Abstract:Multiple zeta values associated with function fields with varying constant fields are dealt with simultaneously. Thakur introduced multiple zeta values in the arithmetic of positive characteristic function fields, and the definition depends on the field of constants of the chosen function field. Using Papanikolas' theory on the relationship between the $t$-motivic Galois group and the periods of a pre-$t$-motive, we show that there exist no algebraic relations which relate multiple zeta values with different constants field.

Abstract:In studying the depth filtration on multiple zeta values, difficulties quickly arise due to a disparity between it and the coradical filtration. In particular, there are additional relations in the depth graded algebra coming from period polynomials of cusp forms for $SL_2(\mathbb{Z})$. In contrast, a simple combinatorial filtration, the block filtration is known to agree with the coradical filtration, and so there is no similar defect in the associated graded. However, via an explicit evaluation of $\zeta(2,\ldots,2,4,2,\ldots,2)$ as a polynomial in double zeta values, we derive these period polynomial relations as a consequence of an intrinsic symmetry of block graded multiple zeta values in block degree 2. In deriving this evaluation, we find a Galois descent of certain alternating double zeta values to classical double zeta values, which we then apply to give an evaluation of the multiple $t$ values $t(2\ell,2k)$ in terms of classical double zeta values.

Abstract:In this thesis, following F. Brownu0027s point of view, we look at the Hopf algebra structure of motivic cyclotomic multiple zeta values, which are motivic periods of the fundamental groupoid of $mathbb{P}^{1} diagdown lbrace 0, mu_{N}, infty rbrace $. By application of a surjective textit{period} map (which, under Grothendiecku0027s period conjecture, is an isomorphism), we deduce results (such as generating families, identities, etc.) on cyclotomic multiple zeta values, which are complex numbers. The coaction of this Hopf algebra (explicitly given by a combinatorial formula from A. Goncharov and F. Brownu0027s works) is the dual of the action of a so-called textit{motivic} Galois group on these specific motivic periods. This entire study was actually motivated by the hope of a Galois theory for periods, which should extend the usual Galois theory for algebraic numbers.

Abstract:This work is a study of $p$-adic multiple zeta values at roots of unity ($p$MZV$\mu_{N}$'s), the $p$-adic periods of the crystalline pro-unipotent fundamental groupoid of $(\mathbb{P}^{1} - \{0,\mu_{N},\infty\})/ \mathbb{F}_{q}$. The main tool is new objects which we call $p$-adic pro-unipotent harmonic actions. In this part IV we define and study $p$-adic analogues of some elementary complex analytic functions which interpolate multiple zeta values at roots of unity such as the multiple zeta functions. The indices of $p$MZV$\mu_{N}$'s involve sequences of positive integers ; in this IV-1, by considering an operation which we call localization (inverting certain integration operators) in the pro-unipotent fundamental groupoid of $\mathbb{P}^{1} - \{0,\mu_{N},\infty\}$, and by using $p$-adic pro-unipotent harmonic actions, we extend the definition of $p$MZV$\mu_{N}$'s to indices for which these integers can be negative, and we study these generalized $p$MZV$\mu_{N}$'s.

Abstract:We introduce a new Lie-algebraic approach to explicitly construct the motivic coaction and single-valued map of multiple polylogarithms in any number of variables. In both cases, the appearance of multiple zeta values is controlled by conjugating generating series of polylogarithms with Lie-algebra generators associated with odd zeta values. Our reformulation of earlier constructions of coactions and single-valued polylogarithms preserves choices of fibration bases, exposes the correlation between multiple zeta values of different depths and paves the way for generalizations beyond genus zero.

Abstract:In this paper, we give a natural construction of mixed Tate motives whose periods are a class of iterated integrals which include the multiple polylogarithm functions. Given such an iterated integral, we construct two divisors A and B in the moduli spaces M¯0,n of n-pointed stable curves of genus 0, and prove that the cohomology of the pair (M¯0,n−A,B−B∩A) is a framed mixed Tate motive whose period is that integral. It generalizes the results of A. Goncharov and Yu. Manin for multiple ζ-values. Then we apply our construction to the dilogarithm and calculate the period matrix which turns out to be same with the canonical one of Deligne.

Abstract:Abstract By using the method of iterated integral representations of series, we establish some explicit relationships between multiple zeta values and integrals of logarithmic functions. As applications of these relations, we show that multiple zeta values of the form $$\begin{array}{} \zeta ( {\bar 1,{{\left\{ 1 \right\}}_{m - 1}},\bar 1,{{\left\{ 1 \right\}}_{k - 1}}} ),\qquad (k,m\in \mathbb{N}) \end{array} $$ for m = 1 or k = 1, and $$\begin{array}{} \zeta ( {\bar 1,{{\left\{ 1 \right\}}_{m - 1}},p,{{\left\{ 1 \right\}}_{k - 1}}}),\qquad (k,m\in\mathbb{N}) \end{array} $$ for p = 1 and 2, satisfy certain recurrence relations which allow us to write them in terms of zeta values, polylogarithms and ln 2. Furthermore, we also obtain reductions for certain multiple polylogarithmic values at $\begin{array}{} \frac {1}{2} \end{array} $ .

Finite Multiple Mixed Values

Abstract:In recent years, a variety of variants of multiple zeta values (MZVs) have been defined and studied. One way to produce these variants is to restrict the indices in the definition of MZVs to some fixed parity pattern, which include Hoffman's multiple $t$-values, Kaneko and Tsumura's multiple $T$-values, and Xu and the author's multiple $S$-values. We have also considered the so-called multiple mixed values by allowing all possible parity patterns and studied a few important relations among these values. In this paper, we will turn to their finite analogs and their symmetric forms, motivated by a deep conjecture of Kaneko and Zagier which relates the finite MZVs and symmetric MZVs, and a generalized version of this conjecture by the author to the Euler sum (i.e., level two) setting. We will present a few important relations among these values such as the stuffle, reversal, and linear shuffle relations. We will also compute explicitly the (conjecturally smallest) generating set in weight one and two cases. In the appendix we tabulate some dimension computation for various sub-spaces of the finite multiple mixed values and propose a conjecture.

Abstract:In this paper we define a continuous version of multiple zeta functions. They can be analytically continued to meromorphic functions on $\mathbb{C}^r$ with only simple poles at some special hyperplanes. The evaluations of these functions at positive integers (continuous multiple zeta values) satisfy the shuffle product. We give a detailed analysis about the depth structure of continuous multiple zeta values. There are also sum formulas for continuous multiple zeta values. Lastly we calculate some special continuous multiple zeta values in terms of special values of multiple polylogarithms.

Abstract:We introduce an iterated integral version of (generalized) log-sine integrals (iterated log-sine integrals) and prove a relation between a multiple polylogarithm and iterated log-sine integrals. We also give a new method for obtaining relations among multiple zeta values, which uses iterated log-sine integrals, and give alternative proofs of several known results related to multiple zeta values and log-sine integrals.

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is two-fold. First, we consider the classical Mordell--Tornheim zeta values and their alternating version. It is well-known that these values can be expressed as rational linear combinations of multiple zeta values (MZVs) and the alternating MZVs, respectively. We show that, however, the spaces generated by these values over the rational numbers are in general much smaller than the MZV space and the alternating MZV space, respectively, which disproves a conjecture of Bachmann, Takeyama and Tasaka. Second, we study supercongruences of some finite sums of multiple integer variables. This kind of congruences is a variation of the so called finite multiple zeta values when the moduli are primes instead of prime powers. In general, these objects can be transformed to finite analogs of the Mordell--Tornheim sums which can be reduced to multiple harmonic sums. This approach not only simplifies the proof of a few previous results but also generalizes some of them. At the end of the paper, we also provide a conjecture supported by strong numerical evidence.

Abstract:Abstract We study open and closed string amplitudes at tree-level in string perturbation theory using the methods of single-valued integration which were developed in the prequel to this paper (Brown and Dupont in Single-valued integration and double copy, 2020). Using dihedral coordinates on the moduli spaces of curves of genus zero with marked points, we define a canonical regularisation of both open and closed string perturbation amplitudes at tree level, and deduce that they admit a Laurent expansion in Mandelstam variables whose coefficients are multiple zeta values (resp. single-valued multiple zeta values). Furthermore, we prove the existence of a motivic Laurent expansion whose image under the period map is the open string expansion, and whose image under the single-valued period map is the closed string expansion. This proves the recent conjecture of Stieberger that closed string amplitudes are the single-valued projections of (motivic lifts of) open string amplitudes. Finally, applying a variant of the single-valued formalism for cohomology with coefficients yields the KLT formula expressing closed string amplitudes as quadratic expressions in open string amplitudes.

Abstract:We study some classical identities for multiple zeta values and show that they still hold for zeta functions built on the zeros of an arbitrary function. We introduce the complementary zeta function of a system, which naturally occurs when lifting identities for multiple zeta values to identities for quasisymmetric functions.

Abstract:In this article we shall survey some recent progress on the study of Apéry-like sums which are multiple variable generalizations of the two sums Apéry used in his famous proof of the irrationality of $\zeta(2)$ and $\zeta(3)$. We only allow the central binomial coefficients to appear in these infinite sums but they can appear either on the numerator or on the denominator. Special values of both types are closely related to the colored multiple zeta values and have played important roles in the calculations of the $\eps$-expansion of multiloop Feynman diagrams. We will summarize several different approaches to computing these sums and prove a few conjectural identities of Z.-W. Sun as corollaries along the way.

Abstract:Let (X,D) be a projective log pair over the ring of integers of a number field such that the log canonical line bundle K_(X,D) or its dual -K_(X,D) is relatively ample. We introduce a canonical height of K_(X,D) (and -K(X,D)) which is finite precisely when the complexifications of K_(X,D) (and -K(X,D)) are K-semistable. When the complexifications are K-polystable, the canonical height is the height of K_(X,D) (and -K(X,D)) wrt any volume-normalized Kähler-Einstein metric on the complexifications of K_(X,D) (and -K(X,D)) The canonical height is shown to have a number of useful variational properties. Moreover, it may be expressed as a limit of periods on the N-fold products of the complexifications of X, as N tends to infinity. In particular, using this limit formula, the canonical height for the arithmetic log surfaces (P_1,D) over the integers, where D has at most three components, is computed explicitly in terms of the Hurwitz zeta function and its derivative at s=-1. Combining this explicit formula with previous height formulas for quaternionic Shimura curves yields a procedure for extracting information about the canonical integral models of some Shimura curves, such as wild ramification. Furthermore, explicit formulas for the canonical height of twisted Fermat curves are obtained, implying explicit Parshin type bounds for the Arakelov metric.

Deformation quantization generates all multiple zeta values

Abstract:Banks--Panzer--Pym have shown that the volume integrals appearing in Kontsevich's deformation quantization formula always evaluate to integer-linear combinations of multiple zeta values (MZVs). We prove a sort of converse, which they conjectured in their work, namely that with the logarithmic propagator: (1) the coefficients associated to the graphs appearing at order $\hbar^n$ in the quantization formula generate the Q-vector space of weight-$n$ MZVs, and (2) the set of all coefficients generates the Z-module of MZVs. In order to prove this result, we develop a new technique for integrating Kontsevich graphs using polylogarithms and apply it to an infinite subset of Kontsevich graphs. Then, using the binary string representation of MZVs and the Lyndon word decomposition of binary strings, we show that this subset of graphs generates all MZVs.
