Abstract:Let $X$ be a Stein manifold of dimension at least 3. Given a compact codimension 2 real analytic submanifold $M$ of $X$, that is the boundary of a compact Levi-flat hypersurface $H$, we study the regularity of $H$. Suppose that the CR singularities of $M$ are an $\mathcal{O}(X)$-convex set. For example, suppose $M$ has only finitely many CR singularities, which is a generic condition. Then $H$ must in fact be a real analytic submanifold. If $M$ is real algebraic, it follows that $H$ is real algebraic and in fact extends past $M$, even near CR singularities. To prove these results we provide two variations on a theorem of Malgrange, that a smooth submanifold contained in a real analytic subvariety of the same dimension is itself real analytic. We prove a similar theorem for submanifolds with boundary, and another one for subanalytic sets.

Abstract:A local uniqueness property of holomorphic functions on real-analytic nowhere minimal CR submanifolds of higher codimension is investigated. A sufficient condition called almost minimality is given and studied. A weaker necessary condition, being contained a possibly singular real-analytic Levi-flat hypersurface is studied and characterized. This question is completely resolved for algebraic submanifolds of codimension 2 and a sufficient condition for noncontainment is given for non algebraic submanifolds. As a consequence, an example of a submanifold of codimension 2, not biholomorphically equivalent to an algebraic one, is given. We also investigate the structure of singularities of Levi-flat hypersurfaces.

Abstract:Let Ω be a pseudoconvex domain with C-smooth boundary in CP . We prove that the ∂̄-Neumann operator N exists for (p, q)-forms on Ω. Furthermore, there exists a t0 > 0 such that the operators N , ∂̄N , ∂̄N and the Bergman projection are regular in the Sobolev space W (Ω̄) for t < t0. The boundary estimates above have applications in complex geometry. We use the estimates to prove the nonexistence of C real Levi-flat hypersurfaces in CP . We also show that there exist no non-zero L-holomorphic (p, 0)-forms on any pseudoconcave domain in CP n with p > 0.

Abstract:A holomorphic conformal structure on a complex manifold X is an everywhere non-degenerate section [Formula: see text] for some line bundle N. In this paper, we show that if X is a projective complex n-dimensional manifold with non-numerically effective K x and admits a holomorphic conformal structure, then X ≅ Q n . This in particular answers affirmatively a question of Kobayashi and Ochiai. They asked if the same holds assuming c 1 (X) > 0. As a consequence, we also show that any projective conformal manifold with an immersed rational null geodesic is necessarily a smooth hyperquadric Q n .

Abstract:Let $M$ be an oriented geometrically finite hyperbolic manifold of infinite volume with dimension at least $3$. For all $k \geq 0$, we provide a lower bound on the $k$th eigenvalue of the Laplace-Beltrami operator of $M$ by the $k$th eigenvalue of some neighborhood of the thick part of the convex core, up to a constant. As an application, we recover a theorem similar to the one of Burger and Canary which bounds the bottom $\lambda_0$ of the spectrum from below by $\frac{c}{\text{vol}(C_1(M))^2}$, where $C_1(M)$ is the $1$-neighborhood of the convex core and $c$ is a constant.

Abstract:We present examples of holomorphic functions that vanish to in- finite order at points at the boundary of their domain of definition. They give rise to examples of Dirichlet minimizing Q-valued functions indicating that "higher"-regularity boundary results are difficult. Furthermore we dis- cuss some implication to branching and vanishing phenomena in the context of minimal surfaces, Q-valued functions and unique continuation.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the problem of constructing a smooth Levi-flat hypersurface locally or globally attached to a real codimension two submanifold in $\mathbb C^{n+1}$, or more generally in a Stein manifold, with elliptic CR singularities, a research direction originated from a fundamental and classical paper of E. Bishop. Earlier works along these lines include those by many prominent mathematicians working both on complex analysis and geometry. We prove that a compact smooth (or, real analytic) real codimension two submanifold $M$, that is contained in the boundary of a smoothly bounded strongly pseudoconvex domain, with a natural and necessary condition called CR non-minimal condition at CR points and with two elliptic CR singular points bounds a smooth-up-to-boundary (real analytic-up-to-boundary, respectively) Levi-flat hypersurface $\widehat{M}$. This answers a well-known question left open from the work of Dolbeault-Tomassini-Zaitsev, or a generalized version of a problem already asked by Bishop in 1965. Our study here reveals an intricate interaction of several complex analysis with other fields such as symplectic geometry and foliation theory.

Abstract:Local conditions on boundaries of $C^\infty$ Levi-flat hypersurfaces, in case the boundary is a generic submanifold, are studied. For nontrivial real analytic boundaries we get an extension and uniqueness result, which forces the hypersurface to be real analytic. This allows us to classify all real analytic generic boundaries of Levi-flat hypersurfaces in terms of their normal coordinates. For the remaining case of generic real analytic boundary we get a weaker extension theorem. We find examples to show that these two extension results are optimal. Further, a class of nowhere minimal real analytic submanifolds is found, which is never the boundary of even a $C^2$ Levi-flat hypersurface.

Abstract:We construct the first examples of hypersurfaces in any contact manifold of dimension 5 and larger that cannot be $C^2$-approximated by convex hypersurfaces. This contrasts sharply with the foundational result of Giroux in dimension $3$ and the work of Honda-Huang in the $C^0$ case. The main technical step is the construction of a Bonatti-Diaz type blender in the contact setting.

Abstract:We show that the existence of a function in $L^{1}$ with constant geodesic X-ray transform imposes geometrical restrictions on the manifold. The boundary of the manifold has to be umbilical and in the case of a strictly convex Euclidean domain, it must be a ball. Functions with constant geodesic X-ray transform always exist on manifolds with rotational symmetry.

Abstract:We show that if $\Omega$ is an $m$-convex domain in $\mathbb R^n$ for some $2\le m<n$ whose boundary $b\Omega$ has a tubular neighbourhood of positive radius and is not $m$-flat near infinity, then $\Omega$ does not contain any immersed parabolic minimal submanifold of dimension $\ge m$. In particular, if $M$ is a properly embedded nonflat minimal hypersurface in $\mathbb R^n$ with a tubular neighbourhood of positive radius then every immersed parabolic hypersurface in $\mathbb R^n$ intersects $M$. In dimension $n=3$ this holds if $M$ has bounded Gaussian curvature. We also introduce the class of weakly hyperbolic domains $\Omega$ in $\mathbb R^n$ characterised by the property that every conformal harmonic map $\mathbb C\to\Omega$ is constant, and we elucidate their relationship with hyperbolic domains and domains without parabolic minimal surfaces.

Abstract:We show that each pseudoconvex domain $\Omega \subset {\mathbb {C}}^n$ admits a holomorphic map $F$ to ${\mathbb {C}}^m$ with $|F|\le C_1 e^{C_2 \hat{\delta }^{-6}}$, where $\hat{\delta }$ is the minimum of the boundary distance and $(1+|z|^2)^{-1/2}$, such that every boundary point is a Casorati–Weierstrass point of $F$. Based on this fact, we introduce a new anti-hyperbolic concept—universal dominability. We also show that for each $\alpha >6$ and each pseudoconvex domain $\Omega \subset {\mathbb C}^n$, there is a holomorphic function $f$ on ${\Omega }$ with $|f|\le C_\alpha e^{C_\alpha ' \hat{\delta }^{-\alpha }}$, such that every boundary point is a Picard point of $F$. Applications to the construction of holomorphic maps of a given domain onto some ${\mathbb C}^m$ are given.
On the structure of compact Kähler manifolds with nonnegative holomorphic sectional curvature

Abstract:In this paper, we establish a "pseudo-effective" version of the holonomy principle for compact Kähler manifolds with nonnegative holomorphic sectional curvature. As applications, we prove that if a compact complex manifold $M$ admits a Kähler metric $\omega$ with nonnegative holomorphic sectional curvature and $(M,\omega)$ has no nonzero truly flat tangent vector at some point (which is satisfied when the holomorphic sectional curvature is quasi-positive), then $M$ must be projective and rationally connected. This answers a problem raised by Matsumura and Yang and extends Yau's conjecture. We also prove that a compact simply connected Kähler manifold with nonnegative holomorphic sectional curvature is projective and rationally connected. Additionally, we classify non-projective Kähler 3-dimensional manifolds with nonnegative holomorphic sectional curvature. Furthermore, we show that a compact Kähler manifold admits a Hermitian metric with positive real bisectional curvature is a projective and rationally connected manifold.

Abstract:In this note, we study the relation between the existence of a negatively curved complete hermitian metric on a complex manifold M and the product structure of (or contained in) M. We introduce the concept of geometric ranks and give a curvature characterization of the rank one manifolds, which generalizes the previous results of P. Yang and N. Mok (see below). In the proof, we used the old techniques of Yau's Schwartz lemma and Cheng-Yau's result on the existence of Kahler-Einstein metrics.
