Abstract:We study and classify Artin-Schelter regular algebras of dimension five with two generators under an additional Z(2)-grading by Hilbert driven Grobner basis computations. All the algebras we obtained are strongly noetherian, Auslander regular, and Cohen-Macaulay. One of the results provides an answer to Floystad-Vatne's question in the context of Z(2)-grading. Our results also achieve a connection between Lyndon words and Artin-Schelter regular algebras. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Let K be a field of characteristic 0 and L be a G-graded Lie PI-algebra, where G is a finite group. We define the graded Gelfand-Kirillov dimension of L. Then we measure the growth of the Z_n-graded polynomial identities of the Lie algebra of n x n traceless matrices sl_n(K) giving an exact value of its Z_n-graded Gelfand-Kirillov dimension.

Abstract:Let $p$ be a prime number, $F$ a totally real number field unramified at places above $p$ and $D$ a quaternion algebra of center $F$ split at places above $p$ and at no more than one infinite place. Let $v$ be a fixed place of $F$ above $p$ and $\overline{r} : {\rm Gal}(\overline F/F)\rightarrow \mathrm{GL}_2(\overline{\mathbb{F}}_p)$ an irreducible modular continuous Galois representation which, at the place $v$, is semisimple and sufficiently generic (and satisfies some weak genericity conditions at a few other finite places). We prove that many of the admissible smooth representations of $\mathrm{GL}_2(F_v)$ over $\overline{\mathbb{F}}_p$ associated to $\overline{r}$ in the corresponding Hecke-eigenspaces of the mod $p$ cohomology have Gelfand--Kirillov dimension $[F_v:\mathbb{Q}]$, as well as several related results.

Abstract:Let $p$ be a prime number and $F/F^+$ a CM extension of a totally real field such that every place of $F^+$ above $p$ is unramified and inert in $F$. We fix a finite place $v$ of $F^+$ above $p$, and let $\overline{r}: \textrm{Gal}(\overline{F^+}/F^+) \longrightarrow {}^C\textrm{U}_{1,1}(\overline{\mathbb{F}}_p)$ be a modular $L$-parameter valued in the $C$-group of a rank 2 unitary group associated to $F/F^+$. We assume $\overline{r}$ is semisimple and sufficiently generic at $v$. Using recent results of Breuil--Herzig--Hu--Morra--Schraen along with our previous work, we prove that certain admissible smooth $\overline{\mathbb{F}}_p$-representations of the $p$-adic unitary group $\textrm{U}_{1,1}(F^+_v)$ associated to $\overline{r}$ in spaces of mod $p$ automorphic forms have Gelfand--Kirillov dimension $[F^+_v:\mathbb{Q}_p]$.

Abstract:Let $K$ be a field of characteristic 0, and let $E$ be the infinite-dimensional Grassmann algebra over $K$. We consider $E$ as a $\mathbb{Z}_2$-graded algebra, where the grading is given by the vector subspaces $E_0$ and $E_1$, consisting of monomials of even and odd lengths, respectively. Thus, if $A = A_0 \oplus A_1$ is an associative $\mathbb{Z}_2$-graded algebra, we can consider the $\mathbb{Z}_2$-graded algebra $A \hat{\otimes} E = (A_0 \otimes E_0) \oplus (A_1 \otimes E_1)$. In case both $E$ and $A$ are endowed with superinvolutions, we can define a $\mathbb{Z}_2$-graded involution on $A \hat{\otimes} E$ induced by the respective superinvolutions. In this paper, we consider the $\mathbb{Z}_2$-graded matrix algebras $M_{1,1}(K)$, $UT_{1,1}(K)$, and $UT_{(0,1,0)}(K)$ endowed with superinvolutions. We shall provide a description of the polynomial identities and the cocharacter sequences of $M_{1,1}(K)\hat{\otimes} E$, $UT_{1,1}(K)\hat{\otimes} E$, and $UT_{(0,1,0)}(K)\hat{\otimes} E$, considering these resulting algebras as $\mathbb{Z}_2$-graded algebras with graded involution.

Affine Grassmannians for G_2

Abstract:We study affine Grassmannians for the exceptional group of type G_2. This group can be given as automorphisms of octonion algebras (or para-octonion algebras). By using this automorphism group, we consider all maximal parahoric subgroups in G_2, and give a description of affine Grassmannians for G_2 as functors classifying suitable orders in a fixed space.

Abstract:We investigate the Grassmann envelope (of finite rank) of a finite-dimensional $\mathbb{Z}_2$-graded algebra. As a result, we describe the polynomial identities of $G_1(\mathcal{A})$, where $G_1$ stands for the Grassmann algebra with $1$ generator, and $\mathcal{A}$ is a $\mathbb{Z}_2$-graded-simple associative algebra. We also classify the conditions under which two associative $\mathbb{Z}_2$-graded-simple algebras share the same set of superpolynomial identities, i.e., the polynomial identities of its Grassmann envelope (in particular, of finite rank). Moreover, we extend the construction of the Grassmann envelope for the context of $\Omega$-algebras and prove some of its properties. Lastly, we give a description of $\mathbb{Z}_2$-graded-simple $\Omega$-algebras.

Abstract:Differential difference algebras are generalizations of polynomial algebras, quantum planes, and Ore extensions of automorphism type and of derivation type. In this paper, we investigate the Gelfand-Kirillov dimension of a finitely generated module over a differential difference algebra through a computational method: Gröbner-Shirshov basis method. We develop the Gröbner-Shirshov basis theory of differential difference algebras, and of finitely generated modules over differential difference algebras, respectively. Then, via Gröbner-Shirshov bases, we give algorithms for computing the Gelfand-Kirillov dimensions of cyclic modules and finitely generated modules over differential difference algebras.

Abstract:We introduce totally nonnegative Grassmannians over finite fields where an element of a finite field is nonnegative if it is a square of an element of the finite field. Explicit point counts are given in some special cases where we find new interpretations of sequences in the On-Line Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences (OEIS). We compare and contrast the theory of totally nonnegative Grassmannians over a finite field with the traditional case of the field of real numbers.

Abstract:Let $\Bbbk$ be a field of characteristic zero and let $\mathbb{W}_n = \operatorname{Der}(\Bbbk[x_1,\cdots,x_n])$ be the $n^{\text{th}}$ general Cartan type Lie algebra. In this paper, we study Lie subalgebras $L$ of $\mathbb{W}_n$ of maximal Gelfand--Kirillov (GK) dimension, that is, with $\operatorname{GKdim}(L) = n$. For $n = 1$, we completely classify such $L$, proving a conjecture of the second author. As a corollary, we obtain a new proof that $\mathbb{W}_1$ satisfies the Dixmier conjecture, in other words, $\operatorname{End}(\mathbb{W}_1) \setminus \{0\} = \operatorname{Aut}(\mathbb{W}_1)$, a result first shown by Du. For arbitrary $n$, we show that if $L$ is a GK-dimension $n$ subalgebra of $\mathbb{W}_n$, then $U(L)$ is not (left or right) noetherian.

Abstract:Let k be an algebraically closed field. In 2007, D.-M. Lu, Q.-S. Wu, and J. J. Zhang asked the following question: Besides the group algebras kZ, kD and infinite dimensional prime Taft algebras, are there other noetherian a. ne prime regular Hopf algebras of GK-dimension 1? In this paper, we give a new one. Another problem posed by Lu, Wu, and Zhang can also be resolved by this example. Assuming H is a noetherian a. ne prime regular Hopf algebra of GK-dimension 1, we show that grH := circle plus s >= 0 J(iq)(s) /J(iq)(s+1), as a Hopf algebra, is isomorphic to an infinite dimensional prime Taft algebra. This gives a characterization of infinite dimensional prime Taft algebras.
Topological complexity of oriented Grassmann manifolds

Abstract:We study the $\mathbb Z_2$-zero-divisor cup-length, denoted by $\operatorname{zcl}_{\mathbb Z_2}(\widetilde G_{n,3})$, of the Grassmann manifolds $\widetilde G_{n,3}$ of oriented $3$-dimensional vector subspaces in $\mathbb R^n$. Some lower and upper bounds for this invariant are obtained for all integers $n\ge6$. For infinitely many of them the exact value of $\operatorname{zcl}_{\mathbb Z_2}(\widetilde G_{n,3})$ is computed, and in the rest of the cases these bounds differ by 1. We thus establish lower bounds for the topological complexity of Grassmannians $\widetilde G_{n,3}$.

Mixed volumes of zonoids and the absolute value of the Grassmannian

Abstract:Zonoids are Hausdorff limits of zonotopes, while zonotopes are convex polytopes defined as the Minkowski sums of finitely many segments. We present a combinatorial framework that links the study of mixed volumes of zonoids (a topic that has applications in algebraic combinatorics) with the study of the absolute value of the Grassmannian, defined as the image of the Grassmannian under the coordinate-wise absolute value map. We use polyhedral computations to derive new families of inequalities for n zonoids in dimension d, when (n,d)=(6,2) and (6,3). Unlike the classical geometric inequalities, originating from the Brunn-Minkowski and Aleksandrov-Fenchel inequalities, the inequalities we produce have the special feature of being Minkowski linear in each of the n zonoids they involve.

Abstract:For $n$ a power of two, we give a complete description of the cohomology algebra $H^*(\widetilde G_{n,3};\mathbb Z_2)$ of the Grassmann manifold $\widetilde G_{n,3}$ of oriented $3$-planes in $\mathbb R^n$. We do this by finding a reduced Gröbner basis for an ideal closely related to this cohomology algebra. Using this Gröbner basis we also present an additive basis for $H^*(\widetilde G_{n,3};\mathbb Z_2)$.

Abstract:Let F/F_q be an algebraic function field of genus g defined over a finite field F_q. We obtain new results on the existence, the number and the density of dimension zero divisors of degree g-k in F where k is a positive integer. In particular, for q=2,3 we prove that there always exists a dimension zero divisor of degree \gamma-1 where \gamma is the q-rank of F. We also give a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a dimension zero divisor of degree g-k for a hyperelliptic field F in terms of its Zeta function.

Abstract:Let F be a field of characteristic zero and let m ≥ 2 be an integer. In this paper, we prove that if a group grading on U T m ( F ) admits a graded involution then this grading is a coarsening of a Z ⌊ m 2 ⌋ -grading on U T m ( F ) and the graded involution is equivalent to the reflection or symplectic involution on U T m ( F ) , this grading is called the finest grading on U T m ( F ) . Furthermore, if m ≤ 4 the algebra U T m ( F ) with the finest grading satisfies no non-trivial monomial identities. For the finest grading, a finite basis for the ( Z ⌊ m 2 ⌋ , ⁎ ) -identities is exhibited with the reflection and symplectic involutions and the asymptotic growth of the ( Z ⌊ m 2 ⌋ , ⁎ ) -codimensions is determined. As a consequence, we prove that for any G-grading on U T m ( F ) and any graded involution the ( G , ⁎ ) -exponent is m. Finally, we study the algebra U T 3 ( F ) . For this algebra, there are, up to equivalence, two non-trivial gradings that admit a graded involution: the canonical Z -grading and the Z 2 -grading induced by ( 0 , 1 , 0 ) . We determine a basis for the ( Z 2 , ⁎ ) -identities and we compute the codimension sequence for the ( Z 2 , ⁎ ) -graded identities for U T 3 ( F ) .
