We also show that this is no longer true if [math] is not assumed to be sufficiently large. Our result strengthens results of Grzesik and Kielak who proved that for each odd [math], the balanced blow-up of [math] maximizes the number of [math]-cycles among graphs with a given number of vertices and no odd cycles of length less than [math]. We further show that if [math] and [math] are odd and [math] is sufficiently large compared to [math], then the balanced blow-up of [math] does not asymptotically maximize the number of [math]-cycles among [math]-free graphs on [math] vertices. This disproves a conjecture of Grzesik and Kielak.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove that the statement: ``The (Generalized) Hodge Conjecture holds for codimension-two cycles on a smooth projective variety $X$" is a birationally invariant statement, that is, if the statement is true for $X$, it is also true for all smooth varieties $X'$ which are birationally equivalent to $X$. We also prove the analogous result for 1-cycles. As direct corollaries, the Hodge Conjecture holds for smooth rational projective manifolds with dimension less than or equal to five, and, the Generalized Hodge Conjecture holds for smooth rational projective manifolds with dimension less than or equal to four.

Abstract:For a set of integers $I$, we define a $q$-ary $I$-cycle to be a assignment of the symbols 1 through $q$ to the integers modulo $q^n$ so that every word appears on some translate of $I$. This definition generalizes that of de Bruijn cycles, and opens up a multitude of questions. We address the existence of such cycles, discuss ``reduced'' cycles (ones in which the all-zeroes string need not appear), and provide general bounds on the shortest sequence which contains all words on some translate of $I$. We also prove a variant on recent results concerning decompositions of complete graphs into cycles and employ it to resolve the case of $|I|=2$ completely.

Abstract:We study a counting version of Cycle Double Cover Conjecture. We discuss why it is more interesting to count circuits (i.e., graphs isomorphic to Ck for some k ) instead of cycles (graphs with all degrees even). We give an almost‐exponential lower bound for graphs with a surface embedding of representativity at least 4. We also prove an exponential lower bound for planar graphs. We conjecture that any bridgeless cubic graph has at least 2n/2−1 circuit double covers and we show an infinite class of graphs for which this bound is tight.

Abstract:In this paper, the number of limit cycles in a family of polynomial systems was studied by the bifurcation methods. With the help of a computer algebra system (e.g., Maple 7.0), we obtain that the least upper bound for the number of limit cycles appearing in a global bifurcation of systems (2.1) and (2.2) is 5n + 5 + (1 − (−1)n)/2 for c ≠ 0 and n for c ≡ 0.

Abstract:Let an odd integer $\mathcal{X}$ be expressed as $\left\{\sum\limits_{M > m}b_M2^M\right\}+2^m-1,$ where $b_M\in\{0,1\}$ and $2^m-1$ is referred to as the Governor. In Collatz-type functions, a high index Governor is eventually reduced to $2^1-1$. For the $3\mathcal{Z}+1$ sequence, the Governor occurring in the Trivial cycle is $2^1-1$, while for the $5\mathcal{Z}+1$ sequence, the Trivial Governors are $2^2-1$ and $2^1-1$. Therefore, in these specific sequences, the Collatz function reduces the Governor $2^m - 1$ to the Trivial Governor $2^{\mathcal{T}} - 1$. Once this Trivial Governor is reached, it can evolve to a higher index Governor through interactions with other terms. This feature allows $\mathcal{X}$ to reappear in a Collatz-type sequence, since $2^m - 1 = 2^{m - 1} + \cdots + 2^{\mathcal{T} + 1} + 2^{\mathcal{T}}+(2^{\mathcal{T}}-1).$ Thus, if $\mathcal{X}$ reappears, at least one odd ancestor of $\left\{\sum\limits_{M > m}b_M2^M\right\}+2^{m-1}+\cdots+2^{\mathcal{T}+1}+2^{\mathcal{T}}+(2^{\mathcal{T}}-1)$ must have the Governor $2^m-1$. Ancestor mapping shows that all odd ancestors of $\mathcal{X}$ have the Trivial Governor for the respective Collatz sequence. This implies that odd integers that repeat in the $3\mathcal{Z} + 1$ sequence have the Governor $2^1 - 1$, while those forming a repeating cycle in the $5\mathcal{Z} + 1$ sequence have either $2^2 - 1$ or $2^1 - 1$ as the Governor. Successor mapping for the $3\mathcal{Z} + 1$ sequence further indicates that there are no auxiliary cycles, as the Trivial Governor is always transformed into a different index Governor. Similarly, successor mapping for the $5\mathcal{Z} + 1$ sequence reveals that the smallest odd integers forming an auxiliary cycle are smaller than $2^5$. Finally, attempts to identify integers that diverge for the $3\mathcal{Z} + 1$ sequence suggest that no such integers exist.

Abstract:The family of cycle completable graphs has several cryptomorphic descriptions, the equivalence of which has heretofore been proven by a laborious implication-cycle that detours through a motivating matrix completion problem. We give a concise proof, partially by introducing a new characterization. Then we generalize this family to ``$k$-quasichordal'' graphs, with three natural characterizations.

Abstract:Let $\mathbf{G}=\{G_1, \ldots, G_m\}$ be a graph collection on a common vertex set $V$ of size $n$ such that $\delta(G_i) \geq (1+o(1))n/2$ for every $i \in [m]$. We show that $\mathbf{G}$ contains every Hamilton cycle pattern. That is, for every map $\chi: [n] \to [m]$ there is a Hamilton cycle whose $i$-th edge lies in $G_{\chi(i)}$.

The maximum number of odd cycles in a planar graph

Abstract:How many copies of a fixed odd cycle, $C_{2m+1}$, can a planar graph contain? We answer this question asymptotically for $m\in\{2,3,4\}$ and prove a bound which is tight up to a factor of $3/2$ for all other values of $m$. This extends the prior results of Cox--Martin and Lv et al. on the analogous question for even cycles. Our bounds result from a reduction to the following maximum likelihood question: which probability mass $\mu$ on the edges of some clique maximizes the probability that $m$ edges sampled independently from $\mu$ form either a cycle or a path?

Abstract:Universal cycles, such as De Bruijn cycles, are cyclic sequences of symbols that represent every combinatorial object from some family exactly once as a consecutive subsequence. Graph universal cycles are a graph analogue of universal cycles introduced in 2010. We introduce graph universal partial cycles, a more compact representation of graph classes, which use “do not know” edges. We show how to construct graph universal partial cycles for labeled graphs, threshold graphs, and permutation graphs. For threshold graphs and permutation graphs, we demonstrate that the graph universal cycles and graph universal partial cycles are closely related to universal cycles and compressed universal cycles, respectively. Using the same connection, for permutation graphs, we define and prove the existence of an s-overlap form of graph universal cycles. We also prove the existence of a generalized form of graph universal cycles for unlabeled graphs.
