Abstract:In this paper, we consider the concept of connection cochain of central extensions introduced by Moriyoshi and apply it to the abelian case. We will show the relationship between connection cochain and connection $1$-form of a principal bundle whose structure group is abelian.

Abstract:Partial connections are (singular) differential systems generalizing classical connections on principal bundles, yielding analogous decompositions for manifolds with nonfree group actions. Connection forms are interpreted as maps determining projections of the tangent bundle onto the partial connection; this approach eliminates many of the complications arising from the presence of isotropy. A connection form taking values in the dual of the Lie algebra is smooth even at singular points of the action, while analogs of the classical algebra-valued connection form are necessarily discontinuous at such points. The curvature of a partial connection form can be defined under mild technical hypotheses; the interpretation of curvature as a measure of the lack of involutivity of the (partial) connection carries over to this general setting.

$G$-Connections on principal bundles over complete $G$-varieties

Abstract:Let $X$ be a complete variety over an algebraically closed field $k$ of characteristic zero, equipped with an action of an algebraic group $G$. Let $H$ be a reductive group. We study the notion of $G$-connection on a principal $H$-bundle. We give necessary and sufficient criteria for the existence of $G$-connections extending the Atiyah-Weil type criterion for holomorphic connections obtained by Azad and Biswas. We also establish a relationship between the existence of $G$-connection and equivariant structure on a principal $H$-bundle, under the assumption that $G$ is semisimple and simply connected. These results have been obtained by Biswas et al. when the underlying variety is smooth.

Adjusted Connections I: Differential Cocycles for Principal Groupoid Bundles with Connection

Abstract:We develop a new perspective on principal bundles with connection as morphisms from the tangent bundle of the underlying manifold to a classifying dg-Lie groupoid. This groupoid can be identified with a lift of the inner homomorphisms groupoid arising in Ševera's differentiation procedure of Lie quasi-groupoids. Our new perspective readily extends to principal groupoid bundles, but requires an adjustment, an additional datum familiar from higher gauge theory. We show that for Lie groupoids, the additional adjustment data amounts to a Cartan connection. The resulting adjusted connections naturally provide a global formulation of the kinematical data of curved Yang-Mills-Higgs theories as described by Kotov-Strobl (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1510.07654" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1510.07654">arXiv:1510.07654</a>) and Fischer (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2104.02175" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2104.02175">arXiv:2104.02175</a>).

Abstract:Let $\mathbb{X}=[X_1\rightrightarrows X_0]$ be a Lie groupoid equipped with a connection, given by a smooth distribution $\mathcal{H} \subset T X_1$ transversal to the fibers of the source map. Under the assumption that the distribution $\mathcal{H}$is integrable, we define a version of de Rham cohomology for the pair $(\mathbb{X}, \mathcal{H})$, and we study connections on principal $G$-bundles over $(\mathbb{X}, \mathcal{H})$ in terms of the associated Atiyah sequence of vector bundles. We also discuss associated constructions for differentiable stacks. Finally, we develop the corresponding Chern-Weil theory and describe characteristic classes of principal G-bundles over a pair $(\mathbb{X}, \mathcal{H})$.

Flat extensions of principal connections and the Chern-Simons $3$-form

Abstract:We introduce the notion of a flat extension of a connection $\theta$ on a principal bundle. Roughly speaking, $\theta$ admits a flat extension if it arises as the pull-back of a component of a Maurer-Cartan form. For trivial bundles over closed oriented $3$-manifolds, we relate the existence of certain flat extensions to the vanishing of the Chern-Simons invariant associated with $\theta$. As an application, we recover the obstruction of Chern-Simons for the existence of a conformal immersion of a Riemannian $3$-manifold into Euclidean $4$-space. In addition, we obtain corresponding statements for a Lorentzian $3$-manifold, as well as a global obstruction for the existence of an equiaffine immersion into $\mathbb{R}^4$ of a $3$-manifold that is equipped with a torsion-free connection preserving a volume form.

Extension realizing affine datum: low-dimensional cohomology

Abstract:For arbitrary varieties of universal algebras, we develop the theory around the first and second-cohomology groups characterizing extensions realizing affine datum. Restricted to varieties with a weak-difference term, extensions realizing affine datum are exactly extensions with abelian kernels. This recovers many classic examples of extensions with abelian coefficients since varieties with a weak-difference term give a far-reaching generalization of algebras like groups with multiple operators; indeed, any variety of algebras whose congruences form modular lattices. We introduce a notion of action and its model relation with a set of equations. In varieties with a difference term, central extensions are characterized by a property of their actions. Restricting further to a subclass of varieties with a difference term which still includes groups with multiple operators, we recover a special case of the representation of extensions with abelian kernels.

Abstract:For a compact Lie group acting on a smooth manifold, we define the differential cohomology of a certain quotient stack involving principal bundles with connection. This produces differential equivariant cohomology groups that map to the Cartan-Weil equivariant forms and to Borel's equivariant integral cohomology. We show the Chern-Weil homomorphism for equivariant vector bundles with connection naturally factors through differential equivariant cohomology.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the isomorphism problem for central extensions. More precisely, in some new situations, we provide necessary and sufficient conditions for two central extensions to be isomorphic. We investigate the case when the quotient group is simple or purely non-abelian. Furthermore, we characterize isomorphisms leaving the quotient group invariant. Finally, we deal with isomorphisms of central extensions where the kernel group and the quotient group are isomorphic.

Abstract:In this paper, we develop canonical bundle formulas for fibrations of relative dimension one in characteristic $p>0$. For such a fibration from a log pair $f\colon (X, \Delta) \to S$, if $f$ is separable, we can obtain a formula similar to the one due to Witaszek \cite{Wit21}; if $f$ is inseparable, we treat the case when $S$ is of maximal Albanese dimension. As an application, we prove that for a klt pair $(X,\Delta)$ with $-(K_X+\Delta)$ nef, if the Albanese morphism $a_X\colon X \to A$ is of relative dimension one, then $X$ is a fiber space over $A$.

Quantized Abelian principal connections on Lorentzian manifolds

Abstract:We construct a covariant functor from a category of Abelian principal bundles over globally hyperbolic spacetimes to a category of *-algebras that describes quantized principal connections. We work within an appropriate differential geometric setting by using the bundle of connections and we study the full gauge group, namely the group of vertical principal bundle automorphisms. Properties of our functor are investigated in detail and, similar to earlier works, it is found that due to topological obstructions the locality property of locally covariant quantum field theory is violated. Furthermore, we prove that, for Abelian structure groups containing a nontrivial compact factor, the gauge invariant Borchers-Uhlmann algebra of the vector dual of the bundle of connections is not separating on gauge equivalence classes of principal connections. We introduce a topological generalization of the concept of locally covariant quantum fields. As examples, we construct for the category of principal U(1)-bundles two natural transformations from singular homology functors to the quantum field theory functor that can be interpreted as the Chern class and the electric charge. In this case we also prove that the electric charges can be consistently set to zero, which yields another quantum field theory functor that satisfies all axioms of locally covariant quantum field theory.

Abstract:Over a smooth and proper complex scheme, the differential Galois group of an integrable connection may be obtained as the closure of the transcendental monodromy representation. In this paper, we employ a completely algebraic variation of this idea by restricting attention to connections on trivial vector bundles and replacing the fundamental group by a certain Lie algebra constructed from the regular forms. In more detail, we show that the differential Galois group is a certain ``closure'' of the aforementioned Lie algebra. This is then applied to construct connections on curves with prescribed differential Galois group.

Principal bundles with holomorphic connections over a Kaehler Calabi-Yau manifold

Abstract:We prove that any holomorphic vector bundle admitting a holomorphic connection, over a compact Kähler Calabi-Yau manifold, also admits a flat holomorphic connection. This addresses a particular case of a question asked by Atiyah and generalizes a result previously obtained in \cite{BD} for simply connected compact Kähler Calabi-Yau manifolds. We give some applications of it in the framework of Cartan geometries and foliated Cartan geometries on Kähler Calabi-Yau manifolds.

Discrete Vector Bundles with Connection and the Bianchi Identity

Abstract:We develop a combinatorial theory of vector bundles with connection that is natural with respect to appropriate mappings of the base space. The base space is a simplicial complex, the main objects defined are discrete vector bundle valued cochains and the main operators we develop are a discrete exterior covariant derivative and a combinatorial wedge product. Key properties of these operators are demonstrated and it is shown that they are natural with respect to the mappings referred to above. We also formulate a well-behaved definition of metric compatible discrete connections. A characterization is given for when a discrete vector bundle with connection is trivializable or has a trivial lower rank subbundle. This machinery is used to define discrete curvature as linear maps and we show that our formulation satisfies a discrete Bianchi identity. Recently an alternative framework for discrete vector bundles with connection has been given by Christiansen and Hu. We show that our framework reproduces and extends theirs when we apply our constructions on a subdivision of the base simplicial complex.

Abstract:Journal of Algebra and Its Applications, Ahead of Print. In this paper, we establish fundamental results concerning non-abelian extensions of Lie rings. Specifically, we demonstrate one-to-one correspondence between the equivalence classes of non-abelian extensions of Lie ring [math] by Lie ring [math] and the elements of second cohomology group [math], where [math] acts on [math]. Additionally, we provide necessary and sufficient condition under which such extensions exist, particularly when a specific abstract kernel is involved.

Abstract:Let $F$ be a finite extension of $\mathbb{Q}_p$, let $\Omega_F$ be Drinfeld's upper half-plane over $F$ and let $G^0$ the subgroup of $GL_2(F)$ consisting of elements whose determinant has norm $1$. By working locally on $\Omega_F$, we construct and classify the torsion $G^0$-equivariant line bundles with integrable connection on $\Omega$ in terms of the smooth linear characters of the units of the maximal order of the quaternion algebra over $F$.

Abstract:We examine the heap of linear connections on anchored vector bundles and Lie algebroids. Naturally, this covers the example of affine connections on a manifold. We present some new interpretations of classical results via this ternary structure of connections. Endomorphisms of linear connections are studied, and their ternary structure, in particular the endomorphism truss, is explicitly presented. We remark that the use of ternary structures in differential geometry is novel and that the endomorphism truss of linear connections provides a concrete geometric example of a truss.

Abstract:We study the Gauss-Manin connection for the moduli space of an arrangement of complex hyperplanes in the cohomology of a complex rank one local system. We define formal Gauss-Manin connection matrices in the Aomoto complex and prove that, for all arrangements and all local systems, these formal connection matrices specialize to Gauss-Manin connection matrices.
