Abstract:We use the Bernstein method to provide logarithmic gradient estimates and universal boundedness estimates for semilinear elliptic equations that satisfy the subcritical index condition. Our estimates are applicable to equations on Riemannian manifolds with (Bakry-Émery) Ricci curvature that is bounded below, and they are original for many concrete equations, even on Euclidean spaces that have been carefully investigated by numerous experts. Under the (Bakry-Émery) Ricci curvature bounded below condition, we establish relations among basic estimates, such as the universal boundedness estimate, logarithmic gradient estimate, and Harnack inequality. Under the (Bakry-Émery) Ricci curvature non-negative condition and certain mild assumptions, these estimates are $\kappa$-equivalent for any $\kappa>1$. As an application, we obtain optimal pointwise estimates and Liouville theorems for specific equations on Euclidean spaces.

Abstract:In this paper we consider the gradient estimates on positive solutions to the following elliptic (Lichnerowicz) equation defined on a complete Riemannian manifold $(M,\,g)$: $$\Delta v + \mu v + a v^{p+1} +b v^{-q+1} =0,$$ where $p\geq-1$, $q\geq1$, $\mu$, $a$ and $b$ are real constants. In the case $\mu\geq0$ and $b\geq0$ or $\mu<0$ , $a>0$ and $b>0$ ($\mu$ has a lower bound), we employ the Nash-Moser iteration technique to obtain some refined gradient estimates of the solutions to the above equation, if $(M,\,g)$ satisfies $Ric \geq -(n-1)\kappa$ , where $n\geq3$ is the dimension of $M$ and $\kappa$ is a nonnegative constant, and $\mu$ , $a$ , $b$ , $p$ and $q$ satisfy some technique conditions. By the obtained gradient estimates we also derive some Liouville type theorems for the above equation under some suitable geometric and analysis conditions. As applications, we can derive some Cheng-Yau's type gradient estimates for solutions to the $n$-dimensional Einstein-scalar field Lichnerowicz equation where $n\geq3$.

Abstract:Let ( M n , g ) be an n -dimensional complete Riemannian manifold. We consider gradient estimates for the positive solutions to the following nonlinear parabolic equation: u_t=Δ u+aulog u+bu on M n × [0, T ], where a , b are two real constants. We derive local gradient estimates of the Li-Yau type for positive solutions of the above equations on Riemannian manifolds with Ricci curvature bounded from below. As applications, several parabolic Harnack inequalities are obtained. In particular, our results extend the ones of Davies in Heat Kernels and Spectral Theory, Cambridge Tracts in Mathematics, vol 92, Cambridge University Press, Cambridge,1989, and Li and Xu in Adv Math 226:4456–4491 ( 2011 ).

Abstract:In this paper we generalize gradient estimates in Lp space to Orlicz space for weak solutions of elliptic equations of p-Laplacian type with small BMO coefficients in δ-Reifenberg flat domains. Our results improve the known results for such equations using a harmonic analysis-free technique.

Abstract:This article presents new local and global gradient estimates of Li-Yau type for positive solutions to a class of nonlinear elliptic equations on smooth metric measure spaces involving the Witten Laplacian. The estimates are derived under natural lower bounds on the associated Bakry-Émery Ricci curvature tensor and find utility in proving general Harnack inequalities and Liouville-type theorems to mention a few. The results here unify, extend and improve various existing results in the literature for special nonlinearities already of huge interest and applications. Some important consequences are presented and discussed.

Abstract:In this paper we obtain a new global gradient estimates in weighted Lorentz spaces for weak solutions of p(x)-Laplacian type equation with small BMO coefficients in a δ-Reifenberg flat domain. The modified Vitali covering lemma, the maximal function technique and the appropriate localization method are the main analytical tools. Our results improve the known results for such equations.

When $\lambda$ is large enough, we prove the existence and multiplicity of positive solutions to the equation.

Abstract:In this paper, we provide a new routine to employ the Nash-Moser iteration technique to analyze the local and global properties of positive solutions to the equation $$\Delta_pv + a|\nabla v|^qv^r =0$$ on a complete Riemannian manifold with Ricci curvature bounded from below, where $p>1$, $q$, $r$ and $a$ are some real constants. Assuming certain conditions on $a,\, p,\, q$ and $r$, we can derive universal and succinct Cheng-Yau type logarithmic gradient estimates for such solutions. In particular, we give the obvious expressions of constants in the logarithmic gradient estimate for entire solutions to the above equation (see \thmref{t10}). The gradient estimates enable us to obtain some Liouville-type theorems, Harnack inequalities and some local estimates near singularities for positive solutions. Some of our results are new even in the case the domain is an Euclidean space and $p=2$.

Abstract:This article is devoted to a global Calderón-Zygmund estimate in the framework of Lorentz spaces for the m -order gradients of weak solution to a higher-order elliptic equation with p -growth. We prove the main result based on a proper power decay estimation of the upper-level set by the principle of layer cake representation for the L γ , q -estimate of D m u , while the coefficient satisfies a small BMO semi-norm and the boundary of underlying domain is flat in the sense of Reifenberg. In particular, a tricky ingredient is to establish the normal component of higher derivatives controlled by the horizontal component of higher derivatives of solutions in the neighborhood at any boundary point, which is achieved by comparing the solution under consideration with that for some reference problems.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider gradient estimates for the positive solutions to the following nonlinear parabolic equation: u_t=Δ _V u + au log u on M × [0, T] , where a is a real constant. We obtain the Li-Yau type bounds of the above equation, which cover the estimates in Davies (Heat kernels and spectral theory 1989 ), Huang et al. (Ann Glob Anal Geom 43:209–232, 2013 ), Li and Xu (Adv Math 226:4456–4491, 2011 ) and Qian (J Math Anal Appl 409:556–566, 2014 ). Besides, as a corollary, we give a gradient estimate for the corresponding elliptic case: Δ _V u + au log u = 0, which improves the estimates in Chen and Chen (Ann Glob Anal Geom 35:397–404, 2009 ) and Yang ( Proc AMS 136(11):4095–4102, 2008 ).

Abstract:In this work we establish a gradient bound and Liouville-type theorems for solutions to Quasi-linear elliptic equations on compact Riemannian Manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature. Also, we provide a local splitting theorem when the inequality in the gradient bound becomes equality at some point. Moreover, we prove a Harnack-type inequality and an ABP estimate for the gradient of solutions in domains contained in the manifold.

Abstract:In this paper we consider the gradient estimates on positive solutions to the following elliptic equation defined on a complete Riemannian manifold $(M,\,g)$: $$\Delta v+v^r-v^s= 0,$$ where $r$ and $s$ are two real constants. When$(M,\,g)$ satisfies $Ric \geq -(n-1)\kappa$ (where $n\geq2$ is the dimension of $M$ and $\kappa$ is a nonnegative constant), we employ the Nash-Moser iteration technique to derive a Cheng-Yau's type gradient estimate for positive solution to the above equation under some suitable geometric and analysis conditions. Moreover, it is shown that when the Ricci curvature of $M$ is nonnegative, this elliptic equation does not admit any positive solution except for $u\equiv 1$ if $r<s$ and $$1<r<\frac{n+3}{n-1}\quad\quad ~~\mbox{or}~~\quad 1<s<\frac{n+3}{n-1}.$$

Abstract:In this article we present new gradient estimates for positive solutions to a class of nonlinear elliptic equations involving the f-Laplacian on a smooth metric measure space. The gradient estimates of interest are of Souplet-Zhang and Hamilton types respectively and are established under natural lower bounds on the generalised Bakry-Émery Ricci curvature tensor. From these estimates we derive amongst other things Harnack inequalities and general global constancy and Liouville-type theorems. The results and approach undertaken here provide a unified treatment and extend and improve various existing results in the literature. Some implications and applications are presented and discussed.

We derive local gradient estimates of the Li–Yau type for positive solutions of porous medium equations on Riemannian manifolds with Ricci curvature bounded from below. As applications, several parabolic Harnack inequalities are obtained. In particular, our results improve the ones of Lu, Ni, Vázquez, and Villani (in J. Math. Pures Appl. 91:1–19, 2009). Moreover, our results recover the ones of Davies (in Cambridge Tracts Math vol. 92, 1989), Hamilton (in Comm. Anal. Geom. 1:113–125, 1993) and Li and Xu (in Adv. Math. 226:4456–4491, 2011).

Abstract:Let $(M,J,\theta)$ be a complete pseudo-Hermitian manifold which satisfies the CR sub-Laplacian comparison property. In this paper, we derive the local subgradient estimates for positive solutions to the following nonlinear subparabolic equation: \begin{equation*} u_t=\Delta_\mathrm{b}u+au\log u+bu, \end{equation*} on $M\times [0,+\infty)$, where $a,b\in \mathbb{R}$. As a application, we derive a priori estimate and a Harnack inequality for positive solutions to the subelliptic equation $\Delta_\mathrm{b}u+au\log u=0$.
