Abstract:The Higgs-strahlung process e(+)e(-) -> ZH and pair production process e(+)e(-) -> HH are studied in the framework of the minimal noncommutative (NC) standard model. In particular, the Feynman rules involving all orders of the noncommutative parameter theta are derived using reclusive formation of the Seiberg-Witten map. It is shown that the total cross section and angular distribution can be significantly affected because of space-time noncommutativity when the collision energy exceeds to 1 TeV. It is found that in each process, there is an optimal collision energy (E-oc) for achieving the greatest noncommutative effect, and E-oc varies linearly with the NC scale Lambda(NC). A brief discussion on the process e+e- -> mu(+)mu(-) is also given.

Abstract:The hybrid gauge transformation and its nontrivial phenomenological implications are investigated using the noncommutative gauge theory with the Seiberg-Witten map expanded scenario. Particularly, the e(+)e(-) -> mu(+)mu(-) process is studied with a generalized noncommutative standard model (NCSM) including massive neutrinos and neutrino-photon interaction. In this model, the hybrid gauge transformation in the lepton sector is naturally introduced through the requirement of gauge invariance of the seesaw neutrino mass term. It is shown that in the NCSM without hybrid gauge transformation the noncommutative correction to the scattering amplitude of the e(+)e(-) -> mu(+)mu(-) process appears only as a phase factor, predicting no new physical deviation in the cross section. However, when the hybrid feature is considered, the noncommutative effect appears in the single channel process. The cross section and angular distribution are analyzed in the laboratory frame including Earth's rotation. It is proposed that pair production of muons in the upcoming TeV International Linear Collider (ILC) can provide an ideal opportunity for exploring not only the NC space-time, but also the mathematical structure of the corresponding gauge theory.

Abstract:We consider the Standard Model on a non-commutative space and expand the action in the non-commutativity parameter theta. No new particles are introduced, the structure group is SU(3) x SU(2) x U(1). We derive the leading order action. At zeroth order the action coincides with the ordinary Standard Model. At leading order in theta we find new vertices which are absent in the Standard Model on commutative space-time. The most striking features are couplings between quarks, gluons and electroweak bosons and many new vertices in the charged and neutral currents. We find that parity is violated in non-commutative QCD. The Higgs mechanism can be applied. QED is not deformed in the minimal version of the NCSM to the order considered.

Triple Neutral Gauge Boson Couplings in Noncommutative Standard Model

Abstract:It has been shown recently that the triple neutral gauge boson couplings are not uniquely determined in noncommutative extension of the Standard Model (NCSM). Depending on specific schemes used, the couplings are different and may even be zero. To distinguish different realizations of the NCSM, additional information either from theoretical or experimental considerations is needed. In this Letter we show that these couplings can be uniquely determined from considerations of unification of electroweak and strong interactions. Using SU(5) as the underlying theory and integrating out the heavy degrees of freedom, we obtain unique non-zero new triple γγγ, γγZ, γZZ, ZZZ, γGG, ZGG and GGG couplings at the leading order in the NCSM. We also briefly discuss experimental implications.

Abstract:We have obtained the supersymmetric extension of spectral triple which specify a noncommutative geometry(NCG). We assume that the functional space H constitutes of wave functions of matter fields and their superpartners included in the minimum supersymmetric standard model(MSSM). We introduce the internal fluctuations to the Dirac operator on the manifold as well as on the finite space by elements of the algebra A in the triple. So, we obtain not only the vector supermultiplets which meditate SU(3)xSU(2)xU(1)_Y gauge degrees of freedom but also Higgs supermultiplets which appear in MSSM on the same standpoint. Accoding to the supersymmetric version of the spectral action principle, we calculate the square of the fluctuated total Dirac operator and verify that the Seeley-DeWitt coeffients give the correct action of MSSM. We also verify that the relation between coupling constants of $SU(3)$,$SU(2)$ and $U(1)_Y$ is same as that of SU(5) unification theory.

Abstract:We review the noncommutative approach to the standard model. We start with the introduction if the mathematical concepts necessary for the definition of noncommutative spaces, and manifold in particular. This defines the framework of spectral geometry. This is applied to the standard model of particle interaction, discussing the fermionic and bosonic spectral action. The issues relating to the calculation of the mass of the Higgs are discussed, as well as the role of neutrinos and Wick rotations. Finally, we present the possibility of solving the problem of the Higgs mass by considering a pregeometric grand symmetry.

Abstract:We investigate the theory of the bosonic-fermionic noncommutativity, $[x^{\mu},\theta^{\alpha}] = i \lambda^{\mu \alpha}$, and the Wess-Zumino model deformed by the noncommutativity. Such noncommutativity links well-known space-time noncommutativity to superspace non-anticommutativity. The deformation has the nilpotency. We can explicitly evaluate noncommutative effect in terms of new interactions between component fields. The interaction terms that have Grassmann couplings are induced. The noncommutativity does completely break full $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetry to $ \mathcal{N} = 0 $ theory in Minkowski signature. Similar to the space-time noncommutativity, this theory has higher derivative terms and becomes non-local theory. However this non-locality is milder than the space-time noncommutative field theory. Due to the nilpotent feature of the coupling constants, we find that there are only finite number of Feynman diagrams that give noncommutative corrections at each loop order.

Revisiting Theories with Enhanced Higgs Couplings to Weak Gauge Bosons

Abstract:Based on recent LHC Higgs analyses and in anticipation of future results we revisit theories where Higgs bosons can couple to weak gauge bosons with enhanced strength relative to the Standard Model value. Specifically, we look at the Georgi-Machacek model and its generalizations where higher "spin" representations of SU(2)_L break electroweak symmetry while maintaining custodial SU(2). In these theories, there is not only a Higgs-like boson but partner Higgs scalars transforming under representations of custodial SU(2), leading to a rich phenomenology. These theories serve as a consistent theoretical and experimental framework to explain enhanced couplings to gauge bosons, including fermiophobic Higgses. We focus on the phenomenology of a neutral scalar partner to the Higgs, which is determined once the Higgs couplings are specified. Depending on the parameter space, this partner could have i) enhanced fermion and gauge boson couplings and should be searched for at high mass (> 600 GeV), ii) have suppressed couplings and could be searched for at lower masses, where the Standard Model Higgs has already been ruled out, and iii) have fermiophilic couplings, where it can be searched for in heavy Higgs and top resonance searches. In the first two regions, the partner also has substantial decay rates into a pair of Higgs bosons. We touch briefly on the more model-dependent effects of the nontrivial SU(2)_C multiplets, which have exotic signals, such as a doubly-charged Higgs. We also discuss how the loop induced effects of these scalars tend to reduce the Higgs decay rate to photons, adding an additional uncertainty when extracting the couplings for the Higgs boson.

Abstract:Several interacting models of chiral bosons and gauge fields are investigated on the noncommutative extended Minkowski spacetime which was recently proposed from a new point of view of disposing noncommutativity. The models include the bosonized chiral Schwinger model, the generalized chiral Schwinger model (GCSM) and its gauge invariant formulation. We establish the Lagrangian theories of the models, and then derive the Hamilton's equations in accordance with the Dirac's method and solve the equations of motion, and further analyze the self-duality of the Lagrangian theories in terms of the parent action approach.
Universal Imprints of a Pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone Higgs Boson

Abstract:A large class of models addressing the electroweak naturalness problem postulates the existence of new spontaneously broken global symmetries above the weak scale. The Higgs boson arises as a pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson (PNGB) whose interactions are nonlinear due to the presence of degenerate vacua. We argue that, once the normalization of the PNGB decay constant f is determined, the Higgs nonlinear interactions in the gauge sector are universal in the infrared and independent of the symmetry breaking pattern G/H, even after integrating out heavy composite resonances. We propose a set of "universal relations" in Higgs couplings with electroweak gauge bosons and in triple gauge boson couplings, which are unique predictions of the universal nonlinearity. Experimental measurements of these relations would serve as the litmus test of a PNGB Higgs boson.
New Incorporation of the Strong Interaction in NCG and Standard Model

Abstract:The standard model is reconstructed by new method to incorporate strong interaction into our previous scheme based on the non-commutative geometry. The generation mixing is also taken into account. Our characteristic point is to take the fermion field so as to contain quarks and leptons all together which is almost equal to that of SO(10) grand unified theory(GUT). The space-time $M_4\times Z_2$; Minkowski space multiplied by two point discrete space is prepared to express the left-handed and right-handed fermion fields. The generalized gauge field $A(x,y)$ written in one-differential form extended on $M_4\times Z_2$ is well built to give the correct Dirac Lagrangian for fermion sector. The fermion field is a vector in 24-dimensional space and gauge and Higgs fields are written in $24\times24$ matrices. At the energy of the equal coupling constants for both sheets $y=\pm$ expected to be amount to the energy of GUT scale, we can get $\sin^2\theta_{_{W}}=3/8$ and $m_{_{H}}=\sqrt{2}m_{_{W}}$. In general, the equation $m\ma{H}=(4/\sqrt {3})m\ma{W}\sin\theta\ma{W}$ is followed. Then, it should be noticed that the same result as that of the grand unified theory such as SU(5) or SO(10) GUT is obtained without GUT but with the approach based on the non-commutative geometry and in addition the Higgs mass is related to other physical quantities as stated above.

Abstract:The Hierarchy Problem is arguably the most important guiding principle concerning the extension to high-energy scales of the Standard Model (SM) of Fundamental Interactions. Every scenario for addressing this issue unavoidably predicts new physics in the TeV energy range, which is currently being probed directly by the LHC experimental program. Among the possible solutions to the Hierarchy Problem, the scenario of a composite Higgs boson is a very simple idea and a rather plausible picture has emerged over the years by combining the following ingredients: First, the Higgs must be a (pseudo-) Nambu-Goldstone boson, rather than a generic hadron of the new strong sector. Second, through the so-called 'partial compositeness', SM particles mix with strong sector resonances with suitable quantum numbers, so that they become a linear combination of elementary and composite degrees of freedom. Recently, general descriptions of the Composite Higgs Scenario were developed which successfully capture the relevant features of this theoretical framework in a largely model-independent way. The present book provides a concise and illustrative introduction to the subject for a broad audience of graduate students and non-specialist researchers in the fields of particle, nuclear and gravitational physics.
Working towards a gauge-invariant description of the Higgs model: from local composite operators to spectral density functions

Abstract:We analyze different BRST invariant solutions for the introduction of a mass term in Yang-Mills (YM) theories. First, we analyze the non-local composite gauge-invariant field $A^h_{\mu}(x)$, which can be localized by the Stueckelberg-like field $\xi^a(x)$. This enables us to introduce a mass term in the $SU(N)$ YM model, a feature that has been indicated at a non-perturbative level by both analytical and numerical studies. We also consider the unitary Abelian Higgs model and investigate its spectral functions at one-loop order. This analysis allows to disentangle what is physical and what is not at the level of the elementary particle propagators, in conjunction with the Nielsen identities. We highlight the role of the tadpole graphs and the gauge choices to get sensible results. We also introduce an Abelian Curci-Ferrari action coupled to a scalar field to model a massive photon which, like the non-Abelian Curci-Ferarri model, is left invariant by a modified non-nilpotent BRST symmetry. Finally, the spectral properties of a set of local gauge-invariant composite operators are investigated in the $U(1)$ and $SU(2)$ Higgs model quantized in the 't Hooft $R_{\xi}$ gauge. These operators enable us to give a gauge-invariant description of the spectrum of the theory, thereby surpassing certain incommodities when using the standard elementary fields. The corresponding two-point correlation functions are evaluated at one-loop order and their spectral functions are obtained explicitly. It is shown that the spectral functions of the elementary fields suffer from a strong unphysical dependence from the gauge parameter $\xi$, and can even exhibit positivity violating behaviour. In contrast, the BRST invariant local operators exhibit a well defined positive spectral density.

Abstract:For large masses, the two heavy neutral Higgs bosons are nearly degenerate in many 2-Higgs doublet models, and particularly in supersymmetric models. In such a scenario the mixing between the states can be very large if the theory is CP-noninvariant. We analyze the formalism describing this configuration, and we point to some interesting experimental consequences.

Abstract:In [7-9] and [10] the conjecture is presented that almost-commutative geometries, with respect to sensible physical constraints, allow only the standard model of particle physics and electro-strong models as Yang-Mills-Higgs theories. In this publication a counter example will be given. The corresponding almost-commutative geometry leads to a Yang-Mills-Higgs model which consists of the standard model of particle physics and two new fermions of opposite electro-magnetic charge. This is the second Yang-Mills-Higgs model within noncommutative geometry, after the standard model, which could be compatible with experiments. Combined to a hydrogen-like composite particle these new particles provide a novel dark matter candidate.

Higgs Boson-Mu-Tau Coupling at High and Low Energy Colliders

Abstract:There is no tree-level flavor changing neutral current (FCNC) in the standard model (SM) which contains only one Higgs doublet. If more Higgs doublets are introduced for various reasons, the tree-level FCNC would be inevitable, except that extra symmetry was imposed. Therefore, FCNC processes are an excellent probe for physics beyond the SM (BSM). In this paper, we study the lepton flavor violated decay processes h -> mu tau and tau -> mu gamma induced by the Higgs boson-mu-tau vertex. For tau -> mu gamma its branching ratio is also related to the ht (t) over bar, h tau(+)tau(-), and hW(+)W(-) vertices. We categorize the BSM into two scenarios for the Higgs boson coupling strengths near or away from the SM. For the latter scenario, we take the spontaneously broken two Higgs doublet model (the Lee model) as an example. We consider the constraints by recent data from the LHC and B factories, and we find that the measurements give weak constraints. At LHC run II, h -> mu tau will be confirmed or will have a stricter limit set on its branching ratio. Accordingly, Br(tau -> mu gamma) less than or similar to O (10(-10) - 10(-8)) for general chosen parameters. For the positive case, tau -> mu gamma can be discovered with O(10(10)) tau pair samples at the SuperB factory, the Super tau-charm factory, and the new Z factory. The future measurements for Br(h -> mu tau) and Br(tau -> mu tau) will be used to distinguish these two scenarios or set strict constraints on the correlations among different Higgs couplings.

Abstract:We provide gauge/gravity dual descriptions of the strong coupling sector of composite Higgs models using insights from non-conformal examples of the AdS/CFT correspondence. We calculate particle masses and decay constants for proposed Sp(4) and SU(4) gauge theories, where there is the best lattice data for comparison. Our results compare favorably to lattice studies and go beyond those due to a greater flexibility in choosing the fermion content. That content changes the running dynamics and its choice can lead to sizable changes in the bound state masses. We describe top partners by a dual fermionic field in the bulk. Including suitable higher dimension operators can ensure a top mass consistent with the standard model.

Abstract:We study the possibility of obtaining the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics as an effective theory of a more fundamental one, whose electroweak sector includes two non-universal local $U(1)$ gauge groups, with the chiral anomaly cancellation taking place through an interplay among families. As a result of the spontaneous symmetry breaking, a massive gauge boson $Z'$ arises, which couples differently to the third family of fermions (by assumption, we restrict ourselves to the scenario in which the $Z'$ couples in the same way to the first two families). Two Higgs doublets and one scalar singlet are necessary to generate the SM fermion masses and break the gauge symmetries. We show that in our model, the flavor-changing neutral currents (FCNC) of the Higgs sector are identically zero if each right-handed SM fermion is only coupled with a single Higgs doublet. This result represents a FCNC cancellation mechanism different from the usual procedure in Two-Higgs Doublet Models~(2HDM). The non-universal nature of our solutions requires the presence of three right-handed neutrino fields, one for each family. Our model generates all elements of the Dirac mass matrix for quarks and leptons, which is quite non-trivial for non-universal models. Thus, we can fit all the masses and mixing angles with two scalar doublets. Finally, we show the distribution of solutions for the scalar boson masses in our model by scanning well-motivated intervals for the model parameters. We consider two possibilities for the scalar potential and compare these results with the Higgs-like resonant signals recently reported by the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the LHC. Finally, we also report collider, electroweak, and flavor constraints on the model parameters.

Abstract:If the scalar sector of the Standard Model is non-minimal, one might expect multiple generations of the hypercharge-1/2 scalar doublet analogous to the generational structure of the fermions. In this work, we examine the structure of a Higgs sector consisting of N Higgs doublets (where N \geq 2). It is particularly convenient to work in the so-called charged Higgs basis, in which the neutral Higgs vacuum expectation value resides entirely in the first Higgs doublet, and the charged components of remaining N-1 Higgs doublets are mass-eigenstate fields. We elucidate the interactions of the gauge bosons with the physical Higgs scalars and the Goldstone bosons and show that they are determined by an Nx2N matrix. This matrix depends on (N-1)(2N-1) real parameters that are associated with the mixing of the neutral Higgs fields in the charged Higgs basis. Among these parameters, N-1 are unphysical (and can be removed by rephasing the physical charged Higgs fields), and the remaining 2(N-1)^2 parameters are physical. We also demonstrate a particularly simple form for the cubic interaction and some of the quartic interactions of the Goldstone bosons with the physical Higgs scalars. These results are applied in the derivation of Higgs coupling sum rules and tree-level unitarity bounds that restrict the size of the quartic scalar couplings. In particular, new applications to three Higgs doublet models with an order-4 CP symmetry and with a Z_3 symmetry, respectively, are presented.
