Abstract:We study the Cuntz semigroup for non-simple $\text{C}^*$-algebras in this paper. In particular, we use the extended Elliott invariant to characterize the Cuntz comparison for $\text{C}^*$-algebras with the projection property which have only one ideal.

Abstract:The Cuntz comparison, introduced by Cuntz in early 1978, associates each C* -algebra with an abelian semigroup which is an invariant for the classification of the nuclear C* -algebras and called the Cuntz semigroup. In this paper, we study the Cuntz comparison in the standard C* -algebra. We characterize the Cuntz comparison in terms of the dimension of the operator range. Also, we consider the structure of the semilinear map which preserves the Cuntz comparison.

Abstract:We show that a number of naturally occurring comparison relations on positive elements in a C*-algebra are equivalent to natural comparison properties of their corresponding open projections in the bidual of the C*-algebra. In particular we show that Cuntz comparison of positive elements corresponds to a comparison relation on open projections, that we call Cuntz comparison, and which is defined in terms of-and is weaker than-a comparison notion defined by Peligrad and Zsidó. The latter corresponds to a well-known comparison relation on positive elements defined by Blackadar. We show that Murray-von Neumann comparison of open projections corresponds to tracial comparison of the corresponding positive elements of the C*-algebra. We use these findings to give a new picture of the Cuntz semigroup.

Abstract:In this paper, we show that for unital, separable C*-algebras of stable rank one and real rank zero, the unitary Cuntz semigroup functor and the functor K⁎ are natural equivalent. Then we introduce a refinement of the unitary Cuntz semigroup, say the total Cuntz semigroup, which is a new invariant for separable C⁎-algebras of stable rank one, is a well-defined continuous functor from the category of C⁎-algebras of stable rank one to the category Cu_. We prove that this new functor and the functor K_ are naturally equivalent for unital, separable, K-pure C⁎-algebras. Therefore, the total Cuntz semigroup is a complete invariant for a large class of C⁎-algebras of real rank zero.

Abstract:In this paper, we construct representatives for all equivalence classes of the unital essential extension algebras of Cuntz algebra by the C*-algebras of compact operators on a separable infinite-dimensional Hilbert space. We also compute their K-groups and semigroups and classify these extension algebras up to isomorphism by their semigroups.

Abstract:Cuntz algebra $\mathcal O_2$ is the universal $C^*$-algebra generated by two isometries $s_1, s_2$ satisfying $s_1s_1^*+s_2s_2^*=1$. This is separable, simple, infinite $C^*$-algebra containing a copy of any nuclear $C^*$-algebra. The $C^*$-algebra $\mathcal O_2$ plays a central role in the modern theory of $C^*$-algebras and appears in many substantial statements, including a formulation of the celebrated Uniform Coefficient Theorem (UCT). There are several extensions of this notion, including Cuntz algebra $\mathcal O_n$, Cuntz-Krieger algebra $\mathcal O_A$ for a matrix $A$, Cuntz-Pimsner algebra $\mathcal O_X$ and its relaxation by Katsura for a $C^*$-correspondence $X$, and Cuntz-Nica-Pimsner algebra $\mathcal {NO}_X$, for a product system $X$. We give an overview of the construction of these classes of $C^*$-algebras with a focus on conditions ensuring their simplicity, which is needed in the Elliott Classification Program, as it erature, except our discussion on the sufficient conditions for simplicity of the reduced Cuntz-Nica-Pimsner algebra $\mathcal{NO}^r_X$, which is known to expertsstands now. The results we present are now part of the lit, but might happen to be new for some of our audiences.

Abstract:The uncovering of new structure on the Cuntz semigroup of a C*-algebra of stable rank one leads to several applications: We answer affirmatively, for the class of stable rank one C*-algebras, a conjecture by Blackadar and Handelman on dimension functions, the Global Glimm Halving problem, and the problem of realizing functions on the cone of 2-quasitraces as ranks of Cuntz semigroup elements. We also gain new insights into the comparability properties of positive elements in C*-algebras of stable rank one.

Abstract:Let $A$ be a unital, simple and Z-stable C$^*$-algebra. We show that the set of positive elements in $A$ (resp. $A \otimes K$) belonging to a fixed non-compact Cuntz class is contractible as a topological subspace of $A$ (resp. $A \otimes K$). In light of earlier work by Zhang, Jiang and Hua in the compact case, we deduce a complete calculation of the homotopy groups of Cuntz classes for these algebras.

Abstract:In this paper, we exhibit two unital, separable, nuclear ${\rm C}^*$-algebras of stable rank one and real rank zero with the same ordered scaled total K-theory, but they are not isomorphic with each other, which forms a counterexample to Elliott Classification Conjecture for real rank zero setting. Thus, we introduce an additional normal condition and give a classification result in terms of total K-theory. For the general setting, with a new invariant -- total Cuntz semigroup \cite{AL}, we classify a large class of ${\rm C}^*$-algebras obtained from extensions. The total Cuntz semigroup, which distinguish the algebras of our counterexample, could possibly classify all the ${\rm C}^*$-algebras of stable rank one and real rank zero.

We show that the unitary group of [Formula: see text] has the cancellation property. If [Formula: see text] has continuous scale then the Cuntz semigroup of [Formula: see text] has strict comparison property and a weak cancellation property. Let [Formula: see text] be a 1-dimensional noncommutative CW complex with [Formula: see text] Suppose that [Formula: see text] is a morphism in the augmented Cuntz semigroups which is strictly positive. Then there exists a sequence of homomorphisms [Formula: see text] such that [Formula: see text] This result leads to the proof that every separable amenable simple [Formula: see text]-algebra[Formula: see text]in the UCT class has rationally generalized tracial rank at most one.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider $\text{C}^*$-algebras with the ideal property (the ideal property unifies the simple and real rank zero cases). We define two categories related the invariants of the $\text{C}^*$-algebras with the ideal property. And we showed that these two categories are in fact isomorphic. As a consequence, the Elliott's Invariant and the Stevens' Invariant are isomorphic for $\text{C}^*$-algebras with the ideal property.

Abstract:Let $A$ be a simple C*-algebra of stable rank one and let $p$ and $q$ be two $\sigma$-compact open projections. It is proved that there is a continuous path of unitaries in ${\tilde A}$ which connects open sub-projections of $p$ which is compactly contained in $p$ to those in $q.$ It is also shown that every Hilbert module is projective in the category whose morphisms are bounded module maps with adjoints. A discussion of projective Hilbert modules (whose morphisms are bounded module maps) is also given.

Abstract:We introduce a property of C*-correspondences, which we call Condition (S), to serve as an analogue of Condition (L) of graphs. We use Condition (S) to prove a Cuntz-Krieger Uniqueness Theorem for Cuntz-Pimsner algebras and obtain sufficient conditions for simplicity of Cuntz-Pimsner algebras. We also prove that if Q is a topological quiver with no sinks and X(Q) is the associated C*-correspondence, then X(Q) satisfies Condition (S) if and only if Q satisfies Condition(L). Finally, we consider several examples to compare and contrast Condition (S) with Schweizer's nonperiodic condition.

Abstract:For any ring $R$, we introduce an invariant in the form of a partially ordered abelian semigroup $\mathrm{S}(R)$ built from an equivalence relation on the class of countably generated projective modules. We call $\mathrm{S}(R)$ the Cuntz semigroup of the ring $R$. This construction is akin to the manufacture of the Cuntz semigroup of a C*-algebra using countably generated Hilbert modules. To circumvent the lack of a topology in a general ring $R$, we deepen our understanding of countably projective modules over $R$, thus uncovering new features in their direct limit decompositions, which in turn yields two equivalent descriptions of $\mathrm{S}(R)$. The Cuntz semigroup of $R$ is part of a new invariant $\mathrm{SCu}(R)$ which includes an ambient semigroup in the category of abstract Cuntz semigroups that provides additional information. We provide computations for both $\mathrm{S}(R)$ and $\mathrm{SCu}(R)$ in a number of interesting situations, such as unit-regular rings, semilocal rings, and in the context of nearly simple domains. We also relate our construcion to the Cuntz semigroup of a C*-algebra.

Abstract:Let H be a complex Hilbert space, A H the standard C*-algebra on H, and A H+ the set of all positive elements in A H. In 1977, Cuntz introduced a comparison in the set of all positive elements in a C*-algebra. Let A be a C*-algebra. For A, B∈A +, we write A≤B if there exists an element X∈A such that A=XBX*. In this paper, we characterize all weakly continuous semilinear surjective maps on A H+ which preserves the positive elements comparison in both directions.

Abstract:Given a correspondence X over a C*-algebra A, we construct a C*-algebra and a Hilbert C*-bimodule over it whose crossed product is isomorphic to the augmented Cuntz-Pimsner C*-algebra of X. This construction enables us to establish a condition for two augmented Cuntz-Pimsner C*-algebras to be Morita equivalent.

Abstract:In this paper we show that for an almost finite minimal ample groupoid $G$, its reduced $\mathrm{C}^*$-algebra $C_r^*(G)$ has real rank zero and strict comparison even though $C_r^*(G)$ may not be nuclear in general. Moreover, if we further assume $G$ being also second countable and non-elementary, then its Cuntz semigroup ${\rm Cu}(C_r^*(G))$ is almost divisible and ${\rm Cu}(C_r^*(G))$ and ${\rm Cu}(C_r^*(G)\otimes \mathcal{Z})$ are canonically order-isomorphic, where $\mathcal{Z}$ denotes the Jiang-Su algebra.
