Abstract:We prove an $L^{2}$ energy gap result for Yang-Mills connections on principal $G$-bundles over compact Kähler surfaces with positive scalar curvature. We prove related results for compact simply-connected Calabi-Yau $2$-folds.

Abstract:We extend an $L^{2}$-energy gap of Yang-Mills connections on principal $G$-bundles $P$ over a compact Riemannian manfold with a $good$ Riemannian metric to the case of a compact Kähler surface with a $generic$ Kähler metric $g$, which guarantees that all ASD connections on the principal bundle $P$ over $X$ are irreducible.

Abstract:In this paper we describe a proof of the formulas of Witten [W1], [W2] about the symplectic volumes and the intersection numbers of the moduli spaces of principal bundles on a compact Riemann surface. It is known that these formulas give all the information needed for the Verlinde formula. The main idea of the proof is to use the heat kernel on compact Lie groups, in a way very similar to the heat kernel proof of the Atiyah-Singer index formula and the Atiyah-Bott fixed point formula. The Reidemeister torsion comes into the picture, through a beautiful observation of Witten, as the symplectic volume of the moduli space. It plays the role similar to that played by the Ray-Singer torsion in the path-integral computations on the space of connections. The basic idea is as follows. Consider a smooth map between two compact smooth manifolds f : M → N . Let H(t, x, x0) be the heat kernel of the Laplace-Beltrami operator on N with x0 a fixed regular value of f . Abstract:Let M be a complete surface with parallel mean curvature in a complete simply connected space form F 2+p (c) of constant curvature c. Denote by H and S the mean curvature and the squared length of the second fundamental form of M respectively. Motivated by L 2-isolation phenomenon in Yang–Mills theory, we prove that if $\int_{M}(S-2H^{2})^{2}dM < D(H,c)$ , where c + H 2 > 0, D(H,c) is an explicit positive constant depending on H and c, then $S \equiv 2H^2$ , i.e., M is a totally umbilical sphere $S^{2}(1/\sqrt{c + H^{2}})$ .

Abstract:In the spirit of recent work of Lamm, Malchiodi and Micallef in the setting of harmonic maps, we identify Yang-Mills connections obtained by approximations with respect to the Yang-Mills {\alpha}-energy. More specifically, we show that for the SU(2) Hopf fibration over the four sphere, for sufficiently small {\alpha} values the SO(4) invariant ADHM instanton is the unique {\alpha}-critical point which has Yang-Mills {\alpha}-energy lower than a specific threshold.

Abstract:In these notes we discuss some aspects of 2D Yang-Mills theory and its relation to invariants of knots in circle bundle over surfaces. We show how it is related to the quantization of the algebra of functions on the moduli space flat bundles over a surface. An easy proof is given that the partition function of the YM2 with Wilson loops can be regarded as tile integral of a function over the moduli space of flat bundles over surface with respect to the symplectic volume form. It is also shown that there is an interesting relation between YM2 and invariants of plain curves, in particular with Arnold's J(+)-invariant.

Abstract:In four and higher dimensions, we show that any stationary admissibleYang-Mills field can be gauge transformed to a smooth field if the L^2 normof the curvature is sufficiently small. There are three main ingredients. Thefirst is Price's monotonicity formula, which allows us to assert that thecurvature is small not only in the L^2 norm, but also in the Morrey normM_2^n/2. The second ingredient is a new inductive (averaged radial) gaugeconstruction and truncation argument which allows us to approximate a singulargauge as a weak limit of smooth gauges with curvature small in the Morrey norm.The second ingredient is variant of Uhlenbeck's lemma, allowing one to place asmooth connection into the Coulomb gauge whenever the Morrey norm of thecurvature is small; This variant was also proved independently by Meyer andRiviere. It follows easily from this variant that a W^1,2-connection can beplaced in the Coulomb gauge if it can be approximated by smooth connectionswhose curvatures have small Morrey norm.
On Yang-Mills fields from anti-de Sitter spaces

Abstract:Motivated by some recent progress involving a non-compact gauge group, we obtain classical gauge fields using non-compact foliations of anti-de Sitter space in 4 dimensions (required dimensionality for conformal invariance of Yang-Mills theory) and transfer these to Minkowski spacetime using a series of conformal maps. This construction also builds upon some previous works involving SU(2) gauge group in that we now use its non-compact counterpart SU(1, 1) here. We note down gauge fields in both Abelian as well as non-Abelian settings and find them to be divergent at some hyperboloid, which is a hypersurface of co-dimension 1 inside the conformal boundary of AdS4. In spite of this hurdle we find a physically relevant field configuration in the Abelian case, reproducing a known result.

Abstract:We establish a direct log-epiperimetric inequality for Yang--Mills fields in arbitrary dimension and we leverage on it to prove uniqueness of tangent cones with isolated singularity for energy minimizing Yang--Mills fields and $\omega$-ASD connections (where $\omega$ is not necessarily closed) satisfying some suitable regularity assumptions. En route to this we establish a Luckhaus type lemma for Yang--Mills connections to exclude curvature concentration along blow-up sequences.

Abstract:On a Riemannian manifold of dimension $n$ we extend the known analytic results on Yang-Mills connections to the class of connections called $\Omega$-Yang-Mills connections, where $\Omega$ is a smooth, not necessarily closed, $(n-4)$-form. Special cases include $\Omega$-anti-self-dual connections and Hermitian-Yang-Mills connections over general complex manifolds. By a key observation, a weak compactness result is obtained for moduli space of smooth $\Omega$-Yang-Mills connections with uniformly $L^2$ bounded curvature, and it can be improved in the case of Hermitian-Yang-Mills connections over general complex manifolds. A removable singularity theorem for singular $\Omega$-Yang-Mills connections on a trivial bundle with small energy concentration is also proven. As an application, it is shown how to compactify the moduli space of smooth Hermitian-Yang-Mills connections on unitary bundles over a class of balanced manifolds of Hodge-Riemann type. This class includes the metrics coming from multipolarizations, and in particular, the Kaehler metrics. In the case of multipolarizations on a projective algebraic manifold, the compactification of smooth irreducible Hermitian-Yang-Mills connections with fixed determinant modulo gauge transformations inherits a complex structure from algebro-geometric considerations.

Abstract:We prove a bubble tree convergence theorem for a sequence of closed Hamiltonian Stationary Lagrangian surfaces with bounded areas and Willmore energies in a complete K{\"a}hler surface. Abstract:A result (Corollary 4.3) in an article by Uhlenbeck (1985) asserts that the $W^{1,p}$-distance between the gauge-equivalence class of a connection $A$ and the moduli subspace of flat connections $M(P)$ on a principal $G$-bundle $P$ over a closed Riemannian manifold $X$ of dimension $d\geq 2$ is bounded by a constant times the $L^p$ norm of the curvature, $\|F_A\|_{L^p(X)}$, when $G$ is a compact Lie group, $F_A$ is $L^p$-small, and $p>d/2$. While we prove that this estimate holds when the Yang-Mills energy function on the space of Sobolev connections is Morse-Bott along the moduli subspace $M(P)$ of flat connections, it does not hold when the Yang-Mills energy function fails to be Morse-Bott, such as at the product connection in the moduli space of flat $\mathrm{SU}(2)$ connections over a real two-dimensional torus. However, we prove that a useful modification of Uhlenbeck's estimate always holds provided one replaces $\|F_A\|_{L^p(X)}$ by a suitable power $\|F_A\|_{L^p(X)}^\lambda$, where the positive exponent $\lambda$ reflects the structure of non-regular points in $M(P)$. The proof of our refinement involves gradient flow and Morse theory for the Yang-Mills energy function on the quotient space of Sobolev connections and a Lojasiewicz distance inequality for the Yang-Mills energy function. A special case of our estimate, when $X$ has dimension four and the connection $A$ is anti-self-dual, was proved by Fukaya (1998) by entirely different methods. Lastly, we prove that if $A$ is a smooth Yang-Mills connection with small enough energy, then $A$ is necessarily flat.

Abstract:Hyperbolic lattices are a new type of synthetic quantum matter emulated in circuit quantum electrodynamics and electric-circuit networks, where particles coherently hop on a discrete tessellation of two-dimensional negatively curved space. While real-space methods and a reciprocal-space hyperbolic band theory have been recently proposed to analyze the energy spectra of those systems, discrepancies between the two sets of approaches remain. In this work, we reconcile those approaches by first establishing an equivalence between hyperbolic band theory and $U(N)$ topological Yang-Mills theory on higher-genus Riemann surfaces. We then show that moments of the density of states of hyperbolic tight-binding models correspond to expectation values of Wilson loops in the quantum gauge theory and become exact in the large-$N$ limit.

Abstract:We discuss some recent progress on the regularity theory of the elliptic Yang-Mills equation. We start with some basic properties of the elliptic Yang-Mills equation, such as Coulomb gauges, monotonicity, and curvature estimates. Next we discuss singularity of stationary Yang-Mills connections and compactness theorems on Yang-Mills connections with bounded L(2) norm of curvature. We also discuss in some detail self-dual solutions of the Yang-Mills equation and describe a compactification of their moduli space.

Abstract:Let $F: [0, \infty) \to [0, \infty)$ be a strictly increasing $C^2$ function with $F(0)=0$. We unify the concepts of $F$-harmonic maps, minimal hypersurfaces, maximal spacelike hypersurfaces, and Yang-Mills Fields, and introduce $F$-Yang-Mills fields, $F$-degree, $F$-lower degree, and generalized Yang-Mills-Born-Infeld fields (with the plus sign or with the minus sign) on manifolds. When $F(t)=t, \frac 1p(2t)^{\frac p2}, \sqrt{1+2t} -1,$ and $1-\sqrt{1-2t},$ the $F$-Yang-Mills field becomes an ordinary Yang-Mills field, $p$-Yang-Mills field, a generalized Yang-Mills-Born-Infeld field with the plus sign, and a generalized Yang-Mills-Born-Infeld field with the minus sign on a manifold respectively. We also introduce the $E_{F,g}-$energy functional (resp. $F$-Yang-Mills functional) and derive the first variational formula of the $E_{F,g}-$energy functional (resp. $F$-Yang-Mills functional) with applications. In a more general frame, we use a unified method to study the stress-energy tensors that arise from calculating the rate of change of various functionals when the metric of the domain or base manifold is changed. These stress-energy tensors, linked to $F$-conservation laws yield monotonicity formulae. A "macroscopic" version of these monotonicity inequalities enables us to derive some Liouville type results and vanishing theorems for $p-$forms with values in vector bundles, and to investigate constant Dirichlet boundary value problems for 1-forms. In particular, we obtain Liouville theorems for $F-$harmonic maps (e.g. $p$-harmonic maps), and $F-$Yang-Mills fields (e.g. generalized Yang-Mills-Born-Infeld fields on manifolds). We also obtain generalized Chern type results for constant mean curvature type equations for $p-$forms on $\Bbb{R}^m$ and on manifolds $M$ with the global doubling property by a different approach. The case $p=0$ and $M=\mathbb{R}^m$ is due to Chern.
Weak limits of the $J$-flow and the deformed Hermitian-Yang-Mills flow on Kähler surfaces: boundary cases

Abstract:We prove that if a pair of Kähler classes is $J$-nef, the $J$-flow on a compact Kähler surface converges to a weak solution of the Monge-Ampère equation in the sense of currents. We also establish the same convergence behavior for the deformed Hermitian-Yang-Mills flow. The method is based on a property of a limit of viscosity subsolutions.

Abstract:We study a smooth analogue of jumping curves of a holomorphic vector bundle, and use Yang-Mills theory over $ S ^{2} $ to show that any non-trivial, smooth Hermitian vector bundle $E $ over a smooth simply connected manifold, must have such curves. This is used to give new examples complex manifolds for which a non-trivial holomorphic vector bundle must have jumping curves in the classical sense, (when $c_1 (E)$ is zero). We also use this to give a new proof a theorem of Gromov on the norm of curvature of unitary connections, and make the theorem slightly sharper. Lastly we define a sequence of new non-trivial integer invariants of smooth manifolds, connected to this theory of smooth jumping curves, and make some computations of these invariants. Our methods include an application of the recently developed Morse-Bott chain complex for the Yang-Mills functional over $S ^{2} $.

Quantitative stability of Yang-Mills-Higgs instantons in two dimensions

Abstract:We prove that if an N-vortex pair nearly minimizes the Yang-Mills-Higgs energy, then it is second order close to a minimizer. First we use new weighted inequalities in two dimensions and compactness arguments to show stability for sections with some regularity. Second we define a selection principle using a penalized functional and by elliptic regularity and smooth perturbation of complex polynomials, we generalize the stability to all nearly minimizing pairs. With the same method, we also prove the analogous second order stability for nearly minimizing pairs on nontrivial line bundles over arbitrary compact smooth surfaces.

Abstract:$F$-Yang-Mills connections are critical points of $F$-Yang Mills functional on the space of connections of a principal fiber bundle, which is a generalization of Yang-Mills connections, $p$-Yang-Mills connections and exponential Yang-Mills connections and so on. Here, $F$ is a strictly increasing $C^{2}$-function. In this paper, we extend Simons theorem for an instability of Yang-Mills connections to $F$-Yang-Mills connections. We derive a sufficient condition that any non-flat, $F$-Yang-Mills connection over convex hypersurfaces in a Euclidean space is instable. In the sphere case, this condition is expressed by an inequality with respect to its dimension and a degree of the differential of the function $F$. The proofs of the results are given by extending Kobayashi-Ohnita-Takeuchi's calculation to $F$-Yang-Mills connections.
