Abstract:This paper is inspired by a seqfan post by Jeremy Gardiner. The post listed nine sequences with similar parities. In this paper I prove that the similarities are not a coincidence but a mathematical fact.

Abstract:Can you decide if there is a coincidence in the numbers counting two different combinatorial objects? For example, can you decide if two regions in $\mathbb{R}^3$ have the same number of domino tilings? There are two versions of the problem, with $2\times 1 \times 1$ and $2\times 2 \times 1$ boxes. We prove that in both cases the coincidence problem is not in the polynomial hierarchy unless the polynomial hierarchy collapses to a finite level. While the conclusions are the same, the proofs are notably different and generalize in different directions. We proceed to explore the coincidence problem for counting independent sets and matchings in graphs, matroid bases, order ideals and linear extensions in posets, permutation patterns, and the Kronecker coefficients. We also make a number of conjectures for counting other combinatorial objects such as plane triangulations, contingency tables, standard Young tableaux, reduced factorizations and the Littlewood--Richardson coefficients.

Abstract:Zhao established a curious congruence, i.e., for any prime p≥3,∑i+j+k=pi,j,k>01ijk≡−2Bp−3(modp). In this note we prove that for any prime p≥3 and positive integer r,∑i+j+k=pri,j,k∈Pp1ijk≡−2pr−1Bp−3(modpr), where Pn denotes the set of positive integers which are prime to n.

Abstract:The Lefschetz number and fixed point index can be thought of as two different descriptions of the same invariant. The Lefschetz number is algebraic and defined using homology. The index is defined more directly from the topology and is a stable homotopy class. Both the Lefschetz number and index admit generalizations to coincidences and the comparison of these invariants retains its central role. In this paper we show that the identification of the Lefschetz number and index using formal properties of the symmetric monoidal trace extends to coincidence invariants. This perspective on the coincidence index and Lefschetz number also suggests difficulties for generalizations to a coincidence Reidemeister trace.

Abstract:We prove that there is a one to one correspondence between the following three sets: idempotent functions on a set of size $n$, complete exceptional sequences of linear radical square zero Nakayama algebras of rank $n$ and rooted labeled forests with $n$ nodes and height of at most one. Therefore, the number of exceptional sequences is given by the sum $\sum\limits^n_{j=1}\binom{n}{j}j^{n-j}$.

Abstract:Recently J. Rivat and A. Sarkozy extended two large families of pseudorandom binary sequences to the case of composite moduli m, where m is the product of two different primes not far apart. In this paper we study the correlation measure of these sequences. Our results show that these sequences are "bad" if either m is "not large" or m is "large" but its prime factors are known.
Congruences modulo powers of $5$ and $7$ for the crank and rank parity functions and related mock theta functions

Abstract:It is well known that Ramanujan conjectured congruences modulo powers of $5$, $7$ and and $11$ for the partition function. These were subsequently proved by Watson (1938) and Atkin (1967). In 2009 Choi, Kang, and Lovejoy proved congruences modulo powers of $5$ for the crank parity function. The generating function for the analogous rank parity function is $f(q)$, the first example of a mock theta function that Ramanujan mentioned in his last letter to Hardy. Recently we proved congruences modulo powers of $5$ for the rank parity function, and here we extend these congruences for powers of $7$. We also show how these congruences imply congruences modulo powers of $5$ and $7$ for the coefficients of the related third order mock theta function $\omega(q)$, using Atkin-Lehner involutions and transformation results of Zwegers. Finally we a prove a family of congruences modulo powers of $7$ for the crank parity function.

In this paper, we study these two zeta functions and related arithmetical functions. We show that [Formula: see text] which is similar to the known identity [Formula: see text] equivalent to the Prime Number Theorem. For [Formula: see text], we prove that [Formula: see text] We also raise a hypothesis on the parities of [Formula: see text] which implies the Riemann Hypothesis.

Abstract:Let ftm = 0111010010001... be the analogue of the Thue-Morse sequence in Fibonacci representation. In this note we show how, using the Walnut theorem-prover, to obtain a measure of its complexity, previously studied by Jamet, Popoli, and Stoll. We strengthen one of their theorems and disprove one of their conjectures.

Abstract:It is conjectured that there is a converging sequence of some generalized Fibonacci ratios, given the difference between consecutive ratios, such as the Golden Ratio, $\varphi^1$, and the next golden ratio $\varphi^2$. Moreover, the graphic depiction of those ratios show some overlap with the quadratic family, and some numerical evidence suggest that everyone of those ratios in the finite set obtained, belong to at least one quadratic family, and finally a proof is presented that the converging sequence of some generalized Fibonacci ratios belong to at least one quadratic family.

Abstract:In his July 1974 Scientific American column, Martin Gardner mentioned the Handbook of Integer Sequences, which then contained 2372 sequences. Today the On-Line Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences (the OEIS) contains 140000 sequences. This paper discusses eight of them, suggested by the theme of the Eighth Gathering For Gardner: they are all infinite, and all 'ateful in one way or another. Each one is connected with an unsolved problem. The sequences are related to: hateful numbers, Angelini's 1995 puzzle, the persistence of a number, Alekseyev's 123 sequence, the curling number conjecture, Quet's prime-generating recurrence, the traveling salesman's problem, and the Riemann Hypothesis.

Abstract:`Terquem's problem' is a name given in the twentieth century to the problem of enumerating certain integer sequences whose entries alternate in parity. In particular, this problem asks for the count of strictly increasing length $m$ sequences of positive integers bounded above by some integer $n$ whose odd-indexed entries are odd and whose even-indexed entries are even. This problem and its generalizations have been well-studied. However, the putative original source for this problem, an 1839 paper by Olry Terquem, is subtly different from the problem that is now attributed to Terquem. In this paper, we highlight this distinction and also make connections between Terquem's `forgotten' problem and the Fibonacci sequence, continuants, Bézout's Lemma, and the extended version of the Euclidean Algorithm.

Abstract:The problem of Hadamard quantum coin measurement in $n$ trials, with arbitrary number of repeated consecutive last states is formulated in terms of Fibonacci sequences for duplicated states, Tribonacci numbers for triplicated states and $N$-Bonacci numbers for arbitrary $N$-plicated states. The probability formulas for arbitrary position of repeated states are derived in terms of Lucas and Fibonacci numbers. For generic qubit coin, the formulas are expressed by Fibonacci and more general, $N$-Bonacci polynomials in qubit probabilities. The generating function for probabilities, the Golden Ratio limit of these probabilities and Shannon entropy for corresponding states are determined. By generalized Born rule and universality of $n$-qubit measurement gate, we formulate problem in terms of generic $n$-qubit states and construct projection operators in Hilbert space, constrained on the Fibonacci tree of the states. The results are generalized to qutrit and qudit coins, described by generalized Fibonacci-$N$-Bonacci sequences.

Abstract:In this article, we study the pair correlation of Farey fractions by proving that the limiting pair correlation function of the sequence of Farey fractions with square-free denominators exists and provide an explicit formula for the limiting pair correlation function.

Abstract:We prove near-optimal upper bounds for the odd moments of the distribution of coprime residues in short intervals, confirming a conjecture of Montgomery and Vaughan. As an application we prove near-optimal upper bounds for the average of the refined singular series in the Hardy-Littlewood conjectures concerning the number of prime $k$-tuples for $k$ odd. The main new ingredient is a near-optimal upper bound for the number of solutions to $\sum_{1\leq i\leq k}\frac{a_i}{q_i}\in \mathbb{Z}$ when $k$ is odd, with $(a_i,q_i)=1$ and restrictions on the size of the numerators and denominators, that is of independent interest.
