Abstract:In this talk I review the motivations for physics beyond the Standard Model at the TeV scale and the prospects for their detection in the second Run of LHC. Then I focus in the supersymmetric case, paying special attention to the formulation and implications of the Natural SUSY scenario.

Abstract:Some doubts have been expressed about low energy supersymmetry (SUSY) following the first run of the LHC. In this talk I will try to present a more upbeat view based on data, rather than theoretical expectations. In particular, I will make the following points: (a) in my opinion the most attractive candidate for dark matter (DM) is now the lightest neutralino with mass around 1 TeV and with well defined properties (a nearly pure higgsino). This follows primarily from a combination of the properties of the discovered Higgs boson, in particular its mass close to 125 Gev, and the relic density of dark matter, and is most clearly visible in the context of unified, or constrained, SUSY frameworks, although the DM candidate is quite generic; (b) this DM candidate will be nearly fully tested in forthcoming one-tonne DM underground search detectors; (c) the CMSSM will be nearly fully tested in the next few years by a combination of expected data from LHC experiments and from direct DM searches, as well as potentially also by the Cherenkov Telescope Array; (d) if naturalness plays any real role in SUSY (which remains unclear), then the amount of fine tuning, which is very large in simple models like the CMSSM, can be significantly reduced (even down to 1 in 20) with properly selected boundary conditions at the unification scale; (e) the (g-2) muon anomaly can be accommodated not only in the context of the general MSSM but also of some unified SUSY models with some superpartners to be within reach of the LHC.

Abstract:The search for Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) physics is one of the major tasks of the LHC, CERN. In these proceedings, I review the status of searches for Supersymmetry by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations. The efforts in both the hadronic and leptonic search channels are presented. A special focus is placed on the treatment of approximately one inverse femtobarn of early LHC data, and examples of background estimation techniques in such a dataset are given. Phenomenologically, besides "typical" mSUGRA scenarios, signatures based on prompt and non-pointing photons, as well as long-lived leptons and hadrons (R-hadrons) are covered.

Probing Natural SUSY from Stop Pair Production at the LHC

Abstract:We consider the natural supersymmetry scenario in the framework of the R-parity conserving minimal supersymmetric standard model (called natural MSSM) and examine the observability of stop pair production at the LHC. We first scan the parameters of this scenario under various experimental constraints, including the SM-like Higgs boson mass, the indirect limits from precision electroweak data and B-decays. Then in the allowed parameter space we study the stop pair production at the LHC followed by the stop decay into a top quark plus a lightest neutralino or into a bottom quark plus a chargino. From detailed Monte Carlo simulations of the signals and backgrounds, we find the two decay modes are complementary to each other in probing the stop pair production, and the LHC with $ \sqrt{s}=14 $ TeV and 100 fb−1 luminosity is capable of discovering the stop predicted in natural MSSM up to 450 GeV. If no excess events were observed at the LHC, the 95% C.L. exclusion limits of the stop masses can reach around 537 GeV.
Revisiting the LHC Constraints on Gauge-Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking Scenarios

Abstract:Supersymmetry (SUSY) addresses several problems of the Standard Model, such as the naturalness problem and gauge coupling unification, and can provide cosmologically viable dark matter candidates. SUSY must be broken at high energy scales with mechanisms like gravity, anomaly, gauge mediation, etc. This paper revisits the Gauge Mediated SUSY Breaking (GMSB) scenarios in the context of data from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) experiment. The ATLAS mono-photon search at 139 inverse femtobarn integrated luminosity at the 13 TeV LHC, in the context of a simplified General Gauge Mediation (GGM) scenario (which is a phenomenological version of GMSB with an agnostic approach to the nature of the hidden sector), relies on assumptions that do not hold across the entire parameter space. We identify a few crucial assumptions regarding the decay widths of SUSY particles into final states with gravitinos that affect the LHC limits on the masses of the SUSY particles. Our study aims to reinterpret the ATLAS constraints on the gluino-NLSP mass plane, considering all possible decay modes of SUSY particles in a realistic GGM model.

Abstract:We examine the supersymmetry (SUSY) reach of the CERN LHC operating at $\sqrt{s}=10$ and 14 TeV within the framework of the minimal supergravity model. We improve upon previous reach projections by incorporating updated background calculations including a variety of $2\to n$ Standard Model (SM) processes. We show that SUSY discovery is possible even before the detectors are understood well enough to utilize either $E_T^{\rm miss}$ or electrons in the signal. We evaluate the early SUSY reach of the LHC at $\sqrt{s}=10$ TeV by examining multi-muon plus $\ge4$ jets and also dijet events with {\it no} missing $E_T$ cuts and show that the greatest reach in terms of $m_{1/2}$ occurs in the dijet channel. The reach in multi-muons is slightly smaller in $m_{1/2}$, but extends to higher values of $m_0$. We find that an observable multi-muon signal will first appear in the opposite-sign dimuon channel, but as the integrated luminosity increases the relatively background-free but rate-limited same-sign dimuon, and ultimately the trimuon channel yield the highest reach. We show characteristic distributions in these channels that serve to distinguish the signal from the SM background, and also help to corroborate its SUSY origin. We then evaluate the LHC reach in various no-lepton and multi-lepton plus jets channels {\it including} missing $E_T$ cuts for $\sqrt{s}=10$ and 14 TeV, and plot the reach for integrated luminosities ranging up to 3000 fb$^{-1}$ at the SLHC. For $\sqrt{s}=10$ TeV, the LHC reach extends to $m_{gluino}=1.9, 2.3, 2.8$ and 2.9 TeV for $m_{squark}\sim m_{gluino}$ and integrated luminosities of 10, 100, 1000 and 3000 fb$^{-1}$, respectively. For $\sqrt{s}=14$ TeV, the LHC reach for the same integrated luminosities is to $m_{gluino}=2.4,\3.1, 3.7$ and 4.0 TeV.

Abstract:We present the results and prospects for searches beyond the Standard Model (SM) at the LHC by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations. The minimal supersymmetric extension of the SM has been investigated in various configurations and lower limits are set on the s-particle masses. The searches for other scenarios of physics beyond the SM are also presented and lower limits on the mass scale are derived in a large variety of models (new heavy gauge bosons, extra-dimensions, compositeness or dark matter). The prospects for physics using 300 /fb and 3000 /fb of data at the high luminosity LHC are also shown.

Abstract:Supersymmetry (SUSY) provides elegant solutions to several problems in the Standard Model and searches for SUSY particles are an important component of the LHC physics program. The latest results from electroweak and strong SUSY searches are reported here, conducted by the ATLAS experiment at the CERN LHC. The searches target multiple final states and different assumptions about the decay mode of the produced SUSY particles, including searches for both R-parity conserving models and R-parity violating models, and their possible connections with the recent observation of the flavour and muon g-2 anomalies. The talk will also highlight the employment of novel analysis techniques, including advanced machine learning techniques and special object reconstruction, that are necessary for many of these analyses to extend the sensitivity reach to challenging regions of the phase space.

Abstract:Experimental searches for supersymmetry (SUSY) are entering a new era. The failure to observe signals of sparticle production at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has eroded the central motivation for SUSY breaking at the weak scale. However, String Theory requires SUSY at the fundamental scale $M_s$ and hence SUSY could be broken at some high scale below $M_s$. Actually, if this were the case, the lack of experimental evidence for low-energy SUSY could have been anticipated, because most stringy models with high-scale SUSY breaking predict that sparticles would start popping up above about 10 TeV, well beyond the reach of current LHC experiments. We show that using next generation LHC experiments currently envisioned for the Forward Physics Facility (FPF) we could search for signals of neutrino-modulino oscillations to probe models with string scale in the grand unification region and SUSY breaking driven by sequestered gravity in gauge mediation. This is possible because of the unprecedented flux of neutrinos to be produced as secondary products in LHC collisions during the high-luminosity era and the capability of FPF experiments to detect and identify their flavors.

Abstract:The discovery/exclusion of Supersymmetric models for fundamental interactions of particles is one of the milestones targeted by the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), and in particular comprises of a large part of the physics program of the CMS experiment. Since the initial measurements using the 36\ipb of integrated luminosity delivered by the LHC in 2010, presently available results utilize about one fifth of the data delivered in 2011, i.e. in the ballpark of 1\ifb, significantly extending the world limits placed on gluino and squark production signals. An overview of these analyses is presented, highlighting four that had been newly made public as of the date of this conference. The evidence for Supersymmetry (SUSY) is still elusive, and a discussion follows as to where current searches have not yet probed, also pointing out where they might have difficulty ever probing without dedicated arrangements.

Abstract:The suppression of flavor and CP violation in supersymmetric theories may be due to the mechanism responsible for the structure of the Yukawa couplings. We study model independently the compatibility between low energy flavor and CP constraints and observability of superparticles at the LHC, assuming a generic correlation between the Yukawa couplings and the supersymmetry breaking parameters. We find that the superpotential operators that generate scalar trilinear interactions are generically problematic. We discuss several ways in which this tension is naturally avoided. In particular, we focus on several frameworks in which the dangerous operators are naturally absent. These frameworks can be combined with many theories of flavor, including those with (flat or warped) extra dimensions, strong dynamics, or flavor symmetries. We show that the resulting theories can avoid all the low energy constraints while keeping the superparticles light. The intergenerational mass splittings among the sfermions can reflect the structure of the underlying flavor theory, and can be large enough to be measurable at the LHC. Detailed observations of the superparticle spectrum may thus provide new handles on the origin of the flavor structure of the standard model.

Abstract:This paper provides an overview of supersymmetry (SUSY) and the ongoing efforts to detect SUSY particles at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). SUSY proposes corresponding "sparticles" for each Standard Model particle, with the potential to resolve the hierarchy problem, identify dark matter, and unify forces at high energy scales. We explore the key observables central to SUSY searches at the LHC, such as effective mass ($M_{\text{eff}}$), scalar sum of transverse momenta ($H_T$), and stransverse mass ($M_{T2}$)--each of which is instrumental in distinguishing SUSY particles by their mass scales and decay characteristics. The paper also discusses the challenges of differentiating SUSY signals from Standard Model backgrounds, particularly in scenarios without significant missing transverse momentum ($E_T^{\text{miss}}$).

Abstract:I summarize the status of the inclusive SUSY searches conducted by the ATLAS and CMS experiments using the 20 fb-1 of 8 TeV LHC data in the all inclusive, 0 lepton, >=1 lepton and >=2 lepton final states. Current searches show that data are consistent with the SM. The impact of this consistency was explored on a rich variety of SUSY scenarios and simplified models, examples of which I present here.

Abstract:The new CDF II measurement of $W$-boson mass shows a 7$\sigma$ deviation from the Standard Model (SM) prediction, while the recent FNAL measurement of the muon $g-2$ shows a 4.2$\sigma$ deviation (combined with the BNL result) from the SM. Both of them strongly indicate new physics beyond the SM. In this work we study the implication of both measurements on low energy supersymmetry. With an extensive exploration of the parameter space of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), we find that in the parameter space allowed by current experimental constraints from colliders and dark matter detections, the MSSM can simultaneously explain both measurements on the edge of $2\sigma$ level, taking theoretical uncertainties into consideration. The favored parameter space, characterized by a compressed spectrum between bino, wino and stau, with the stop being around 1 TeV, may be covered in the near future LHC searches.

Who's Afraid of the Supersymmetric Dark? The Standard Model vs Low-Energy Supergravity

Abstract:Use of supergravity equations in astronomy and late-universe cosmology is often criticized on three grounds: (i) phenomenological success usually depends on the supergravity form for the scalar potential applying at the relevant energies; (ii) the low-energy scalar potential is extremely sensitive to quantum effects involving very massive particles and so is rarely well-approximated by classical calculations of its form; and (iii) almost all Standard Model particles count as massive for these purposes and none of these are supersymmetric. Why should Standard Model loops preserve the low-energy supergravity form even if supersymmetry is valid at energies well above the electroweak scale? We use recently developed tools for coupling supergravity to non-supersymmetric matter to estimate the loop effects of heavy non-supersymmetric particles on the low-energy effective action, and provide evidence that the supergravity form is stable against integrating out such particles (and so argues against the above objection). This suggests an intrinsically supersymmetric picture of Nature where supersymmetry survives to low energies within the gravity sector but not the visible sector (for which supersymmetry is instead non-linearly realized). We explore the couplings of both sectors in this picture and find that the presence of auxiliary fields in the gravity sector makes the visible sector share many features usually attributed to linearly realized supersymmetry although (unlike for the MSSM) a second Higgs doublet is not required for all Yukawa couplings to be non-vanishing and changes the dimension of the operator generating the Higgs mass. We discuss the naturalness of this picture and some of the implications it might have when searching for dark-sector physics.

Abstract:The heavy right-handed neutrinos in supersymmetric models can act as the source of lepton flavor violation (LFV). LFV processes like $ \mu \rightarrow e \gamma $, $ \tau \rightarrow \mu \gamma $, $ \tau \rightarrow e \gamma $ is an effective way to explore new physics beyond the SM. Among the possible processes, $ \mu $ decays have the greatest discovery potential in most of the supersymmetric models. Experimental inference of lepton flavor-violating processes within a supersymmetric type-II seesaw framework in the non-universal Higgs model (NUHM) and non-universal Scalar Mass model for Yukawa mixing scenarios in the $ S_{4} $ theory with an additional discrete symmetry is presented. The numerical analysis includes full 2 loop renormalization group running effects for the the above mentioned Yukawa coupling matrices. The projected discovery reach of LFV experiments (MEG-II) is mentioned and those regions in mSUGRA, NUHM, NUSM models that have already been excluded by the LHC searches or that which is probed by MEG experiments is specified here. The results presented in this work can influence experimental challenges and physics motivations to construct various BSM theories and sensitivity to test these theories at next run of HE/HL LHC is also considered.

Abstract:Supersymmetric models with a strongly interacting superconformal hidden sector (HS) may drive soft supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking scalar masses, bilinear soft term Bμ and Higgs combinations mHu,d2+μ2 to small values at some intermediate scale, leading to unique sparticle mass spectra along with possibly diminished fine-tuning in spite of a large superpotential μ parameter. We set up a computer code to calculate such spectra, which are then susceptible to a variety of constraints: (1) possible charge-or-color breaking (CCB) minima in the scalar potential, (2) unbounded from below (UFB) scalar potential, (3) improper electroweak symmetry breaking, (4) a charged or sneutrino lightest SUSY particle (LSP), (5) generating mh∼125 GeV , (6) consistency with LHC sparticle mass limits, and (7) naturalness. We find this bevy of constraints leaves little or no viable parameter space for the case where hidden sector dynamics dominates minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) running, even for the case of nonuniversal gaugino masses. For the case with moderate HS running with comparable MSSM running, and with universal gaugino masses, then the fine-tuning is ameliorated, but nonetheless remains high.
