Abstract:Let $R$ be a commutative ring with identity. The ring $R\times R$ can be viewed as an extension of $R$ via the diagonal map $\Delta: R \hookrightarrow R\times R$, given by $\Delta(r) = (r, r)$ for all $r\in R$. It is shown that, for any $a, b\in R$, the extension $\Delta(R)[(a,b)] \subset R\times R$ is a minimal ring extension if and only if the ideal $<a-b>$ is a maximal ideal of $R$. A complete classification of maximal subrings of $R(+)R$ is also given. The minimal ring extension of a von Neumann regular ring $R$ is either a von Neumann regular ring or the idealization $R(+)R/\mathfrak{m}$ where $\mathfrak{m}\in \text{Max}(R)$. If $R\subset T$ is a minimal ring extension and $T$ is an integral domain, then $(R:T) = 0$ if and only if $R$ is a field and $T$ is a minimal field extension of $R$, or $R_J$ is a valuation ring of altitude one and $T_{J}$ is its quotient field.

Abstract:In this paper we consider a wide class of generalized Lipschitz extension problems and the corresponding problem of finding absolutely minimal Lipschitz extensions. We prove that if a minimal Lipschitz extension exists, then under certain other mild conditions, a quasi absolutely minimal Lipschitz extension must exist as well. Here we use the qualifier "quasi" to indicate that the extending function in question nearly satisfies the conditions of being an absolutely minimal Lipschitz extension, up to several factors that can be made arbitrarily small.

Abstract:Consider the subring $\mathcal{R}_cL$ of continuous real-valued functions defined on a frame $L$, comprising functions with a countable pointfree image. We present some useful properties of $\mathcal{R}_cL$. We establish that both $\mathcal{R}_cL$ and its bounded part, $\mathcal{R}_c^*L$, are clean rings for any frame $L$. We show that, for any completely regular frame $L$, the $z_c$-ideals of $\mathcal{R}_cL$ are contractions of the $z$-ideals of $\mathcal{R}L$. This leads to the conclusion that maximal ideals (or prime $z_c$-ideals) of $\mathcal{R}_cL$ correspond precisely to the contractions of those of $\mathcal{R}L$. We introduce the ${\bf O}_c$- and ${\bf M}_c$-ideals of $\mathcal{R}_cL$. By using ${\bf M}_c$-ideals, we characterize the maximal ideals of $\mathcal{R}_cL$, drawing an analogy with the Gelfand-Kolmogoroff theorem for the maximal ideals of $C_c(X)$. We demonstrate that fixed maximal ideals of $\mathcal{R}_cL$ have a one-to-one correspondence with the points of $L$ in the case where $L$ is a zero-dimensional frame. We describe the maximal ideals of $\mathcal{R}_c^*L$, leading to a one-to-one correspondence between these ideals and the points of $\beta L$, the Stone-Čech compactification of $L$, when $L$ is a strongly zero-dimensional frame. Finally, we establish that $\beta_0L$, the Banaschewski compactification of a zero-dimensional $L$, is isomorphic to the frames of the structure spaces of $\mathcal{R}_cL$, $\mathcal{R}_c(\beta_0L)$, and $\mathcal{R}(\beta_0L)$.

Abstract:We prove that the Cox ring of the blowing-up of a minimal toric surface of Picard rank two is finitely generated. As part of our proof of this result we provide a necessary and sufficient condition for finite generation of Cox rings of normal projective $\mathbb Q$-factorial surfaces.

Abstract:The paper deals with ring extensions $R\subseteq S$ and the poset $[R,S]$ of their subextensions, with a special look at FCP extensions (extensions such that $[R,S]$ is Artinian and Noetherian). When the extension has FCP, we show that there exists a co-integral closure, that is a least element $\underline R$ in $[R,S]$ such that $\underline R \subseteq S$ is integral. Replacing the integral property by the integrally closed property, we are able to prove a similar result for an FCP extension. The radicial closure of $R$ in $S$ is well known. We are able to exhibit a suitable separable closure of $R$ in $S$ in case the extension has FCP, and then results are similar to those of field theory. The FCP property being always guaranteed, we discuss when an extension has a co-subintegral or a co-infra-integral closure. Our theory is made easier by using anodal extensions. These (co)-closures exist for example when the extension is catenarian, an interesting special case for the study of distributive extensions to appear in a forthcoming paper.
Minimal resolutions of Iwasawa modules

Abstract:In this paper, we study the module-theoretic structure of classical Iwasawa modules. More precisely, for a finite abelian $p$-extension $K/k$ of totally real fields and the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension $K_{\infty}/K$, we consider $X_{K_{\infty},S}={\rm Gal}(M_{K_{\infty},S}/K_{\infty})$ where $S$ is a finite set of places of $k$ containing all ramifying places in $K_{\infty}$ and archimedean places, and $M_{K_{\infty},S}$ is the maximal abelian pro-$p$-extension of $K_{\infty}$ unramified outside $S$. We give lower and upper bounds of the minimal numbers of generators and of relations of $X_{K_{\infty},S}$ as a $\mathbb{Z}_p[[{\rm Gal}(K_{\infty}/k)]]$-module, using the $p$-rank of ${\rm Gal}(K/k)$. This result explains the complexity of $X_{K_{\infty},S}$ as a $\mathbb{Z}_p[[{\rm Gal}(K_{\infty}/k)]]$-module when the $p$-rank of ${\rm Gal}(K/k)$ is large. Moreover, we prove an analogous theorem in the setting that $K/k$ is non-abelian. We also study the Iwasawa adjoint of $X_{K_{\infty},S}$, and the minus part of the unramified Iwasawa module for a CM-extension. In order to prove these theorems, we systematically study the minimal resolutions of $X_{K_{\infty},S}$.

There exists a definable bijection between a bounded interval and an unbounded interval. Abstract:Given a projective morphism $f:X\to Y$ from a complex space to a complex manifold, we prove the Griffiths semi-positivity and minimal extension property of the direct image sheaf $f_\ast(\mathscr{F})$. Here, $\mathscr{F}$ is a coherent sheaf on $X$, which consists of the Grauert-Riemenschneider dualizing sheaf, a multiplier ideal sheaf, and a variation of Hodge structure (or more generally, a tame harmonic bundle).

Abstract:We explore a pointfree approach to spaces which extends the category of $T_0$ spaces. Our pointfree objects are Raney extensions, pairs $(L,C)$ where $C$ is a coframe, $L\subseteq C$ is a frame which meet-generates it, and the inclusion $L\subseteq C$ preserves the frame operations as well as the strongly exact meets. We show that the category $\mathbf{Raney}$ extends that of $T_0$ spaces, by showing the existence of an adjunction which extends that between frames and spaces. We map a space $X$ to the pair $(\Omega(X),\mathcal{U}(X))$, where $\Omega(X)$ are its opens and $\mathcal{U}(X)$ its saturated sets. The spectrum functor $\mathsf{pt}_R$ maps a Raney extension $(L,C)$ to the collection of completely join-prime elements of $C$, suitably topologized. For a frame $L$ the spectra of the largest and the smallest Raney extensions over it are, respectively, the classical spectrum $\mathsf{pt}(L)$ and the $T_D$ spectrum $\mathsf{pt}_D(L)$.

Abstract:A lattice $\Lambda$ is said to be an extension of a sublattice $L$ of smaller rank if $L$ is equal to the intersection of $\Lambda$ with the subspace spanned by $L$. The goal of this paper is to initiate a systematic study of the geometry of lattice extensions. We start by proving the existence of a small-determinant extension of a given lattice, and then look at successive minima and covering radius. To this end, we investigate extensions (within an ambient lattice) preserving the successive minima of the given lattice, as well as extensions preserving the covering radius. We also exhibit some interesting arithmetic properties of deep holes of planar lattices.

Abstract:We are working in the category of commutative unital rings and denote by $\mathrm U(R)$ the group of units of a nonzero ring $R$. An extension of rings $R\subseteq S$, satisfying $\mathrm U(R)=R \cap\mathrm U(S)$ is usually called local. This paper is devoted to the study of ring extensions such that $\mathrm U(R)=\mathrm U(S)$, that we call strongly local. P. M. Cohn in a paper, entitled Rings with zero divisors, introduced some strongly local extensions. We generalized under the name Cohn's rings his definition and give a comprehensive study of these extensions. As a consequence, we give a constructive proof of his main result. Now Lequain and Doering studied strongly local extensions, where $S$ is semilocal, so that $S/\mathrm J(S)$, where $\mathrm J(S)$ is the Jacobson radical of $S$, is Von Neumann regular. These rings are usually called $J$-regular. We establish many results on $J$-regular rings in order to get substantial results on strongly local extensions when $S$ is $J$-regular. The Picard group of a $J$-regular ring is trivial, allowing to evaluate the group $\mathrm U(S)/\mathrm U(R)$ when $R$ is $J$-regular. We then are able to give a complete characterization of the Doering-Lequain context. A Section is devoted to examples. In particular, when $R$ is a field, the strongly local and weakly strongly inert properties are equivalent.

Abstract:Outside of the framework of geometric theories, we exhibit complete, respectively model-complete theories of rings whose corresponding theory of pairs is complete, respectively model-complete, using transfer results proven in the seventies for boolean products of structures. It includes certain boolean products of pairs of dp-minimal fields of characteristic $0$. We also show, as in the case of pairs of fields, how it fits in the framework of differential rings.

$r$-Minimal Codes with Respect to Rank Metric

Abstract:In this paper, we propose and study $r$-minimal codes, a natural extension of minimal codes which have been extensively studied with respect to Hamming metric, rank metric and sum-rank metric. We first propose $r$-minimal codes in a general setting where the ambient space is a finite dimensional left module over a division ring and is supported on a lattice. We characterize minimal subcodes and $r$-minimal codes, derive a general singleton bound, and give existence results for $r$-minimal codes by using combinatorial arguments. We then consider $r$-minimal rank metric codes over a field extension $\mathbb{E}/\mathbb{F}$ of degree $m$, where $\mathbb{E}$ can be infinite. We characterize these codes in terms of cutting $r$-blocking sets, generalized rank weights of the codes and those of the dual codes, and classify codes whose $r$-dimensional subcodes have constant rank support weight. Next, with the help of the evasiveness property of cutting $r$-blocking sets and some upper bounds for the dimensions of evasive subspaces, we derive several lower and upper bounds for the minimal length of $r$-minimal codes. Furthermore, when $\mathbb{E}$ is finite, we establish a general upper bound which generalizes and improves the counterpart for minimal codes in the literature. As a corollary, we show that if $m=3$, then for any $k\geqslant2$, the minimal length of $k$-dimensional minimal codes is equal to $2k$. To the best of our knowledge, when $m\geqslant3$, there was no known explicit formula for the minimal length of $k$-dimensional minimal codes for arbitrary $k$ in the literature.

Abstract:We show that, for a certain large class of power-bounded $o$-minimal $\mathcal{L}_T$-theories $T$ whose field of exponents is infinite-dimensional as a vector space over the rationals, any definable set in a $T$-convex valued field $(\mathcal{R}, \mathfrak{O})$ is in a precise sense the limit of a family of $\mathcal{L}_T$-definable sets indexed over the residue field. Alternatively, in the mainstream model-theoretic language, this says that if $(\mathcal{R}', \mathfrak{O}')$ is an elementary substructure of $(\mathcal{R}, \mathfrak{O})$ and if the residue field of $\mathfrak{O}$ contains an element that is infinitesimal relative to the residue field of $\mathfrak{O}'$ then any set $A \subseteq (\mathcal{R}')^m$ definable in $(\mathcal{R}', \mathfrak{O}')$ is the trace of a set definable in $\mathcal{R}$.

Abstract:Given an NQC log canonical generalized pair whose underlying variety X is not necessarily -factorial, we show that one may run a -MMP with scaling of an ample divisor which terminates, provided that has a minimal model in a weaker sense or that is not pseudo-effective. We also prove the existence of minimal models of pseudo-effective NQC log canonical generalized pairs under various additional assumptions, for instance when the boundary contains an ample divisor.

Abstract:For a Tychonoff space X , let be the -algebra of all bounded complex-valued continuous functions on X . In this paper, we mainly discuss Tychonoff one-point extensions of X arising from closed ideals of . We show that every closed ideal H of produces a Tychonoff one-point extension of X . Moreover, every Tychonoff one-point extension of X can be obtained in this way. As an application, we study the partially ordered set of all Tychonoff one-point extensions of X . It is shown that the minimal unitization of a non-vanishing closed ideal H of is isometrically -isomorphic with the -algebra . We provide a description for the Čech–Stone compactification of an arbitrary Tychonoff one-point extension of X as a quotient space of via a closed ideal of . Then, we establish a characterization of closed ideals of that have countable topological generators. Finally, an intrinsic characterization of the multiplier algebra of an arbitrary closed ideal of is given.
