Abstract:Let $D$ be a reduced effective strict normal crossing divisor on a smooth complex variety $X$, and let $\mathfrak{X}_D$ be an associated root stack over $\mathbb C$. Suppose that $X$ admits an anti-holomorphic involution (real structure) that keeps $D$ invariant. We show that the root stack $\mathfrak{X}_D$ naturally admits a real structure compatible with $X$. We also establish an equivalence of categories between the category of real logarithmic connections on this root stack and the category of real parabolic connections on $X$.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a smooth complex projective variety equipped with an action of a linear algebraic group $G$ over $\mathbb{C}$. Let $D$ be a reduced effective divisor on $X$ that is invariant under the $G$--action on $X$. Let $s_D$ be the canonical section of $\mathcal{O}_X(D)$ vanishing along $D$. Given a positive integer $r$, consider the stack $\mathfrak{X} := \mathfrak{X}_{(\mathcal{O}_X(D),\, s_D,\, r)}$ of $r$-th roots of $(\mathcal{O}_X, s_D)$ together with the natural morphism $\pi : \mathfrak{X} \to X$. Under the assumption that $G$ has no non-trivial characters, we show that the $G$--action on $X$ naturally lifts to a $G$--action on $\mathfrak{X}$ such that $\pi$ become $G$--equivariant, and the tautological invertible sheaf $\mathscr{M}$ on $\mathfrak{X}$ admits a linearization of this $G$--action. Finally, we define the notions of $G$--equivariant logarithmic connections on $\mathfrak{X}$ and $G$--equivariant parabolic connections on $X$ with rational parabolic weights along $D$, and establish an equivalence between the category of $G$--equivariant logarithmic connections on $\mathfrak{X}$ and the category of $G$--equivariant parabolic connections on $X$ with rational parabolic weights along $D$.

Generalized principal bundles and quotient stacks

Abstract:We consider the internalization of the usual notion of principal bundle in a site that has all pullbacks and a terminal object. We use this notion to consider the explicit construction of quotient prestacks via presheaves of categories of principal bundles equipped with equivariant morphisms in this abstract context. We then prove that, if the site is subcanonical and the underlying category satisfies some mild conditions, these quotient prestacks satisfy descent in the sense of stacks.

$G$-Connections on principal bundles over complete $G$-varieties

Abstract:Let $X$ be a complete variety over an algebraically closed field $k$ of characteristic zero, equipped with an action of an algebraic group $G$. Let $H$ be a reductive group. We study the notion of $G$-connection on a principal $H$-bundle. We give necessary and sufficient criteria for the existence of $G$-connections extending the Atiyah-Weil type criterion for holomorphic connections obtained by Azad and Biswas. We also establish a relationship between the existence of $G$-connection and equivariant structure on a principal $H$-bundle, under the assumption that $G$ is semisimple and simply connected. These results have been obtained by Biswas et al. when the underlying variety is smooth.

Root stacks and periodic decompositions

Abstract:For an effective Cartier divisor D on a scheme X we may form an nth root stack. Its derived category is known to have a semiorthogonal decomposition with components given by D and X. We show that this decomposition is 2n-periodic. For n=2 this gives a purely triangulated proof of the existence of a known spherical functor, namely the pushforward along the embedding of D. For n>2 we find a higher spherical functor in the sense of recent work of Dyckerhoff, Kapranov and Schechtman. We use a realization of the root stack construction as a variation of GIT, which may be of independent interest.

Abstract:For a compact Lie group acting on a smooth manifold, we define the differential cohomology of a certain quotient stack involving principal bundles with connection. This produces differential equivariant cohomology groups that map to the Cartan-Weil equivariant forms and to Borel's equivariant integral cohomology. We show the Chern-Weil homomorphism for equivariant vector bundles with connection naturally factors through differential equivariant cohomology.

Abstract:Given a smooth scheme X with an action by an affine algebraic group G, we give a formula to compute the Nisnevich sheaf of the motivic connected components of the quotient stack [X/G] in the case of an orbifold. We apply it to identify all the $\mathbb{A}^1$-connected stacky curves and prove the $\mathbb{A}^1$ -connectedness of the moduli stack of elliptic curves. We also prove homotopy purity for the smooth algebraic stacks and recover a computation of the Picard group of stacky orbifold curves by computing their mixed motive.

Adjusted Connections I: Differential Cocycles for Principal Groupoid Bundles with Connection

Abstract:We develop a new perspective on principal bundles with connection as morphisms from the tangent bundle of the underlying manifold to a classifying dg-Lie groupoid. This groupoid can be identified with a lift of the inner homomorphisms groupoid arising in Ševera's differentiation procedure of Lie quasi-groupoids. Our new perspective readily extends to principal groupoid bundles, but requires an adjustment, an additional datum familiar from higher gauge theory. We show that for Lie groupoids, the additional adjustment data amounts to a Cartan connection. The resulting adjusted connections naturally provide a global formulation of the kinematical data of curved Yang-Mills-Higgs theories as described by Kotov-Strobl (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1510.07654" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1510.07654">arXiv:1510.07654</a>) and Fischer (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2104.02175" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2104.02175">arXiv:2104.02175</a>).

Connections on a parabolic principal bundle, II

Abstract:In \cite{Bi2} (Canad. Jour. Math. Vol. 58) we defined connections on a parabolic principal bundle. While connections on usual principal bundles are defined as splittings of the Atiyah exact sequence, it was noted in \cite{Bi2} that the Atiyah exact sequence does not generalize to the parabolic principal bundles. Here we show that a twisted version of the Atiyah exact sequence generalize to the context of parabolic principal bundles. For usual principal bundles, giving a splitting of this twisted Atiyah exact sequence is equivalent to giving a splitting of the Atiyah exact sequence. Connections on a parabolic principal bundle can be defined using the generalization of the twisted Atiyah exact sequence.

Principal 2-bundles and quotient 2-stacks

Abstract:We generalize principal bundles and quotient stacks to the two-categorical context of bisites. We introduce a notion of principal 2-bundle that makes sense for a 2-category with finite flexible limits, endowed with a bitopology. We then use principal 2-bundles to explicitly construct quotient-pre-2-stacks, which are the analogues of quotient stacks one dimension higher. In order to perform this construction, we prove that principal 2-bundles are closed under iso-comma objects and we restrict ourselves to (2,1)-categories. Finally, we prove that, if the bisite is subcanonical and the underlying (2,1)-category satisfies some mild conditions, quotient pre-2-stacks are 2-stacks.

A stacky approach to identifying the semistable locus of bundles

Abstract:We show that the semistable locus is the unique maximal open substack of the moduli stack of principal bundles over a curve that admits a schematic moduli space. For rank $2$ vector bundles it coincides with the unique maximal open substack that admits a separated moduli space, but for higher rank there exist other open substacks that admit separated moduli spaces.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a simple algebraic group of adjoint type over $\mathbb C$, and let $M$ be the wonderful compactification of a symmetric space $G/H$. Take a $\widetilde G$--equivariant principal $R$--bundle $E$ on $M$, where $R$ is a complex reductive algebraic group and $\widetilde G$ is the universal cover of $G$. If the action of the isotropy group $\widetilde H$ on the fiber of $E$ at the identity coset is irreducible, then we prove that $E$ is polystable with respect to any polarization on $M$. Further, for wonderful compactification of the quotient of $\text{PSL}(n,{\mathbb C})$, $n\,\neq\, 4$ (respectively, $\text{PSL}(2n,{\mathbb C})$, $n \geq 2$) by the normalizer of the projective orthogonal group (respectively, the projective symplectic group), we prove that the tangent bundle is stable with respect to any polarization on the wonderful compactification.

Principal bundles with holomorphic connections over a Kaehler Calabi-Yau manifold

Abstract:We prove that any holomorphic vector bundle admitting a holomorphic connection, over a compact Kähler Calabi-Yau manifold, also admits a flat holomorphic connection. This addresses a particular case of a question asked by Atiyah and generalizes a result previously obtained in \cite{BD} for simply connected compact Kähler Calabi-Yau manifolds. We give some applications of it in the framework of Cartan geometries and foliated Cartan geometries on Kähler Calabi-Yau manifolds.

Generalized complex structure on certain principal torus bundles

Abstract:A principal torus bundle over a complex manifold with even dimensional fiber and characteristic class of type $(1,1)$ admits a family of regular generalized complex structures (GCS) with the fibers as leaves of the associated symplectic foliation. We show that such a generalized complex structure is equivalent to the product of the complex structure on the base and the symplectic structure on the fiber in a tubular neighborhood of an arbitrary fiber if and only if the bundle is flat. This has consequences for the generalized Dolbeault cohomology of the bundle that includes a Künneth formula. On a more general note, if a principal bundle over a complex manifold with a symplectic structure group admits a GCS with the fibers of the bundle as leaves of the associated symplectic foliation, and the GCS is equivalent to a product GCS in a neighborhood of every fiber, then the bundle is flat and symplectic.

The integration problem for principal connections

Abstract:In this paper we introduce the Integration Problem for principal connections. Just as a principal connection on a principal bundle $\phi:Q\rightarrow M$ may be used to split $TQ$ into horizontal and vertical subbundles, a discrete connection may be used to split $Q\times Q$ into horizontal and vertical submanifolds. All discrete connections induce a connection on the same principal bundle via a process known as the Lie or derivative functor. The Integration Problem consists of describing, for a principal connection $\mathcal{A}$, the set of all discrete connections whose associated connection is $\mathcal{A}$. Our first result is that for \emph{flat} principal connections, the Integration Problem has a unique solution among the \emph{flat} discrete connections. More broadly, under a fairly mild condition on the structure group $G$ of the principal bundle $\phi$, we prove that the existence part of the Integration Problem has a solution that needs not be unique. Last, we see that, when $G$ is abelian, given compatible continuous and discrete curvatures the Integration Problem has a unique solution constrained by those curvatures.

Abstract:This paper concerns regular connections on trivial algebraic G-principal fiber bundles over the infinitesimal punctured disc, where G is a connected reductive linear algebraic group over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. We show that the pull-back of every regular connection to an appropriate covering of the infinitesimal punctured disc is gauge equivalent to a connection of the form X z^{-1}dz for some X in the Lie algebra of G. We may even arrange that the only rational eigenvalue of ad X is zero. Our results allow a classification of regular SL_n-connections up to gauge equivalence.
Line bundles on the moduli space of Lie algebroid connections over a curve

Abstract:We explore algebro-geometric properties of the moduli space of holomorphic Lie algebroid ($ \mathcal{L} $) connections on a compact Riemann surface $X$ of genus $g \,\geq\, 3$. A smooth compactification of the moduli space of $\mathcal{L}$-connections, such that underlying vector bundle is stable, is constructed; the complement of the moduli space inside the compactification is a divisor. A criterion for the numerical effectiveness of the boundary divisor is given. We compute the Picard group of the moduli space, and analyze Lie algebroid Atiyah bundles associated with an ample line bundle. This enables us to conclude that regular functions on the space of certain Lie algebroid connections are constants. Moreover, under some condition, it is shown that the moduli space of $\mathcal{L}$-connections does not admit non-constant algebraic functions. Rationally connectedness of the moduli spaces is explored.
