Abstract:The Minimal R-symmetric Supersymmetric Standard Model (MRSSM) provides a realisation of supersymmetry in which the parameter space is less constrained by the current LHC data than in the simplest supersymmetric scenarios. In the present paper, we obtain the most precise theoretical predictions in the MRSSM for squark production at the LHC, enabling accurate interpretations of LHC data in terms of the MRSSM. We perform threshold resummation of soft gluon corrections to the total cross sections for the production of squark-(anti)squark pairs at the LHC in the MRSSM framework. The resummation is carried out using the direct QCD method and reaches the next-to-next-to-leading-logarithmic (NNLL) accuracy, which requires calculating the one-loop matching coefficients in the relevant production channels. The resummed cross sections are then matched to the available NLO results and evaluated for $\sqrt{S}=13.6$ TeV. Compared with the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), the cross sections in the MRSSM can be significantly reduced, implying less stringent limits on squark and gluino masses. Our results carry significant implications for exploring the viability of supersymmetry at the LHC. The results of our calculation are publicly available as a numerical package.

Abstract:Some doubts have been expressed about low energy supersymmetry (SUSY) following the first run of the LHC. In this talk I will try to present a more upbeat view based on data, rather than theoretical expectations. In particular, I will make the following points: (a) in my opinion the most attractive candidate for dark matter (DM) is now the lightest neutralino with mass around 1 TeV and with well defined properties (a nearly pure higgsino). This follows primarily from a combination of the properties of the discovered Higgs boson, in particular its mass close to 125 Gev, and the relic density of dark matter, and is most clearly visible in the context of unified, or constrained, SUSY frameworks, although the DM candidate is quite generic; (b) this DM candidate will be nearly fully tested in forthcoming one-tonne DM underground search detectors; (c) the CMSSM will be nearly fully tested in the next few years by a combination of expected data from LHC experiments and from direct DM searches, as well as potentially also by the Cherenkov Telescope Array; (d) if naturalness plays any real role in SUSY (which remains unclear), then the amount of fine tuning, which is very large in simple models like the CMSSM, can be significantly reduced (even down to 1 in 20) with properly selected boundary conditions at the unification scale; (e) the (g-2) muon anomaly can be accommodated not only in the context of the general MSSM but also of some unified SUSY models with some superpartners to be within reach of the LHC.

Abstract:The discovery/exclusion of Supersymmetric models for fundamental interactions of particles is one of the milestones targeted by the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), and in particular comprises of a large part of the physics program of the CMS experiment. Since the initial measurements using the 36\ipb of integrated luminosity delivered by the LHC in 2010, presently available results utilize about one fifth of the data delivered in 2011, i.e. in the ballpark of 1\ifb, significantly extending the world limits placed on gluino and squark production signals. An overview of these analyses is presented, highlighting four that had been newly made public as of the date of this conference. The evidence for Supersymmetry (SUSY) is still elusive, and a discussion follows as to where current searches have not yet probed, also pointing out where they might have difficulty ever probing without dedicated arrangements.

Abstract:This paper provides an overview of supersymmetry (SUSY) and the ongoing efforts to detect SUSY particles at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). SUSY proposes corresponding "sparticles" for each Standard Model particle, with the potential to resolve the hierarchy problem, identify dark matter, and unify forces at high energy scales. We explore the key observables central to SUSY searches at the LHC, such as effective mass ($M_{\text{eff}}$), scalar sum of transverse momenta ($H_T$), and stransverse mass ($M_{T2}$)--each of which is instrumental in distinguishing SUSY particles by their mass scales and decay characteristics. The paper also discusses the challenges of differentiating SUSY signals from Standard Model backgrounds, particularly in scenarios without significant missing transverse momentum ($E_T^{\text{miss}}$).

Testing electroweak SUSY for muon $g-2$ and dark matter at the LHC and beyond

Abstract:Given that the LHC experiment has produced strong constraints on the colored supersymmetric particles (sparticles), testing the electroweak supersymmetry (EWSUSY) will be the next crucial task at the LHC. On the other hand, the light electroweakinos and sleptons in the EWSUSY can also contribute to the dark matter (DM) and low energy lepton observables. The precision measurements of them will provide the indirect evidence of SUSY. In this work, we confront the EWSUSY with the muon $g-2$ anomaly, the DM relic density, the direct detection limits and the latest LHC Run-2 data. We find that the sneutrino DM or the neutralino DM with sizable higgsino component has been excluded by the direct detections. Then two viable scenarios are pinned down: one has the light compressed bino and sleptons but heavy higgsinos, and the other has the light compressed bino, winos and sleptons. In the former case, the LSP and slepton masses have to be smaller than about 350 GeV. While in the latter case, the LSP and slepton masses have to be smaller than about 700 GeV and 800 GeV, respectively. From investigating the observability of these sparticles in both scenarios at future colliders, it turns out that the HE-LHC with a luminosity of 15 ab$^{-1}$ can exclude the whole BHL and most part of BWL scenarios at $2\sigma$ level. The precision measurement of the Higgs couplings at the lepton colliders could play a complementary role of probing the BWL scenario.

Abstract:We perform global fits to the parameters of the Constrained Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (CMSSM) and to a variant with non-universal Higgs masses (NUHM1). In addition to constraints from low-energy precision observables and the cosmological dark matter density, we take into account the LHC exclusions from searches in jets plus missing transverse energy signatures with about 5\,fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity. We also include the most recent upper bound on the branching ratio $B_s\to\mu\mu$ from LHCb. Furthermore, constraints from and implications for direct and indirect dark matter searches are discussed. The best fit of the CMSSM prefers a light Higgs boson just above the experimentally excluded mass. We find that the description of the low-energy observables, $(g-2)_{\mu}$ in particular, and the non-observation of SUSY at the LHC become more and more incompatible within the CMSSM. A potential SM-like Higgs boson with mass around 126 GeV can barely be accommodated. Values for ${\cal B}(B_s\to\mu\mu)$ just around the Standard Model prediction are naturally expected in the best fit region. The most-preferred region is not yet affected by limits on direct WIMP searches, but the next generation of experiments will probe this region. Finally, we discuss implications from fine-tuning for the best fit regions.

Low energy SUSY confronted with new measurements of W-boson mass and muon g-2

Abstract:The new CDF II measurement of $W$-boson mass shows a 7$\sigma$ deviation from the Standard Model (SM) prediction, while the recent FNAL measurement of the muon $g-2$ shows a 4.2$\sigma$ deviation (combined with the BNL result) from the SM. Both of them strongly indicate new physics beyond the SM. In this work we study the implication of both measurements on low energy supersymmetry. With an extensive exploration of the parameter space of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), we find that in the parameter space allowed by current experimental constraints from colliders and dark matter detections, the MSSM can simultaneously explain both measurements on the edge of $2\sigma$ level, taking theoretical uncertainties into consideration. The favored parameter space, characterized by a compressed spectrum between bino, wino and stau, with the stop being around 1 TeV, may be covered in the near future LHC searches.

Abstract:Supersymmetry (SUSY) provides elegant solutions to several problems in the Standard Model and searches for SUSY particles are an important component of the LHC physics program. The latest results from electroweak and strong SUSY searches are reported here, conducted by the ATLAS experiment at the CERN LHC. The searches target multiple final states and different assumptions about the decay mode of the produced SUSY particles, including searches for both R-parity conserving models and R-parity violating models, and their possible connections with the recent observation of the flavour and muon g-2 anomalies. The talk will also highlight the employment of novel analysis techniques, including advanced machine learning techniques and special object reconstruction, that are necessary for many of these analyses to extend the sensitivity reach to challenging regions of the phase space.

Interpreting 95 GeV di-photon/$b\bar{b}$ excesses as a lightest Higgs boson of the MRSSM

Abstract:The Minimal R-symmetric Supersymmetric Standard Model (MRSSM) is a well motivated BSM model which can accommodate the observed 125 GeV Higgs boson in agreement with electroweak precision observables, in particular with the $W$ boson mass and $T$ parameter. In the 2016 paper we showed that the SM-like 125 GeV Higgs state can be also realised as the second-to-lightest scalar of the MRSSM, leaving room for another sub-100 GeV state. Motivated by the recent ATLAS and CMS observation of the di-photon excess at a mass of around 95 GeV we investigate the possibility whether this could be the lightest CP-even MRSSM scalar in a variation of our benchmarks presented in the 2016 work. We show that such a state can also simultaneously explain the excess in the $b\bar{b}$ final state observed around the same mass value at LEP. Due to the R-symmetric nature of the model, a light singlet-like Higgs state leads necessarily to a light bino-singlino Dirac dark matter candidate, which can give a correct relic density while evading current experimental bounds. Dark matter and LHC searches place further bounds on this scenario and point to parameter regions which are viable and of interest for the LHC Run III and upcoming dark matter experiments.

Supersymmetry With Prejudice: Fitting the Wrong Model to LHC Data

Abstract:We critically examine interpretations of hypothetical supersymmetric LHC signals, fitting to alternative wrong models of supersymmetry breaking. The signals we consider are some of the most constraining on the sparticle spectrum: invariant mass distributions with edges and end-points from the golden cascade decay chain \tilde{q}_L -> q \chi_2^0 (-> \tilde{l}^{\pm} l^{\mp} q) -> \chi_1^0 l^+ l^- q. We assume a CMSSM point to be the `correct' one, and fit the signals instead to minimal gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking models (mGMSB) with a neutralino quasi-stable lightest supersymmetric particle, minimal anomaly mediation (mAMSB) and large volume string compactification models (LVS). mAMSB and LVS can be unambiguously discriminated against the CMSSM for the parameter point assumed and 1 inverse femtobarn of LHC data at 14 TeV. However, mGMSB would not be discriminated on the basis of the kinematic end-points alone, and would require further, more detailed investigation. The best-fit points of mGMSB and CMSSM look remarkably similar, making experimental discrimination at the LHC appear unlikely by any means.

Higgs Mass from D-Terms: a Litmus Test

Abstract:We explore supersymmetric theories in which the Higgs mass is boosted by the non-decoupling D-terms of an extended $U(1)_X$ gauge symmetry, defined here to be a general linear combination of hypercharge, baryon number, and lepton number. Crucially, the gauge coupling, $g_X$, is bounded from below to accommodate the Higgs mass, while the quarks and leptons are required by gauge invariance to carry non-zero charge under $U(1)_X$. This induces an irreducible rate, $\sigma$BR, for $pp \rightarrow X \rightarrow \ell\ell$ relevant to existing and future resonance searches, and gives rise to higher dimension operators that are stringently constrained by precision electroweak measurements. Combined, these bounds define a maximally allowed region in the space of observables, ($\sigma$BR, $m_X$), outside of which is excluded by naturalness and experimental limits. If natural supersymmetry utilizes non-decoupling D-terms, then the associated $X$ boson can only be observed within this window, providing a model independent `litmus test' for this broad class of scenarios at the LHC. Comparing limits, we find that current LHC results only exclude regions in parameter space which were already disfavored by precision electroweak data.

Abstract:We report on the status of supersymmetric seesaw models in the light of recent experimental results on $\mu \to e + \gamma$, $\theta_{13}$ and the light Higgs mass at the LHC. SO(10)-like relations are assumed for neutrino Dirac Yukawa couplings and two cases of mixing, one large, PMNS-like, and another small, CKM-like, are considered. It is shown that for the large mixing case, only a small range of parameter space with moderate $\tan \beta$ is still allowed. This remaining region can be ruled out by an order of magnitude improvement in the current limit on BR($\mu \to e + \gamma$). We also explore a model with non-universal Higgs mass boundary conditions at the high scale. It is shown that the renormalization group induced flavor violating slepton mass terms are highly sensitive to the Higgs boundary conditions. Depending on the choice of the parameters, they can either lead to strong enhancements or cancellations within the flavor violating terms. Such cancellations might relax the severe constraints imposed by lepton flavor violation compared to mSUGRA. Nevertheless for a large region of parameter space the predicted rates lie within the reach of future experiments once the light Higgs mass constraint is imposed. We also update the potential of the ongoing and future experimental searches for lepton flavor violation in constraining the supersymmetric parameter space.
Impact of recent measurement of $(g-2)_μ$, LHC search for supersymmetry, and LZ experiment on Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model

Abstract:Motivated by the recent measurement of muon anomalous magnetic moment at Fermilab, the rapid progress of the LHC search for supersymmetry, and the significantly improved sensitivities of dark matter direct detection experiments, we studied their impacts on the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). We conclude that higgsino mass should be larger than about $500~{\rm GeV}$ for $M_1 < 0 $ and $630~{\rm GeV}$ for $M_1 > 100~{\rm GeV}$, where $M_1$ denotes the bino mass. These improved bounds imply a tuning of ${\cal{O}}(1\%)$ to predict the $Z$-boson mass and simultaneously worsen the naturalness of the $Z$- and $h$-mediated resonant annihilations to achieve the measured dark matter density. We also conclude that the LHC restrictions have set lower bounds on the sparticle mass spectra: $ m_{\tilde{\chi}_1^0} \gtrsim 210~{\rm GeV}$, $m_{\tilde{\chi}_2^0}, m_{\tilde{\chi}_1^\pm} \gtrsim 235~{\rm GeV}$, $m_{\tilde{\chi}_3^0} \gtrsim 515~{\rm GeV}$, $m_{\tilde{\chi}_4^0} \gtrsim 525~{\rm GeV}$, $m_{\tilde{\chi}_2^\pm} \gtrsim 530~{\rm GeV}$, $m_{\tilde{\nu}_\mu} \gtrsim 235~{\rm GeV}$, $ m_{\tilde{\mu}_1} \gtrsim 215~{\rm GeV}$, and $m_{\tilde{\mu}_2} \gtrsim 250~{\rm GeV}$, where $\tilde{\chi}_{2}^0$ and $\tilde{\chi}_1^\pm$ are wino-dominated when they are lighter than about $500~{\rm GeV}$. These bounds are far beyond the reach of the LEP experiments in searching for supersymmetry and have not been acquired before. In addition, we illuminate how some parameter spaces of the MSSM have been tested at the LHC and provide five scenarios in which the theory coincides with the LHC restrictions. Once the muon g-2 anomaly is confirmed to originate from supersymmetry, this research may serve as a guide to explore the characteristics of the MSSM in future experiments.

Supersymmetry discovery potential of the LHC at $\sqrt{s}=$10 and 14 TeV without and with missing $E_T$

Abstract:We examine the supersymmetry (SUSY) reach of the CERN LHC operating at $\sqrt{s}=10$ and 14 TeV within the framework of the minimal supergravity model. We improve upon previous reach projections by incorporating updated background calculations including a variety of $2\to n$ Standard Model (SM) processes. We show that SUSY discovery is possible even before the detectors are understood well enough to utilize either $E_T^{\rm miss}$ or electrons in the signal. We evaluate the early SUSY reach of the LHC at $\sqrt{s}=10$ TeV by examining multi-muon plus $\ge4$ jets and also dijet events with {\it no} missing $E_T$ cuts and show that the greatest reach in terms of $m_{1/2}$ occurs in the dijet channel. The reach in multi-muons is slightly smaller in $m_{1/2}$, but extends to higher values of $m_0$. We find that an observable multi-muon signal will first appear in the opposite-sign dimuon channel, but as the integrated luminosity increases the relatively background-free but rate-limited same-sign dimuon, and ultimately the trimuon channel yield the highest reach. We show characteristic distributions in these channels that serve to distinguish the signal from the SM background, and also help to corroborate its SUSY origin. We then evaluate the LHC reach in various no-lepton and multi-lepton plus jets channels {\it including} missing $E_T$ cuts for $\sqrt{s}=10$ and 14 TeV, and plot the reach for integrated luminosities ranging up to 3000 fb$^{-1}$ at the SLHC. For $\sqrt{s}=10$ TeV, the LHC reach extends to $m_{gluino}=1.9, 2.3, 2.8$ and 2.9 TeV for $m_{squark}\sim m_{gluino}$ and integrated luminosities of 10, 100, 1000 and 3000 fb$^{-1}$, respectively. For $\sqrt{s}=14$ TeV, the LHC reach for the same integrated luminosities is to $m_{gluino}=2.4,\3.1, 3.7$ and 4.0 TeV.

Abstract:Supersymmetric models with a strongly interacting superconformal hidden sector (HS) may drive soft supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking scalar masses, bilinear soft term Bμ and Higgs combinations mHu,d2+μ2 to small values at some intermediate scale, leading to unique sparticle mass spectra along with possibly diminished fine-tuning in spite of a large superpotential μ parameter. We set up a computer code to calculate such spectra, which are then susceptible to a variety of constraints: (1) possible charge-or-color breaking (CCB) minima in the scalar potential, (2) unbounded from below (UFB) scalar potential, (3) improper electroweak symmetry breaking, (4) a charged or sneutrino lightest SUSY particle (LSP), (5) generating mh∼125 GeV , (6) consistency with LHC sparticle mass limits, and (7) naturalness. We find this bevy of constraints leaves little or no viable parameter space for the case where hidden sector dynamics dominates minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) running, even for the case of nonuniversal gaugino masses. For the case with moderate HS running with comparable MSSM running, and with universal gaugino masses, then the fine-tuning is ameliorated, but nonetheless remains high. Constraining supersymmetry at the LHC with simplified models for squark production

Abstract:An important tool for interpreting LHC searches for new physics are simplified models. They are characterized by a small number of parameters and thus often rely on a simplified description of particle production and decay dynamics. Considering the production of squarks of the first two generations we compare the interpretation of current LHC searches for hadronic jets plus missing energy signatures within simplified models with the interpretation within a complete supersymmetric model. Although we find sizable differences in the signal efficiencies, in particular for large supersymmetric particle masses, the differences between the mass limits derived from a simplified model and from the complete supersymmetric model are moderate given the current LHC sensitivity. We conclude that simplified models provide a reliable tool to interpret the current hadronic jets plus missing energy searches at the LHC in a more model-independent way.

Abstract:This study provides a brief overview of low energy supersymmetry (SUSY) in light of current experimental constraints, such as collider searches, dark matter searches, and muon g−2 measurements. In addition, we survey a variety of low energy supersymmetric models: the phenomenological minimal supersymmetric model (MSSM); the supersymmetric models with cut-off-scale boundary conditions, i.e., the minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) or the constrained MSSM (CMSSM), the gauge mediation of SUSY breaking (GMSB), and the anomaly mediation of SUSY breaking (AMSB), as well as their extensions. The conclusion is that the low energy SUSY can survive all current experimental constraints and remains compelling, albeit suffering from a slight fine-tuning problem. The advanced models such as mSUGRA, GMSB, and AMSB need to be extended if the muon g−2 anomaly comes from new physics.

Abstract:The search for Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) physics is one of the major tasks of the LHC, CERN. In these proceedings, I review the status of searches for Supersymmetry by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations. The efforts in both the hadronic and leptonic search channels are presented. A special focus is placed on the treatment of approximately one inverse femtobarn of early LHC data, and examples of background estimation techniques in such a dataset are given. Phenomenologically, besides "typical" mSUGRA scenarios, signatures based on prompt and non-pointing photons, as well as long-lived leptons and hadrons (R-hadrons) are covered.
