Abstract:We define the Schwarzian Field Theory as a finite measure on $\mathrm{Diff}^1(\mathbb{T})/\mathrm{PSL}(2,\mathbb{R})$ and compute its generalised partition functions exactly using methods of stochastic analysis. The Schwarzian Field Theory has attracted recent attention due to its role in the analysis of the Sachdev--Ye--Kitaev model and as the proposed holographic dual to Jackiw--Teitelboim gravity. In two companion papers by Losev, the predicted exact cross-ratio correlation functions for non-crossing Wilson lines and the large deviations are derived from the probability measure.}

Abstract:Covariance is a useful property for handling supergravity theories. In this paper, we prove a covariance property of supergravity field equations: under reasonable conditions, field equations of supergravity are covariant modulo other field equations. We prove that for any supergravity there exist such covariant equations of motion, other than the regular equations of motion, that are equivalent to the latter. The relations that we find between field equations and their covariant form can be used to obtain multiplets of field equations. In practice, the covariant field equations are easily found by simply covariantizing the ordinary field equations.

Field Theory for Superconducting Branes and Generalized Particle-Vortex Duality

Abstract:We propose a field theory of closed $p$-brane $C_p^{}$ interacting with a $(p+1)$-form gauge field $A_{p+1}^{}$. This is a generalization of the Ginzburg-Landau theory (Abelian-Higgs model) for superconducting particles to higher-dimensional superconducting branes. A higher-form gauge invariant action is constructed by utilizing the Area derivative, which is a higher-dimensional generalization of the ordinary derivative. We find that the fundamental phenomena of superconductivity, such as the Meisser effect, topological defects, topological order, are naturally extended in the brane-field theory. We explicitly construct a topologically non-trivial static configuration that is characterized by the first homotopy group. Then, we calculate the low-energy effective theory in the presence of the topological defect and find that it is described by a BF-type topological field theory coupled with the world-volume of the topological defect. We also conjecture an infra-red duality between the superconducting brane-field model and dual brane-field model with a global $\mathrm{U}(1)$ higher-form symmetry as a generalization of the Particle-Vortex duality.

Covariant Quantization of the Green-Schwarz Superstring in a Calabi-Yau Background

Abstract:After adding a scalar chiral boson to the usual superspace variables, the four-dimensional Green-Schwarz superstring is quantized in a manifestly SO(3,1) super-Poincaré covariant manner. The constraints are all first-class and form an N=2 superconformal algebra with $c=-3$. Since the Calabi-Yau degrees of freedom are described by an N=2 superconformal field theory with $c=9$, the combined Green-Schwarz and Calabi-Yau systems form the $c=6$ matter sector of a critical N=2 string. Using the standard N=2 super-Virasoro ghosts, a nilpotent BRST charge is defined and vertex operators for the massless supermultiplets are constructed. Four-dimensional superstring amplitudes can be calculated with manifest SO(3,1) super-Poincaré invariance by evaluating correlation functions of these BRST-invariant vertex operators on N=2 super-Riemann surfaces.

Schur Quantization and Complex Chern-Simons theory

Abstract:Any four-dimensional Supersymmetric Quantum Field Theory with eight supercharges can be associated to a certain complex symplectic manifold called the "K-theoretic Coulomb branch" of the theory. The collection of K-theoretic Coulomb branches include many complex phase spaces of great interest, including in particular the "character varieties" of complex flat connections on a Riemann surface. The SQFT definition endows K-theoretic Coulomb branches with a variety of canonical structures, including a deformation quantization. In this paper we introduce a canonical "Schur" quantization of K-theoretic Coulomb branches. It is defined by a variant of the Gelfand-Naimark-Segal construction, applied to protected Schur correlation functions of half-BPS line defects. Schur quantization produces an actual quantization of the complex phase space. As a concrete application, we apply this construction to character varieties in order to quantize Chern-Simons gauge theory with a complex gauge group. Other applications include the definition of a new quantum deformation of the Lorentz group, and the solution of certain spectral problems via dualities.

Lorentz-Covariant Green-Schwarz Superstring Amplitudes

Abstract:In a recent paper, the BRST formalism for the gauge-fixed N=2 twistor-string was used to calculate Green-Schwarz supersring scattering amplitudes with an arbitrary number of loops and external massless states. Although the gauge-fixing procedure preserved the worldsheet N=2 superconformal invariance of the twistor-string, it broke the target-space SO(9,1) super-Poincaré invariance down to an SU(4)xU(1) subgroup. In this paper, generators for the SO(9,1) super-Poincaré transformations, as well as manifestly covariant vertex operators, are explicitly constructed out of the gauge-fixed matter fields. The earlier calculated amplitudes are then expressed in manifestly Lorentz-covariant notation.

A Possible Universal Treatment of the Field Strength Correlator in the Abelian-Projected SU(2)-Theory

Abstract:An integral relation between two functions parametrizing the bilocal field strength correlator within the Stochastic Vacuum Model is obtained in the effective Abelian-projected SU(2)-theory. This relation is independent of the concrete properties of the ensemble of vortex loops, which are present in the theory under study. By virtue of the lattice result stating that the infrared asymptotic behaviours of these functions should have the same functional form, the obtained relation enables one to find these behaviours, as well as the infrared asymptotics of the bilocal correlator of densities of the vortex loops. Those turn out to be exponentials, decreasing at the inverse mass of the dual vector boson, times certain polynomials in the inverse integer powers of the distance. This result agrees with the general predictions and the existing lattice data better than the results of previous calculations, where these powers were found to be half-integer ones.

Abstract:We study Chern-Simons Gauge Theory in axial gauge on ${\mathbb R}^3.$ This theory has a quadratic Lagrangian and therefore expectations can be computed nonperturbatively by explicit formulas, giving an (unbounded) linear functional on a space of polynomial functions in the gauge fields, as a mathematically well-defined avatar of the formal functional integral. We use differential-geometric methods to extend the definition of this linear functional to expectations of products of Wilson loops corresponding to oriented links in ${\mathbb R}^3,$ and derive skein relations for them. In the case $G=SU(2)$ we show that these skein relations are closely related to those of the Kauffman bracket polynomial, which is closely related to the Jones polynomial. We also study the case of groups of higher rank. We note that in the absence of a cubic term in the action, there is no quantization condition on the coupling $\lambda,$ which can be any complex number. This is in line with the fact that the Jones polynomial, in contrast to the manifold invariants of Witten and Reshetikhin-Turaev, is defined for any value of the coupling. The appearance of the parameter $e^{\frac1{2\lambda}}$ in the expectations and skein relations is also natural. Likewise, the extension of the theory to noncompact groups presents no difficulties. Finally we show how computations similar to ours, but for gauge fields in two dimensions, yield the Goldman bracket.

Quantum conformal symmetries for spacetimes in superposition

Abstract:Without a complete theory of quantum gravity, the question of how quantum fields and quantum particles behave in a superposition of spacetimes seems beyond the reach of theoretical and experimental investigations. Here we use an extension of the quantum reference frame formalism to address this question for the Klein-Gordon field residing on a superposition of conformally equivalent metrics. Based on the group structure of ``quantum conformal transformations'', we construct an explicit quantum operator that can map states describing a quantum field on a superposition of spacetimes to states representing a quantum field with a superposition of masses on a Minkowski background. This constitutes an extended symmetry principle, namely invariance under quantum conformal transformations. The latter allows to build an understanding of superpositions of diffeomorphically non-equivalent spacetimes by relating them to a more intuitive superposition of quantum fields on curved spacetime. Furthermore, it can be used to import the phenomenon of particle production in curved spacetime to its conformally equivalent counterpart, thus revealing new features in modified Minkowski spacetime.

Black Holes and Covariance in Effective Quantum Gravity

Abstract:This work addresses the longstanding issue of general covariance in effective models of quantum gravity, which arises when canonical quantum gravity leads to a semiclassical model described by an effective Hamiltonian constraint. In spherically symmetric models, the concept of general covariance is formulated into precise equations. Applying the minimal requirements proposed to ensure general covariance, we derive the equations for the effective Hamiltonian constraint with the aid of imposing demands on Dirac observables. The equations yield two candidates for effective Hamiltonian constraints dependent on a quantum parameter. The resulting quantum modified black hole spacetimes are analyzed, and they overcome the limitations seen in similar spacetimes from previous works.

Abstract:We describe covariant derivatives with respect to the coordinates of the full superPoincaré group and dual coordinates, for Yang-Mills and supergravity. The derivatives have engineering dimension running from 0 to 2. Prepotentials appear as potentials for Lorentz derivatives (spin). Their role is clarified in a lightcone analysis, where they also act as compensating gauge parameters and Hertz potentials. Field strengths appear as potentials for dual-coordinate derivatives, until dimensional reduction. These generalizations extend the superstring's affine Lie algebra, and generalize gauge couplings for the superparticle.

Amplitudes at strong coupling as hyperkähler scalars

Abstract:Alday & Maldacena conjectured an equivalence between string amplitudes in AdS$_5 \times S^5$ and null polygonal Wilson loops in planar $\mathcal{N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills (SYM). At strong coupling this identifies SYM amplitudes with areas of minimal surfaces in AdS. For minimal surfaces in AdS$_3$, we find that the nontrivial part of these amplitudes, the \emph{remainder function}, satisfies an integrable system of nonlinear differential equations, and we give its Lax form. The result follows from a new perspective on `Y-systems', which defines a new psuedo-hyperkähler structure \emph{directly} on the space of kinematic data, via a natural twistor space defined by the Y-system equations. The remainder function is the (pseudo-)Kähler scalar for this geometry. This connection to pseudo-hyperkähler geometry and its twistor theory provides a new ingredient for extending recent conjectures for non-perturbative amplitudes using structures arising at strong coupling.

Abstract:The pure spinor superfield formalism reveals that, in any dimension and with any amount of supersymmetry, one particular supermultiplet is distinguished from all others. This "canonical supermultiplet" is equipped with an additional structure that is not apparent in any component-field formalism: a (homotopy) commutative algebra structure on the space of fields. The structure is physically relevant in several ways; it is responsible for the interactions in ten-dimensional super Yang–Mills theory, as well as crucial to any first-quantised interpretation. We study the algebra structure that is Koszul dual to this commutative algebra, both in general and in numerous examples, and prove that it is equivalent to the subalgebra of the Koszul dual to functions on the space of generalised pure spinors in internal degree greater than or equal to three. In many examples, the latter is the positive part of a Borcherds–Kac–Moody superalgebra. Using this result, we can interpret the canonical multiplet as the homotopy fiber of the map from generalised pure spinor space to its derived replacement. This generalises and extends work of Movshev–Schwarz and Gálvez–Gorbounov–Shaikh–Tonks in the same spirit. We also comment on some issues with physical interpretations of the canonical multiplet, which are illustrated by an example related to the complex Cayley plane, and on possible extensions of our construction, which appear relevant in an example with symmetry type .

Supersymmetric Quantum Fields via Quantum Probability

Abstract:The super version of imprimitivity theorem is available now to describe global supersymmetry of systems using the representations of super Lie groups (SLG). This result uses the equivalence between super Harish- Chandra pairs and super Lie groups at the categorigal level and is applicable to super Poincare group and generalizes a smooth SI to super context. We apply the result to build supersymmetric quantum fields. Towards this end, we set up a super fock space of a disjoint union of super Hilbert spaces which is equivalent to super tensoring of boson (even) part symmetrically and that of fermion (odd) part antisymmetrically of the super particle Hilbert space. This leads to a super fock space that is disjoint union of bosonic and fermionic spaces, that is Z2 graded. We derive covariant Weyl operators for light-like fields, with the massless super spinorial multiplet as an illustrative example. First, we build a representation of a light-like little group in terms of Weyl operators. We then use this construction to induce a representation of Poincare group to construct the fields via super version of imprimitivity theorem.

Abstract:Is there more to Dirac's gamma matrices than meets the eye? It turns out that gamma zero can be factorized into a product of three operators. This revelation facilitates the expansion of Dirac's space-time algebra to Clifford algebra Cl(0,6). The resultant rich geometric structure can be leveraged to establish a combined framework of the standard model and gravity, wherein a gravi-weak interaction between the extended vierbein field and the extended weak gauge field is allowed. Inspired by the composite Higgs model, we examine the vierbein field as an effective description of the fermion-antifermion condensation. The compositeness of space-time manifests itself at an energy scale which is different from the Planck scale. We propose that all the regular classical Lagrangian terms are of quantum condensation origin, thus possibly addressing the cosmological constant problem provided that we adopt an unconventional multi-scale renormalization procedure for quantum condensations that entail multiplications of divergent integrals. The Clifford algebra approach also permits a weaker form of charge conjugation without particle-antiparticle interchange, which leads to a Majorana-type mass that conserves lepton number. Additionally, in the context of spontaneous breaking of two global U(1) symmetries, we explore a three-Higgs-doublet model with Higgs VEVs 246 GeV, 41 GeV and 2.5 GeV which could explain the fermion mass hierarchies.
