Abstract:In this article, we give a natural geometric interpretation of Kirillov's conjecture for tempered representations in the framework of orbit method. This interpretation can also be considered as a first generalization of Duflo's conjecture to non-discrete series representations.

Abstract:Dumortier and Roussarie proposed a conjecture in their paper (2009, Discrete Con. Dyn. Sys., 2,723-781): For any \begin{document}$ q\in {\mathbb{N}} $\end{document} , the Abelian integrals \begin{document}$ J_{2j+1}(h) = \int_{\gamma_h}x^{2j-1}\,\mathrm dy $\end{document} , \begin{document}$ j = 0, 1, 2, \cdots, q $\end{document} , form a strict Chebyshev system on intervals \begin{document}$ h\in (0, \frac{1}{2}] $\end{document} , where \begin{document}$ \gamma_h = \{(x, y)| \mathrm e^{-2y}(y+\frac{1}{2}-x^2) = h\} $\end{document} . If this conjecture holds, then they obtain the precise upper bound of the number of limit cycles that appear near a slow-fast Hopf point of any codimension. In the present paper we develop a method to estimate the number of zeros of Abelian integrals and prove this conjecture.
Mirror Symmetry for Special Nilpotent Orbit Closures

Abstract:Motivated by geometric Langlands, we initiate a program to study the mirror symmetry between nilpotent orbit closures of a semisimple Lie algebra and those of its Langlands dual. The most interesting case is $B_n$ via $C_n$. Classically, there is a famous Springer duality between special orbits. Therefore, it is natural to speculate that the mirror symmetry we seek may coincide with Springer duality in the context of special orbits. Unfortunately, such a naive statement fails. To remedy the situation, we propose a conjecture which asserts the mirror symmetry for certain parabolic/induced covers of special orbits. Then, we prove the conjecture for Richardson orbits and obtain certain partial results in general. In the process, we reveal some very interesting and yet subtle structures of these finite covers, which are related to Lusztig's canonical quotients of special nilpotent orbits. For example, there is a mysterious asymmetry in the footprint or range of degrees of these finite covers. Finally, we provide two examples to show that the mirror symmetry fails outside the footprint.

Abstract:In this paper we prove a conjecture of Kudla and Rallis. Let $\chi$ be a unitary character, $s\in \mathbb{C}$ and $W$ a symplectic vector space over a non-archimedean field with symmetry group $G(W)$. Denote by $I(\chi,s)$ the degenerate principal series representation of $G(W\oplus W)$. Pulling back $I(\chi,s)$ along the natural embedding $G(W)\times G(W)\hookrightarrow G(W\oplus W)$ gives a representation $I_{W,W}(\chi,s)$ of $G(W)\times G(W)$. Let $\pi$ be an irreducible smooth complex representation of $G(W)$. We then prove \[\dim _\mathbb{C}\mathrm{Hom}_{G(W)\times G(W)}(I_{W,W}(\chi,s),\pi\otimes \pi^\lor)=1.\] We also give analogous statements for $W$ orthogonal or unitary. This gives in particular a new proof of the conservation relation of the local Theta correspondence for symplectic-orthogonal and unitary dual pairs.

Abstract:We present a way to build hyperbolic spheres with conical singularities by gluing together simple building blocks. Our construction provides good control over the holonomy of the resulting hyperbolic cone sphere. In particular, it can be used to realize any Deroin-Tholozan (DT) representation as the holonomy of a hyperbolic cone sphere. Our construction is inspired by the correspondence between DT representations and chains of triangles in the hyperbolic plane. It gives a geometric interpretation of certain action-angle coordinates on the space of DT representations, which come from this correspondence.

Abstract:In this short note, we give a new proof of a recent result of Tong Liu on torsions in the graded pieces of a Nygaard filtration associated to a crystalline lattice. Our approach is inspired on the one hand by a result of Gee--Kisin on the shape of mod $p$ crystalline Breuil--Kisin modules, and on the other hand by a connection between the Deligne--Illusie theorem and the Sen operator on the diffracted Hodge complex, as observed by Drinfeld and Bhatt--Lurie.

A geometric approach to functional equations for general multiple Dirichlet series over function fields

Abstract:Sawin recently gave an axiomatic characterization of multiple Dirichlet series over the function field $\mathbb{F}_{q}(T)$ and proved their existence by exhibiting the coefficients as trace functions of specific perverse sheaves. However, he did not prove that these series actually converge anywhere, instead treating them as formal power series. In this paper, we prove that these series do converge in a certain region, and moreover that the functions obtained by analytically continuing them satisfy functional equations. For convergence, it suffices to obtain bounds on the coefficients, for which we use the decomposition theorem for perverse sheaves, in combination with the Kontsevich moduli space of stable maps to construct a suitable compactification. For the functional equations, the key identity is a multi-variable generalization of the relationship between a Dirichlet character and its Fourier transform; in the multiple Dirichlet series setting, this uses a density trick for simple perverse sheaves and an explicit formula for intermediate extensions from the complement of a normal crossings divisor.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove the geometric Bombieri-Lang conjecture for projective varieties which have finite morphisms to abelian varieties of trivial traces over function fields of characteristic 0. The proof is based on the idea of constructing entire curves in the pre-sequel "Partial heights, entire curves, and the geometric Bombieri-Lang conjecture." A new ingredient is an explicit description of the entire curves in terms of Lie algebras of abelian varieties.

Abstract:A conjecture, recently stated by Flach and Morin, relates the action of the monodromy on the Galois invariant part of the p-adic Beilinson-Hyodo-Kato cohomology of the generic fiber of a scheme defined over a DVR of mixed characteristic to (the cohomology of) its special fiber. We prove the conjecture in the case the special fiber, of the given arithmetic scheme, is also a fiber of a geometric family over a curve in positive characteristic.

Abstract:Let $X$ be any smooth Deligne-Mumford stack with projective coarse moduli, and $Y$ be a smooth complete intersection in $X$ associated with a direct sum of semi-positive line bundles. We will introduce a useful and broad class known as admissible series for discussing quantum Lefschetz theorem. For any admissible series on the Givental's Lagrangian cone of $X$, we will show that a hypergeometric modification of the series lies on the Lagrangian cone of $Y$. This confirms a prediction from Coates-Corti-Iritani-Tseng about the genus zero quantum Lefschetz theorem beyond convexity. In our quantum Lefschetz theorem, we use extended variables to formulate the hypergeometric modification, which may be of self-independent interest.

Abstract:Understanding the difference between group orbits and their closures is a key difficulty in geometric complexity theory (GCT): While the GCT program is set up to separate certain orbit closures, many beautiful mathematical properties are only known for the group orbits, in particular close relations with symmetry groups and invariant spaces, while the orbit closures seem much more difficult to understand. However, in order to prove lower bounds in algebraic complexity theory, considering group orbits is not enough. In this paper we tighten the relationship between the orbit of the power sum polynomial and its closure, so that we can separate this orbit closure from the orbit closure of the product of variables by just considering the symmetry groups of both polynomials and their representation theoretic decomposition coefficients. In a natural way our construction yields a multiplicity obstruction that is neither an occurrence obstruction, nor a so-called vanishing ideal occurrence obstruction. All multiplicity obstructions so far have been of one of these two types. Our paper is the first implementation of the ambitious approach that was originally suggested in the first papers on geometric complexity theory by Mulmuley and Sohoni (SIAM J Comput 2001, 2008): Before our paper, all existence proofs of obstructions only took into account the symmetry group of one of the two polynomials (or tensors) that were to be separated. In our paper the multiplicity obstruction is obtained by comparing the representation theoretic decomposition coefficients of both symmetry groups. Our proof uses a semi-explicit description of the coordinate ring of the orbit closure of the power sum polynomial in terms of Young tableaux, which enables its comparison to the coordinate ring of the orbit.

Abstract:We prove that a Dirichlet series with a functional equation and Euler product of a particular form can only arise from a holomorphic cusp form on the Hecke congruence group $\Gamma_0(13)$. The proof does not assume a functional equation for the twists of the Dirichlet series. The main new ingredient is a generalization of the familiar Weil's lemma that played a prominent role in previous converse theorems.

Hecke orbits and the Mordell-Lang conjecture in distinguished categories

Abstract:Inspired by recent work of Aslanyan and Daw, we introduce the notion of $\Sigma$-orbits in the general framework of distinguished categories. In the setting of connected Shimura varieties, this concept contains many instances of (generalized) Hecke orbits from the literature. In the setting of semiabelian varieties, a $\Sigma$-orbit is a subgroup of finite rank. We show that our $\Sigma$-orbits have useful functorial properties and we use them to formulate two general statements of Mordell-Lang type (a weak one and an apparently stronger one). We prove an analogue of a recent theorem of Aslanyan and Daw in this general setting, which we apply to deduce an unconditional result about unlikely intersections in a fibered power of the Legendre family.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a representation-theoretic Kac--Moody group associated to a nonsingular symmetrizable generalized Cartan matrix. We first consider Kac-Moody analogs of Borel Eisenstein series (induced from quasicharacters on the Borel), and prove they converge almost everywhere inside the Tits cone for arbitrary spectral parameters in the Godement range. We then use this result to show the full absolute convergence everywhere inside the Tits cone (again for spectral parameters in the Godement range) for a class of Kac-Moody groups satisfying a certain combinatorial property, in particular for rank-2 hyperbolic groups.

The geometric concentration theorem

Abstract:We establish a purely geometric form of the concentration theorem (also called localization theorem) for actions of a linearly reductive group $G$ on an affine scheme $X$ over an affine base scheme $S$. It asserts the existence of a $G$-representation without trivial summand over $S$, which acquires over $X$ an equivariant section vanishing precisely at the fixed locus of $X$. As a consequence, we show that the equivariant stable motivic homotopy theory of a scheme with an action of a linearly reductive group is equivalent to that of the fixed locus, upon inverting appropriate maps, namely the Euler classes of representations without trivial summands. We also discuss consequences for equivariant cohomology theories obtained using Borel's construction. This recovers most known forms of the concentration theorem in algebraic geometry, and yields generalizations valid beyond the setting of actions of diagonalizable groups on one hand, and that of oriented cohomology theories on the other hand. Finally, we derive a version of Smith theory for motivic cohomology, following the approach of Dwyer--Wilkerson in topology.

Abstract:Consider a simple algebraic group $G$ of classical type and its Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$. Let $(e,h,f) \subset \mathfrak{g}$ be an $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-triple and $Q_e= C_G(e,h,f)$. The torus $T_e$ that comes from the $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-triple acts on the Springer fiber $\mathcal{B}_e$. Let $\mathcal{B}_e^{gr}$ denote the fixed point loci of $\mathcal{B}_e$ under this torus action. Our main geometric result is that when the partition of $e$ has up to $4$ rows, the derived category $D^b(\mathcal{B}_e^{gr})$ admits a complete exceptional collection that is compatible with the $Q_e$-action. The objects in this collection give us a finite set $Y_e$ that is naturally equipped with a $Q_e$-centrally extended structure. We prove that the set $Y_e$ constructed in this way coincides with a finite set that has appeared in various contexts in representation theory. For example, a direct summand $J_c$ of the asymptotic Hecke algebra is isomorphic to $K_0(Sh^{Q_e}(Y_e\times Y_e)$. The left cells in the two-sided cell $c$ corresponding to the adjoint orbit of $e$ are in bijection with the $Q_e$-orbits in $Y_e$. Our main numerical result is an algorithm to compute the multiplicities of the $Q_e$-centrally extended orbits that appear in $Y_e$.

Effective zero-cycles and the Bloch-Beilinson filtration

Abstract:A conjecture of Voisin states that two points on a smooth projective complex variety whose algebra of holomorphic forms is generated in degree 2 are rationally equivalent to each other if and only if their difference lies in the third step of the Bloch-Beilinson filtration. In this note, we formulate a generalization that allows for rational equivalence of effective zero-cycles of higher degree, at the expense of looking deeper in the Bloch-Beilinson filtration. In the first half, we provide evidence in support of this conjecture in the case of abelian varieties and projective hyper-Kähler manifolds. Notably, we give explicit criteria for rational equivalence of effective zero-cycles on moduli spaces of semistable sheaves on K3 surfaces, generalizing that of Marian-Zhao. In the second half, in an effort to explain our main conjecture, we formulate a second conjecture predicting when the diagonal of a smooth projective variety belongs to a subalgebra of the ring of correspondences generated in low degree.

Abstract:Let $A(\ell,n,k)$ denote the number of $\ell$-tuples of commuting permutations of $n$ elements whose permutation action results in exactly $k$ orbits or connected components. We provide a new proof of an explicit formula for $A(\ell,n,k)$ which is essentially due to Bryan and Fulman, in their work on orbifold higher equivariant Euler characteristics. Our proof is self-contained, elementary, and relies on the construction of an explicit bijection, in order to perform the $\ell+1\rightarrow \ell$ reduction. We also investigate a conjecture by the first author, regarding the log-concavity of $A(\ell,n,k)$ with respect to $k$. The conjecture generalizes a previous one by Heim and Neuhauser related to the Nekrasov-Okounkov formula.
