Abstract:A long-standing conjecture asserts that every finite non-abelian $p$-group has a non-inner automorphism of order $p$. In this paper, we settle the conjecture for a finite $p$-group ($p >2$) of nilpotency class $n$ with certain conditions.

Abstract:Let $p$ be a prime number. A longstanding conjecture asserts that every finite non-abelian $p$-group has a non-inner automorphism of order $p$. In this paper, we prove that if $G$ is an odd order finite non-abelian monolithic $p$-group such that every maximal subgroup of $G$ is non-abelian and $[Z(M), g] \leq Z(G)$ for every maximal subgroup $M$ of $G$ and $g \in G \setminus M$. Then $G$ has a non-inner automorphism of order $p$ leaving the Frattini subgroup $\Phi(G)$ elementwise fixed.

Abstract:Let G be a finite abelian group with |G| > 1. Let a (1), aEuro broken vertical bar, a (k) be k distinct elements of G and let b (1), aEuro broken vertical bar, b (k) be (not necessarily distinct) elements of G, where k is a positive integer smaller than the least prime divisor of |G|. We show that there is a permutation pi on {1, aEuro broken vertical bar,k} such that a (1) b (pi(1)), aEuro broken vertical bar, a (k) b (pi(k)) are distinct, provided that any other prime divisor of |G| (if there is any) is greater than k!. This in particular confirms the Dasgupta-Karolyi-Serra-Szegedy conjecture for abelian p-groups. We also pose a new conjecture involving determinants and characters, and show that its validity implies Snevily's conjecture for abelian groups of odd order. Our methods involve exterior algebras and characters.

Abstract:We consider groups $G$ such that the set $[G,\varphi]=\{g^{-1}g^{\varphi}|g\in G\}$ is a subgroup for every automorphism $\varphi$ of $G$, and we prove that there exists such a group $G$ that is finite and nilpotent of class $n$ for every $n\in\mathbb N$. Then there exists an infinite nonnilpotent group with the above property and the conjecture 18.14 of $[5]$ is false.

Abstract:Consider a finite group $G$ of order $n$ with a prime divisor $p$. In this article, we establish, among other results, that if the Sylow $p$-subgroup of $G$ is neither cyclic nor generalized quaternion, then there exists a bijection $f$ from $G$ onto the abelian group $C_{\frac{n}{p}}\times C_p$ such that for every element $x$ in $G$, the order of $x$ divides the order of $f(x)$. This resolves Question 1.5 posed in \cite{mohsen}. As application of our results, we show that the group with the third largest value of the sum of element orders in the set of all finite groups of order $n$ is a solvable $p$-nilpotent group where $p$ is the smallest prime divisor of $n$ such that the Sylow $p$-subgroups are not cyclic.

Abstract:We give elementary proofs of the following two theorems on automorphisms of a finite group G: (1) An automorphism of G is inner if and only if it extends to an automorphism of every finite group containing G. (2) There exists a finite group, whose outer automorphism group is isomorphic to G. The first theorem was proved by Pettet using a graph-theoretical construction of Heineken-Liebeck. A Lie-theoretical proof of the second theorem was sketched by Cornulier in a MathOverflow post. Our proofs are purely group-theoretical.

Abstract:Let $G$ be an infinite-dimensional real classical group containing the complete unitary group (or complete orthogonal group) as a subgroup. Then $G$ generates a category of double cosets (train) and any unitary representation of $G$ can be canonically extended to the train. We prove a technical lemma about the complete group $GL$ of infinite $p$-adic matrices with integer coefficients, this lemma implies that the phenomenon of automatic extension of unitary representations to trains is valid for infinite-dimensional $p$-adic groups.

Abstract:Let G be a finite group and p be a prime. We define to be the intersection of the normalizers of the p -nilpotent residuals of all two-generator subgroups of G whose p -nilpotent residuals are nilpotent. We show that . Using the method in the present paper, we will be able to give an affirmative answer to an open problem in Shen et al. (Mediterr J Math 19:191, 2022), which also indicates that similar conclusions hold for many formations. It is also proved that if and only if every three-generator subgroup H of G satisfies . To this end, we introduce and investigate the IO - -groups, i.e., the groups G such that but each proper subgroup and each proper quotient of G equals its p -nilpotent norm. Moreover, new results in terms of the p -nilpotent norm and the p -nilpotent hypernorm are given.

Abstract:Let G be a nilpotent π-group of finite rank,α and β be two automorphisms of G.Suppose that 1 = ζ0G < ζ1G < ··· < ζcG = G is the upper central series of G,and αi and βi are the automorphisms of ζiG/ζi-1G induced by α and β,respectively.If Im(αiβi-βiαi) is either a cyclic group or T ♁ D,where T is a cyclic group and D is a divisible group of rank 1,then <α,β> is NAF-.In particular,if α and β are two π'-automorphisms of G,then(i) in the case Im(αiβi-βiαi) is cyclic,<α,β> is an extension of a finite nilpotent π-group by a finite abelian π'-group;(ii) in the case Im(αiβi-βiαi) is either a cyclic group or T ♁ D,<α,β> is a residually finite π ∪ π'-group and is a(finitely-generated torsion-free nilpotent group)by-(finite nilpotent π-group)-by-(finite abelian π'-group).In addition,we investigate the dual problem for the lower central series of G and obtain the dual results.

Abstract:In this paper we consider two functions related to the arithmetic and geometric means of element orders of a finite group, showing that certain lower bounds on such functions strongly affect the group structure. In particular, for every prime p , we prove a sufficient condition for a finite group to be p -nilpotent, that is, a group whose elements of p′ -order form a normal subgroup. Moreover, we characterize finite cyclic groups with prescribed number of prime divisors.

Abstract:Let G be a group, p a prime and Hp(G)$$H_p(G)$$ the subgroup of G generated by the elements of order different from p. In 1957, D. R. Hughes conjectured that either Hp(G)=1$$H_p(G)=1$$, Hp(G)=G$$H_p(G)=G$$, or [G:Hp(G)]=p$$[G:H_p(G)]=p$$. In this paper, we prove this conjecture for finite extraspecial p-groups (where p>2$$p>2$$), finite minimal non-abelian p-groups and finite non-abelian p-groups having cyclic maximal subgroup. Moreover, we give some sufficient conditions for 2-generated finite non-abelian p-groups which guarantee the existence of the Hughes conjecture.

Abstract:For a finite group $G,$ $D(G)$ is defined as the least positive integer $k$ such that for every sequence $S=g_1 g_2\cdots g_k$ of length $k$ over $G$, there exist $1 \le i_1 < i_2 <\cdots < i_m \le k $ such that $\prod_{j=1}^{m} g_{i_{\sigma(j)}}=1$ holds for $\sigma = id,$ identity element of $S_m.$ For a finite abelian group, this group invariant, known as the Davenport constant, is crucial in the theory of non-unique factorization domains. The precise value of this invariant, even for a finite abelian group of rank greater than $2$, is not known yet. In 1977, Olson and White first worked with this invariant for finite non-abelian groups. After that in 2004, Dimitrov dealt with it, where he proved that $D(G)\leq L(G)$ for a finite $p$-group $G$, where $p$ is a prime and $L(G)$ is the Loewy length of $\mathbb{F}_pG.$ He conjectured that equality holds for all finite $p$-groups. In this article, we compute $D(G)$ for a certain subclass of $2$-generated finite $p$-groups of nilpotency class two and show that the conjecture is true by determining the precise value of the Loewy length of $\mathbb{F}_pG.$ We also evaluate $D(G)$ for finite dicyclic, semi-dihedral and some other groups.
