Abstract:The mixed L 1/H-infinity control problem for a class of uncertain linear singular systems is considered using a matrix inequality approach. The purpose is to design a state feedback control law such that the resultant closed-loop system is regular, impulse-free, stable and satisfies some given mixed L 1/H-infinity performance. A sufficient condition for the existence of such control law is given in terms of a set of matrix inequalities by the introduction of inescapable set and *-norm. When these matrix inequalities are feasible, an explicit expression of the desired state feedback control law is given. A numerical example is used to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed approach.

Abstract:The robust D stability analysis problem for a class of singular systems is considered in this paper. With the introduction of some free matrices, a new necessary and sufficient condition for a singular system to be D stable is proposed in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). This result is extended to the singular systems with polytopic uncertainties and a sufficient condition is obtained for the uncertain singular systems to be robust D stable using the parameter-dependent Lyapunov function method. Numerical example shows the effectiveness of the obtained approach. © 2011 ISSN 1881-803X.

Abstract:This paper presents a condition in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) for the quadratic stability of discrete-time interval 2-D systems. With Matlab, it is very convenient to solve this problem. Necessity shows that the condition is less conservative in some cases. The illustrative example shows that this method is effective to check the quadratic stability of discrete-time interval 2-D systems.

Abstract:The problem of robust D admissibility analysis and admissibilization is studied for uncertain descriptor linear systems. Two classes of uncertainties are considered in. this paper, i.e., the norm bounded uncertainty and the polytopic uncertainty. With the introduction, of some free matrices, a new necessary and sufficient condition for the considered descriptor linear system to be D admissible is presented, based on which, sufficient conditions for uncertain descriptor linear systems to be robustly D admissible are proposed. The state feedback control problems are also addressed and explicit expressions of the desired state feedback controller are given in terms of strict linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), which are easily checked. Numerical examples illustrate the efficiency of the obtained approach.

Abstract:The problem of robust H-infinity control for a class of uncertain singular time-delay systems is studied in this paper. A new approach is proposed to describe the relationship between slow and fast subsystems of singular time-delay systems, based on which, a sufficient condition is presented for a singular time-delay system to be regular, impulse free and stable with an H-infinity performance. The robust H-infinity control problem is solved and an explicit expression of the desired state-feedback control law is also given. The obtained results are formulated in terms of strict linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) involving no decomposition of system matrices. A numerical example is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:This paper presents a necessary and sufficient condition for the quadratic stability of dynamic interval systems. The result is obtained in terms of linear matrix inequality (LMI) and extended to cover robust stability of linear systems with uncertain parameters. With the powerful LMI toolbox, it is very convenient to solve this problem. The illustrative examples show that this method is effective and less conservative to check the robust stability of interval systems.

Abstract:Jensen’s inequality and extended Jensen’s inequality are two important integral inequalities when problems of stability analysis and controller synthesis for time-delay systems are considered. The extended Jensen’s inequality introduces two additional free matrices and is generally regarded to be less conservative than Jensen’s inequality. The equivalence between Jensen’s inequality and extended Jensen’s inequality in bounding the quadratic term −h∫t−htẋT(s)Zẋ(s)ds in Lyapunov functional of time-delay systems is presented and theoretically proved. It is shown that the extended Jensen’s inequality does not decrease the lower bound of this quadratic term obtained using Jensen’s inequality, and then it does not reduce the conservativeness though two additional free matrices M1 and M2 are involved.

Abstract:Abstract The focus of the research is on the design of a decentralized output feedback controller for a class of large-scale systems using linear matrix inequalities (LMI). The class of large-scale systems is characterized by unmatched nonlinear interconnection functions that are uncertain but quadratically bounded in the overall system state. An elegant LMI solution to the problem is provided in (Siljak and Stipanovic 2001), but the method requires that the input matrix of each subsystem be invertible, i.e., each subsystem has as many independent control inputs as state variables. We provide an LMI solution that does not require invertibility of the input matrices of each subsystem. Simulation results on an example are given to validate the design.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the analysis and synthesis of linear positive systems based on linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). We first show that the celebrated Perron–Frobenius theorem can be proved concisely by a duality-based argument. Again by duality, we next clarify a necessary and sufficient condition under which a Hurwitz stable Metzler matrix admits a diagonal Lyapunov matrix with some identical diagonal entries as the solution of the Lyapunov inequality. This new result leads to an alternative proof of the recent result by Tanaka and Langbort on the existence of a diagonal Lyapunov matrix for the LMI characterizing the H∞ performance of continuous-time positive systems. In addition, we further derive a new LMI for the H∞ performance analysis where the variable corresponding to the Lyapunov matrix is allowed to be non-symmetric. We readily extend these results to discrete-time positive systems and derive new LMIs for the H∞ performance analysis and synthesis. We finally illustrate their effectiveness by numerical examples on robust state-feedback H∞ controller synthesis for discrete-time positive systems affected by parametric uncertainties.

Designing of the robust stabilizing controller for uncertain delay systems - LMI approach

Abstract:Using linear matrix inequality approach, this paper deals with a class of uncertain dynamic systems. The class of systems under consideration is described by a continuous-time uncertain model with multiple time-varying delays in both states and controls. The uncertainties are unknown but norm-bounded. A sufficient condition for a class of uncertain delay system to be stabilizable is obtaincd. It is shown that the construction of the stabilizing controller involves solving several linear matrix in-qualities. Finally, an example is given both to illustrate the proposed approach's effectiveness and to show the proposed approach's advantages over Riccati equation approach.

Abstract:This paper focuses on the linear matrix inequality (LMI) characterizations of fractional-order linear systems. Based on the generalized Kalman-Yakubovic-Popov (KYP) lemma, two bounded real lemmas of fractional-order linear systems are introduced with respect to two different norms respectively. Then an new bounded real lemma is proposed with more degrees of freedom. In terms of a set of LMIs then, it is generalized for a class of fractional-order uncertain linear systems with the convex polytopic uncertainties, which forms less conservative constraints on ℋ∞ performance. Finally this result is demonstrated in a numerical example.

Abstract:Linear-Quadratic (LQ) problems that arise in systems and controls include the classical optimal control problems of the Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) in both its deterministic and stochastic forms, as well as $H^\infty$-analysis (the Bounded Real Lemma), the Positive Real Lemma, and general Integral Quadratic Constraints (IQCs) tests. We present a unified treatment of all of these problems using an approach which converts linear-quadratic problems to matrix-valued linear-linear problems with a positivity constraint. This is done through a system representation where the joint state/input covariance (the outer product in the deterministic case) matrix is the fundamental object. LQ problems then become infinite-dimensional semidefinite programs, and the key tool used is that of linear-conic duality. Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs) emerge naturally as conal constraints on dual problems. Riccati equations characterize extrema of these special LMIs, and therefore provide solutions to the dual problems. The state-feedback structure of all optimal signals in these problems emerge out of alignment (complementary slackness) conditions between primal and dual problems. Perhaps the new insight gained from this approach is that first LMIs, and then second, Riccati equations arise naturally in dual, rather than primal problems. Furthermore, while traditional LQ problems are set up in $L^2$ spaces of signals, their equivalent covariance-representation problems are most naturally set up in $L^1$ spaces of matrix-valued signals.

Abstract:First, a new linear matrix inequality (LMI) characterization of extended strict positive realness is presented for linear continuous-time systems. Then a class of nonlinear systems with multiple equilibria subject to polytopic uncertainty is addressed by the parameter-dependent Lyapunov function method. New sufficient conditions for global convergence are presented. This allows the Lyapunov function to be parameter dependent. Furthermore, an LMI-based controller design method is also given, and reduced-order controllers can be designed by performing a structural constraint on the introduced slack variables. Several numerical examples are included to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed method.

Abstract:This paper focus on global convergence of a class of uncertain nonlinear systems with periodic feedback nonlinearities. Both the linear part structured and unstructured uncertainties are considered in a unified way. Sufficient conditions for robust global convergence are established in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). With this LMI approach, the largest allowable magnitude of the admissible perturbation was given explicitly by solving a generalized eigenvalue minimization problem which is essentially a convex optimization problem and numerically efficient. Illustrative example confirmed the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed approach.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the H-2 sampled-data control for uncertain linear systems by the impulse response interpretation of the H-2 norm. Two H-2 measures for sampled-data systems are considered. The robust optimal control procedures subject to these two H-2 criteria are proposed. The development is primarily concerned with a multirate treatment in which a periodic time-varying robust optimal control for uncertain linear systems is presented. To facilitate multirate control design, a new result of stability of hybrid system is established. Moreover, the single-rate case is also obtained as a special case. The sampling period is explicitly involved in the result which is superior to traditional methods. The solution procedures proposed in this paper are formulated as an optimization problem subject to linear matrix inequalities. Finally, we present a numerical example to demonstrate the proposed techniques.

Abstract:This paper addresses the problem of Static Output Feedback (SOF) stabilisation for continuous-time linear systems subject to norm-bounded parameter uncertainties using the Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) approach. Usually, this issue leads to the feasibility of a Bilinear Matrix Inequality (BMI), which is difficult to linearise to get non-conservative LMI conditions. We present first, in this paper, some background results on the SOF controller design and that are found to be extended to the case of norm-bounded uncertainties. We show that some restrictions on the feasibility of these results should be guaranteed. Moreover, by means of some technical Lemmas, we transform the BMI into a new LMI with a line search over a scalar variable. An enhanced and less conservative LMI condition with a line search over two scalar variables is also developed. Furthermore, a simplified version of each LMI condition without a priori fixed parameters is also presented. An extensive portfolio of numerical examples is presented in order to evaluate the conservativeness and to show the superiority of the proposed design method to the background results.
