Abstract:We show the analogy between a generalization of the Rayleigh-Plesset equation of bubble dynamics including surface tension, elasticity and viscosity effects with a reformulation of the Friedmann-Lemaître set of equations describing the expansion of space in cosmology assuming a homogeneous and isotropic universe. By comparing both fluid and cosmic equations, we propose a bold generalization of the newly-derived cosmic equation mapping three continuum mechanics contributions. Conversely, the addition of a cosmological constant-like term in the fluid equation would lead also to a new phenomenology.

Abstract:We generalize previous work on inhomogeneous pre-big bang cosmology by including the effect of non-trivial moduli and antisymmetric-tensor/axion fields. The general quasi-homogeneous asymptotic solution---as one approaches the big bang singularity from perturbative initial data---is given and its range of validity is discussed, allowing us to give a general quantitative estimate of the amount of inflation obtained during the perturbative pre-big bang era. The question of determining early-time ``attractors'' for generic pre-big bang cosmologies is also addressed, and a motivated conjecture is advanced. We also discuss S-duality-related features of the solutions, and speculate on the way an asymptotic T-duality symmetry may act on moduli space as one approaches the big bang.

Abstract:A recent work showing that homogeneous and isotropic cosmologies involving scalar fields are equivalent to the geodesics of certain effective manifolds is generalized to the nonminimally coupled and anisotropic cases. As the Maupertuis-Jacobi principle in classical mechanics, such a result permits us to infer some dynamical properties of cosmological models from the geometry of the associated effective manifolds, allowing us to go a step further in the study of cosmological dynamics. By means of some explicit examples, we show how the geometrical analysis can simplify considerably the dynamical analysis of cosmological models.

Relativistic modeling of cosmological structures with Bianchi IX spacetimes

Abstract:We develop a relativistic framework to investigate the evolution of cosmological structures from the initial density perturbations to the highly nonlinear regime. Our approach involves proposing a procedure to match ``best-fit", exact Bianchi IX (BIX) spacetimes to finite regions within the perturbed Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker universe characterized by a positive averaged spatial curvature. This method enables us to approximately track the nonlinear evolution of the initial perturbation using an exact solution. Unlike standard perturbation theory and exact solutions with a high degree of symmetry (such as spherical symmetry), our approach is applicable to generic initial data, with the only requirement being positive spatial curvature. By employing the BIX symmetries, we can systematically incorporate the approximate effects of shear and curvature into the process of collapse. Our approach addresses the limitations of both standard perturbation theory and highly symmetric exact solutions, providing valuable insights into the nonlinear evolution of cosmological structures.

Non-integrability of the axisymmetric Bianchi IX cosmological model via Differential Galois Theory

Abstract:We investigate the integrability of an anisotropic universe with matter and cosmological constant formulated as Bianchi IX models. The presence of the cosmological constant causes the existence of a critical point in the finite part of the phase space. The separatrix associated to this Einstein's static universe is entirely contained in an invariant isotropic plane forgetting the singularity at the origin. This invariant plane of isotropy is an integrable sub-space of the Taub type. In this paper we analyse the differential Galois group of the second order variational equations to this plane in order to apply the integrability theorem of the second author with Ramis and Sim\' o. The main result is that the model is non-integrable by meromorphic functions.

Abstract:In this study, a new metric potential is created to generate exact solutions to the Einstein field equations with an anisotropic matter distribution. The solutions, so obtained, are very relevant to describe the compact stars like , , , and . These solutions are distinguished by the fact that they admit a linear equation of state which can be applied to strange stars with quark matter. In this model, we investigated various physical aspects such as energy density, pressure (both radial and transverse), anisotropy factor, mass, compactness parameter, surface redshift, and moment of inertia (approximate). Graphical methods were used to analyze energy conditions, equilibrium, and stability of the various of the compact stars and it has been deduced that our proposed model is applicable to anisotropic fluid spheres as all required conditions are fully satisfied. It is also worth mentioning that our model shows a monotonic reduction in the speed of sound with increasing radius.

Abstract:The present work shows that a properly chosen ordering of operators can restore unitarity in anisotropic quantum cosmological models. Bianch V and Bianchi IX models with a perfect fluid are worked out. It has been shown that a transformation of coordinates takes the Hamiltonian to that of an inverse square potential which has equal deficiency indices and a self-adjoint extension is thus possible. It is also shown, although not detected clearly before, that isotropic models are also apt to violate the conservation of probability for a careless operator ordering.

Abstract:I deduce an exact and analytic Bianchi type I solution of Einsteins field equations, which generalizes the isotropic LambdaCDM universe model to a corresponding model with anisotropic expansion. The main point of the article is to present the anisotropic generalization of the LambdaCDM universe model in a way suitable for investigating how anisotropic expansion modifies observable properties of the LambdaCDM universe model. Although such generalizations of the isotropic LambdaCDM universe model have been considered earlier, they have never been presented in this form before. Several physical properties of the model are pointed out and compared with properties of special cases, such as the isotropic LambdaCDM universe model. The solution is then used to investigate the Hubble tension. It has recently been suggested that the cosmic largescale anisotropy may solve the Hubble tension. I consider those earlier suggestions and find that the formulae of these papers lead to the result that the anisotropy of the cosmic expansion is too small to solve the Hubble tension. Then, I investigate the problem in a new way, using the exact solution of the field equations. This gives the result that the cosmic expansion anisotropy is still too small to solve the Hubble tension in the general Bianchi type I universe with dust and LIVE (Lorentz Invariant Vacuum Energy with a constant energy density, which is represented by the cosmological constant) and anisotropic expansion in all three directions even if one neglects the constraints coming from the requirement that the anisotropy should be sufficiently small so that it does not have any significant effect upon the results coming from the calculations of the comic nucleosynthesis during the first ten minutes of the universe. If this constraint is taken into account, the cosmic expansion anisotropy is much too small to solve the Hubble tension.

Homogeneous Cosmological Models in Weyl's Geometrical Scalar-Tensor Theory

Abstract:In this paper, we consider homogeneous cosmological solutions in the context of the Weyl geometrical scalar-tensor theory. Firstly, we exhibit an anisotropic Kasner type solution taking advantage of some similarities between this theory and the Brans-Dicke theory. Next, we consider an isotropic model with a flat spatial section sourced by matter configurations described by a perfect fluid. In this model, we obtain an analytical solution for the stiff matter case. For other cases, we carry out a complete qualitative analysis theory to investigate the general behaviour of the solutions, presenting some possible scenarios. In this work, we do not consider the presence of the cosmological constant nor do we take any potential of the scalar field into account. Because of this, we do not find any solution describing the acceleration of the universe.

Abstract:Theoretical and observational challenges to standard cosmology such as the cosmological constant problem and tensions between cosmological model parameters inferred from different observations motivate the development and search of new physics. A less radical approach to venturing beyond the standard model is the simple mathematical reformulation of our theoretical frameworks underlying it. While leaving physical measurements unaffected, this can offer a reinterpretation and even solutions of these problems. In this spirit, metric transformations are performed here that cast our Universe into different geometries. Of particular interest thereby is the formulation of cosmology in Minkowski space. Rather than an expansion of space, spatial curvature, and small-scale inhomogeneities and anisotropies, this frame exhibits a variation of mass, length and time scales across spacetime. Alternatively, this may be interpreted as an evolution of fundamental constants. As applications of this reframed cosmological picture, the naturalness of the cosmological constant is reinspected and promising candidates of geometric origin are explored for dark matter, dark energy, inflation and baryogenesis. An immediate observation thereby is the apparent absence of the cosmological constant problem in the Minkowski frame. The formalism is also applied to identify new observable signatures of conformal inhomogeneities, which have been proposed as simultaneous solution of the observational tensions in the Hubble constant, the amplitude of matter fluctuations, and the gravitational lensing amplitude of cosmic microwave background anisotropies. These are found to enhance redshifts to distant galaxy clusters and introduce a mass bias with cluster masses inferred from gravitational lensing exceeding those inferred kinematically or dynamically.

Cosmological consequences of an inhomogeneous space-time

Abstract:Astrophysical observations provide a picture of the universe as a 4-dim homogeneous and isotropic flat space-time dominated by an unknown form of dark energy. To achieve such a cosmology one has to consider in the early universe an inflationary era able to overcome problems of standard cosmological models. Here an inhomogeneous model is proposed which allows to obtain a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker behaviour far away from the inhomogeneities and it naturally describes structures formation. We also obtain that the cosmological term does not prevent structure formation, avoiding a fine tuning problem in initial conditions. The asymptotic exact solution have been calculated. A simple test with universe age prediction has been performed. A relation between the inhomogeneity, the breaking of time reversal, parity and the matter-antimatter asymmetry is briefly discussed.

Abstract:International Journal of Modern Physics D, Ahead of Print. Inspired by an exponential [math] gravity model studied in the literature, in this work we introduce a new and viable [math] gravity model, which can be represented as a perturbation of [math]CDM. Typically, within the realm of [math] gravity, the customary approach to investigate cosmological evolution involves employing a parametrization of the Hubble expansion rate in terms of the redshift, [math], among other strategies. In this work, we have implemented a different strategy, deriving an analytical approximation for [math], from which we deduce approximated analytical expressions for the parameters [math], [math] and [math], as well as the deceleration parameter q. In order to verify the viability of this approximate analytical solution, we examined the behavior of these parameters in the late-time regime, in terms of the free parameter of the model, b. We find that for [math], [math] shows a quintessence-like behavior, while for [math], it shows a phantom-like behavior. However, regardless of the sign of b, [math] exhibits a quintessence-like behavior. Furthermore, it has been deduced that as the magnitude of the parameter b increases, the present model deviates progressively from [math]CDM. We have also performed a Markov Chain Monte Carlo statistical analysis to test the model predictions with the Hubble parameter, the Pantheon supernova (SN) observational data and the combination of those samples, obtaining constraints on the parameters of the model and the current values of the Hubble parameter and the matter density. Our findings indicate that this [math] gravity model is indeed a viable candidate for describing the late-time evolution of the Universe at the background level.

The Cosmic No-Hair Theorem and the Nonlinear Stability of Homogeneous Newtonian Cosmological Models

Abstract:The validity of the cosmic no-hair theorem is investigated in the context of Newtonian cosmology with a perfect fluid matter model and a positive cosmological constant. It is shown that if the initial data for an expanding cosmological model of this type is subjected to a small perturbation then the corresponding solution exists globally in the future and the perturbation decays in a way which can be described precisely. It is emphasized that no linearization of the equations or special symmetry assumptions are needed. The result can also be interpreted as a proof of the nonlinear stability of the homogeneous models. In order to prove the theorem we write the general solution as the sum of a homogeneous background and a perturbation. As a by-product of the analysis it is found that there is an invariant sense in which an inhomogeneous model can be regarded as a perturbation of a unique homogeneous model. A method is given for associating uniquely to each Newtonian cosmological model with compact spatial sections a spatially homogeneous model which incorporates its large-scale dynamics. This procedure appears very natural in the Newton-Cartan theory which we take as the starting point for Newtonian cosmology.

Abstract:We have examined an isotropic and homogeneous cosmological model in gravity, where represents the Ricci scalar and exhibits the energy momentum tensor's trace. We examine the stability criteria by performing the dynamical system analysis for our model , where are the constants. We derive a set of autonomous equations and find their solutions by assuming a flat potential . We assess the equilibrium points from these equations and find the eigenvalues. We analyze the physical interpretation of the phase space for this system. We obtain three stable equilibrium points. We also examine the interaction between scalar field and dark energy, represented by and determine the equilibrium points for this interaction. We identify four stable equilibrium points for this interaction. We calculate the values of the physical parameters for both scenarios at each equilibrium point, indicating the Universe's accelerated expansion.

Abstract:We consider the dynamics of a barotropic cosmological fluid in an anisotropic, Bianchi type I space-time in Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld (EiBI) gravity. By assuming an isotropic pressure distribution, we obtain the general solution of the field equations in an exact parametric form. The behavior of the geometric and thermodynamic parameters of the Bianchi type I Universe is studied, by using both analytical and numerical methods, for some classes of high density matter, described by the stiff causal, radiation, and pressureless fluid equations of state. In all cases the study of the models with different equations of state can be reduced to the integration of a highly nonlinear second order ordinary differential equation for the energy density. The time evolution of the anisotropic Bianchi type I Universe strongly depends on the initial values of the energy density and of the Hubble function. An important observational parameter, the mean anisotropy parameter is also studied in detail, and we show that for the dust filled Universe the cosmological evolution always ends into an isotropic phase, while for high density matter filled universes the isotropization of Bianchi type I universes is essentially determined by the initial conditions of the energy density.

Simple Bianchi cosmologies with anisotropic Segre [1(11,1)] dark energy

Abstract:In this paper, we use a sample anisotropic but spatially homogeneous metric to look at the properties of Segre type [1(11,1)] universes, that behave like vacuum energy along a spatial plane (two stresses equal to the negative density) but have distinct stress along the third spatial axis. We examine situations with simple relationships between the distinct and degenerate stresses, finding a closed form parameterizations for the case where the distinct stress is equal to zero and finding new conditions in which the case with all stresses equal has a closed form parameterization. We also use numerical methods to illustrate possible behaviors for the case where the distinct stress is the negative of the degenerate stresses.

Abstract:In this manuscript, we put forth a general scheme for defining initial value problems from Einstein's equations of General Relativity constrained by homogeneous and isotropic expansion. The cosmological models arising as solutions are naturally interpreted as spatially homogeneous and isotropic on ``large scales". In order to show the well-posedness and applicability of such a scheme, we specialize in a class of spacetimes filled with the general homogeneous perfect fluid and inhomogeneous viscoelastic matter. We prove the existence, uniqueness, and relative stability of solutions, and an additional inequality for the energy density. As a consequence of our theorems, a new mechanism of energy transfer appears involving the different components of matter. A class of exact solutions is also obtained to exemplify the general results.
