Abstract:We consider a purely algebraic result. Then given a circle or cyclic group of prime order action on a manifold, we will use it to estimate the lower bound of the number of fixed points. We also give an obstruction to the existence of $\mathbb{Z}_p$ action on manifolds with isolated fixed points when $p$ is a prime.

Abstract:We want to discuss various applications of modular forms in topology. The starting point is elliptic genus and its generalizations. The main techniques are the Atiyah-Singer index theorem, the Atiyah-Bott-Segal-Singer Lefschetz fixed point formula, Kac-Moody Lie algebras, modular forms and theta-functions. Just as the representations theory of classical Lie groups has close connections with the Atiyah-Singer index formula as exposed in [A1], the representation theory of loop groups plays very important role in our study. One of the most important new features of loop group representations is the modular invariance of the Kac-Weyl character formula, which allows us to derive many interesting new results and to unify many important old results in topology. In this paper we will develope along this line. We hope that the other features of loop group representations, such as fusion rules and tensor category structure may also be applied to topology. See the discussions in §3. The contents of this paper is organized in the following way. In §1 we introduce elliptic genus by combining index theory and the representation theory of loop groups. The relation of the classical index theory with representation theory of classical Lie groups was discussed in [A1]. Here one finds that just replacing the classical Lie groups by their corresponding loop groups, we get the complete theory of elliptic genus, or more generally the index theory on loop space. Especially the Dirac operator and the Witten genus of loop space are derived more convincingly in this way. Then all of the other well-known properties of elliptic genus, such as functional equations, characterizations by rigidity and fibrations, can be easily obtained. Here we only pick some less well-known results to discuss, for example the expressions of the parameters in elliptic genera in terms of theta-functions. Different from the classical Lie group case, a new feature in our situation appears, the modular invariance which, by combining with index theory, is applied to obtain many new topological results. This is the content of §2. Most results in this section are special cases of more general results. For simplicity we only give the main ideas of the proofs. We make some geometric constructions in §3 to understand elliptic cohomology. The construction in §3.3 is motivated by the vertex operator algebra construction of the monstrous moonshine module. Abstract:Firstly, we generalize a semi-classical limit of open strings on D-branes in group manifolds. The limit gives rise to rigid open strings, whose dynamics can efficiently be described in terms of a matrix algebra. Alternatively, the dynamics is coded in group theory coefficients whose properties are translated in a diagrammatical language. In the case of compact groups, it is a simplified version of rational boundary conformal field theories, while for non-compact groups, the construction gives rise to new associative products. Secondly, we argue that the intuitive formalism that we provide for the semi-classical limit, extends to the case of quantum groups. The associative product we construct in this way is directly related to the boundary vertex operator algebra of open strings on symmetry preserving branes in WZW models, and generalizations thereof, e.g. to non-compact groups. We treat the groups SU(2) and SL(2,R) explicitly. We also discuss the precise relation of the semi-classical open string dynamics to Berezin quantization and to star product theory.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to introduce and study Lie algebras and Lie groups over noncommutative rings. For any Lie algebra $\gg$ sitting inside an associative algebra $A$ and any associative algebra $\FF$ we introduce and study the algebra $(\gg,A)(\FF)$, which is the Lie subalgebra of $\FF \otimes A$ generated by $\FF \otimes \gg$. In many examples $A$ is the universal enveloping algebra of $\gg$. Our description of the algebra $(\gg,A)(\FF)$ has a striking resemblance to the commutator expansions of $\FF$ used by M. Kapranov in his approach to noncommutative geometry. To each algebra $(\gg, A)(\FF)$ we associate a ``noncommutative algebraic'' group which naturally acts on $(\gg,A)(\FF)$ by conjugations and conclude the paper with some examples of such groups.

Writing finite simple groups of Lie type as products of subset conjugates

Abstract:The Liebeck-Nikolov-Shalev conjecture [LNS12] asserts that, for any finite simple non-abelian group $G$ and any set $A\subseteq G$ with $|A|\geq 2$, $G$ is the product of at most $N\frac{\log|G|}{\log|A|}$ conjugates of $A$, for some absolute constant $N$. For $G$ of Lie type, we prove that for any $\varepsilon>0$ there is some $N_{\varepsilon}$ for which $G$ is the product of at most $N_{\varepsilon}\left(\frac{\log|G|}{\log|A|}\right)^{1+\varepsilon}$ conjugates of either $A$ or $A^{-1}$. For symmetric sets, this improves on results of Liebeck, Nikolov, and Shalev [LNS12] and Gill, Pyber, Short, and Szabó [GPSS13]. During the preparation of this paper, the proof of the Liebeck-Nikolov-Shalev conjecture was completed by Lifshitz [Lif24]. Both papers use [GLPS24] as a starting point. Lifshitz's argument uses heavy machinery from representation theory to complete the conjecture, whereas this paper achieves a more modest result by rather elementary combinatorial arguments.

A Lazard correspondence for post-Lie rings and skew braces

Abstract:We develop a Lazard correspondence between post-Lie rings and skew braces that satisfy a natural completeness condition. This is done through a thorough study of how the Lazard correspondence behaves on semi-direct sums of Lie rings. In particular, for a prime $p$ and $k<p$, we obtain a correspondence between skew braces of order $p^k$ and left nilpotent post-Lie rings of order $p^k$ on a nilpotent Lie ring. This therefore extends results by Smoktunowicz.

Abstract:Abstract Groups play a fundamental role in Abstract Algebra: many algebraic structures, including rings, fields, and modules, can be seen as formed by adding new operations and axioms based on groups. Researchers often use group theory to explain many kinds of phenomena. In recent years, group theory has been introduced into crystallography to further explore the macroscopic symmetry of crystals from a mathematical point of view. In this paper, the applications of group theory in crystallography and magic cubic will be discussed. Basic definitions and models of these fields are demonstrated. A finite group is a group with a finite number of elements, which are the important contents of group theory. Besides, this paper proves that n−1 elements in a n order group can completely decide the n th element and gives a method of the n th element in a commutative group of order n. The analysis suggests that the research method of group theory has an important influence on other subjects.

Sublinear Bilipschitz Equivalence and the Quasiisometric Classification of Solvable Lie Groups

Abstract:We prove a product theorem for sublinear bilipschitz equivalences which generalizes the classical work of Kapovich, Kleiner and Leeb on quasiisometries between product spaces. Independently we develop a new tool, based on a theorem of Cornulier on sublinear bilipschitz equivalences between solvable Lie groups, to evaluate the distortion of certain subgroups in central extensions. This is useful to provide lower bounds on Dehn functions. Building on work of Cornulier and Tessera, we compute the Dehn functions of all simply connected solvable Lie groups of exponential growth up to dimension $5$. We employ our product theorem to distinguish up to quasiisometry certain families among these groups which share the same dimension, cone-dimension and Dehn function. Finally, using a theorem of Peng together with our computations of cone-dimensions and Dehn functions, we establish the quasiisometric rigidity of the rank-two, five-dimensional solvable Lie group acting simply transitively by isometries on the horosphere in general position inside the product of three real hyperbolic planes.

Abstract:We consider a problem whether a given Lie group can be realized as the group of all biholomorphic automorphisms of a bounded domain in ${\mathbb C}^n$. In an earlier paper of 1990, the authors proved the result for connected linear Lie groups. In this paper we give examples of non-linear groups for which the result still holds.

Abstract:This paper is centered around the classical problem of extracting properties of a finite group $G$ from the ring isomorphism class of its integral group ring $\mathbb{Z} G$. This problem is considered via describing the unit group $\mathcal{U}( \mathbb{Z} G)$ generically for a finite group. Since the $`90s$ several well known generic constructions of units are known to generate a subgroup of finite index in $\mathcal{U}(\mathbb{Z } G)$ if $\mathbb{Q} G$ does not have so-called exceptional simple epimorphic images, e.g. $M_2 (\mathbb{Q})$. However it remained a major open problem to find a {\it generic} construction under the presence of the latter type of simple images. In this article we obtain such generic construction of units. Moreover, this new construction also exhibits new properties, such as providing generically free subgroups of large rank. As an application we answer positively for several classes of groups recent conjectures on the rank and the periodic elements of the abelianisation $\mathcal{U}(\mathbb{Z} G)^{ab}$. To obtain all this, we investigate the group ring $R \Gamma$ of an extension $\Gamma$ of some normal subgroup $N$ by a group $G$, over a domain $R$. More precisely, we obtain a direct sum decomposition of the (twisted) group algebra of $\Gamma$ over the fraction field $F$ of $R$ in terms of various twisted group rings of $G$ over finite extensions of $F$. Furthermore, concrete information on the kernel and cokernel of the associated projections is obtained. Along the way we also launch the investigations of the unit group of twisted group rings and of $\mathcal{U}( R\Gamma)$ via twisted group rings.

Abstract:A Lie algebroid is a generalization of Lie algebra that provides a general framework to describe the symmetries of a manifold. In this paper, we introduce Lie algebroid index theory and study the Lie algebroid Dolbeault operator. We also introduce Connes' index theory on regular foliated manifolds to obtain a generalized Riemann-Roch theorem on manifolds with regular foliation. We show that the topological side of Connes' index theory can be identified with the topological side of Lie algebroid index theory. Finally, we introduce Lie algebroid Kodaira vanishing theorem, and provide some applications and examples. The Lie algebroid Kodaira vanishing theorem can be used on the analytic side of Connes' theorem to attest to the criterion of a positive line bundle from its topological information.

Abstract:Let G be a reductive algebraic group over a field of prime characteristic. One can associate to G (or subgroups thereof) its Lie algebra, its Frobenius kernels, and the finite Chevalley group of points over a finite field. The representation theories of these structures are highly interconnected. This expository article will focus specifically on the cohomology theories of these structures and the relationships between them with the aim of highlighting a few key developments over the past 20 years and related open questions.

Abstract:Journal of Algebra and Its Applications, Ahead of Print. In this paper, we establish fundamental results concerning non-abelian extensions of Lie rings. Specifically, we demonstrate one-to-one correspondence between the equivalence classes of non-abelian extensions of Lie ring [math] by Lie ring [math] and the elements of second cohomology group [math], where [math] acts on [math]. Additionally, we provide necessary and sufficient condition under which such extensions exist, particularly when a specific abstract kernel is involved.

Abstract:We develop the theory of algebraic groups over real closed fields and apply the results to construct a geometric object $\mathcal{B}$ and to prove that $\mathcal{B}$ is an affine $\Lambda$-building. We use a model theoretic transfer principle to prove generalizations of statements about semisimple Lie groups. In this direction we give proofs for the Iwasawa-decomposition $KAU$, the Cartan-decomposition $KAK$ and the Bruhat-decomposition $BWB$. For unipotent subgroups we prove the Baker-Campbell-Hausdorff formula and use it to analyse root groups. We give a proof of the Jacobson-Morozov Lemma about subgroups whose Lie algebra is isomorphic to $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ and we describe other rank 1 subgroups which are the semisimple parts of Levi-subgroups. We prove a semialgebraic version of Kostant's convexity. Over the reals, semisimple Lie groups are closely related to the symmetry groups of symmetric spaces of non-compact type. These symmetric spaces can be described semialgebraically, which allows us to consider their semialgebraic extension over any real closed field. Starting from these non-standard symmetric spaces we use a valuation (with image some non-discrete ordered abelian group $\Lambda$) on the fields to define a $\Lambda$-pseudometric. Identifying points of distance zero results in a $\Lambda$-metric space $\mathcal{B}$. Assuming that the root system of the associated Lie group is reduced, we prove that $\mathcal{B}$ is an affine $\Lambda$-building. The proof relies on a thorough analysis of stabilizers.

Abstract:In the present paper, a class of partial differential equations related to various plate and rod problems is studied by Lie transformation group methods. A system of equations determining the generators of the admitted point Lie groups (symmetries) is derived. A general statement of the associated group-classification problem is given. A simple intrinsic relation is deduced allowing to recognize easily the variational symmetries among the ''ordinary'' symmetries of a self-adjoint equation of the class examined. Explicit formulae for the conserved currents of the corresponding (via Noether's theorem) conservation laws are suggested. Solutions of group-classification problems are presented for subclasses of equations of the foregoing type governing stability and vibration of plates, rods and fluid conveying pipes resting on variable elastic foundations and compressed by axial forces. The obtained group-classification results are used to derive conservation laws and group-invariant solutions readily applicable in plate statics or rod dynamics.
An extension of Steinberg's Theorem to biquotient pairs of subgroups

Abstract:We study the derived tensor product of the representation rings of subgroups of a given compact Lie group G. That is, given two such subgroups H_1 and H_2, we study the tensor product of the associated representation rings R(H_1) and R(H_2) over the representation ring RG, and prove a vanishing result for the associated higher Tor-groups. This result can be viewed as a natural generalization of the Theorem of Steinberg that asserts that the representation rings of maximal rank subgroups of G are free over RG. It my also be viewed as an analogue of a result of Singhof on the cohomology of classifying spaces. We include an immediate application to the complex K-theory of biquotient manifolds.

Abstract:The aim of this article is to obtain variations on the classical theorems of Schur and Baer on finiteness of commutator subgroups, valid in the contexts of Lie algebras and Leibniz algebras over a field. Using non-abelian tensor products and exterior products, we prove Schur's Theorem for finitely generated Leibniz algebras, both Schur's Theorem and Baer's Theorem for finitely generated Lie algebras, and a version of these theorems for finitely presented Lie algebras.

Abstract:We examine subgroups of locally compact groups that are continuous homomorphic images of connected Lie groups and we give a criterion for being such an image. We also provide a new characterisation of Lie groups and a characterisation of groups that are images of connected locally compact groups.

Abstract:Liebeck, Nikolov, and Shalev conjectured the existence of an absolute constant $C>0$, such that for every subset $A$ of a finite simple group $G$ with $|A|\ge 2$, there exists $C\log|G|/\log|A|$ conjugates of $A$ whose product is $G$. This paper is a companion to \cite{GLPS}, and together they prove the conjecture. To prove the conjecture, we establish the following skew-product theorem. We show that there exists $ c > 0 $ such that for all $ \epsilon > 0 $ and subsets $ A, B \subseteq G $ of finite simple groups of Lie type, if $ |B| < |G|^{1 - \epsilon} $, then $ |A^{\sigma} B| > |B||A|^{c \epsilon} $ for some $ \sigma \in G $. This result, along with its more involved analogue for alternating groups, constitutes the main contribution of this paper. Our proof leverages deep results from character theory alongside the probabilistic method.
