Abstract:Following several papers in the prior literature, we study the relationship between order bounded operators, topologically bounded operators and topologically continuous operators. Our main contribution is two folded: (i) we provide a set of counterexamples to illustrate several extant results in the literature; (ii) we give conditions for the space of order bounded operators to coincide with the space of topologically bounded operators as well as conditions for these two spaces to coincide with the space of topologically continuous operators.
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
This paper mainly explores the relationships among three types of operators on Riesz spaces: order - bounded operators, topologically bounded operators, and topologically continuous operators. The author's main contributions are in two aspects:
1. **Providing counter - examples**: In order to illustrate some existing results in the literature, the author provides a series of counter - examples. These counter - examples include:
- A topologically continuous operator is not necessarily order - bounded, that is, \( \text{L}_{\text{tc}}(E_1, E_2) \not\subset \text{L}_b(E_1, E_2) \).
- An order - bounded operator is not necessarily topologically continuous, that is, \( \text{L}_b(E_1, E_2) \not\subset \text{L}_{\text{tc}}(E_1, E_2) \).
- It is further illustrated that the assumption conditions in "Theorem 2.3", "the image space has a locally solid topology" and "the image space has an order - bounded neighborhood near zero", cannot be omitted.
2. **Giving conditions**: The author provides the conditions for making the order - bounded operator space consistent with the topologically bounded operator space and for making these spaces consistent with the topologically continuous operator space. Specifically:
- When \( (E_1, \tau_1) \) is a locally solid Riesz space and \( (E_2, \tau_2) \) has an order - bounded neighborhood near zero, \( \text{L}_{\text{tc}}(E_1, E_2) \) is a vector subspace of \( \text{L}_b(E_1, E_2) \).
- If \( (E_1, \tau_1) \) and \( (E_2, \tau_2) \) are both locally solid Riesz spaces, and \( (E_2, \tau_2) \) is Dedekind complete, then \( \text{L}_b(E_1, E_2)=\text{L}_r(E_1, E_2)=\text{L}_{\text{tb}}(E_1, E_2) \).
- If the interiors of the positive cones of \( (E_1, \tau_1) \) and \( (E_2, \tau_2) \) are non - empty, then \( \text{L}_b(E_1, E_2)=\text{L}_{\text{tb}}(E_1, E_2) \).
Through these studies, the author further obtains several interesting results. For example, under appropriate conditions, each topologically bounded operator can be expressed as the difference between two positive operators, and each positive operator is topologically continuous, etc. These results are helpful for better understanding the relationships among different types of operators on Riesz spaces.
