Abstract:In an important (yet unpublished) research note, Ben Yaacov describes how to turn a global Keisler measures into a type over a monster model of the randomization. This transfer methods allow one to turn questions involving measures into those involving types (in continuous logic). Assuming that T is NIP, we show that the Morley product commutes with the transfer map for finitely satisfiable measures. We characterize when the Morley product commutes with the restriction map for pairs of global finitely satisfiable types in the randomization. We end by making some brief observations about the Ellis semigroup in this context.

Abstract:We prove a number of results relating the concepts of Keisler measures, generic stability, randomizations, and NIP formulas. Among other things, we do the following: (1) We introduce the notion of a Keisler-Morley measure, which plays the role of a Morley sequence for a Keisler measure. We prove that if $\mu$ is fim over $M$, then for any Keisler-Morley measure $\lambda$ in $\mu$ over $M$ and any formula $\varphi(x,b)$, $\lim_{i \to \infty} \lambda(\varphi(x_i,b)) = \mu(\varphi(x,b))$. We also show that any measure satisfying this conclusion must be fam. (2) We study the map, defined by Ben Yaacov, taking a definable measure $\mu$ to a type $r_\mu$ in the randomization. We prove that this map commutes with Morley products, and that if $\mu$ is fim then $r_\mu$ is generically stable. (3) We characterize when generically stable types are closed under Morley products by means of a variation of ict-patterns. Moreover, we show that NTP$_2$ theories satisfy this property. (4) We prove that if a local measure admits a suitably tame global extension, then it has finite packing numbers with respect to any definable family. We also characterize NIP formulas via the existence of tame extensions for local measures.

Abstract:The aim of this article is to study some invariants of associative algebras under stable equivalences of Morita type. First of all, we show that, if two finite-dimensional self-injective k-algebras are stably equivalent of Morita type, then their orbit algebras are isomorphic. Secondly, it is verified that the quasitilted property of an algebra is invariant under stable equivalences of Morita type. As an application of this result, it is obtained that if an algebra is of finite representation type, then its tilted property is invariant under stable equivalences of Morita type; the other application to partial tilting modules is given in Section 4. Finally, we prove that when two finite-dimensional k-algebras are stably equivalent of Morita type, their repetitive algebras are also stably equivalent of Morita type under certain conditions.

Abstract:We give several new equivalences of $NIP$ for formulas and new proofs of known results using [T87] and [HOR91]. We emphasize that Keisler measures are more complicated than types (even in $NIP$ context), in an analytic sense. Among other things, we show that, for a first order theory $T$ and formula $\phi(x,y)$, the following are equivalent: (i) $\phi$ has $NIP$ (for theory $T$). (ii) For any global $\phi$-type $p(x)$ and any model $M$, if $p$ is finitely satisfiable in $M$, then $p$ is generalized $DBSC$ definable over $M$. In particular, if $M$ is countable, $p$ is $DBSC$ definable over $M$. (Cf. Definition 3.3, Fact 3.4.) (iii) For any global Keisler $\phi$-measure $\mu(x)$ and any model $M$, if $\mu$ is finitely satisfiable in $M$, then $\mu$ is generalized Baire-1/2 definable over $M$. In particular, if $M$ is countable, $p$ is Baire-1/2 definable over $M$. (Cf. Definition 3.5.) Abstract:As consequence of the VC theorem, any pseudo-finite measure over an NIP ultraproduct is generically stable. We demonstrate a converse of this theorem and prove that any finitely approximable measure over an ultraproduct is itself pseudo-finite (even without the NIP assumption). We also analyze the connection between the Morley product and the pseudo-finite product. In particular, we show that if $\mu$ is definable and both $\mu$ and $\nu$ are pseudo-finite, then the Morley product of $\mu$ and $\nu$ agrees with the pseudo-finite product of $\mu$ and $\nu$. Using this observation, we construct generically stable idempotent measures on pseudo-finite NIP groups.

Abstract:We develop a theory of generically stable and smooth Keisler measures in NIP metric theories, generalizing the case of classical logic. Using smooth extensions, we verify that fundamental properties of (Borel)-definable measures and the Morley product hold in the NIP metric setting. With these results, we prove that as in discrete logic, generic stability can be defined equivalently through definability properties, statistical properties, or behavior under the Morley product. We also examine weakly orthogonal Keisler measures, characterizing weak orthogonality in terms of various analytic regularity properties. We then examine Keisler measures in distal metric theories, proving that as in discrete logic, distality is characterized by all generically stable measures being smooth, or by all pairs of generically stable measures being weakly orthogonal. We then use this, together with our results on weak orthogonality and a cutting lemma, to find analytic versions of distal regularity and the strong Erdős-Hajnal property.

Abstract:We introduce a notion of Morita equivalence for non-selfadjoint operator algebras equipped with a completely isometric involution (operator -algebras). We then show that the unbounded Kasparov product by a Morita equivalence bimodule induces an isomorphism between equivalence classes of twisted spectral triples over Morita equivalent operator -algebras. This leads to a tentative definition of unbounded bivariant K -theory and we prove that this bivariant theory is related to Kasparov's bivariant K -theory via the Baaj-Julg bounded transform. Moreover, the unbounded Kasparov product provides a refinement of the usual interior Kasparov product. We illustrate our results by proving -versions of well-known -algebraic Morita equivalences in the context of hereditary subalgebras, conformal equivalences and crossed products by discrete groups.

Abstract:We initiate the study of a generalization of Kim-independence, Conant-independence, based on the "strong Kim-dividing" of Kaplan, Ramsey and Shelah. We introduce an axiom on stationary independence relations essentially generalizing the "freedom" axiom in some of the free amalgamation theories of Conant, and show that this axiom provides the correct setting for carrying out arguments of Chernikov, Kaplan and Ramsey on $\mathrm{NSOP}_{1}$ theories relative to a stationary independence relation. Generalizing Conant's results on free amalgamation to the limits of our knowledge of the $\mathrm{NSOP}_{n}$ hierarchy, we show using methods from Conant as well as our previous work that any theory where the equivalent conditions of this local variant of $\mathrm{NSOP}_{1}$ holds is either $\mathrm{NSOP}_{1}$ or $\mathrm{SOP}_{3}$ and is either simple or $\mathrm{TP}_{2}$, and observe that these theories give an interesting class of examples of theories where Conant-independence is symmetric, including all of Conant's examples, the small cycle-free random graphs of Shelah and the (finite-language) $\omega$-categorical Hrushovski constructions of Evans and Wong. We then answer a question of Conant, showing that the generic functional structures of Conant and Kruckman are examples of non-modular free amalgamation theories, and show that any free amalgamation theory is $\mathrm{NSOP}_{1}$ or $\mathrm{SOP}_{3}$, while an $\mathrm{NSOP}_{1}$ free amalgamation theory is simple if and only if it is modular. Finally, we show that every theory where Conant-independence is symmetric is $\mathrm{NSOP}_{4}$. Therefore, symmetry for Conant-independence gives the next known neostability-theoretic dividing line on the $\mathrm{NSOP}_{n}$ hierarchy beyond $\mathrm{NSOP}_{1}$. We explain the connection to some established open questions.

Equivariant Nica-Pimsner quotients associated with strong compactly aligned product systems

Abstract:We parametrise the gauge-invariant ideals of the Toeplitz-Nica-Pimsner algebra of a strong compactly aligned product system over $\mathbb{Z}_+^d$ by using $2^d$-tuples of ideals of the coefficient algebra that are invariant, partially ordered, and maximal. We give an algebraic characterisation of maximality that allows the iteration of a $2^d$-tuple to the maximal one inducing the same gauge-invariant ideal. The parametrisation respects inclusions and intersections, while we characterise the join operation on the $2^d$-tuples that renders the parametrisation a lattice isomorphism. The problem of the parametrisation of the gauge-invariant ideals is equivalent to the study of relative Cuntz-Nica-Pimsner algebras, for which we provide a generalised Gauge-Invariant Uniqueness Theorem. We focus further on equivariant quotients of the Cuntz-Nica-Pimsner algebra and provide applications to regular product systems, C*-dynamical systems, strong finitely aligned higher-rank graphs, and product systems on finite frames. In particular, we provide a description of the parametrisation for (possibly non-automorphic) C*-dynamical systems and row-finite higher-rank graphs, which squares with known results when restricting to crossed products and to locally convex row-finite higher-rank graphs.

On the invariance of the string topology coproduct

Abstract:We give a variant of Naef's formula for the failure of invariance of the string topology coproduct under homotopy equivalences, using an obstruction class build from the higher homotopy data one can associate to a homotopy equivalence as well as the ``fake diagonal''. The vanishing of our obstruction class can be seen as a way to measure a form of smallness for homotopy equivalences. We show that the same obstruction rules the failure of invariance for a generalisation of the coproduct to higher dimensional loops.

Abstract:The theory of influences in product measures has profound applications in theoretical computer science, combinatorics, and discrete probability. This deep theory is intimately connected to functional inequalities and to the Fourier analysis of discrete groups. Originally, influences of functions were motivated by the study of social choice theory, wherein a Boolean function represents a voting scheme, its inputs represent the votes, and its output represents the outcome of the elections. Thus, product measures represent a scenario in which the votes of the parties are randomly and independently distributed, which is often far from the truth in real-life scenarios. We begin to develop the theory of influences for more general measures under mixing or correlation decay conditions. More specifically, we prove analogues of the KKL and Talagrand influence theorems for Markov Random Fields on bounded degree graphs with correlation decay. We show how some of the original applications of the theory of in terms of voting and coalitions extend to general measures with correlation decay. Our results thus shed light both on voting with correlated voters and on the behavior of general functions of Markov Random Fields (also called ``spin-systems") with correlation decay.

Abstract:Let k be a perfect field and A a finite dimensional k-algebra of finite global dimension (e.g. the path algebra of a finite quiver without oriented cycles). Making use of the recent theory of noncommutative motives, we prove that the value of every additive invariant at A only depends on the number of simple modules. Examples of additive invariants include algebraic K-theory, cyclic homology (and all its variants), topological Hochschild homology, etc. Along the way we establish two results of general interest. The first one concerns the compatibility between bilinear pairings and Galois actions on the Grothendieck group of every proper dg category. The second one is a transfer result in the setting of noncommutative motives.

Abstract:Given a locally compact quantum group and two $\mathbb{G}$-$W^*$-algebras $\alpha: A\curvearrowleft \mathbb{G}$ and $\beta: B\curvearrowleft \mathbb{G}$, we study the notion of equivariant $W^*$-Morita equivalence $(A, \alpha)\sim_{\mathbb{G}} (B, \beta)$, which is an equivariant version of Rieffel's notion of $W^*$-Morita equivalence. We prove that important dynamical properties of $\mathbb{G}$-$W^*$-algebras, such as (inner) amenability, are preserved under equivariant Morita equivalence. For a coideal von Neumann algebra $L^\infty(\mathbb{K}\backslash \mathbb{G})\subseteq L^\infty(\mathbb{G})$ with dual coideal von Neumann algebra $L^\infty(\check{\mathbb{K}})\subseteq L^\infty(\check{\mathbb{G}})$, we use a natural $\check{\mathbb{G}}$-$W^*$-Morita equivalence $L^\infty(\mathbb{K}\backslash \mathbb{G})\rtimes_\Delta \mathbb{G} \sim_{\check{\mathbb{G}}} L^\infty(\check{\mathbb{K}})$ to relate dynamical properties of $L^\infty(\mathbb{K}\backslash \mathbb{G})$ with dynamical properties of $L^\infty(\check{\mathbb{K}})$. We use this to refine some recent results established by Anderson-Sackaney and Khosravi. This refinement allows us to answer a question of Kalantar, Kasprzak, Skalski and Vergnioux, namely that for $\mathbb{H}$ a closed quantum subgroup of the compact quantum group $\mathbb{G}$, coamenability of $\mathbb{H}\backslash \mathbb{G}$ and relative amenability of $\ell^\infty(\check{\mathbb{H}})$ in $\ell^\infty(\check{\mathbb{G}})$ are equivalent. Moreover, we prove that for compact ergodic $\mathbb{G}$-$W^*$-algebras $(A, \alpha)$ and $(B, \beta)$, we have that $(A, \alpha)$ and $(B, \beta)$ are $\mathbb{G}$-$W^*$-Morita equivalent if and only if the associated $\mathbb{G}$-$C^*$-algebras $(\mathcal{R}(A), \alpha)$ and $(\mathcal{R}(B), \beta)$ of regular elements are $\mathbb{G}$-$C^*$-Morita equivalent.

Abstract:I develop in depth the machinery of $(\mathcal L, n)$-models originally introduced by Shelah and, independently in a slightly different form by Kripke. This machinery allows fairly routine constructions of true but unprovable sentences in $\mathsf{PA}$. I give two applications: 1. Shelah's alternative proof of the Paris-Harrington theorem, and 2. The independence over $\mathsf{PA}$ of a new $\Pi^0_1$ Ramsey theoretic statement about colorings of finite sequences of structures.

Existential characterizations of monadic NIP

Abstract:We show that if a universal theory is not monadically NIP, then this is witnessed by a canonical configuration defined by an existential formula. As a consequence, we show that a hereditary class of relational structures is NIP (resp. stable) if and only if it is monadically NIP (resp. monadically stable). As another consequence, we show that if such a class is not monadically NIP, then it has superexponential growth rate.

Maximal stable quotients of invariant types in NIP theories

Abstract:For a NIP theory $T$, a sufficiently saturated model $\mathfrak{C}$ of $T$, and an invariant (over some small subset of $\mathfrak{C}$) global type $p$, we prove that there exists a finest relatively type-definable over a small set of parameters from $\mathfrak{C}$ equivalence relation on the set of realizations of $p$ which has stable quotient. This is a counterpart for equivalence relations of the main result of the paper "On maximal stable quotients of definable groups in NIP theories" by M. Haskel and A. Pillay which shows the existence of maximal stable quotients of type-definable groups in NIP theories. Our proof adapts the ideas of the proof of this result, working with relatively type-definable subsets of the group of automorphisms of the monster model as defined in the paper "On first order amenability" by E. Hrushovski, K. Krupinski, and A. Pillay.

Non-commutative Lebesgue decomposition of non-commutative measures

Abstract:A positive non-commutative (NC) measure is a positive linear functional on the free disk operator system which is generated by a $d$-tuple of non-commuting isometries. By introducing the hybrid forms, their Cauchy transforms, and techniques from NC reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces (RKHS), we construct a natural Lebesgue decomposition for any positive NC measure against any other such measure. Our work extends the Jury-Martin decomposition, which originally decomposes positive NC measures against the standard NC Lebesgue measure. In fact, we give a more generalized definition of absolute continuity and singularity, which reduces to their definition when the splitting measure is the standard NC Lebesgue measure. This generalized definition makes it possible to extend Jury-Martin theory for any splitting NC measure, and it recovers their decomposition when the splitting NC measure is the Lebesgue one. Our work implies a Lebesgue decomposition for representations of the Cuntz-Toeplitz C*-algebra. Furthermore, our RKHS method gives a new proof of the classical Lebesgue decomposition when applied to the classical one dimensional setting, i.e., $d=1$.

Abstract:We prove that if $X,Y$ are positive, independent, non-Dirac random variables and if for $\alpha,\beta\ge 0$, $\alpha\neq \beta$, $$ \psi_{\alpha,\beta}(x,y)=\left(y\,\tfrac{1+\beta(x+y)}{1+\alpha x+\beta y},\;x\,\tfrac{1+\alpha(x+y)}{1+\alpha x+\beta y}\right), $$ then the random variables $U$ and $V$ defined by $(U,V)=\psi_{\alpha,\beta}(X,Y)$ are independent if and only if $X$ and $Y$ follow Kummer distributions with suitably related parameters. In other words, any invariant measure for a lattice recursion model governed by $\psi_{\alpha,\beta}$ in the scheme introduced by Croydon and Sasada in \cite{CS2020} is necessarily a product measure with Kummer marginals. The result extends earlier characterizations of Kummer and gamma laws by independence of $$ U=\tfrac{Y}{1+X}\quad\mbox{and}\quad V= X\left(1+\tfrac{Y}{1+X}\right), $$ which corresponds to the case of $\psi_{1,0}$. We also show that this independence property of Kummer laws covers, as limiting cases, several independence models known in the literature: the Lukacs, the Kummer-Gamma, the Matsumoto-Yor and the discrete Korteweg de Vries models.
