Abstract:We consider a category of continuous Hilbert space representations and a category of smooth Frechet representations, of a real Jacobi group $G$. By Mackey's theory, they are respectively equivalent to certain categories of representations of a real reductive group $\widetilde L$. Within these categories, we show that the two functors of taking smooth vectors for $G$, and for $\widetilde L$, are consistent with each other. By using Casselman-Wallach's theory of smooth representations of real reductive groups, we define matrix coefficients for distributional vectors of certain representations of $G$. We also formulate Gelfand-Kazhdan criteria for Jacobi groups which could be used to prove the multiplicity one theorem for Fourier-Jacobi models.

Abstract:Let G be one of the classical groups GL(n), U(n), O(n) or Sp(2n), over a nonarchimedean local field of characteristic zero. It is well known that the contragredient of an irreducible admissible smooth representation of G is isomorphic to a twist of it by an automorphism of G. We prove that similar results hold for double covers of G that occur in the study of local theta correspondences.

Abstract:We establish a general framework for representability of a metric group on a (well-behaved) class of Banach spaces. More precisely, let G \mathcal {G} be a topological group, and A \mathcal {A} a unital symmetric C ∗ C^* -subalgebra of U C ( G ) \mathrm {UC}(\mathcal {G}) , the algebra of bounded uniformly continuous functions on G \mathcal {G} . Generalizing the notion of a stable metric, we study A \mathcal {A} -metrics δ \delta , i.e., the function δ ( e , ⋅ ) \delta (e, \cdot ) belongs to A \mathcal {A} ; the case A = W A P ( G ) \mathcal {A}=W\hskip -0.7mm A\hskip -0.2mm P(\mathcal {G}) , the algebra of weakly almost periodic functions on G \mathcal {G} , recovers stability. If the topology of G G is induced by a left invariant metric d d , we prove that A \mathcal {A} determines the topology of G \mathcal {G} if and only if d d is uniformly equivalent to a left invariant A \mathcal {A} -metric. As an application, we show that the additive group of C [ 0 , 1 ] C[0,1] is not reflexively representable; this is a new proof of Megrelishvili [Topological transformation groups: selected topics, Elsevier, 2007, Question 6.7] (the problem was already solved by Ferri and Galindo [Studia Math. 193 (2009), pp. 99–108] with different methods and later the results were generalized by Yaacov, Berenstein, and Ferri [Math. Z. 267 (2011), pp.129–138]). Let now G \mathcal {G} be a metric group, and assume A ⊆ L U C ( G ) \mathcal {A}\subseteq \mathrm {LUC}(\mathcal {G}) , the algebra of bounded left uniformly continuous functions on G \mathcal {G} , is a unital C ∗ C^* -algebra which is the uniform closure of coefficients of representations of G \mathcal {G} on members of F \mathscr {F} , where F \mathscr {F} is a class of Banach spaces closed under l 2 \ell _2 -direct sums. We prove that A \mathcal {A} determines the topology of G \mathcal {G} if and only if G \mathcal {G} embeds into the isometry group of a member of F \mathscr {F} , equipped with the weak operator topology. As applications, we obtain characterizations of unitary and reflexive representability.

The Reverse Representation Problem

Abstract:Cayley's theorem tells us that all groups $\mathbf{G}$ occur as subgroups of the group of automorphisms over some set $X$. In this paper we consider a `sort-of' converse to this question: given a set $X$ and some transformation group $\mathbf{S}$ over $X$, what are the possible group structures on $X$ that result in groups represented by $\mathbf{S}$? We solve this problem in the more general setting of faithful semigroups and observe that the solutions to this problem, which we term unrepresentations, have the structure of a heap. We study this phenomenon in depth and then move onto looking at particular classes of semigroups namely monoids, groups, inverse semigroups and Clifford semigroups.

Abstract:Let $mathbf G$ be a complex orthogonal or complex symplectic group, and let $G$ be a real form of $mathbf G$, namely $G$ is a real orthogonal group, a real symplectic group, a quaternionic orthogonal group, or a quaternionic symplectic group. For a fixed parity $mathbb pin mathbb Z/2mathbb Z$, we define a set $mathrm{Nil}^{mathbb p}_{mathbf G}(mathfrak g)$ of nilpotent $mathbf G$-orbits $mathfrak g$ (the Lie algebra of $mathbf G$). When $mathbb p$ is the parity of the dimension of the standard module of $mathbf G$, this is the set of the stably trivial special nilpotent orbits, which includes all rigid special nilpotent orbits. For each $mathcal O in mathrm{Nil}^{mathbb p}_{mathbf G}(mathfrak g)$, we construct all unipotent representations of $G$ (or its metaplectic cover when $G$ is a real symplectic group and $mathbb p$ is odd) attached to $mathcal O$ via the method of theta lifting and show particular that they are unitary.

Abstract:In this article, we give a representation for compact operators acting between reflexive Banach spaces, which generalizes the representation given by Edmunds et al. for compact operators between reflexive Banach spaces with strictly convex duals. Further, we give a representation for operators on Banach spaces that are comparable to compact normal operators on Hilbert spaces and illustrate our result with an example.

Abstract:We prove that if the group of isometries of C(X,E) is algebraically reflexive, then the group of n-isometries is also algebraically reflexive. Here, X is a compact Hausdorff space and E is a Banach space. As a corollary to this, we establish the algebraic reflexivity of the set of generalized bi-circular projections on C(X,E).

Abstract:We completely characterize orbit reflexivity and R-orbit reflexivity for square matrices over the real numbers. Unlike the complex case in which every matrix is orbit reflexive and C-orbit reflexivity is characterized solely in terms of the Jordan form, the orbit reflexivity and R-orbit reflexivity of a real matrix is described in terms of the linear dependence over Q of certain elements of R/Q. We also show that every n-by-n matrix over an uncountable field F is algebraically F-orbit reflexive.

Abstract:Let $A$ be an additively cancellative semialgebra over an additively cancellative semifield $K$ as defined in [9]. For a given partial action $\alpha$ of a group $G$ on an algebra, the associativity of partial skew group ring together with the existence and uniqueness of enveloping (global) action were studied by M. Dokuchaev and R. Exel [2] which were extended for semialgebras with some restriction by Sharma et. al. using the ring of differences. In a similar way, we extend the results of [2,3] for semialgebras regarding partial representations.

Abstract:Let $W$ be a group endowed with a finite set $S$ of generators. A representation $(V,\rho)$ of $W$ is called a reflection representation of $(W,S)$ if $\rho(s)$ is a (generalized) reflection on $V$ for each generator $s \in S$. In this paper, we prove that for any irreducible reflection representation $V$, all the exterior powers $\bigwedge ^d V$, $d = 0, 1, \dots, \dim V$, are irreducible $W$-modules, and they are non-isomorphic to each other. This extends a theorem of R. Steinberg which is stated for Euclidean reflection groups. Moreover, we prove that the exterior powers (except for the 0th and the highest power) of two non-isomorphic reflection representations always give non-isomorphic $W$-modules. This allows us to construct numerous pairwise non-isomorphic irreducible representations for such groups, especially for Coxeter groups.

Abstract:We continue [GbSh:568] (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="math.LO/0003164" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/math.LO/0003164">math.LO/0003164</a>), proving a stronger result under the special continuum hypothesis (CH). The original question of Eklof and Mekler related to dual abelian groups. We want to find a particular example of a dual group, which will provide a negative answer to the question. In order to derive a stronger and also more general result we will concentrate on reflexive modules over countable principal ideal domains R. Following <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://H.Bass" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a>, an R-module G is reflexive if the evaluation map s:G-->G^{**} is an isomorphism. Here G^*=Hom(G,R) denotes the dual group of G. Guided by classical results the question about the existence of a reflexive R-module G of infinite rank with G not cong G+R is natural. We will use a theory of bilinear forms on free R-modules which strengthens our algebraic results in [GbSh:568] (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="math.LO/0003164" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/math.LO/0003164">math.LO/0003164</a>). Moreover we want to apply a model theoretic combinatorial theorem from [Sh:e] which allows us to avoid the weak diamond principle. This has the great advantage that the used prediction principle is still similar to the diamond, but holds under CH.

Abstract:A class of Lie algebras S (A) associated to generalized Cartan matrices A is studied. The Lie algebras S(A) have much simpler structure than Kac-Moody algebras, but have the same root spaces with g(A). In particular, S(A) has an abelian subalgebra of "half size." We show that, S(A) has a non-degenerate invariant symmetric bilinear form if and only if A is symmetrizable; S(X-1) congruent to S(X-2) if and only if the GCMs X-1 and X-2 are the same up to a permutation of rows and columns.We study the lowest (respectively highest) weight Verma module (V) over bar(lambda) (respectively (V) over tilde (lambda)) over S(A), and obtain the necessary and sufficient conditions for (V) over bar(lambda) to be irreducible, and also find its maximal proper submodule when (V) over bar(lambda) is reducible. The aim of this paper is to show that some of the results remain true if the underlying space is a reflexive Banach space. Abstract:It is known that every countable semigroup admits a weight w for which the semigroup algebra l_1(S,w) is Arens regular and no uncountable group admits such a weight; see [4]. In this paper, among other things, we show that for a large class of semigroups, the Arens regularity of the weighted semigroup algebra l_1(S,w) implies the countability of S.

Abstract:Let K K be an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero, and let G G be a connected reductive algebraic group over K K . We address the problem of classifying triples ( G , H , V ) (G,H,V) , where H H is a proper connected subgroup of G G , and V V is a finite-dimensional irreducible G G -module such that the restriction of V V to H H is multiplicity-free – that is, each of its composition factors appears with multiplicity 1. A great deal of classical work, going back to Dynkin, Howe, Kac, Stembridge, Weyl and others, and also more recent work of the authors, can be set in this context. In this paper we determine all such triples in the case where H H and G G are both simple algebraic groups of type A A , and H H is embedded irreducibly in G G . While there are a number of interesting familes of such triples ( G , H , V ) (G,H,V) , the possibilities for the highest weights of the representations defining the embeddings H > G H>G and G > G L ( V ) G>GL(V) are very restricted. For example, apart from two exceptional cases, both weights can only have support on at most two fundamental weights; and in many of the examples, one or other of the weights corresponds to the alternating or symmetric square of the natural module for either G G or H H .

Abstract:We characterize Beurling quotient subspaces for pure doubly commuting isometric representations of product systems. As a consequence, we derive a concrete regular dilation theorem for a pure completely contractive covariant representation which satisfies Brehmer-Solel condition and using it and the above characterization, we provide a necessary and sufficient condition that when a completely contractive covariant representation is unitarily equivalent to the compression of the induced representation on the Beurling quotient subspace. Further, we study the relation between Sz.Nagy-Foias type factorization of isometric multi-analytic operators and joint invariant subspaces.

Abstract:We continue our study of the representations of the Reflection Equation Algebra (=REA) on Hilbert spaces, focusing again on the REA constructed from the $R$-matrix associated to the standard $q$-deformation of $GL(N,\mathbb{C})$ for $0<q<1$. We consider the Poisson structure appearing as the classical limit of the $R$-matrix, and parametrize the symplectic leaves explicitly in terms of a type of matrix we call a shape matrix. We then introduce a quantized version of the shape matrix for the REA, and show that each irreducible representation of the REA has a unique shape.
