Abstract:Dimitrov and Fioresi introduced an object that they call a generalized root system. This is a finite set of vectors in a euclidean space satisfying certain compatibilities between angles and sums and differences of elements. They conjecture that every generalized root system is equivalent to one associated to a restriction of a Weyl arrangement. In this note we prove the conjecture and provide a complete classification of generalized root systems up to equivalence.

Abstract:In this paper we consider those involutions $\theta$ of a finite-dimensional Kac-Moody Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak g$, with associated decomposition $\mathfrak g=\mathfrak k\oplus\mathfrak p$, for which a Cartan subspace $\mathfrak a$ in $\mathfrak p_{\bar 0}$ is self-centralizing in $\mathfrak p$. For such $\theta$ the restriction map $C_\theta$ from $\mathfrak p$ to $\mathfrak a$ is injective on the algebra $P(\mathfrak p)^{\mathfrak k}$ of $\mathfrak k$-invariant polynomials on $\mathfrak p$. There are five infinite families and five exceptional cases of such involutions, and for each case we explicitly determine the structure of $P(\mathfrak p)^{\mathfrak k}$ by giving a complete set of generators for the image of $C_\theta$. We also determine precisely when the restriction map $R_\theta$ from $P(\mathfrak g)^{\mathfrak g}$ to $P(\mathfrak p)^{\mathfrak k}$ is surjective. Finally we introduce the notion of a generalized restricted root system, and show that in the present setting the $\mathfrak a$-roots $\Delta(\mathfrak a,\mathfrak g)$ always form such a system.

Abstract:We introduce a class of graphs with coloured edges to encode subsystems of the classical root systems, which in particular classify them up to equivalence. We further use the graphs to describe root-kernel intersections, as well as restrictions of root (sub)systems on such intersections, generalising the regular part of a Cartan subalgebra. We also consider a slight variation to encode the hyperplane arrangements only, showing there is a unique noncrystallographic arrangement that arises. Finally, a variation of the main definition leads to elementary classifications of closed and Levi root subsystems.

Abstract:The class of root systems, called elliptic root systems, were introduced in 1985 by K. Saito, for his studies on a normal surface singularity which contains a regular elliptic curve in its minimal resolution. He also classified such root systems when they admit a reduced affine quotient, as root system. In this note, we provide the classification of elliptic root systems that admit a non-reduced affine quotient, thus complete the classification of such root systems.

Abstract:We introduce a notion of a root groupoid as a replacement of the notion of Weyl group for (Kac-Moody) Lie superalgebras. The objects of the root groupoid classify certain root data, the arrows are defined by generators and relations. As an abstract groupoid the root groupoid has many connected components and we show that to some of them one can associate an interesting family of Lie superalgebras which we call root superalgebras. We classify root superalgebras satisfying some additional assumptions. To each root groupoid component we associate a graph (called skeleton) generalizing the Cayley graph of the Weyl group. We establish the Coxeter property of the skeleton generalizing in this way the fact that the Weyl group of a Kac-Moody Lie algebra is Coxeter.

Abstract:We study the Localization game on locally finite graphs trees, where each of the countably many vertices have finite degree. In contrast to the finite case, we construct a locally finite tree with localization number $n$ for any choice of positive integer $n$. Our examples have uncountably many ends, and we show that this is necessary by proving that locally finite trees with finitely or countably many ends have localization number at most 2. Finally, as is the case for finite graphs, we prove that any locally finite graph contains a subdivision where one cop can capture the robber.

Abstract:We introduce a notion of "local stability in permutations" for finitely generated groups. If a group is sofic and locally stable in our sense, then it is also locally embeddable into finite groups (LEF). Our notion is weaker than the "permutation stability" introduced by Glebsky-Rivera and Arzhantseva-Paunescu, which allows one to upgrade soficity to residual finiteness. We prove a necessary and sufficient condition for an amenable group to be locally permutation stable, in terms of invariant random subgroups (IRSs), inspired by a similar criterion for permutation stability due to Becker, Lubotzky and Thom. We apply our criterion to prove that derived subgroups of topological full groups of Cantor minimal subshifts are locally stable, using Zheng's classification of IRSs for these groups. This last result provides continuum-many groups which are locally stable, but not stable.

Abstract:Let F be a local net of von Neumann algebras in four spacetime dimensions satisfying certain natural structural assumptions. We prove that if F has trivial superselection structure then every covariant, Haag-dual subsystem B is the fixed point net under a compact group action on one component in a suitable tensor product decomposition of F. Then we discuss some application of our result, including free field models and certain theories with at most countably many sectors.

Abstract:We study subsets in possibly degenerate symplectic vector spaces over finite fields, which are stable under a given Coxeter/Weyl reflection group. These symplectic root systems provide crucial combinatorical data to classify finite-dimensional Nichols algebras for nilpotent groups G over the complex numbers [Len13a], where the symplectic form is given by the group's commutator map. For example, the degree of degeneracy of the symplectic root system determines the size of the center of G. In this article we classify symplectic root systems over the finite field F_2, where symplectic just means isotropic. We prove that every Dynkin diagram admits, up to symplectic isomorphisms, a unique minimal symplectic root system over F_2 and thus requires a specific degree of degeneracy of the symplectic vector space. Any non-minimal symplectic root system turns out to be a quotient of a minimal one by a universal property. As examples and for further applications we explicitly construct all symplectic root systems for Cartan matrices resp. Dynkin diagrams of type ADE.

Maximal root subsystems of affine reflection systems and duality

Abstract:Any maximal root subsystem of a finite crystallographic reduced root system is either a closed root subsystem or its dual is a closed root subsystem in the dual root system. In this article, we classify the maximal root subsystems of an affine reflection system (reduced and non-reduced) and prove that this result holds in much more generality for reduced affine reflection systems. Moreover, we explicitly determine when a maximal root subsystem is a maximal closed root subsystem. Using our classification, at the end, we characterize the maximal root systems of affine reflection systems with nullity less than or equal to $2$ using Hermite normal forms; especially for Saito's EARS of nullity $2.$ This in turn classifies the maximal subgroups of the Weyl group of an affine reflection system that are generated by reflections.

Abstract:For each punctured curve over a finite field, we construct local systems which do not come from a family of abelian varieties. We do so by proving a criterion which must be satisfied by local systems which do come from abelian varieties, inspired by an analogous Hodge theoretic criterion in characteristic zero. Our tools include $F$-isocrystals and some $p$-adic Hodge theory.

Abstract:The class of those (torsion-free) $SI^*$-groups which are not locally soluble, has the cardinality of the continuum. Moreover, these groups are not only pairwise non-isomorphic, but also they generate pairwise different varieties of groups. Thus, the set of varieties generated by not locally soluble $SI^*$-groups is of the same cardinality as the set of all varieties of groups. It is possible to localize a variety of groups which contains all groups and varieties constructed. The examples constructed here continue the well known example of a not locally soluble $SI^*$-group built by Hall and by Kovács and Neumann.
