Abstract:A solid professional knowledge and a strict scientific attitude are the basic guarantee for scientific research.Nowadays,many problems appear in research papers of geotechnical engineering,which affect the paper quality and lead to unreliable results.This phenomenon has great influence.It not only wasted research resources but also led up to a false,impetuous research culture.The author analyzed widespread problems from the aspects of theoretical research,experimental research and numerical analysis,and verified them by examples,which provided full understanding about these problems to students and supervisors.Furthermore,supervisors need to be stricter in instructions to improve the quality of the graduate papers.

Abstract:During the last decades, geodesy was influenced by two essential scenarios: First, the technological progress has completely changed the observational and measurement techniques. Modern high-speed computers and satellite-based techniques were more and more entering. Second, there was a growing public concern about the future of our planet, i.e., the change of its climate, the obligations of its environment, and about an expected shortage of its natural resources.Simultaneously, all these aspects implied and imply the strong need of adequate mathematical structures, tools, and methods, i.e., geomathematics.This contribution deals with today’s methodological components of the circuit mathematical geodesy characterizing the interrelations between geodesy and geomathematics with respect to origin and foundation, constituting ingredients, scientific role as well as perspective potential.This introductory contribution represents a collection of known ideas and concepts from different sources in geodetic and geomathematical literature, however, in a new consistent setup and innovatively structured form.

Abstract:Electronic Geometry Textbook is a knowledge management system that manages geometric textbook knowledge to enable users to construct and share dynamic geometry textbooks interactively and efficiently. Based on a knowledge base organizing and storing the knowledge represented in specific languages, the system implements interfaces for maintaining the data representing that knowledge as well as relations among those data, for automatically generating readable documents for viewing or printing, and for automatically discovering the relations among knowledge data. An interface has been developed for users to create geometry textbooks with automatic checking, in real time, of the consistency of the structure of each resulting textbook. By integrating an external geometric theorem prover and an external dynamic geometry software package, the system offers the facilities for automatically proving theorems and generating dynamic figures in the created textbooks. This paper provides a comprehensive account of the current version of Electronic Geometry Textbook.

Abstract:The literature on error treatment techniques in education is abundant; still, the linkage between what is theoretical and what is practical can be very contentious. For this same reason, teachers are faced with the challenge of implementing consistent approaches of error treatment. Another focal point in this study is the divide between natural sciences and social sciences. In many cases, teachers of natural sciences cannot relate to the affordances of the social sciences to reshape and foster their pedagogical practices. This paper is intended to investigate error treatment practices amongst physics teachers in Morocco beyond and above what is stated in official guidelines. In particular, the current study was carried out with a total number of 120 high school teachers in Morocco during the academic year 2021-2022. The questionnaire method was used for the collection of numeric data while the interview method was used for probing the attitudes of the respondents towards the phenomenon under investigation. The legitimacy of the data was validated by means of multiple numeric estimations. The outputs from data analysis revealed a pressing need for teacher continuing professional development, being a prerequisite for fostering physics teachers’ pedagogical skills. Abstract:The textbook contains the problems in mechanics and special relativity for physics departments of universities. Many original problems were proposed by active scientists from the institutes of the Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Science, while teaching at the Novosibirsk State University. The problems have been used in seminars, students' homework and in the written examinations at Novosibirsk State University. They are arranged according to the program of the introductory mechanics course, adopted at Novosibirsk State University. This part contains only problems. Answers and solutions of some problems can be also provided in a separate submission in future, if there would be enough interest in them. Previous versions of the textbook were published several times in the past. This submission is based only on the author's original materials and does not use any copyrighted files from the publishers.

Modern achievements of geodesic science and industry

Abstract:Purpose of this work is to determine and justify the use of analytical and numerical geodetic and cartometric methods on the reference ellipsoid, as well as their calculation accuracy in the geographic information environment. Methodology. The research compiled a register of geodetic and cartometric methods used in geodetic practice and implemented in modern geographic information systems. Standard tools in GIS often use approximate numerical methods, which affects the accuracy of models of geospatial objects in the GIS environment. Therefore, we have analysed and established for each operation of geodetic and cartometric methods a mathematical model that determines a particular cartometric property with maximum accuracy either by analytical or numerical methods with the number of terms in the binomial series of 6 or more. Results. The author proposed 10 operations of the geodetic method and 3 operations of the cartometric method, for which mathematical models and their accuracy were established and substantiated with their corresponding implementation in the MATLAB v. R2018a. The defined list of geodetic and cartometric operations made it possible to move away from the classification of distance lengths that influenced the further use of certain surfaces (map projection plane, sphere, spheroid, or reference ellipsoid) and mathematical models of operations. The presented mathematical models allow performing the relevant geodetic and cartometric methods with maximum accuracy using modern computer technologies. The mathematical models of geodetic and cartometric methods are investigated, which have practically no limitations for achieving the required accuracy, especially for large and ultra-large distances. The scientific novelty of the research is to define and justify a clear list of mathematical models of numerical and analytical geodetic and cartometric methods instead of cartometric methods on the map and standard methods of instrumental GIS; using the surface of the reference ellipsoid, and not just cartographic projections, spheroid or sphere. The practical significance of the research lies in the use of numerical and analytical geodetic and cartometric methods that significantly increase the accuracy of operations in these works, as well as in the creation/updating of digital topographic maps, navigation and route planning, etc. The research results can be concluded that well-founded mathematical models will ensure an increase in the accuracy of computational operations taking into account the curvature of the Earth in all sectors and areas of the economy, which will affect the quality of accounting and monitoring of relevant objects, integration and geospatial analysis of heterogeneous geospatial data, improve the quality (topological consistency) of geospatial data, etc

Abstract:Geodetic networks play the most important role in the accuracy and reliability achieved for surveying and mapping applications. Since 1980, in most world countries, numerous geodetic control networks have been established for a wide range of mapping projects using Global Positioning System (GPS) technology. The main objective of this study is to create a highly accurate, multi-way control network that uses the latest Global Positioning System (GPS) devices and technologies. In this study, a network was established that consists of seven control points distributed in the University of Technology, Iraq - Baghdad, with distances ranging from 50-250 meters or more between the points. The heights above sea level for all control stations were determined using a leveling device and they were linked to the national network, allowing the creation of a geoid model. Accurate for the university in the future. This study presents the monitoring method, the results obtained, and the characteristics, standards, and specifications designed for the geodetic control network. It is expected that this network will improve the reliability of monitoring the deflections in building and the practical part of undergraduate and postgraduate studies The availability of the integrity of geodetic networks, will have a significant impact on the surveying and mapping activities of the University of Technology.

Abstract:The northwestern coast of Egypt is characterized by an international interest due to its history and magnificent environment. The area was known as being the bread basket during the Greek and Roman periods. Recently, drastic changes in land use resulting in destructing many of water harvesting tools, thus diminution of the agriculture importance. Restoration of the area and planning self-sufficient communities needs to develop a sustainable land resources database for these regions. Multi concept of remote sensing and the Geographic Information System (GIS) permit to store, merge, and manipulate the huge amounts of thematic maps and attribute data. Sentinel satellite image 2018 scenes, covering the study area at the Egyptian northwestern coast, were acquired. ENVI software was used for image processing. A number of 53 topographic maps at scale 1:50000 were used to input GIS thematic layers relevant to land resources, using Arc_GIS 10.2 system. Field investigation was carried out to represent different soil units and collect ground control points. Chemical and physical soil properties were determined to assist soil classification. Soil map was produced including dominant geographic units and soil association. MicroLEIS system was employed to define soil suitability classes to olives, peach, wheat, beans, and sunflower crops. An intelligent module will be added to analyze the digital maps, interact the given data with learning tool (layer) to provide the decision makers with suggested solution not only information. The results showed that the soils are generally characterized by the presence of Calcic, Petrogypsic and Salic horizons. The limiting factors found in the piedmont and coastal plains are salinity, soil depth and texture. These factors decrease the suitability classes to be between S2 and S5.It can be concluded that the digital mapping of land resources using Geographic Information System (GIS) and satellite data preserve in the investment spent in soil and other thematic mapping.

Abstract:The present landscape configuration is influenced by structural expansions and ongoing tectonic activities, resulting in notable changes to geological features and landforms. The formation of the Atlas chain is a prime example of this, as it has been sculpted by the combined forces of erosional processes and tectonic activity. These processes have played a significant role in shaping the stream networks and basin topography within the region. Evaluating active tectonics within Cheria Neogene basins holds paramount significance for geological hazard assessment and a deeper understanding of geographical evolution, thereby contributing to urban planning and disaster preparedness efforts. In this study, we investigate the active tectonics processes of the Cheria plateau by employing a combination of digital elevation model (DEM)-derived drainage networks and geomorphic indices. These indices encompass the hypsometric integral (HI), stream-length gradient (SL), transverse topographic symmetry factor (T), basin asymmetry factor (AF), basin shape index (Bs), valley floor width to valley height ratio (Vf), and mountain front sinuosity (Smf). These indices are used to calculate the relative index active tectonics (IRAT) through GIS. By combining these indices, we delineate the distribution of relative tectonic activity in the study area, categorizing it into four hierarchic classes. Our determined IRAT values consistently align with known geological features, and landforms. These results confirm that the Chréa basin is still undergoing formation and experiencing significant neotectonic activity. Based on our findings, we conclude that this integrated methodology effectively identifies regions characterized by pronounced deformation associated with active tectonic processes.

Abstract:Technology has revolutionized geography as a profession and has had a significant impact on the teaching of the subject in K–12 and higher education. Geographic Information Systems (CIS) have transformed the work of professional geographers and university geography faculty. GIS is also a powerful technology for geography teachers at the pre-college level. With this new tool, students can engage in serious inquiry about issues of local and global significance using authentic data. Current research findings about GIS in schools are summarized, along with exemplary GIS projects. Realizing the potential of GIS in the classroom will require new efforts to prepare elementary and secondary geography teachers.
