Abstract:We introduce a class of “Lipschitz horizontal” vector fields in homogeneous groups, for which we show equivalent descriptions, e.g., in terms of suitable derivations. We then investigate the associated Cauchy problem, providing a uniqueness result both at equilibrium points and for vector fields of an involutive submodule of Lipschitz horizontal vector fields. We finally exhibit a counterexample to the general well-posedness theory for Lipschitz horizontal vector fields, in contrast with the Euclidean theory.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the following two algebraic hypersurfaces $$S^1\times S^2=\{(x_1,x_2,x_3,x_4)\in \mathbb{R}^4:(x_1^2+x_2^2-a^2)^2 + x_3^2 + x_4^2 -1=0;~ a>1\}$$ and $$S^2\times S^1=\{(x_1,x_2,x_3,x_4)\in \mathbb{R}^4:(x_1^2+x_2^2+x_3^2-b^2)^2+x_4^2-1=0;~ b>1\}$$ embedded in $\mathbb{R}^4$. We study polynomial vector fields in $\mathbb{R}^4$ separately, having $S^1\times S^2$ and $S^2\times S^1$ invariant by their flows. We characterize all linear, quadratic, cubic Kolmogorov and homogeneous vector fields on $S^1\times S^2$ and $S^2\times S^1$. We construct some first integrals of these vector fields and find which of the vector fields are Hamiltonian. We give upper bounds for the number of the invariant meridian and parallel hyperplanes of these vector fields. In addition, we have shown that the upper bounds are sharp in many cases.

Abstract:A great open problem is: can one learn the topology of the non-smooth path spaces with an L2 Hodge-deRham theory This one hopes to establish through a suitable complex of differential forms. Since the space is a Banach manifolds, and the Hodge theory is based on Hilbert spaces, it is trick to find such a complex. The relatively simpler Bismut tangent spaces and their tensor products, whose dual spaces are natural candidates for the complex, cannot be used, because these spaces are not necessarily closed under the Lie bracket operation if there is the effect of curvature. In this article we seek out a class of nice vector fields whose brackets behaves are calculable and behave nicely the damped tensor vector fields, using an Itô mp, which is also used by the authors in `Special Itô maps and an L2 Hodge theory for one forms on path spaces. Abstract:The maximal monotonicity notion in Banach spaces is extended to Riemannian manifolds of nonpositive sectional curvature, Hadamard manifolds, and proved to be equivalent to the upper semicontinuity. We consider the problem of finding a singularity of a multivalued vector field in a Hadamard manifold and present a general proximal point method to solve that problem, which extends the known proximal point algorithm in Euclidean spaces. We prove that the sequence generated by our method is well defined and converges to a singularity of a maximal monotone vector field, whenever it exists. Applications in minimization problems with constraints, minimax problems and variational inequality problems, within the framework of Hadamard manifolds, are presented.

Abstract:Vector fields, with spatially inhomogeneous distribution of states of polarization, have become a subject of rapidly growing interest. We first introduce a method for generating arbitrary vector fields, based on the Poincaré sphere and the wavefront reconstruction, and then discuss some novel properties including optical orbital angular momentum and configurable three-dimensional optical cage.

Abstract:Let $S_{p,q}$ be the hypersurface in $\mathbb{R}^{p+q+1}$ defined by the following: $$ S_{p,q} := \left\lbrace (x_1,\ldots,x_{p+1},x_{p+2},\ldots,x_{p+q+1}) \in \mathbb{R}^{p+q+1} \big| \left( \sum_{i=1}^{p+1} x_i^2 - a^2 \right)^2 + \sum_{j=p+2}^{p+q+1} x_j^2 = 1 \right\rbrace,$$ where $a > 1$. We show that $S_{p,q}$ is homeomorphic to the product $S^p \times S^q$. We classify all degree one and two polynomial vector fields on $S_{p,q}$. We consider the polynomial vector field $\mathcal{X} = (R_1,...,R_{p+1},R_{p+2},...,R_{p+q+1})$ in $\mathbb{R}^{p+q+1}$ which keeps $S_{p,q}$ invariant. Then we study the number of certain invariant algebraic subsets of $S_{p,q}$ for the vector field $\mathcal{X}$ if either $p>1$ or $q>1$.

Abstract:We introduce a concept of bi-conformal transformation, as a generalization of conformal ones, by allowing two orthogonal parts of a manifold with metric g to be scaled by different conformal factors. In particular, we study their infinitesimal version, called bi-conformal vector fields. We show that these are characterized by the differential conditions and , where P and Π are orthogonal projectors (P + Π = g). Keeping P and Π fixed, the set of bi-conformal vector fields is a Lie algebra which can be finite or infinite dimensional according to the dimensionality of the projectors. We determine (i) when an infinite-dimensional case is feasible and its properties, and (ii) a normal system for the generators in the finite-dimensional case. Its integrability conditions are also analysed, which in particular provides the maximum number of linearly independent solutions. We identify the corresponding maximal spaces, and show a necessary geometric condition for a metric tensor to be a double-twisted product. More general 'breakable' spaces are briefly considered. Many known symmetries are included, such as conformal Killing vectors, Kerr–Schild vector fields, kinematic self-similarity, causal symmetries and rigid motions.

Projective Vector Fields on Semi-Riemannian Manifolds

Abstract:This paper explores the properties of projective vector fields on semi-Riemannian manifolds. The main result establishes that if a projective vector field P on such a manifold is also a conformal vector field with potential function ψ and the vector field ζ dual to dψ does not change its causal character, then P is homothetic, or ζ is a light-like vector field. Additionally, it is shown that a complete Riemannian manifold admits a projective vector field that is also conformal and non-Killing if and only if it is locally Euclidean. The paper also presents other results related to the characterization of Killing and parallel vector fields using the Ricci curvature and the Hessian of the function given by the inner product of the vector field.

Abstract:In this work, we present algebraic results for Hamiltonian and symmetric vector fields on 2n -dimensional symplectic vector spaces. Our main results are in the linear context. In the case n = 1, we have that a linear vector field is Hamiltonian if and only if it is reversible by an involution. For n >1 and under certain conditions, we obtain a similar correspondence in which the symmetry group is generated by the symplectic form and the reversing symmetries are not necessarily involutions. In the non-linear context, we exhibit families of vector fields that are Hamiltonian with symmetry group Z4 .

History and Overview

Abstract:The theory uses methods and language of linear algebra to study nonlinear spaces. These techniques can be used particularly to describe analytic geometry of non-linear elliptic, hyperbolic, De Sitter and Anti de Sitter spaces. The main innovation of elaborated theory is space parameterization by introduction of space signature. This parameterization allows studying of different homogeneous spaces in one global framework. When the parameters are used as variables in definitions, axioms, equations, theorems, proofs, all these have exactly the same form that describes the reality of all homogeneous spaces simultaneously. When it is necessary to describe some space particularities or to see the difference between two concrete spaces, the concrete values can be put in parameters of each definition, axiom, equation, theorem and proof.

Abstract:In this paper, motivated by a diffeological vector space with the D -topology, we introduce the concept of quasitopological vector space, which is a vector space with a topology satisfying the conditions that the vector addition is separately continuous in each variable, and the scalar multiplication is jointly continuous. The following results are proved: (1) Every quasitopological finite-dimensional vector space is a topological vector space. (2) For each infinite-dimensional vector space, we define a T1 non-Hausdorff topology on it such that it is a quasitopological vector space but is not a topological vector space.

Abstract:We consider a differential inclusion on a manifold, defined by a field of open half-spaces whose boundary in each tangent space is the kernel of a one-form. We make the assumption that the corank one distribution associated to the kernel is completely nonholonomic of step 2. We identify a subset of solutions of the differential inclusion, satisfying two endpoints and periodic boundary conditions, which are homotopy equivalent in the $W^{1,p}$-topology, for any $p\in [1,+\infty)$, to the based loop space and the free loop space respectively.
