Abstract:A scheme for compensation of dispersion-induced power fading is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The system transmits two modulated laser lights via a wavelength division multiplexer and a wavelength division demultiplexer. By optimizing the power ratio and the phase difference between the two modulated signals, the dispersion-induced power fading can be adequately compensated. A key significance of our approach is that no adjustments are required when the input radio frequency signal scans over a broad bandwidth of 1 to 12 GHz. We successfully demonstrate the compensation of the power fading for both 20- and 30-km fiber links. An improvement of spurious-free dynamic range is also achieved. Abstract:In the high-speed optical-fiber communication system,chromatic dispersion compensation is a necessary way to improve signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) and the performance of the system.In this paper,we proposed a practical method for 3.2 Tbit/s(40 Gbit/s 40 Gbit/s/channel×80 channel) transmission system.It can be achieved by combining two DCFs in the DCF module(one with high and one with a low RDS) and all distributed Raman amplification.The primary simulation and the effective result were obtained.This is valuable and referable for the realization of the high-speed optical-fiber communication system.

Abstract:Optical fiber is a glass or plastic like wired structure used to transmit information in the form of optical signal from transmitter to receiver end. Whenever we talk about any communication system, we always look over losses. This paper is focused on dispersion loss and how to reduce it. When the pulses travel through optical fiber, after travelling some distance, each pulses start spreading and overlaps with each other and leads to dispersion loss. A phenomenon in which the optical signal gets spread into different colors, each color has its own wavelength and respectively each wavelength travels in different velocity, which cause time delay, and this leads to chromatic dispersion. This paper analyzed the optical fiber performance and reduced dispersion loss in fiber by taking various of FBG function and grating length into consideration. The performance of FBG examined in terms of bit error rate, quality factor value in eye height.

Abstract:Optical time domain multiplexed (OTDM) technology helps to respond to the need for increased capacity and demand in internet traffic using optical transmissions. High-speed optical networks are highly affected by chromatic dispersion (CD) that causes pulse broadening and intersymbol interference (ISI) at the light detector. This paper presents a comparative analysis of chromatic dispersion compensation on 10 Gbps single mode fibre (SMF) and 40 Gbps OTDM operating at C-band using Gaussian apodized linear chirped fibre Bragg grating, Erbium Doped Fibre Amplifier (EDFA) and uniform fibre Bragg grating (UFBG) hybrid approach in OptiSystem 18. A cascade of four UFBG and chirped Bragg gratings design approach presents minimal improvement in the quality factor and achievable single mode fibre length. Quality factor results at a reference wavelength of 1550 nm were obtained for respective chirped Bragg grating lengths of 8 mm, 20 mm, 50 mm, 87 mm, and 90 mm using linear Gaussian apodization. The Q-factor results obtained using the proposed simulation model for single 10 Gb/s channel were respectively 51.14 dBm over 30 km at a grating length of 20 mm and 15.64 dBm over 150 km at 45 mm of grating length. Different eye-diagrams corresponding to varying grating lengths have also been presented for 10 Gb/s and 40 Gb/s at corresponding SMF lengths.

Abstract:A new dispersion compensation method for high-speed terrestrial cascaded Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifier wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) optical transmission systems is proposed. By means of specially designed dispersion-shifted fiber (SDDSF) with zero dispersion wavelength around 1.6 ��m and dispersion slope S0=0.05ps/km/nm, -2--4ps/km/nm dispersion is generated at 1550 nm to avoid severe four-wave mixing in WDM systems using ITU-T G.653 DSF. The positive dispersion of ITU-T G.652 standard single-mode fiber is utilized to compensate for the negative dispersion of SDDSF over 1530-1570nm (EDFA bandwidth). With this method, dispersion induced eye opening penalty could still be less than 1dB after 1000km fiber transmission in systems with bit-rate higher than 10Gb/s per channel.

Abstract:A dynamic chromatic-dispersion-compensation system is implemented with a residual chromatic-dispersion monitoring module based on self-frequency shift effects in a semiconductor optical amplifier. Experimental results show that the compensation range of the system is 100 ps/nm and the residual chromatic dispersion of the transmission link is less than 5 ps/nm.

Abstract:In this work, we demonstrate two- and three-dimensional (3D) simulations of an active silicon-based photonic crystal chromatic dispersion compensator utilizing the free carrier dispersion effect. The device has a low power consumption of 114nW and its intrinsic device modulation speed is predicted to function at 40.5MHz. Due to the device architecture, simulation must be carried out in 3D so as to fully encapsulate the effects of the photonic crystal contributions in the active silicon. The novel device allows waveguiding and electrical transport to be individually tailored to a large extent.

Abstract:A dynamic chromatic dispersion (CD) compensating technique for a 40 Gb/s single-channeled optical fiber communication system is demonstrated. The tunable dispersion compensator is composed of 2 × 2 optical switches, dispersion compensating fiber etc. For controlling the tunable dispersion compensator, a feedback signal is obtained by detecting the narrow band electrical power centered at 12 GHz, and the electrical power increases with the decrease of the accumulated chromatic dispersion. In experiment, the maximal response time of the system is 0.7 s. The compensating range and precision reach 81.55 ps/nm and 5.28 ps/nm respectively which can be further improved by adding the number of optical switches and reducing the length of dispersion compensating fiber. Experiments indicated that the dynamic dispersion compensating system can significantly improve the performance of 40 Gb/s optical communication systems according to the eye diagram before and after dispersion compensating.

Abstract:Concatenated chirped fiber Bragg grating (CBG) has been used to compensate for the dispersion in an optical‐fiber communication system. Dispersion compensation fiber (DCF) is replaced with CBG in normalized sections of a 10‐Gbit/s dispersion‐managed system over 800 km. Abstract:Chromatic dispersion and nonlinear impairments pose challenges in high-capacity optical transmission systems, leading to signal distortions, channel interference and diminished the transmission performances. This paper explores the utilization of dispersion compensating fibers (DCF) using different schemes to mitigate the dispersion that accumulates along the length of a fiber in a 16 × 10 Gbps high-capacity long haul WDM system over a range of 500 km. When different wavelengths of light pulses are transmitted through an optical fiber, they experience varying speeds due to the refractive index's wavelength dependency. As a result, the light pulses become temporally spread out as they travel through the fiber, and this dispersion persists throughout the fiber's length. Considering non-linear effects such as self-phase modulation (SPM) and cross-phase modulation (XPM), this paper analyze and compare the three compensation schemes of DCF in a 16 channel WDM system. Moreover the impact of non-linearities based on fiber length are also analyzed and compared. The results are evaluated by comparing metrics such as Q -factor, bit error rate (BER) and eye height. The analysis concludes that the symmetrical compensation scheme of DCF outperforms the pre- and post-compensation scheme. This finding suggests that the symmetrical compensation method offers a promising solution for high-capacity access networks, providing high spectral efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and improved flexibility.

Abstract:Deploying periodic inline chromatic dispersion compensation enables reducing the complexity of the digital back propagation (DBP) algorithm. However, compared with nondispersion-managed (NDM) links, dispersion-managed (DM) ones suffer a stronger cross-phase modulation (XPM). Utilizing per-channel dispersion-managed (CDM) links (e.g., using fiber Bragg grating) allows for a complexity reduction of DBP, while abating XPM compared to DM links. In this paper, we show for the first time that CDM links enable also a more effective XPM compensation compared to NDM ones, allowing a higher achievable information rate (AIR). This is explained by resorting to the frequency-resolved logarithmic perturbation model and showing that per-channel dispersion compensation increases the frequency correlation of the distortions induced by XPM over the channel bandwidth, making them more similar to a conventional phase noise. We compare the performance (in terms of the AIR) of a DM, an NDM, and a CDM link, considering two types of mismatched receivers: one neglects the XPM phase distortion and the other compensates for it. With the former, the CDM link is inferior to the NDM one due to an increased in-band signal--noise interaction. However, with the latter, a higher AIR is obtained with the CDM link than with the NDM one owing to a higher XPM frequency correlation. The DM link has the lowest AIR for both receivers because of a stronger XPM.

Abstract:We study a whole compensation system for chromatic dispersion and polarization mode dispersion, including monitoring subsystems and compensation subsystems in optical communication systems with single channel speed 40Gbit/s and CSRZ format. We employed the spectral shift effect of a semiconductor optical amplifier for chromatic dispersion monitoring, and a non-linearly chirped fiber Bragg grating for chromatic dispersion compensation. The degree of polarization characterizes is used as feedback control signal of polarization mode dispersion monitoring, and a polarization controller and a polarization maintaining fiber are formed a polarization mode dispersion compensator. The transmission experiment demonstrates that the whole compensation system is effective. It is suit for chromatic dispersion management and polarization mode dispersion eliminating in optical communication systems with high single channel speed and CSRZ format.

Abstract:A chirped fiber grating (CFG) written by the moving fiber/phase mask scanning beam technique with a uniform mask is used to demonstrate the dispersion compensation in the externally modulated microwave/millimeter-wave over fiber system It is found that the use of the CFG is an efficient way to compensate for the severe RF power degradation induced by the fiber chromatic dispersion, which results in a significant improvement in the transmission performance. The signal to noise ratio is improved from 4.8 dB to 24.4 dB when 10.58 GHz RF signal carrying 5 Mbit/s QPSK format data is transmitted over 35 km single mode fiber.

Abstract:We propose a diverse vestigial-sideband-filtering feed forward equalizer and decision feedback equalizer (DVSB-FFE-DFE), which is capable of compensating residual chromatic dispersion (CD) as well as mitigating fiber nonlinearity in on-off keying (OOK) systems. In DVSBFFE-DFE, the upper and the lower VSB filtered signals are jointly equalized with FFE followed by DFE. Simulation results show that in a 42.7 Gbit/s nonreturn-to-zero OOK system, DVSB-FFE-DFE can effectively mitigate the required optical signal-to-noise ratio penalty induced by residual CD and fiber nonlinearity.

Abstract:An experimental demonstration of an all-optical sampling orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (AOS-OFDM) transmission system with inline chromatic dispersion (CD) compensation is carried out to test the nonlinear influence. With five subcarriers non-return-to-zero (NRZ) modulated, the total bit rate is 50 Gb/s without polarization multiplexing. The receiver end is highly simplified with direct detection using optical Fourier transform filter. After transmission in 160-km standard single-mode fiber (SSMF) link with 130-ps/nm residual CD, an optimum input optical power for the system performance is achieved.

In this paper, an adaptive filter employing NLMS algorithm is developed for chromatic dispersion compensation in a 112-Gbit/s PDM-QPSK coherent communication system. The performance of the adaptive filter is analyzed by comparing with present digital filters.
