Abstract:In this paper, we study the existence of various harmonic maps from Hermitian manifolds to Kaehler, Hermitian and Riemannian manifolds respectively. By using refined Bochner formulas on Hermitian (possibly non-Kaehler) manifolds, we derive new rigidity results on Hermitian harmonic maps from compact Hermitian manifolds to Riemannian manifolds, and we also obtain the complex analyticity of pluri-harmonic maps from compact complex manifolds to compact Kaehler manifolds (and Riemannian manifolds) with non-degenerate curvatures, which are analogous to several fundamental results in [28,Siu], [14,Jost-Yau] and [26, Sampson].

Abstract:In this paper, we study global properties of continuous plurisubharmonic functions on complete noncompact Kähler manifolds with nonnegative bisectional curvature and their applications to the structure of such manifolds. We prove that continuous plurisubharmonic functions with reasonable growth rate on such manifolds can be approximated by smooth plurisubharmonic functions through the heat flow deformation. Optimal Liouville type theorem for the plurisubharmonic functions as well as a splitting theorem in terms of harmonic functions and holomorphic functions are established. The results are then applied to prove several structure theorems on complete noncompact Kähler manifolds with nonnegative bisectional or sectional curvature.

Abstract:We give four constructions of non-$\partial\bar\partial$ (hence non-Kähler) manifolds: (1) A simply connected page-$1$-$\partial\bar\partial$-manifold (2) A simply connected $dd^c+3$-manifold (3) For any $r\geq 2$, a simply connected compact manifold with nonzero differential on the $r$-th page of the Frölicher spectral sequence. (4) For any $r\geq 2$, a pluriclosed nilmanifold with nonzero differential on the $r$-th page of the Frölicher spectral sequence. The latter disproves a conjecture by Popovici. A main ingredient in the first three constructions is a simple resolution construction of certain quotient singularities with control on the cohomology.

Abstract:We construct the tangential k-Cauchy–Fueter complexes on the right quaternionic Heisenberg group, as the quaternionic counterpart of $$\overline{\partial }_b$$-complex on the Heisenberg group in the theory of several complex variables. We can use the $$L^2$$ estimate to solve the nonhomogeneous tangential k-Cauchy–Fueter equation under the compatibility condition over this group modulo a lattice. This solution has an important vanishing property when the group is higher dimensional. It allows us to prove the Hartogs’ extension phenomenon for k-CF functions, which are the quaternionic counterpart of CR functions.

Abstract:This is the first of two articles in which we provide detailed and self-contained account of the construction of a system of Kuranishi structures on the moduli spaces of pseudo holomorphic disks, using the exponential decay estimate given in [FOOO7]. This article completes the construction of a Kuranishi structure of a single moduli space. This article is an improved version of [FOOO4, Part 4] and its mathematical content is taken from our earlier writing [FOn,FOOO2,FOOO4,FOOO7]. The version 2 contains a correction of typological errors in the statement of Lemma 10.11 and the statement of Proposition 10.4. The proof of them are not changed. (Note these places were written in the same way as version 1 in the version published in Surveys in Differential Geometry.)

Constructions of symplectic forms on 4-manifolds

Abstract:Given a symplectic 4-manifold $(X,\omega)$ with rational symplectic form, Auroux constructed branched coverings to $(CP^2,\omega_{FS})$. By modifying a previous construction of Lambert-Cole--Meier--Starkston, we prove that the branch locus in $CP^2$ can be assumed holomorphic in a neighborhood of the spine of the standard trisection of $CP^2$. Consequently, the symplectic 4-manifold $(X,\omega)$ admits a cohomologous symplectic form that is Kähler in a neighborhood of the 2-skeleton of $X$. We define the Picard group of holomorphic line bundles over the holomorphic 2-skeleton. We then investigate Hodge theory and apply harmonic spinors to construct holomorphic sections over the Kähler subset.

Abstract:We extend some results on piecewise linear functions on $\C^n$ to piecewise pluriharmonic functions on any complex manifold. We construct a ring generated by currents $h$ and $dd^ch$, where $\{h\}$ is a finite set of piecewise pluriharmonic functions. We prove that, with some restrictions on the set $\{h\}$, the map $\{h\mapsto dd^ch,\ dd^ch\mapsto0\}$ can be continued to the derivation on the ring. As a corollary, the current $dd^cg_1\wedge...\wedge dd^cg_k$ depends on the product of piecewise pluriharmonic functions $g_1,...,g_k$ only.

Quaternionic projective invariance of the k-Cauchy-Fueter complex and applications I

Abstract:The k-Cauchy-Fueter complex in quaternionic analysis is the counterpart of the Dolbeault complex in complex analysis. In this paper, we find the explicit transformation formula of these complexes under SL(n+1,ℍ), which acts on ℍ^ n as quaternionic fractional linear transformations. These transformation formulae have several interesting applications to k-regular functions, the quaternionic counterpart of holomorphic functions, and geometry of domains. They allow us to construct the k-Cauchy-Fueter complex over locally projective flat manifolds explicitly and introduce various notions of pluripotential theory on this kind of manifolds. We also introduce a quaternionic projectively invariant operator from the quaternionic Monge-Ampère operator, which can be used to find projectively invariant defining density of a domain, generalizing Fefferman's construction in complex analysis.
The twistor space of a compact hypercomplex manifold is never Moishezon

Abstract:Let (X,I,J,K) be a compact hypercomplex manifold, i.e. a smooth manifold X with an action of the quaternion algebra (Id,I,J,K) on the tangent bundle TX, inducing integrable almost complex structures. For any $(a, b, c) \in S^2$, the linear combination $L := aI + bJ + cK$ defines another complex structure on X. This results in a $C P^1$-family of complex structures called the twistor family. Its total space is called the twistor space. We show that the twistor space of a compact hypercomplex manifold is never Moishezon and, moreover, it is never Fujiki class C (in particular, never Kahler and never projective).

Abstract:We show that the kernel of the Rumin Laplacian agrees with that of the Hodge-de Rham Laplacian on compact Sasakian manifolds. As a corollary, we obtain another proof of primitiveness of harmonic forms. Moreover, the space of harmonic forms coincides with the sub-Riemann limit of Hodge-de Rham Laplacian when its limit converges. Finally, we express the analytic torsion function associated with the Rumin complex in terms of the Reeb vector field.

Abstract:In a recent preprint published on arXiv (see <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2308.02993v2" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2308.02993v2">arXiv:2308.02993v2</a>, referred here as \cite{NXH}), N.X. Hong stated that every plurifinely open set $U\subset \mathbb{C}^n$, $n\geq 1$, is of the form $U=\bigcup \{\varphi_j>-1\}$, where each $\phi_j$ is a negative plurisubharmonic function defined on an open ball $B_j\subset \mathbb{C}^n$ and used this result to prove an equality result on complex Monge-Ampère measures. Unfortunately, this result is wrong as we will see below.

Abstract:A long-standing conjecture in complex geometry says that a compact Hermitian manifold with constant holomorphic sectional curvature must be Kähler when the constant is non-zero and must be Chern flat when the constant is zero. The conjecture is known in complex dimension 2 by the work of Balas-Gauduchon in 1985 (when the constant is zero or negative) and by Apostolov—Davidov—Muskarov in 1996 (when the constant is positive). For higher dimensions, the conjecture is still largely unknown. In this article, we restrict ourselves to pluriclosed manifolds, and confirm the conjecture for the special case of Strominger Kähler-like manifolds, namely, for Hermitian manifolds whose Strominger connection (also known as Bismut connection) obeys all the Kähler symmetries.
On the Ohsawa-Takegoshi $L^2$ extension theorem and removable singularities of plurisubharmonic functions

Abstract:The celebrated Ohsawa--Takegoshi extension theorem for $L^2$ holomorphic functions on bounded pseudoconvex domains in $\mathbb C^n$ is a fundamental result in several complex variables and complex geometry. Ohsawa conjectured in 1995 that the same theorem still holds for more general bounded complete Kähler domains in $\mathbb C^n$. Recently, Chen--Wu--Wang confirmed this conjecture in a special case. In this paper we extend their result to the case of holomorphic sections of twisted canonical bundles over relatively compact complete Kähler domains in Stein manifolds. As an application we prove a Hartogs type extension theorem for plurisubharmonic functions across a compact complete pluripolar set, which is complementary to a classical result of Shiffman and can be seen as an analogue of the Skoda--El Mir extension theorem for plurisubharmonic functions -- a result that has been vacant since at least 1985.

Abstract:The n-dimensional complex hyperquadric is a compact complex algebraic hypersurface defined by the quadratic equation in the (n+1)-dimensional complex projective space, which is isometric to the real Grassmannmanifold of oriented 2-planes and is a compact Hermitian symmetric space of rank 2. In this paper, we study geometry of compact Lagrangian submanifolds in complex hyperquadrics from the viewpoint of the theory of isoparametric hypersurfaces in spheres. From this viewpoint we provide a classification theorem of compact homogeneous Lagrangian submanifolds in complex hyperquadrics by using the moment map technique. Moreover we determine the Hamiltonian stability of compact minimal Lagrangian submanifolds embedded in complex hyperquadrics which are obtained as Gauss images of isoparametric hypersurfaces in spheres with g(= 1, 2, 3) distinct principal curvatures.

Abstract:We give a modified, very natural definition for the complex Monge–Ampère operator for an ω‐plurisubharmonic (psh) function φ with analytic singularities on a Kähler manifold (X,ω) of dimension n which has the property ∫X(ω+ddcφ)n=∫Xωn if X is compact. This means that, unlike in the previous definition, no mass is lost here. In fact, the definition works for any smooth (1,1)‐form ω (we need neither closedness nor positivity) and quasi‐psh φ with analytic singularities.
