Abstract:We study equivariant modules over $GL(V)$ over the polynomial ring $R = Sym V$. We introduce for every partition $\lambda$ the elementary equivariant module $M_{\lambda}$. Then we prove that any finitely generated equivariant module admits a fltration with associated graded being the direct sum of modules of only two kinds: either $M_{\lambda}$ or truncations of $M_{\lambda}$. We show that each $M_{\lambda}$ has a linear resolution and describe also the resolution of its truncations.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is about the structure and decomposition of equivariant modules of GL(V) over the polynomial ring R = SymV. Specifically, the author introduced the concept of a class of "elementary equivariant modules" \(M_\lambda\) and proved that any finitely - generated equivariant module has a special filtration, and its associated graded module is composed of the direct sum of two types of modules: either \(M_\lambda\) or truncations of \(M_\lambda\). In addition, the author also studied the linear resolutions of these modules. ### Summary of the core problems in the paper: 1. **Define elementary equivariant modules**: For each partition \(\lambda\), an elementary equivariant module \(M_\lambda\) is defined. 2. **Module decomposition**: It is proved that any finitely - generated equivariant module can be decomposed through a filtration such that its associated graded module is the direct sum composed of \(M_\lambda\) or its truncations. 3. **Linear resolutions**: It is shown that each \(M_\lambda\) has a linear resolution and the resolutions of its truncations are described. ### Markdown representation of formulas: - The elementary equivariant module \(M_\lambda\) corresponds to the partition \(\lambda\). - The filtration structure of the equivariant module can be represented as: \[0\subset F_0\subset F_1\subset\cdots\subset F_t = P_\lambda\] - The associated graded module is given by the following formula: \[\bigoplus_{i\in\mathbb{Z}}\left(\bigoplus_{\beta\in S(\lambda, i)}M_\beta\right)\] ### Key theorems: - **Theorem 6.6**: Any finitely - generated equivariant module \(N\) has a filtration, and its associated graded module is the direct sum of \(M_\lambda\) or its truncations. - **Theorem 7.3**: The resolution of \(M_\lambda\) is linear, and the Tor module can be calculated by the following formula: \[\text{Tor}_i^R(M_\lambda, k)\cong\bigoplus_{\eta\in B}S_\eta\] where the set \(B\) is all representations \(\eta\) obtained from \(\lambda\) by adding \(i\) boxes according to the Pieri rule, but adding boxes in the first row is not allowed. By solving these problems, the paper provides a profound understanding of the structure of equivariant modules and lays the foundation for further research.
