Abstract:We obtain quenched almost sure invariance principle (with convergence rate) for Random Young Tower. We apply our result to i.i.d perturbations of non-uniformly expanding maps. In particular, we answer one open question in \cite{BBM}.

Abstract:We consider a random walk on a random graph (V, E), where V is the set of open sites under i.i.d. Bernoulli site percolation on the d-dimensional integer set Z(d) with d>2, and the transition probabilities of the walk are generated by i.i.d. random conductances (positive numbers) assigned to the edges in E. This random walk in random environments has long range jumps and is reversible. We prove the quenched invariance principle for this walk when the random conductances are unbounded from above but uniformly bounded from zero by taking the corrector approach. To this end, we prove a metric comparison between the graph metric and the Euclidean metric on the graph (V, E), an estimation of a first-passage percolation and an almost surely weighted Poincare inequality on (V, E), which are used to prove the quenched heat kernel estimations for the random walk.

Abstract:Consider the invariance principle for a random walk with random environment (denoted by $\mu$) in time on $\bfR$ in a weak quenched sense. We show that a sequence of the random probability measures on $\bfR$ generated by a bounded Lipschitz functional $f$ and $\mu$ will converge in distribution to another random probability measures, which is related to $f$ and two independent Brownian motions. The upper bound of the convergence rate has been obtained. We also explain that in general, this convergence can not be strengthened to the almost surely sense.

Abstract:We consider a sequence of dependent Bernoulli variables where the success probability of the trial conditional on the past history is a linear function of the mean number of successes achieved to that point. An almost sure invariance principle is established for the partial sum and we also generalize the model to a multi-dimensional case, extending the results of Heyde (2004), James et al. (2008) and Wu et al. (2012).

Abstract:We prove a probabilistic generalization of the classic result that infinite power towers, $c^{c^{\dots}}$, converge if and only if $c\in[e^{-e},e^{1/e}]$. Given an i.i.d. sequence $\{A_i\}_{i\in\mathbb N}$, we find that convergence of the power tower $A_1^{A_2^{\dots}}$ is determined by the bounds of $A_1$'s support, $a=\inf(\mathrm{supp}(A_1))$ and $b=\sup(\mathrm{supp}(A_1))$. When $b\in[e^{-e},e^{1/e}]$, $a<1<b$, or $a=0$, the power tower converges almost surely. When $b<e^{-e}$, we define a special function $B$ such that almost sure convergence is equivalent to $a<B(b)$. Only in the case when $a=1$ and $b>e^{1/e}$ are the values of $a$ and $b$ insufficient to determine convergence. We show a rather complicated necessary and sufficient condition for convergence when $a=1$ and $b$ is finite. We also briefly discuss the relationship between the distribution of $A_1$ and the corresponding power tower $T=A_1^{A_2^{\dots}}$. For example, when $T\sim\mathrm{Unif}[0,1]$, then the corresponding distribution of $A_1$ is given by $UV$ where $U,V\sim\mathrm{Unif}[0,1]$ are independent. We generalize this example by showing that for $U\sim\mathrm{Unif}[\alpha,\beta]$ and $r\in\mathbb R$, there exists an i.i.d. sequence $\{A_i\}_{i\in\mathbb N}$ such that $U^r \stackrel{d}{=} A_1^{A_2^{\dots}}$ if and only if $r\in[0, \frac1{1+\log \beta}]$.}

Abstract:We consider two classes of piecewise expanding maps $T$ of $[0,1]$: a class of uniformly expanding maps for which the Perron-Frobenius operator has a spectral gap in the space of bounded variation functions, and a class of expanding maps with a neutral fixed point at zero. In both cases, we give a large class of unbounded functions $f$ for which the partial sums of $f\circ T^i$ satisfy an almost sure invariance principle. This class contains piecewise monotonic functions (with a finite number of branches) such that: - For uniformly expanding maps, they are square integrable with respect to the absolutely continuous invariant probability measure. - For maps having a neutral fixed point at zero, they satisfy an (optimal) tail condition with respect to the absolutely continuous invariant probability measure.
Iterated invariance principle for random dynamical systems

Abstract:We prove a weak iterated invariance principle for a large class of non-uniformly expanding random dynamical systems. In addition, we give a quenched homogenization result for fast-slow systems in the case when the fast component corresponds to a uniformly expanding random system. Our techniques rely on the appropriate martingale decomposition.

Abstract:We study a class of non-reversible, continuous-time random walks in random environments on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ that admit a cycle representation with finite cycle length. The law of the transition rates, taking values in $[0, \infty)$, is assumed to be stationary and ergodic with respect to space shifts. Moreover, the transition rate from $x$ to $y$, denoted by $c^\omega(x,y)$, is a superposition of non-negative random weights on oriented cycles that contain the edge $(x,y)$. We prove a quenched invariance principle under moment conditions that are comparable to the well-known p-q moment condition of Andres, Deuschel, and Slowik [2] for the random conductance model. A key ingredient in proving the sublinearity is an energy estimate for the non-symmetric generator. Our result extends that of Deuschel and Kösters [12] beyond strong ellipticity and bounded cycle lengths.

Effective quenched linear response for random dynamical systems

Abstract:We prove ``effective'' linear response for certain classes of non-uniformly expanding random dynamical systems which are not necessarily composed in an i.i.d manner. In applications, the results are obtained for base maps with a sufficient amount of mixing. The fact that the rates are effective is then applied to obtain the differentiability of the variance in the CLT as a function of the parameter, as well as the annealed linear response. These two applications are beyond the reach of the linear response obtained in the general case, when all the random variables appearing in the bounds are only tempered. We also provide several wide examples of one-dimensional maps satisfying our conditions, as well as some higher-dimensional examples.

Abstract:In this paper we consider random dynamical systems formed by concatenating maps acting on the unit interval $[0,1]$ in an iid fashion. Considered as a stationary Markov process, the random dynamical system possesses a unique stationary measure $\nu$. We consider a class of non square-integrable observables $\phi$, mostly of form $\phi(x)=d(x,x_0)^{-\frac{1}{\alpha}}$ where $x_0$ is non-periodic point satisfying some other genericity conditions, and more generally regularly varying observables with index $\alpha \in (0,2)$. The two types of maps we concatenate are a class of piecewise $C^2$ expanding maps, and a class of intermittent maps possessing an indifferent fixed point at the origin. Under conditions on the dynamics and $\alpha$ we establish Poisson limit laws, convergence of scaled Birkhoff sums to a stable limit law and functional stable limit laws, in both the annealed and quenched case. The scaling constants for the limit laws for almost every quenched realization are the same as those of the annealed case and determined by $\nu$. This is in contrast to the scalings in quenched central limit theorems where the centering constants depend in a critical way upon the realization and are not the same for almost every realization.

Abstract:In this paper, by using the corrector method we give another proof of the quenched invariance principle for the random walk on the infinite random graph generated by a one-dimensional long-range percolation under the conditions that the connection probability p(1)=1 and the percolation exponent s>2. The key step of the proof is the construction of the corrector. We show that the corrector can be constructed under either s∈(2,3] or s>3, though the corresponding underlying measures may be different. As an application of the main result we get a new lower bound of the quenched diagonal transition probability for the random walk.
Quenched local limit theorem for random conductance models with long-range jumps

Abstract:We establish the quenched local limit theorem for reversible random walk on $\Z^d$ (with $d\ge 2$) among stationary ergodic random conductances that permit jumps of arbitrary length. The proof is based on the weak parabolic Harnack inequalities and on-diagonal heat-kernel estimates for long-range random walks on general ergodic environments. In particular, this partly solves \cite[Open Problem 2.7]{BCKW}, where the quenched invariance principle was obtained. As a byproduct, we prove the maximal inequality with an extra tail term for long-range reversible random walks, which in turn yields the everywhere sublinear property for the associated corrector.

Abstract:We develop a quenched thermodynamic formalism for open random dynamical systems generated by finitely branched, piecewise-monotone mappings of the interval. The openness refers to the presence of holes in the interval, which terminate trajectories once they enter. Our random driving is generated by an invertible, ergodic, measure-preserving transformation on a probability space $(\Omega,\mathscr{F},m)$. For each $\omega$ we associate a piecewise-monotone, surjective map $T_\omega$ and a hole $H_\omega\subset [0,1]$; the map and the hole generate the corresponding open transfer operator. In the first chapter we prove, for a contracting potential, that there exists a unique random conformal measure $\nu_\omega$ supported on the survivor set. We also prove the existence of a unique random invariant density $\phi_\omega$. These provide an ergodic random invariant measure $\mu=\nu \phi$ supported on the global survivor set. Further, we prove quasi-compactness of the transfer operator cocycle and exponential decay of correlations for $\mu$. The escape rate of $\nu$ is given by the difference of the expected pressures for the closed and open random systems. Finally, we prove that the Hausdorff dimension of the surviving set is equal to the unique zero of the expected pressure function for almost every fiber. In the second chapter we consider quasi-compact linear operator cocycles and their small perturbations. We prove an abstract fiberwise first-order formula for the leading Lyapunov multipliers. Our new machinery is deployed to create a spectral approach for a quenched extreme value theory that considers random dynamics and random observations. Finally, we prove quenched statistical limit theorems for random equilibrium states arising from contracting potentials. We illustrate the above theory with a variety of examples.

Abstract:We prove the almost sure invariance principle (ASIP) with close to optimal error rates for nonuniformly hyperbolic maps. We do not assume exponential contraction along stable leaves, therefore our result covers in particular slowly mixing invertible dynamical systems as Bunimovich flowers, billiards with flat points as in Chernov and Zhang (Stoch Dyn 5:535–553, 2005a, Nonlinearity 18:1527–1553, 2005b) and Wojtkowski' (Commun Math Phys 126:507–533, 1990) system of two falling balls.For these examples, the ASIP is a new result, not covered by prior works for various reasons, notably because in absence of exponential contraction along stable leaves, it is challenging to employ the so-called Sinai's trick (Sinai in Russ Math Surv 27:21–70, 1972; Bowen, Lecture Notes in Math vol. 470 (1975)) of reducing a nonuniformly hyperbolic system to a nonuniformly expanding one. Our strategy follows our previous papers on the ASIP for nonuniformly expanding maps, where we build a semiconjugacy to a specific renewal Markov shift and adapt the argument of Berkes et al. (Ann Probab 42:794–817, 2014). The main difference is that now the Markov shift is two-sided , the observables depend on the full trajectory, both the future and the past.

Abstract:We extend the recent spectral approach for quenched limit theorems developed for piecewise expanding dynamics under general random driving [DrFrGTVa18] to quenched random piecewise hyperbolic dynamics including some classes of billiards. For general ergodic sequences of maps in a neighbourhood of a hyperbolic map we prove a quenched large deviations principle (LDP), central limit theorem (CLT), and local central limit theorem (LCLT).

Abstract:We extend the spectral method for proving limit theorems to random non-uniformly expanding dynamical systems. This yields the CLT and moderate deviations principles (MDP). We show that as the amount of non-uniformity decreases the CLT rates and the speed in the MDP become closer to the optimal ones. For smooth systems the rates are effective. Compared to recent progress on the subject [34] we are able to consider much more general maps, Gibbs measures and observables. However, our main results are new even in the setup of [34].
