Abstract:A representation theory for Bol algebras is proposed. For a suitable (2,3)-cohomology theory for Bol algebras, we define a (2,3)-coboundary with companion and next we define a (2,3)-cohomology group. Deformations of Bol algebras are investigated. In particular, one-parameter infinitesimal deformations of Bol algebras are characterized in terms of Bol algebras of deformation type and (2,3)-cocycles with coefficients in the adjoint representation. The (2,3)-cohomology group is also applied to study abelian extensions of Bol algebras.

Special unipotent representations of real classical groups: counting and reduction

Abstract: Let $G$ be a real reductive group in Harish-Chandra's class. We derive some consequences of theory of coherent continuation representations to the counting of irreducible representations of $G$ with a given infinitesimal character and a given bound of the complex associated variety. When $G$ is a real classical group (including the real metaplectic group), we investigate the set of special unipotent representations of $G$ attached to $\check{\mathcal O}$, in the sense of Arthur and Barbasch-Vogan. Here $\check{\mathcal O}$ is a nilpotent adjoint orbit in the Langlands dual of $G$ (or the metaplectic dual of $G$ when $G$ is a real metaplectic group). We give a precise count for the number of special unipotent representations of $G$ attached to $\check{ \mathcal O}$. We also reduce the problem of constructing special unipotent representations attached to $\check{\mathcal O}$ to the case when $\check{\mathcal O}$ is analytically even (equivalently for a real classical group, has good parity in the sense of M{\oe}glin). The paper is the first in a series of two papers on the classification of special unipotent representations of real classical groups.

Abstract:Let G be one of the classical groups GL(n), U(n), O(n) or Sp(2n), over a nonarchimedean local field of characteristic zero. It is well known that the contragredient of an irreducible admissible smooth representation of G is isomorphic to a twist of it by an automorphism of G. We prove that similar results hold for double covers of G that occur in the study of local theta correspondences.

Abstract:We discover a new connection between Koszul theory and representation theory. Let $\La$ be a quadratic algebra defined by a locally finite quiver with relations. Firstly, we give a combinatorial description of the local Koszul complexes and the quadratic dual $\La^!$, which enables us to describe the linear projective resolutions and the colinear injective coresolutions of graded simple $\La$-modules in terms of $\La^!$. As applications, we obtain a new class of Koszul algebras and a stronger version of the Extension Conjecture for finite dimensional Koszul algebras with a noetherian Koszul dual. Then we construct two Koszul functors, which induce a $2$-real-parameter family of pairs of derived Koszul functors between categories derived from graded $\La$-modules and those derived from graded $\La^!$-modules. In case $\La$ is Koszul, each pair of derived Koszul functors are mutually quasi-inverse, one of the pairs is Beilinson, Ginzburg and Soergel's Koszul duality. If $\La$ and $\La^!$ are locally bounded on opposite sides, then the Koszul functors induce two equivalences of bounded derived categories: one for finitely piece-supported graded modules, and one for finite dimensional graded modules. And if $\La$ and $\La^!$ are both locally bounded, then the bounded derived category of finite dimensional graded $\La$-modules has almost split triangles with the Auslander-Reiten translations and the Serre functors given by composites of derived Koszul functors.

Abstract:For a subgroup $H$ of a reductive group $G$, let $\mathfrak m\subset \mathfrak g^*$ be the cotangent space of $eH\in G/H$. The linear action $(H:\mathfrak m)$ is the coisotropy representation. It is known that the complexity and rank of $G/H$ (denoted $c$ and $r$, respectively) are encoded in properties of $(H:\mathfrak m)$. We complement existing results on $c$, $r$, and $(H:\mathfrak m)$, especially for quasiaffine varieties $G/H$. If the algebra of invariants $k[\mathfrak m]^H$ is finitely generated, then we establish a connection between the nullcones in $\mathfrak m$ and $\mathfrak g^*$. Two other topics considered are (i) a relationship between varieties $G/H$ of complexity at most 1 and the homological dimension of the algebra of invariants $k[\mathfrak m]^H$ and (ii) the Poisson structure of $k[\mathfrak m]^H$ and Poisson-commutative subalgebras in $k[\mathfrak m]^H$ with maximal transcendence degree.

Abstract:Let $\rho$ be a two-dimensional even Galois representation which is induced from a character $\chi$ of odd order of the absolute Galois group of a real quadratic field. After imposing some additional conditions on $\chi$, we attach $\rho$ to a Hecke eigenclass in the cohomology of ${\rm GL}(2,\mathbb Z)$ with coefficients in a certain infinite-dimensional vector space over a field of characteristic not equal to 2.

Koszul duality and a conjecture of Francis-Gaitsgory

Abstract:Koszul duality is a fundamental correspondence between algebras for an operad $\mathcal{O}$ and coalgebras for its dual cooperad $B\mathcal{O}$, built from $\mathcal{O}$ using the bar construction. Francis-Gaitsgory proposed a conjecture about the general behavior of this duality. The main result of this paper, roughly speaking, is that Koszul duality provides an equivalence between the subcategories of nilcomplete algebras and conilcomplete coalgebras and that these are the largest possible subcategories for which such a result holds. This disproves Francis-Gaitsgory's prediction, but does provide an adequate replacement. We show that many previously known partial results about Koszul duality can be deduced from our results.

Abstract:We adapt techniques used in the study of the cubic Dirac operator on homogeneous reductive spaces to the Dolbeault operator on elliptic coadjoint orbits to prove that cohomologically induced representations have an infinitesimal character, that cohomological induction and Zuckerman translation functor commute and give a geometric interpretation of the Zuchkerman translation functor in this context.

Abstract:We explain how the generalized Milnor-Wood inequality for reductive representations of a cocompact complex-hyperbolic lattice into a Hermitian Lie group translates, under the non-abelian Hodge correspondence, into various kinds of Milnor-Wood inequalities for Higgs bundles. This clarifies the relation between the representation theoretic generalized Milnor-Wood inequality and the various different versions of Milnor-Wood inequalities for Higgs bundles that are known in the literature.
On the representation theory of the symmetry group of the Cantor set

Abstract:In previous work with Harman, we introduced a new class of representations for an oligomorphic group $G$, depending on an auxiliary piece of data called a measure. In this paper, we look at this theory when $G$ is the symmetry group of the Cantor set. We show that $G$ admits exactly two measures $\mu$ and $\nu$. The representation theory of $(G, \mu)$ is the linearization of the category of $\mathbf{F}_2$-vector spaces, studied in recent work of the author and closely connected to work of Kuhn and Kovács. The representation theory of $(G, \nu)$ is the linearization of the category of vector spaces over the Boolean semi-ring (or, equivalently, the correspondence category), studied by Bouc--Thévenaz. The latter case yields an important counterexample in the general theory.

Abstract:We prove a general local rigidity theorem for pull-backs of homogeneous forms on reductive symmetric spaces under representations of discrete groups. One application of the theorem is that the volume of a closed manifold locally modelled on a reductive homogeneous space G / H is constant under deformation of the G / H -structure. The proof elaborates on an argument given by Labourie for closed anti-de Sitter 3-manifolds. The core of the work is a reinterpretation of old results of Cartan, Chevalley and Borel, showing that the algebra of G -invariant forms on G / H is generated by "Chern–Weil forms" and "Chern–Simons forms".

Abstract:In this paper, we fully characterize maximal representations of a C*-correspondence. This strengthens several earlier results. We demonstrate the criterion with diverse examples. We also describe the noncommutative Choquet boundary and provide additional counterexamples to Arveson's hyperrigidity conjecture following the counterexample recently found by the author and Adam Dor-On.

Abstract:It is known that every hereditary property can be characterized by finitely many minimal obstructions when restricted to either the class of cographs or the class of -reducible graphs. In this work, we prove that the same is true when restricted to some other superclasses of cographs, including -sparse and -extendible graphs (both of which extend -reducible graphs). We also present complete lists of -sparse and -extendible minimal obstructions for polarity, monopolarity, unipolarity, and ( s , 1)-polarity, where s is a positive integer. In parallel to the case of -reducible graphs, all the -sparse minimal obstructions for these hereditary properties are cographs.

Abstract:This is the second one of the serial papers studying representations over diagrams of abelian categories. We show that under certain conditions a compatible family of abelian model categories indexed by a small category can amalgamate to an abelian model structure on the category of representations. Our strategy to realize this goal is to consider classes of morphisms rather than cotorsion pairs of objects. Moreover, we give an explicit description of cofibrant objects in this abelian model category. As applications, we construct Gorenstein injective and Gorenstein flat model structures on the category of presheaves of modules for a few special index categories, and give characterizations of Gorenstein homological objects in this category.

Abstract:We classify globally irreducible representations of alternating groups and double covers of symmetric and alternating groups. In order to achieve this classification we also completely characterise irreducible representations of such groups which reduce almost homogeneously in every characteristic. This also allows us to classify irreducible representations that remain irreducible in every characteristic as well as irreducible representations of these groups that can appear as composition factors of globally irreducible representations of groups containing $\mathfrak{A}_n$ or $\hat{\mathfrak{A}}_n$ as normal subgroups. In particular we show that, apart from finitely many exceptions, for any of these questions such representations are either $1$-dimensional or basic spin representations.
