Abstract:We provide a construction of Saito primitive forms for Gepner singularity by studying the relation between Saito primitive forms for Gepner singularities and primitive forms for singularities of the form $F_{k,n}=\sum_{i=1}^n x_i^k$ invariant under the natural $S_n$-action.

Abstract:We introduce a categorical analogue of Saito’s notion of primitive forms. For the category $\textsf{MF}(\frac{1}{n+1}x^{n+1})$ of matrix factorizations of $\frac{1}{n+1}x^{n+1}$, we prove that there exists a unique, up to non-zero constant, categorical primitive form. The corresponding genus zero categorical Gromov–Witten invariants of $\textsf{MF}(\frac{1}{n+1}x^{n+1})$ are shown to match with the invariants defined through unfolding of singularities of $\frac{1}{n+1}x^{n+1}$.
The S^1 Fixed Points in Quot-schemes and Mirror Principle Computations

Abstract:We describe the S 1 -action on the Quot-scheme Quot(E n ) associated to the trivial bundle E n = CP 1 × C n . In particlular, the topology of the S 1 -fixed-point components in Quot(E n ) and the S 1 -weights of the normal bundle of these components are worked out. Mirror Principle, as developed by three of the current authors in the series of work [L-L-Y1, I, II, III, IV], is a method for studying certain intersection numbers on a stable map moduli space. As an application, in Mirror Principle III, Sec 5.4, an outline was given in the case of genus zero with target a flag manifold. The results on S 1 fixed points in this paper are used here to do explicit Mirror Principle computations in the case of Grassmannian manifolds. In fact, Mirror Principle computations involve only a certain distinguished subcollection of the S 1 -fixed-point components. These components are identified and are labelled by Young tableaus. The S 1 -equivariant Euler class eS1 of the normal bundle to these components is computed. A diagrammatic rule that allows one to write down eS1 directly from the Young tableau is given. From this, the aforementioned intersection numbers on the moduli space of stable maps can be worked out. Two examples are given to illustrate our method. Using our method, the A-model for Calabi-Yau complete intersections in a Grassmannian manifold can now also be computed explicitly. This work is motivated by the intention to provide further details of mirror principle and to understand the relation of mirror principle to physical theory. Some related questions are listed for further study.

Abstract: We develop a complex differential geometric approach to the theory of higher residues and primitive forms from the viewpoint of Kodaira-Spencer gauge theory, unifying the semi-infinite period maps for Calabi-Yau models and Landau-Ginzburg models. We give an explicit perturbative construction of primitive forms with respect to opposite filtrations and primitive elements. This leads to a concrete algorithm to compute the Taylor expansions of primitive forms as well as the description of their moduli space for all weighted homogenous cases. As an example, we present unknown perturbative expressions for the primitive form of E_12 singularity and illustrate its application to Landau-Ginzburg mirror symmetry with FJRW-theory.

Abstract:Three-fold quasi-homogeneous isolated rational singularity is argued to define a four dimensional $${\mathcal{N}=2}$$ SCFT. The Seiberg–Witten geometry is built on the mini-versal deformation of the singularity. We argue in this paper that the corresponding Seiberg–Witten differential is given by the Gelfand–Leray form of K. Saito’s primitive form. Our result also extends the Seiberg–Witten solution to include irrelevant deformations.
Triangulated characterizations of singularities

Abstract:This work presents a range of triangulated characterizations for important classes of singularities such as derived splinters, rational singularities, and Du Bois singularities. An invariant called 'level' in a triangulated category can be used to measure the failure of a variety to have a prescribed singularity type. We provide explicit computations of this invariant for reduced Nagata schemes of Krull dimension one and for affine cones over smooth projective hypersurfaces. Furthermore, these computations are utilized to produce upper bounds for Rouquier dimension on the respective bounded derived categories.

A remark on singularities of primitive cohomology classes

Abstract:Green and Griffiths have introduced several notions of singularities associated with normal functions, especially in connection with middle dimensional primitive Hodge classes. In this note, by using the more elementary aspects of the Decomposition Theorem, we define global and local singularities associated with primitive middle dimensional cohomology classes and by using the Relative Hard Lefschetz Theorem, we show that these singularities detect the global and local triviality of the primitive class. In a final section, we write-up a classical inductive argument relating the Hodge conjecture to the local non-vanishing of primitive classes.

Abstract:Definition 0. Let V be a Stein analytic space with x as its only singular point. Let 7r: M -V be a resolution of the singularity of V. We shall denote dim H1(M, 9), 1 < i < n 1 by h(i), and dim Hq(M, UP) for 1 ? p < n, 1 < q < n by hP,q(M). So far as the classification problem is concerned, h (n-i) is one of the most important invariants. In this paper, we shall introduce a bunch of invariants (cf. Definition 2.6, Definition 4.1, and Definition 5.1) which are naturally attached to isolated singularities. These invariants are used to characterize the different notions of sheaves of germs of holomorphic differential forms on analytic spaces. Various formulae which relate all these invariants are proved. We also show how to calculate these invariants explicitly. Our paper is organized as follows. In section 2 we discuss the relationship between three different kinds of sheaves of germs of holomorphic forms introduced by Grauert-Grothendieck, Noether and Ferrari respectively, and the dualizing sheaf on a complex analytic space which admits only isolated singularities. We remark that the torsion sheaf of the sheaf of germs of holomorphic p-forms in the sense of Grauert-Grothendieck was studied by Brieskorn [9], Greuel [48], Kantor [19], Suzuki [38], Vetter [39] and the author [43]. Abstract:We construct a non-affine analogue of the singularity category of a Gorenstein local ring. With this, Buchweitz's classic equivalence of three triangulated categories over a Gorenstein local ring has been generalized to schemes, a project started by Murfet and Salarian more than ten years ago. Our construction originates in a framework we develop for singularity categories of exact categories. As an application of this framework in the non-commutative setting, we characterize rings of finite finitistic dimension.

Abstract:This is the abstract prepared for Workshop on Topology and Geometry (Zhang jiang, China, October 1994), and is a review of my recent works. What kinds of combinations of singularities can appear in small deformation fibers of a fixed singularity? We consider this problem for hypersurface singularities on complex analytic spaces of dimension 2. For all singularities in the beginning par t of Arnold's classification list, the answer to this problem is given by a unique principle described by Dynkin graphs. Abstract:A primitive multiple scheme is a complex Cohen-Macaulay scheme $Y$ such that the associated reduced scheme $X=Y_{red}$ is smooth, irreducible, and that $Y$ can be locally embedded in a smooth variety of dimension $\dim(X)+1$. If $n$ is the multiplicity of $Y$, there is a canonical filtration $X=X_1\subset X_2\subset\cdots\subset X_n=Y$, such that $X_i$ is a primitive multiple scheme of multiplicity $i$. The simplest example is the trivial primitive multiple scheme of multiplicity $n$ associated to a line bundle $L$ on $X$: it is the $n$-th infinitesimal neighborhood of $X$, embedded if the line bundle $L^*$ by the zero section. Let ${\bf Z}_n={spec}(C[t]/(t^n))$. The primitive multiple schemes of multiplicity $n$ are obtained by taking an open cover $(U_i)$ of a smooth variety $X$ and by gluing the schemes $U_i\times{\bf Z}_n$ using automorphisms of $U_{ij}\times {\bf Z}_n$ that leave $U_{ij}$ invariant. This leads to the study of the sheaf of nonabelian groups $G_n$ of automorphisms of $X\times {\bf Z}_n$ that leave the $X$ invariant, and to the study of its first cohomology set. If $n\geq 2$ there is an obstruction to the extension of $X_n$ to a primitive multiple scheme of multiplicity $n+1$, which lies in the second cohomology group $H^2(X,E)$ of a suitable vector bundle $E$ on $X$. In this paper we study these obstructions and the parametrization of primitive multiple schemes. As an example we show that if $X=P_m$ with $m>=3$ all the primitive multiple schemes are trivial. If $X=P_2$, there are only two non trivial primitive multiple schemes, of multiplicities $2$ and $4$, which are not quasi-projective. On the other hand, if $X$ is a projective bundle over a curve, we show that there are infinite sequences $X=X_1\subset X_2\subset\cdots\subset X_n\subset X_{n+1}\subset\cdots$ of non trivial primitive multiple schemes.

Abstract:We propose a simple method for the computation of the flat coordinates and Saito primitive forms on Frobenius manifolds of the deformations of Jacobi rings associated with isolated singularities. The method is based on using a conjecture about integral representations for the flat coordinates and on the Saito cohomology theory. This reduces the computation to a simple linear problem. We consider the case of the deformed Gepner chiral rings. The knowledge of the flat structures of Frobenius manifolds can be used for exact solution of the models of the topological conformal field theories corresponding to these chiral rings.

Deformations of I-surfaces with elliptic singularities

Abstract:An I-surface $S$ is an algebraic surface of general type with $K_S^2 = 1$ and $p_g(S) = 2$. Recent research has centered on trying to give an explicit description of the KSBA compactification of the moduli space of these surfaces. The possible normal Gorenstein examples have been enumerated by work of Franciosi-Pardini-Rollenske. The goal of this paper is to give a more precise description of such surfaces in case their singularities are simple elliptic and/or cusp singularities, and to work out their deformation theory. In particular, under some mild general position assumptions, we show that deformations of the surfaces in question are versal for deformations of the singular points, with two exceptions where the discrepancy is analyzed in detail.

Singularities of Generalized Richardson Varieties

Abstract:Richardson varieties play an important role in intersection theory and in the geometric interpretation of the Littlewood–Richardson Rule for flag varieties. We discuss three natural generalizations of Richardson varieties which we call projection varieties, intersection varieties, and rank varieties. In many ways, these varieties are more fundamental than Richardson varieties and are more easily amenable to inductive geometric constructions. In this article, we study the singularities of each type of generalization. Like Richardson varieties, projection varieties are normal with rational singularities. We also study in detail the singular loci of projection varieties in Type A Grassmannians. We use Kleiman's Transversality Theorem to determine the singular locus of any intersection variety in terms of the singular loci of Schubert varieties. This is a generalization of a criterion for any Richardson variety to be smooth in terms of the nonvanishing of certain cohomology classes which has been known by some experts in the field, but we don't believe has been published previously.

Abstract:For arbitrary level $N$, we relate the generating series of codimension 2 special cycles on $\mathcal{X}_{0}(N)$ to the derivatives of a genus 2 Eisenstein series, especially the singular terms of both sides. On the analytic side, we use difference formulas of local densities to relate the singular Fourier coefficients of the genus 2 Eisenstein series to the nonsingular Fourier coefficients of a genus 1 Eisenstein series. On the geometric side, we study the reduction of cusps to compute the divisor class of the Hodge bundle and the heights of special divisors. When $N$ is square-free, this gives a different proof of the main results in the works of Du, Yang and Sankaran, Shi, and Yang.

A note on the primitive cohomology lattice of a projective surface

Abstract:The isometry class of the intersection form of a compact complex surface can be easily determined from complex-analytic invariants. For projective surfaces the primitive lattice is another naturally occurring lattice. The goal of this note is to show that it can be determined from the intersection lattice and the self-intersection of a primitive ample class, at least when the primitive lattice is indefinite. Examples include the Godeaux surfaces, the Kunev surface and a specific Horikawa surface. There are also some results concerning (negative) definite primitive lattices, especially for canonically polarized surfaces of general type.

Abstract:Sextic double solids, double covers of branched along a sextic surface, are the lowest degree Gorenstein terminal Fano 3-folds, hence are expected to behave very rigidly in terms of birational geometry. Smooth sextic double solids, and those which are -factorial with ordinary double points, are known to be birationally rigid. In this paper, we study sextic double solids with an isolated compound singularity. We prove a sharp bound , describe models for each n explicitly, and prove that sextic double solids with are birationally nonrigid.

Abstract:Let $A$ be an excellent two-dimensional normal local ring containing an algebraically closed field. Then $A$ is called an elliptic singularity if $p_f(A)=1$, where $p_f$ denotes the fundamental genus. On the other hand, the concept of almost Gorenstein rings was introduced by Barucci and Fröberg for one-dimensional local rings and generalized by Goto, Takahashi and Taniguchi to higher dimension. In this paper, we describe almost Gorenstein rings in geometric language using resolution of singularities and give criterions to be almost Gorenstein. In particular, we show that elliptic singularities are almost Gorenstein. Also, for every integer $g\ge 2$, we provide examples of singularities that is almost Gorenstein (resp. not almost Gorenstein) with $p_f(A)=g$. We also provide several examples of determinantal singularities associated with $2\times 3$ matrices, which include both almost Gorenstein singularities and non-almost Gorenstein singularities.
