Abstract:We give an inequality of the displacement energy for exact Lagrangian immersions and the symplectic area of punctured holomorphic discs. Our approach is based on Floer homology for Lagrangian immersions and Chekanov's homotopy technique of continuations.

Abstract:We estimate the displacement energy of Lagrangian 3-spheres in a symplectic 6-manifold $X$, by estimating the displacement energy of a one-parameter family $L_{\lambda}$ of Lagrangian tori near the sphere. The proof establishes a new version of Lagrangian Floer theory with cylinder corrections, which is motivated by the change of open Gromov-Witten invariants under the conifold transition. We also make observations and computations on the classical Floer theory by using symplectic sum formula and Welschinger invariants.

Abstract:There are two purposes of the present article. One is to correct an error in the proof of Theorem 6.1.25 in \cite{fooo:book}, from which Theorem J \cite{fooo:book} follows. In the course of doing so, we also obtain a new lower bound of the displacement energy of polydisks in general dimension. The results of the present article are motivated by the recent preprint of Hind \cite{hind} where the 4 dimensional case is studied. Our proof is different from Hind's even in the 4 dimensional case and provides stronger result, and relies on the study of torsion thresholds of Floer cohomology of Lagrangian torus fiber in simple toric manifolds associated to the polydisks.

Abstract:We define an invariant $l(M,W,\omega)$ for Lagrangian submanifold and prove that if the Lagrangian submanifold is embedded in the ball of radius $r_0$, then $l(M,W,\Omega)$ must be smaller than $4\pi t_0^2$. This improves Gromov's Lagrangian embedding theorem.

Abstract:The main purpose of the present paper is a study of orientations of the moduli spaces of pseudo-holomorphic discs with boundary lying on a \emph{real} Lagrangian submanifold, i.e., the fixed point set of an anti-symplectic involutions $\tau$ on a symplectic manifold. We introduce the notion of $\tau$-relatively spin structure for an anti-symplectic involution $\tau$, and study how the orientations on the moduli space behave under the involution $\tau$. We also apply this to the study of Lagrangian Floer theory of real Lagrangian submanifolds. In particular, we study unobstructedness of the $\tau$-fixed point set of symplectic manifolds and in particular prove its unobstructedness in the case of Calabi-Yau manifolds. And we also do explicit calculation of Floer cohomology of $\R P^{2n+1}$ over $\Lambda_{0,nov}^{\Z}$ which provides an example whose Floer cohomology is not isomorphic to its classical cohomology. We study Floer cohomology of the diagonal of the square of a symplectic manifold, which leads to a rigorous construction of the quantum Massey product of symplectic manifold in complete generality.
Non-local boundary energy forms for quasidiscs: Codimension gap and approximation

Abstract:We consider non-local energy forms of fractional Laplace type on quasicircles and prove that they can be approximated by similar energy forms on polygonal curves. The approximation is in terms of generalized Mosco convergence along a sequence of varying Hilbert spaces. The domains of the energy forms are the natural trace spaces, and we focus on the case of quasicircles of Hausdorff dimension greater than one. The jump in Hausdorff dimension results in a mismatch of fractional orders, which we compensate by a suitable choice of kernels. We provide approximations of quasidiscs by polygonal $(\varepsilon,\infty)$-domains with common parameter $\varepsilon>0$ and show convergence results for superpositions of Dirichlet integrals and non-local boundary energy forms.

Abstract:We study nearly geodesic immersions in higher rank symmetric spaces of non-compact type, which we define as immersions that satisfy a bound on their fundamental form, generalizing the notion of immersions in hyperbolic space with principal curvature in $(-1,1)$. This notion depends on the choice of a flag manifold embedded in the visual boundary, and immersions satisfying this bound admit a natural domain in this flag manifold that comes with a fibration. As an application we give an explicit fibration of some domains of discontinuity for some Anosov representations. Our method can be applied in particular to some $\Theta$-positive representations for each notion of $\Theta$-positivity.

Abstract:Our main result is the $\mathcal{C}^0$-rigidity of the area spectrum and the Maslov class of Lagrangian submanifolds. This relies on the existence of punctured pseudoholomorphic discs in cotangent bundles with boundary on the zero section, whose boundaries represent any integral homology class. We discuss further applications of these punctured discs in symplectic geometry.

Abstract:We find new discrete $H^1$- and Poincar\'e-Friedrichs inequalities by studying the invertibility of the DG approximation of the flux for local spaces admitting M-decompositions. We then show how to use these inequalities to define and analyze new, superconvergent HDG and mixed methods for which the stabilization function is defined in such a way that the approximations satisfy new $H^1$-stability results with which their error analysis is greatly simplified. We apply this approach to define a wide class of energy-bounded, superconvergent HDG and mixed methods for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations defined on unstructured meshes using, in 2D, general polygonal elements and, in 3D, general, flat-faced tetrahedral, prismatic, pyramidal and hexahedral elements.
Aspherical Lagrangian submanifolds, Audin's conjecture and cyclic dilations

Abstract:Given a closed, oriented Lagrangian submanifold $L$ in a Liouville domain $\overline{M}$, one can define a Maurer-Cartan element with respect to a certain $L_\infty$-structure on the string homology $\widehat{H}_\ast^{S^1}(\mathcal{L}L;\mathbb{R})$, completed with respect to the action filtration. When the first Gutt-Hutchings capacity of $\overline{M}$ is finite, and $L$ is a $K(\pi,1)$ space, it leads to interesting geometric implications. In particular, we show that $L$ bounds a non-constant pseudoholomorphic disc of Maslov index 2. This confirms a general form of Audin's conjecture and generalizes the works of Fukaya and Irie in the case of $\mathbb{C}^n$ to a wide class of Liouville manifolds. In particular, when $\dim_\mathbb{R}(\overline{M})=6$, every closed, orientable, prime Lagrangian 3-manifold $L\subset\overline{M}$ is diffeomorphic to a spherical space form, or $S^1\times\Sigma_g$, where $\Sigma_g$ is a closed oriented surface.

Abstract:In this paper we define an invariant of a pair of a 6 dimensional symplectic manifold with vanishing 1st Chern class and its relatively spin Lagrangian submanifold with vanishing Maslov index. This invariant is a function on the set of the path connected components of bounding cochains (solutions of the A infinity version of the Maurer-Cartan equation of the filtered A infinity algebra associated to the Lagrangian submanifold). In the case when the Lagrangian submanifold is a rational homology sphere, it becomes a numerical invariant. This invariant depends on the choice of almost complex structures. The way how it depends on the almost complex structures is described by a wall crossing formula which involves a moduli space of pseudo-holomorphic spheres.

Abstract:Let $B^{2n}(R)$ denote the closed $2n$-dimensional symplectic ball of area $R$, and let $\Sigma_g(L)$ be a closed symplectic surface of genus $g$ and area $L$. We prove that there is a symplectic embedding $\bigsqcup_{i=1}^k B^4(R_i) \times \Sigma_g (L) \overset{s}\hookrightarrow \operatorname{int}(B^4(R))\times \Sigma_g (L)$ if and only if there exists a symplectic embedding $\bigsqcup_{i=1}^k B^4(R_i) \overset{s}\hookrightarrow \mathrm{int}(B^4(R))$. This lies in contrast with the standard higher dimensional ball packing problem $\bigsqcup\limits_{i=1}^k B^{2 n}(R_i)\overset{s}\hookrightarrow \mathrm{int}(B^{2n}(R))$ for $n >2$, which we conjecture (based on index behavior for pseudoholomorphic curves) is controlled entirely by Gromov's two ball theorem and volume considerations. We also deduce analogous results for stabilized embeddings of concave toric domains into convex domains, and we establish a stabilized version of Gromov's two ball theorem which holds in any dimension. Our main tools are: (i) the symplectic blowup construction along symplectic submanifolds, (ii) an h-principle for symplectic surfaces in high dimensional symplectic manifolds, and (iii) a stabilization result for pseudoholomorphic holomorphic curves of genus zero.

Abstract:In this note we provide explicit constructions of exact Lagrangian embeddings of tori and Klein bottles inside the symplectisation of an overtwisted contact three-manifold. Note that any closed exact Lagrangian in the symplectisation is displaceable by a Hamiltonian isotopy. We also use positive loops to exhibit elementary examples of topologically linked Legendrians that are dynamically non-interlinked in the sense of Entov-Polterovich.

On the embedding complexity of Liouville manifolds

Abstract:We define a family of symplectic invariants which obstruct exact symplectic embeddings between Liouville manifolds, using the general formalism of linearized contact homology and its L-infinity structure. As our primary application, we investigate embeddings between normal crossing divisor complements in complex projective space, giving a complete characterization in many cases. Our main embedding results are deduced explicitly from pseudoholomorphic curves, without appealing to Hamiltonian or virtual perturbations.

Obstructions for exact submanifolds with symplectic applications

Abstract:Suppose $X^{N}$ is a closed oriented manifold, $\alpha \in H^*(X;\mathbb{R})$ is a cohomology class, and $Z \in H_{N-k}(X)$ is an integral homology class. We ask the following question: is there an oriented embedded submanifold $Y^{N-k} \subset X$ with homology class $Z$ such that $\alpha|_Y = 0 \in H^*(Y;\mathbb{R})$? In this article, we provide a family of computable obstructions to the existence of such 'exact' submanifolds in a given homology class which arise from studying formal deformations of the de Rham complex. In the final section, we apply these obstructions to prove that the following symplectic manifolds admit no non-separating exact (a fortiori contact-type) hypersurfaces: Kähler manifolds, symplectically uniruled manifolds, and the Kodaira--Thurston manifold.

Abstract:We explore analogs of classical centro-affine invariant isoperimetric inequalities, such as the Blaschke--Santaló inequality and the $L_p$-affine isoperimetric inequalities, for convex bodies in spherical space. Specifically, we establish an isoperimetric inequality for the floating area and prove a stability result based on the spherical volume difference. The floating area has previously been studied as a natural extension of classical affine surface area to non-Euclidean convex bodies in spaces of constant curvature. In this work, we introduce the $L_p$-floating areas for spherical convex bodies, extending Lutwak's centro-affine invariant family of $L_p$-affine surface area measures from Euclidean geometry. We prove a duality formula, monotonicity properties, and isoperimetric inequalities associated with this new family of curvature measures for spherical convex bodies. Additionally, we propose a novel curvature entropy functional for spherical convex bodies, based on the $L_p$-floating area, and establish a corresponding dual isoperimetric inequality. Finally, we extend our spherical notions to space forms with non-negative constant curvature in two distinct ways. One extension asymptotically connects with centro-affine geometry on convex bodies as curvature approaches zero, while the other converges with Euclidean geometry. Notably, our newly introduced curvature entropy for spherical convex bodies emerges as a natural counterpart to both the centro-affine entropy and the Gaussian entropy of convex bodies in Euclidean space.

Symmetries and vanishing theorems for symplectic varieties

Abstract:We describe the local and Steenbrink vanishing problems for singular symplectic varieties with isolated singularities. We do this by constructing a morphism $$\mathbb D_X(\underline \Omega_X^{n+p}) \to \underline \Omega_X^{n+p}$$ for a symplectic variety $X$ of dimension $2n$ for $\frac{1}{2}\mathrm{codim}_X(X_{\mathrm{sing}}) < p$, where $\underline \Omega_X^k$ is the $k^{th}$-graded piece of the Du Bois complex and $\mathbb D_X$ is the Grothendieck duality functor. We show this morphism is a quasi-isomorphism when $p = n-1$ and that this symmetry descends to the Hodge filtration on the intersection Hodge module. As applications, we describe the higher Du Bois and higher rational properties for symplectic germs and the cohomology of primitive symplectic 4-folds.

An Energy Stable Approach for Discretizing Hyperbolic Equations with Nonconforming Discontinuous Galerkin Methods

Abstract:When nonconforming discontinuous Galerkin methods are implemented for hyperbolic equations using quadrature, exponential energy growth can result even when the underlying scheme with exact integration does not support such growth. Using linear elasticity as a model problem, we propose a skew-symmetric formulation that has the same energy stability properties for both exact and inexact quadrature-based integration. These stability properties are maintained even when the material properties are variable and discontinuous, and the elements are non-affine (e.g., curved). Additionally, we show how the nonconforming scheme can be made conservative and constant preserving with variable material properties and curved elements. The analytic stability, conservation, and constant preserving results are confirmed through numerical experiments demonstrating the stability as well as the accuracy of the method.

Low-action holomorphic curves and invariant sets

Abstract:We prove a compactness theorem for sequences of low-action punctured holomorphic curves of controlled topology, in any dimension, without imposing the typical assumption of uniformly bounded Hofer energy. In the limit, we extract a family of closed Reeb-invariant subsets. Then, we prove new structural results for the U-map in ECH and PFH, implying that such sequences exist in abundance in low-dimensional symplectic dynamics. We obtain applications to symplectic dynamics and the geometry of surfaces. First, we prove generalizations to higher genus surfaces and three-manifolds of the celebrated Le Calvez-Yoccoz theorem. Second, we show that for any closed Riemannian or Finsler surface a dense set of points have geodesics passing through them that visit different sections of the surface. Third, we prove a version of Ginzburg-Gürel's "crossing energy bound" for punctured holomorphic curves, of arbitrary topology, in symplectizations of any dimension.

Abstract:Let $\Sigma$ be a surface with a symplectic form, let $\phi$ be a symplectomorphism of $\Sigma$, and let $Y$ be the mapping torus of $\phi$. We show that the dimensions of moduli spaces of embedded pseudoholomorphic curves in $\R\times Y$, with cylindrical ends asymptotic to periodic orbits of $\phi$ or multiple covers thereof, are bounded from above by an additive relative index. We deduce some compactness results for these moduli spaces. This paper establishes some of the foundations for a program with Michael Thaddeus, to understand the Seiberg-Witten Floer homology of $Y$ in terms of such pseudoholomorphic curves. Analogues of our results should also hold in three dimensional contact homology.
