Abstract:Agro-processing industry is faced with a challenge of slicing of vegetables for immediate consumption. This stems from the fact that the traditional slicing methods use bare hands, and knives. This method is faced with shortcomings of inefficiency, poor hygiene, and significant dangers to injury. If vegetables are not sliced, their drying takes longer, may possibly be spoiled, and cannot be stored for future uses. Therefore, this paper strives to design a vegetable slicing machine to increase the efficiency of the drying process as a post-processing step. The study employed a Pugh’s design model to design the machine and manufacture it. First, the necessary information for the design was collected. Thereafter, the machine was designed according to specifications – 0.5 hp, 1400 rpm motor; with a capacity of slicing of 30 kg/h, at an efficiency of 86%. The prototype was tested using carrots. The whole testing was conducted with no injury, and ease to the users. It is advised to automate the vegetable feeding process and reduce the size for future improvements of the vegetable slicing machine.

Abstract:The demand for fruit is very large, especially fresh-cut fruit is more and more popular, custom-cut fruit machine has emerged. However, the current market of automatic cutting machine exists in general low efficiency, poor applicability of the problem. The author has carried on the market research according to the people's consumption habit, and has completed a new-type fruit cutting machine design. In this paper, a small automatic dicing machine is designed for household use, which adopts the design idea of household appliances, in the work efficiency, product appearance, the use of experience and manufacturing costs to give the most appropriate solution, the use of rotary cutter plus combination of cutter design of raw materials to cut into ding. The structure of the cutting machine is designed by 3D modeling software, and the rationality of the design is verified by movement simulation and finite element analysis. After the design is completed, some physical models are made to verify the working principle of the core structure, and the improvement scheme is put forward. The experiment shows that the fruit cutting machine can complete the specified task, cutting efficiency is higher, fruit waste less, fill the gap in the market, but also provide a reference for other designers.
Development of multifunctional fresh-cutting machine for fruits and vegetables

Abstract:For the domestic demand of fresh-cut fruits and vegetables processing,a fruits and vegetables cutting machine was developed which could have slicing,shredding and dicing.The machine adopted three-dimensional processing model by fruits and vegetables sliced with centrifugal cutting method and shred by circular knives and diced by cross-section knife.Then transmission system program and main structure of the machine were designed and parameter calculation was done.Considering multi-purpose requirements of fruit and vegetable processing,circular knives and cross-section knives were assembled and disassembled efficiently.The results of cutting performance tests showed that the pass rate of fruits and vegetables dicer was 96.5%,power for 1.38 kW,which meet the design requirements.

Abstract:The main aim of the present study is to design, fabricate and evaluate a slicing machine for potato chips to be used in small and medium production units locally available materials like stainless steel and mild steel were used in fabrication. The obtained results indicated that the machine productivity increased from 256.021 to 387.670, 201.879 to 448.670 and 250.070 to 392.290 kg h-1 with increasing potato size from small to large, slice thickness from 1.0 to 2.5 mm and slice thickness from 1.0 to 2.5 mm, respectively. The uniformity index increased from 76.598 to 83.372, 73.472 to 87.103 and 73.615 to 86.422% with increasing potato size from small to large, slice thickness from 1.0 to 2.5 mm and slicer thickness from 1.0 to 2.5 mm, respectively. The cutting efficiency increased from 87.582 to 93.305 and 89.531 to 92.209 % with increasing potato size from small to large, slice thickness from 1.0 to 2.5 mm, respectively, while it decreased from 92.325 to 89.829% with increasing cutting speed from 250 to 550 rpm, respectively. The specific energy consumption decreased from 2.446 to 1.663, 3.042 to 1.464 and 2.608 to 1.578 W.h kg-1 with increasing potato size from small to large, slice thickness from 1.0 to 2.5 mm and cutting speed from 250 to 550 rpm, respectively.The total cost of slicing machine decreased from 0.085 to 0.055, 0.102 to 0.044 and 0.091 to 0.054 LE kg-1 with increasing potato size from small to large, slice thickness from 1.0 to 2.5 mm and cutting speed from 250 to 550 rpm, respectively.

Abstract:In the era of industrialization, automatic machines become an integral part of human life. These machines help to reduce the time needed to do a specific task. Nowadays, human life becomes more competitive and faster than the previous. Automation brought about by technology has saved human effort and time to a large extent. Slicing vegetables are a risky and time-consuming task in our busy life. This project is aimed at solving above stated problems by introducing a special product named Automatic Vegetable Chopper. This chopper is mainly designed to reduce human effort and make the job of chopping vegetables much easier and faster. Its main features are fully automated, easily portable, less power consumption and changeable stainless, sharp blade, etc. This product is designed and established by following a structured product design process and with the help of a board of design engineers. Product planning, customer needs identifying, product specification, concept screening, concept scoring and bill of materials are tools that mainly used to accomplish this task. Finally, this paper also suggests various techniques and opportunities of product planning in manufacturing industries as future recommendations.

Abstract:The scope of this project was to design and development of a portable shredder machine; focuses on chopping of coconut leaves, Areca leaves and paddy straw, later this chopped powder is a source to prepare the vermin compost. The task started with the accumulation of information and data, through survey in agricultural and literature studies. Existing models are hand wheel operated, vertical and horizontal electric chopping shredder is prone to have problems like large space requirement, uneven cutting, and manpower requirement. Hence traditional methods are not sufficient and satisfactory for chopping the crop residues. Considering the user’s needs and buying capacity a prototype was designed and constructed. The proposed prototype is so designed to guide materials in different compartments by power driven transmission through chain, belt, pulley and spur gear attachment to have a chopped and powder materials. The overall operation of the proposed shredder, running at a cutting speed of 700 RPM nearly has a cutting efficiency up to 90%.

Development of a lemon cutting machine

Abstract:Cutting of lemon and other similar fruits is conventionally done manually by sharp knife, which is labor intensive and often un-hygienic. In the present work, a device has been designed and developed for cutting of lemon hygienically into four pieces of similar shape based on stationery cutters and rotating centralizing/locating slit plate concept. Machine has a unique knife assembly consisting of two bird wing shaped knives, joined by welding perpendicularly to a vertical knife, so that the lemon can be cut into four pieces in a single sweep. Six numbers of rotating centralizing/locating slit plates are welded on to the side plates and the plates carry a groove on its inner face, to enable the wing shaped knife to complete the horizontal cut. The rotating slit plates, having centralizing angle of 90°, are rotated by an electric geared motor. The prototype machine has capacity of over 5,000 lemons/h with a power consumption of 0.11 kW.

Abstract:Abstract With the continuous development of the Internet of Things technology, people’s requirements for quality of life are gradually improving. However, cutting vegetables is still a manual work with low efficiency. Food processing has many shapes, high requirements, time-consuming and labor-consuming, and there is a certain risk factor. Therefore, a new type of vegetable cutter is designed. After the objects are loaded in the feeding box, they are conveyed and fixed, so that the device can automatically press, cut and drive vegetables, and make artificially desired slices, filaments, blocks, peels and the like according to different requirements of dishes, which is small in size, low in noise, safe and convenient.

Abstract:Background: Meat, as protein-rich food, provides essential nutrition to humans. Meat consumption is expected to increase by 15% over the next decade, requiring the meat industry to boost its capacity. However, the meat cutting industry's harsh working environment and long-term heavy workload result in a labor shortage. Lowmargin and low capacity require innovative processing methods. Hence, some novel automation methods are urgently demanded to meet these challenges. Accompanied by the development of Industry 4.0, robotization and intelligent systems are progressively applied in the meat cutting industry, which can provide a flexible, adaptive, and sustainable processing approach. Scope and approach: The paper selected 50 papers using the systematic literature review method. This paper provides an overview of the current research and commercial applications of cutting robotization from livestock, poultry, and fish in the meat industry. Additionally, intelligent sensing technologies, advanced cutting techniques, and a novel manufacturing concept called the meat factory cell, are emphasized to promote efficiency, scalability, and modularization. Finally, we discuss the potential applications of digital technologies in the meat cutting industry and the focal points of future research aiming to promote cutting robotization. Key findings and conclusions: The meat cutting process can be highly robotized by integrating dexterous cutting robots, advanced sensing techniques, and digital systems, driving the transformation from manual labor to robotic, efficient, and intelligent manufacturing. Consequently, robotization and intelligent digital systems can provide a brand-new manufacturing method to the meat cutting industry and advance the Meat factory 4.0.

Abstract:Influenced by scaling?off cutting, to the mass produced rods and steel tube blank, the phenomena of burr and flashing are found. If the parts are processed by manual chamfering and lathe, it is tremendously labor intensive and low efficiency. To solve the problem, an efficient double?headed automatic chamfering machine was designed based on PLC control. The structural components of the chamfering machine were introduced , the gas?liquid control diagram and the electric control schematic figure including the flow chart of software programming were described in detail. The practices have proven productivity and end quality are improved greatly be?cause the chamfering machine can be used to realize double end continuous processing although loading once.

Abstract:The project aims to help people especially those who are working in call centres to enjoy eating noodles easily and quickly during their short breaks. The unique feature of this instant noodle vending machine is that it eliminates the use of plastic or paper cups during dispensing. Instead, cooked noodle mix is directly dispensed into the mug provided by the user. The working prototype is flexible to dispense crushed noodles, four different flavours to choose from, and hot water. The dispensing process is sequential which starts from the detection of the cup, crushed noodles dispensing, seasoning dispensing based on the desired flavour, and lastly, the water injection. The researchers were able to design and fabricate the machine based on set standards with an acceptable percent error which are within the tolerance limits. The working prototype was fabricated, and statistical results showed an acceptable range of values.

Safely and Autonomously Cutting Meat with a Collaborative Robot Arm

Abstract:Labor shortages in the United States are impacting a number of industries including the meat processing sector. Collaborative technologies that work alongside humans while increasing production abilities may support the industry by enhancing automation and improving job quality. However, existing automation technologies used in the meat industry have limited collaboration potential, low flexibility, and high cost. The objective of this work was to explore the use of a robot arm to collaboratively work alongside a human and complete tasks performed in a meat processing facility. Toward this objective, we demonstrated proof-of-concept approaches to ensure human safety while exploring the capacity of the robot arm to perform example meat processing tasks. In support of human safety, we developed a knife instrumentation system to detect when the cutting implement comes into contact with meat within the collaborative space. To demonstrate the capability of the system to flexibly conduct a variety of basic meat processing tasks, we developed vision and control protocols to execute slicing, trimming, and cubing of pork loins. We also collected a subjective evaluation of the actions from experts within the U.S. meat processing industry. On average the experts rated the robot's performance as adequate. Moreover, the experts generally preferred the cuts performed in collaboration with a human worker to cuts completed autonomously, highlighting the benefits of robotic technologies that assist human workers rather than replace them. Abstract:Meat quality determination is now more vital than ever, with an ever-increasing demand for meat, especially with a greater desire for high-quality beef. Many existing qualitative methods currently used for meat quality assessment are strenuous, time-consuming, and subjective. The quantitative techniques employed are time-consuming, destructive, and expensive. In the search for a quantitative, rapid, and non-destructive method of determining meat quality, the use of autofluorescence has been employed and has demonstrated its capabilities to characterise meat grades by identifying biochemical features such as the intramuscular fat and tryptophan content through the excitation of meat samples and the collection and analysis of the emission data. Despite its success, the method remains expensive and inaccessible, thus preventing it from being translated into small-scale industry applications. This study will detail the process taken to design and construct a low-cost, miniature prototype device that could successfully distinguish between varying meat grades using autofluorescence imaging and machine learning techniques.

Abstract:The International Journal of Robotics Research, Ahead of Print. Automation is critically important for sustainability in meat production, where heavy reliance on human labour is a growing challenge. In this work, a novel robotic Meat Factory Cell (MFC) platform presents the opportunity for unconventional automation in pork meat processing, particularly abattoirs. Instead of following line-based approaches, which are the main option today, it uses robotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to perform complex cutting and manipulation operations on entire unchilled pork carcasses, with awareness of biological variation and deformation. The long-term goal of the MFC is to take a pork carcass as an input and produce seven primal outputs: hams, shoulders, saddle, belly and entire organ set. However, the MFC platform is under continuous development – therefore, this paper aims to demonstrate it through a specific use-case: shoulder removal. The system is evaluated based on data from testing and development sessions (June–November 2022), with a total of 34 attempted shoulder removals. Data regarding the MFCs' ability to handle variation, in addition to success rate and process timing models are presented. Qualitative feedback from skilled butchers is also discussed. The authors propose that, as well as technical development of the platform, it is important to consider new ways of comparing unconventional systems with their conventional counterparts. Innovative manufacturing systems have more to offer than raw speed and volume; traits such as flexibility, robustness and scalability – particularly economic scalability – should play a prominent role. Future legislation and standards must also encourage innovation rather than hinder innovative robotics solutions.

The automation system solves the labour problems it saves cost, increases accuracy, decreases human errors. By using automation our objectives to achieve low cost cutting which works fast and reduces cutting time. The practical objective of automatic wire cutting machine is to cut required length of wire in required number of pieces. This machine is simple and portable.

Abstract:The Use of plastic is increasing day to day life in present scenario which cause a serious environmental issue, for this purpose we need to make eco-friendly environment by recycling possible waste plastic. To solve this issue already exist highly operated machines but they are too costly.so, the main purpose of our study is to design and fabrication of cost effective plastic shredder machine, the use of power supply and single shaft mechanism which can be useful for Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises. To implement this concept plastic shredder machine implemented which consists some mechanical & electrical components like Frame, hopper, electric motor, V-belt drive System, shredder setup. This machine is used for cutting the plastic in to small pieces, which are in irregular shaped flakes which can be processed further Recycle recovers the raw material, which helps to make new plastic product. Recycled plastic pieces are fed in to extrusion machine where it can form wire like plastic called filament and further used in 3D printing machine.

Abstract:The objective of the research is to apply a chopper machine to process forage from sorghum plants for cattle feed and adopt a crop-livestock integrated system to support sustainable agriculture. A cross-flow type chopper machine has been developed for chopping sorghum crops at 7 t/h design capacity and cutting length of less than 10 mm. The machine consists of a cylinder chopper which is designed at 420 mm diameter, 540 mm length, and 1500 rpm. and a feeding conveyor. It has 18 pieces of cutting blades, installed at six rows around and three rows alternately along the chopper cylinder to minimize power requirement and vibration. The power requirement was 2.07 kW and 32.23 kW for feeding and chopping respectively. The performance test has been conducted at the farmer group in Kendit Sub-District, Situbondo district, and showed that the capacity was 7.2 t/h at 3-9 mm cutting length.

Abstract:In small and medium enterprise industry the usage of automation machine is not entirely applied in this sector. This is because of the initial cost to setup automation machine is higher than employed a worker to do the task. The main problem by using human workforce is worker need to do the repetitive task every single day. Human incline to start boring also the productivity of the worker is decreasing. By producing this portable Mini CNC Machine, the problem can be solved. This machine is going through the design development process from data comparison to product fabrication. The detailed design development process ensures that the final result of the machine is achieving the objective to reduce and eliminate repetitive task perform by human resources. The machine control by the new concept of the controller with an open-source controller that makes the machine more flexible and easier to handle. The machine is tested the machining tolerance to ensure the machine provides high accuracy result. Although, the machine still limited to perform the heavy-duty process, this machine can help small and medium enterprise industry increasing productivity by eliminating and reducing human error.
