Abstract:We study the spectra of cyclic signatures of finite graphs and the corresponding cyclic lifts. Starting from a bipartite Ramanujan graph, we prove the existence of an infinite tower of $3$-cyclic lifts, each of which is again Ramanujan.

Abstract:We consider finite graphs whose vertexes are supersingular elliptic curves, possibly with level structure, and edges are isogenies. They can be applied to the study of modular forms and to isogeny based cryptography. The main result of this paper is an upper bound on the modules of the eigenvalues of their adjacency matrices, which in particular implies that these graphs are Ramanujan. We also study the asymptotic distribution of the eigenvalues of the adjacency matrices, the number of connected components, the automorphisms of the graphs, and the connection between the graphs and modular forms.

Graphs with three and four distinct eigenvalues based on circulants

Abstract:In this paper, we aim to address the open questions raised in various recent papers regarding characterization of circulant graphs with three or four distinct eigenvalues in their spectra. Our focus is on providing characterizations and constructing classes of graphs falling under this specific category. We present a characterization of circulant graphs with prime number order and unitary Cayley graphs with arbitrary order, both of which possess spectra displaying three or four distinct eigenvalues. Various constructions of circulant graphs with composite orders are provided whose spectra consist of four distinct eigenvalues. These constructions primarily utilize specific subgraphs of circulant graphs that already possess two or three eigenvalues in their spectra, employing graph operations like the tensor product, the union, and the complement. Finally, we characterize the iterated line graphs of unitary Cayley graphs whose spectra contain three or four distinct eigenvalues, and we show their non-circulant nature.

Abstract:We consider finite analogues of Euclidean graphs in a more general setting than that considered in [A. Medrano, P. Myers, H.M. Stark, A. Terras, Finite analogues of Euclidean space, J. Comput. Appl. Math. 68 (1996) 221-238] and we obtain many new examples of Ramanujan graphs. In order to prove these results, we use the previous work of [W.M. Kwok, Character tables of association schemes of affine type, European J. Combin. 13 (1992) 167-185] calculating the character tables of certain association schemes of affine type. A key observation is that we can obtain better estimates for the ordinary Kloosterman sum K(a,b;q). In particular, we always achieve |K(a,b;q)|<2q, and |K(a,b;q)|@__ __2q-2 in many (but not all) of the cases, instead of the well known |K(a,b;q)|@__ __2q. Also, we use the ideas of controlling association schemes, and the Ennola type dualities, in our previous work on the character tables of commutative association schemes. The method in this paper will be used to construct many more new examples of families of Ramanujan graphs in the subsequent paper.
Spectral triples for higher-rank graph $C^*$-algebras

Abstract:In this note, we present a new way to associate a spectral triple to the noncommutative $C^*$-algebra $C^*(\Lambda)$ of a strongly connected finite higher-rank graph $\Lambda$. We generalize a spectral triple of Consani and Marcolli from Cuntz-Krieger algebras to higher-rank graph $C^*$-algebras $C^*(\Lambda)$, and we prove that these spectral triples are intimately connected to the wavelet decomposition of the infinite path space of $\Lambda$ which was introduced by Farsi, Gillaspy, Kang, and Packer in 2015. In particular, we prove that the wavelet decomposition of Farsi et al. describes the eigenspaces of the Dirac operator of this spectral triple.

Cyclic lifts of purely inseparable extensions

Abstract:Given a discrete valued field $K$ of positive characteristic, we study the cyclic lifting problem of purely inseparable extensions of the residue field. We prove that unlike the mixed characteristic case, cyclic lifts of any finite purely inseparable modular extension exist and show how to explicitly construct them. Moreover, given such a residual extension, we prove the existence of Artin-Schreier-Witt lifts of any finite degree. This follows from a more general construction based on the notion of $\mathcal{G}$-weaves and $\mathcal{G}$-cyclic extensions where $\mathcal{G}$ is an arbitrary gene over $K$. In particular, this gives an affirmative answer to a question in \cite{ramification_survey} as well as implies that there is no cap on the wild ramification index unlike the mixed characteristic case. We also show some interesting applications such as constructing cyclic lifts of fields that are isomorphic to the tensor product of a purely inseparable modular extension and an Artin-Schreier-Witt extension. Finally, we prove a structure theorem of Artin-Schreier-Witt extensions over a discrete valued fields which restricts the ramification type of intermediate field extensions complementing the above results.

Abstract:Let (C, C'S) be a type I irreducible reductive dual pair in Sp(W-R). We assume that (C, C') is in the stable range where G is the smaller member. Let K and K' be maximal compact subgroups of G and G' respectively. Let g = t circle plus p and g' = t' circle plus p' be the complexified Cartan decompositions of the Lie algebras of G and G' respectively. Let (K) over tilde and (K') over tilde be the inverse images of K and K' in the metaplectic double cover Sp(W-R) of Sp(W-R). Let rho be a genuine irreducible (g, (K) over tilde)-module. Our first main result is that if rho is unitarizable, then except for one special case, the full local theta lift rho' = Theta(rho) is equal to the local theta lift theta(rho). Thus excluding the special case, the full theta lift rho' is an irreducible and unitarizable (g', (K') over tilde)-module. Our second main result is that the associated variety and the associated cycle of p' are the theta lifts of the associated variety and the associated cycle of the contragredient representation p* respectively. Finally we obtain some interesting (9, (K) over tilde)-modules whose (K) over tilde -spectrums are isomorphic to the spaces of global sections of some vector bundles on some nilpotent K-C-orbits in p*.
On the Eigenvalues of Graphs with Mixed Algebraic Structure

Abstract:We study some spectral properties of a matrix that is constructed as a combination of a Laplacian and an adjacency matrix of simple graphs. The matrix considered depends on a positive parameter, as such we consider the implications in different regimes of such a parameter, perturbative and beyond. Our main goal is to relate spectral properties to the graph's configuration, or to basic properties of the Laplacian and adjacency matrices. We explain the connections with dynamic networks and their stability properties, which lead us to state a conjecture for the signature.

Abstract:The symmetric signature is an invariant of local domains which was recently introduced by Brenner and the first author in an attempt to find a replacement for the $F$-signature in characteristic zero. In the present note we compute the symmetric signature for two-dimensional cyclic quotient singularities, i.e. invariant subrings $k[[u,v]]^G$ of rings of formal power series under the action of a cyclic group $G$. Equivalently, these rings arise as the completions (at the irrelevant ideal) of two-dimensional normal toric rings. We show that for this class of rings the symmetric signature coincides with the $F$-signature.

Abstract:A infinity-graph is a graph consisting of two cycles with just a vertex in common. We first look for some invariants for cospectral graphs, then we introduce a new method to determine the degree sequence of cospectral mates of a graph. In this paper, we prove that all infinity-graphs without triangles are determined by their Laplacian spectra and that all infinity-graphs, with one exception, are determined by their signless Laplacian spectra. For the exception we determine all graphs that are cospectral (w.r.t. signless Laplacian spectrum) to it. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:We consider lifting eigenvalues and eigenvectors of graphs to their {\em factored lifts}, derived by means of a {\em combined voltage assignment} in a group. The latter extends the concept of (ordinary) voltage assignments known from regular coverings and corresponds to the cases of generalized covers of Potočnik and Toledo (2021) in which a group of automorphisms of a lift acts freely on its arc set. With the help of group representations and certain matrices over complex group rings associated with the graphs to be lifted, we develop a method for the determination of the complete spectra of the factored lift graphs and derive a sufficient condition for lifting eigenvectors.

Abstract:Two graphs having the same spectrum are said to be cospectral. Two graphs such that the absolute values of their nonzero eigenvalues coincide are singularly cospectral graphs. Cospectrality implies singular cospectrality, but the converse may be false. In this paper, we present sufficient conditions for two circulant graphs, with an even number of vertices, to be noncospectral singularly cospectral graphs. In this analysis, we study when a pair of these graphs have the same or distinct inertia. In addition, we show that two singularly cospectral circulant graphs with an odd prime number of vertices are isomorphic.

Abstract:This article approaches the counting of subgraphs, in terms of signature-type functionals defined over combinatorial Hopf algebras of graphs. Well-known algebraic identities that arise in the context of counting subgraphs are then captured by their character property and a type of "Chen's identity". While different notions of subgraphs (and homomorphisms) correspond to different combinatorial Hopf algebras on graphs, we will show that they are all isomorphic to a polynomial Hopf algebra. In addition, the isomorphy between the Hopf algebras can be realized by maps that respect the counting operations.

Abstract:It is well known that a graph $G$ has a symmetric spectrum if and only if it is bipar?tite, a signed graph $\Gamma=(G,\sigma)$ has a symmetric spectrum if $G$ is bipartite. However, there exists a spectrally symmetric signed graph $\Gamma=(G,\sigma)$ such that $G$ is not bipar?tite. In this paper, we focus to characterize the signed graphs with symmetric spectra. Some necessary and (or) sufficient conditions for spectrally symmetric signed graphs are given. Moreover, some methods to construct signed graphs with symmetric spec?tra are found and infinite families of these signed graphs are produced.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a planar graph and let $C$ be a cycle in $G$. Inside of each finite face of $G$, we write down the number of edges of that face which belong to $C$. This is the signature of $C$ in $G$. The notion of a signature arises naturally in the context of Slitherlink puzzles. The signature of a cycle does not always determine it uniquely. We focus on the ambiguity of signatures in the case when $G$ is a rectangular grid of unit square cells. We describe all grids which admit an ambiguous signature. For each such grid, we then determine the greatest possible difference between two cycles with the same signature on it. We also study the possible values of the total number of cycles which fit a given signature. We discuss various related questions as well.

Abstract:Let $X$ be an algebraic variety over the field of real numbers $\mathbb{R}$. We use the signature of a quadratic form to produce "higher" global signatures relating the derived Witt groups of $X$ to the singular cohomology of the real points $X(\mathbb{R})$ with integer coefficients. We also study the global signature ring homomorphism and use the powers of the fundamental ideal in the Witt ring to prove an integral version of a theorem of Raman Parimala and Jean Colliot-Thelene on the mod 2 signature. Furthermore, we obtain an Atiyah-Hirzebruch spectral sequence for the derived Witt groups of $X$ with 2 inverted. Using this spectral sequence, we provide a bound on the ranks of the derived Witt groups of $X$ in terms of the Betti numbers of $X(\mathbb{R})$. We apply our results to answer a question of Max Karoubi on boundedness of torsion in the Witt group of $X$. Throughout the article, the results are proved for a wide class of schemes over an arbitrary base field of characteristic different from 2 using real cohomology in place of singular cohomology.
An algebraic approach to lifts of digraphs

Abstract:We study the relationship between two key concepts in the theory of (di)graphs: the quotient digraph, and the lift $\Gamma^{\alpha}$ of a base (voltage) digraph. These techniques contract or expand a given digraph in order to study its characteristics, or obtain more involved structures. This study is carried out by introducing a quotient-like matrix, with complex polynomial entries, which fully represents $\Gamma^{\alpha}$. In particular, such a matrix gives the quotient matrix of a regular partition of $\Gamma^{\alpha}$, and when the involved group is Abelian, it completely determines the spectrum of $\Gamma^{\alpha}$. As some examples of our techniques, we study some basic properties of the Alegre digraph. In addition we completely characterize the spectrum of a new family of digraphs, which contains the generalized Petersen graphs, and that of the Hoffman-Singleton graph.

Abstract:Consider a finite sequence of independent random permutations, chosen uniformly either among all permutations or among all matchings on n points. We show that, in probability, as n goes to infinity, these permutations viewed as operators on the (n-1) dimensional vector space orthogonal to the vector with all coordinates equal to 1, are asymptotically strongly free. Our proof relies on the development of a matrix version of the non-backtracking operator theory and a refined trace method. As a byproduct, we show that the non-trivial eigenvalues of random n-lifts of a fixed based graphs approximately achieve the Alon-Boppana bound with high probability in the large n limit. This result generalizes Friedman's Theorem stating that with high probability, the Schreier graph generated by a finite number of independent random permutations is close to Ramanujan. Finally, we extend our results to tensor products of random permutation matrices. This extension is especially relevant in the context of quantum expanders.

Token graphs of Cayley graphs as lifts

Abstract:This paper describes a general method for representing $k$-token graphs of Cayley graphs as lifts of voltage graphs. This allows us to construct line graphs of circulant graphs and Johnson graphs as lift graphs on cyclic groups. As an application of the method, we derive the spectra of the considered token graphs. This method can also be applied to dealing with other matrices, such as the Laplacian or the signless Laplacian, and to construct token digraphs of Cayley digraphs.
