Abstract:In this paper, we prove the following automatic adjoint theorem: For any sequence spaces E ( X ) E(X) and F ( Y ) F(Y) , if E ( X ) E(X) has the signed-weak gliding hump property and A A is an infinite matrix which transforms E ( X ) E(X) into F ( Y ) F(Y) , then the transpose matrix A ′ A’ of A A transforms F ( Y ) β F(Y)^\beta into E ( X ) β E(X)^\beta , and for any x ∈ E ( X ) x\in E(X) and T ∈ F ( Y ) β T\in F(Y)^\beta , [ A x , T ] = [ x , A ′ T ] [Ax,T]=[x,A’T] . That is, the adjoint operator of A A automatically exists and is just the transpose matrix A ′ A’ of A A . From the theorem we obtain a class of infinite matrix topological algebras ( λ , μ ) (\lambda ,\mu ) , and prove also a λ \lambda -multiplier convergence theorem of Orlicz-Pettis type. The theorem improves substantially the famous Stiles’ Orlicz-Pettis theorem.

Abstract:We review some of the significant generalizations and applications of the celebrated Douglas theorem on the equivalence of factorization, range inclusion, and majorization of operators. We then apply it to find a characterization of the positivity of $2\times 2$ block matrices of operators in Hilbert spaces and finally describe the nature of such block matrices and provide several ways for showing their positivity.

Abstract:In this paper, we give the Gershgorin's theorem of the 2 × 2 unbounded block operator matrix with bounded off-diagonal entries, and use the spectrum and the numerical range of diagonal entries to investigatethe spectral inclusion properties of some unbounded block operator matrices. In particular, for unbounded block operator matrices with symmetric (anti-symmetric) corners, we give more exact localization of spectrum by the quadratic numerical range and the Gershgorin's theorem.

Abstract:The main purpose of this paper is, in the general setting of the adjointable operators on Hilbert $C^*$-modules, to develop two new tools that can be applied to deal with the positive solutions of certain operator equations, the operator norm as well as the numerical radius, respectively. Among other things, the positivity of a $2\times 2$ block operator matrix is clarified without any preconditions on its entries, and a generalized version of the mixed Schwarz inequality with a parameter is derived. Numerical examples are provided to illustrate the non-triviality of this newly obtained inequality.

Abstract:In this paper the properties of right invertible row operators, i.e., of 1X2 surjective operator matrices are studied. This investigation is based on a specific space decomposition. Using this decomposition, we characterize the invertibility of a 2X2 operator matrix. As an application, the invertibility of Hamiltonian operator matrices is investigated.

Abstract:We present new additive properties of the g-Drazin inverse of a linear operator on a Banach space. The g-Drazin invertibility of certain block operator matrices on a Banach space is thereby established. These results extend many known results, e.g., by Yang and Liu [J. Comput. Applied Math. 235 , 1412–1417 (2011)] and Dopazo and Martinez-Serrano [Linear Algebra Appl. 432 , 1896–1904 (2010)].

Abstract:The pentablock, denoted as $\cP,$ is defined as follows: $$\cP= \left\{ (a_{21}, {\rm tr}(A), {\rm det}(A)) : A = [a_{ij}]_{2 \times 2} \text{ with } \|A\|<1 \right\}.$$ It originated from the work of Agler--Lykova--Young in connection with a particular case of the $\mu$-synthesis problem. It is a non-convex, polynomially convex, $\mathbb{C}$-convex, star-like about the origin, and inhomogeneous domain. This paper deals with operator theory on the pentablock. We study pentablock unitaries and isometries, providing an algebraic characterization of pentablock isometries. En route, we provide the Wold-type decomposition for pentablock isometries, which consists of three parts: the unitary part, the pure part, and a new component. We define this novel component as the quasi-pentablock unitary and provide a functional model for it. Additionally, a model for a class of pure pentablock isometries has been found, along with some examples. Furthermore, a representation resembling the Beurling-Lax-Halmos paradigm has been presented for the invariant subspaces of pentablock pure isometries.

Abstract:This paper studies block matrices A = [A(ij)] is an element of C-km (x) (km), where every block A(ij) is an element of C-k (x) (k) for i, j is an element of < m > = {1, 2, . . ., m} and A(ii) is non-Hermitian positive definite for all i is an element of < m >. Such a matrix is called an extended H-matrix if its block comparison matrix is a generalized M-matrix. Matrices of this type are an extension of generalized M-matrices proposed by Elsner and Mehrmann [L. Elsner and V. Mehrmann. Convergence of block iterative methods for linear systems arising in the numerical solution of Euler equations. Numer. Math., 59: 541-559, 1991.] and generalized H-matrices by Nabben [R. Nabben. On a class of matrices which arise in the numerical solution of Euler equations. Numer. Math., 63:411-431, 1992.]. This paper also discusses some properties including positive definiteness and invariance under block Gaussian elimination of a subclass of extended H-matrices, especially, convergence of some block iterative methods for linear systems with such a subclass of extended H-matrices. Furthermore, the incomplete LDU-factorization of these matrices is investigated and applied to establish some convergent results on some iterative methods. Finally, this paper generalizes theory on generalized H-matrices and answers the open problem proposed by R. Nabben.

Abstract:This paper presents a full rank factorization of a 2×2 block matrix without any restriction concerning the group inverse. Applying this factorization, we obtain an explicit representation of the group inverse in terms of four individual blocks of the partitioned matrix without certain restriction. We also derive some important coincidence theorems, including the expressions of the group inverse with Banachiewicz-Schur forms.

Hambardzumyan, Hatami and Hatami defined blocky rank and showed that it is connected to communication complexity and operator theory. Abstract:In this paper we introduce a particular class of matrices. We study the concept of a matrix to be balanced. We study some properties of this concept in the context of matrix operations. We examine the behaviour of various matrix statistics in this setting. The crux will be to understanding the determinants and the eigen-values of balanced matrices. It turns out that there does exist a direct communication among the leading entry, the trace, determinants and, hence, the eigen-values of these matrices of order $2\times 2$. These matrices have an interesting property that enables us to predict their quadratic forms, even without knowing their entries but given their spectrum.
