Abstract:The KKM theorem, due to Knaster, Kuratowski, and Mazurkiewicz in 1929, is a fundamental result in fixed-point theory, which has seen numerous extensions and applications. In this paper we survey old and recent generalizations of the KKM theorem and their applications in the areas of piercing numbers, mass partition, fair division, and matching theory. We also give a few new results utilizing KKM-type theorems, and discuss related open problems.

Abstract:The existence of lower dimensional KAM tori is shown for a class of nearly integrable Hamiltonian systems where the second Melnikov's conditions are eliminated. As a consequence, it is proved that there exist many invariant tori and thus quasi-periodic solutions for nonlinear wave equations, Schr\"odinger equations and other equations of higher spatial dimension.

Abstract:In this paper we reformulate a formal KAM theorem for Hamiltonian systems with parameters under Bruno-Rüssmann condition. The proof is based on KAM iteration and the key is to adjust the parameters for small divisors after KAM iteration instead of in each KAM step. By this formal KAM theorem we can follow some well known KAM-type results for hyperbolic tori. Moreover, it can also be applied to the persistence of invariant tori with prescribed frequencies.

Abstract:In this paper we resolve a conjecture of Kresch and Tamvakis. Our result is the following. Theorem: For any positive integer $D$ and any integers $i,j$ $(0\leq i,j \leq D)$, the absolute value of the following hypergeometric series is at most 1: \begin{equation*} {_4F_3} \left[ \begin{array}{c} -i, \; i+1, \; -j, \; j+1 \\ 1, \; D+2, \; -D \end{array} ; 1 \right]. \end{equation*} To prove this theorem, we use the Biedenharn-Elliott identity, the theory of Leonard pairs, and the Perron-Frobenius theorem.

Abstract:Dumortier and Roussarie proposed a conjecture in their paper (2009, Discrete Con. Dyn. Sys., 2,723-781): For any \begin{document}$ q\in {\mathbb{N}} $\end{document} , the Abelian integrals \begin{document}$ J_{2j+1}(h) = \int_{\gamma_h}x^{2j-1}\,\mathrm dy $\end{document} , \begin{document}$ j = 0, 1, 2, \cdots, q $\end{document} , form a strict Chebyshev system on intervals \begin{document}$ h\in (0, \frac{1}{2}] $\end{document} , where \begin{document}$ \gamma_h = \{(x, y)| \mathrm e^{-2y}(y+\frac{1}{2}-x^2) = h\} $\end{document} . If this conjecture holds, then they obtain the precise upper bound of the number of limit cycles that appear near a slow-fast Hopf point of any codimension. In the present paper we develop a method to estimate the number of zeros of Abelian integrals and prove this conjecture.

Abstract:Let $x\geqslant 3$, for $1\leqslant n \leqslant x$ an integer, let $\omega(n)$ be its number of distinct prime factors. We show that, among the values $n\leqslant x$ with $\omega(n)=k$ where $1\leqslant k \ll \log_2 x$, $\omega(n-1)$ satisfies an Erdős-Kac type theorem around $2\log_2 x$, so in large deviation regime, when weighted by $2^{\omega(n-1)}$. This sharpens a result of Gorodetsky and Grimmelt with a quantitative and quasi-optimal error term. The proof of the main theorem is based on the characteristic function method and uses recent progress on Titchmarsh's divisor problem.

Abstract:For reversible systems of infinite dimension we prove an infinitely dimensional KAM theorem with an application to the network of weakly coupled oscillators of friction. The KAM theorem shows that there are many invariant tori of infinite dimension, and thus many almost periodic solutions, for the reversible systems.

Abstract:In this paper we improve estimates of Jarnik and Apfelbeck for uniform Diophantine exponents of transposed systems of linear forms and generalize to the case of an arbitrary system the estimates of Laurent and Bugeaud for individual exponents. The method proposed also gives a better constant in Mahler's transference theorem.

Abstract:Given a monotonically decreasing $\psi: \mathbb{N} \to [0,\infty)$, Khintchine's Theorem provides an efficient tool to decide whether, for almost every $\alpha \in \mathbb{R}$, there are infinitely many $(p,q) \in \mathbb{Z}^2$ such that $\left\lvert \alpha - \frac{p}{q}\right\rvert \leq \frac{\psi(q)}{q}$. The recent result of Koukoulopoulos and Maynard provides an elegant way of removing monotonicity when only counting reduced fractions. Gallagher showed a multiplicative higher-dimensional generalization to Khintchine's Theorem, again assuming monotonicity. In this article, we prove the following Duffin-Schaeffer-type result for multiplicative approximations: For any $k\geq 1$, any function $\psi: \mathbb{N} \to [0,1/2]$ (not necessarily monotonic) and almost every $\alpha \in \mathbb{R}^k$, there exist infinitely many $q$ such that $\prod\limits_{i=1}^k \left\lvert \alpha_i - \frac{p_i}{q}\right\rvert \leq \frac{\psi(q)}{q^k}, p_1,\ldots,p_k$ all coprime to $q$, if and only if \[\sum\limits_{q \in \mathbb{N}} \psi(q) \left(\frac{\varphi(q)}{q} \right)^k\log \left(\frac{q}{\varphi(q)\psi(q)}\right)^{k-1} = \infty.\] This settles a conjecture of Beresnevich, Haynes, and Velani.

A second order approach to the Kato square root problem on open sets

Abstract:We give a proof for the Kato square root problem on suitable open sets and subject to pure Dirichlet boundary conditions. In contrast to earlier work, our proof uses only second-order techniques and is in the spirit of the proof given by Egert--Haller--Monniaux--Tolksdorf in the scope of the 27th international internet seminar for $\Omega = \mathbb{R}^n$. In contrast to the usual proofs based on the first-order framework by Axelsson--Keith--McIntosh, the proof becomes substantially shorter and technically less demanding.

Abstract:We give a new and self-contained proof for an alternative form of Tunnell’s theorem on congruent numbers. The proof relies on more knowledge on quadratic forms with less calculation than Tunnell’s proof. The approach is based on our observation that the equality $$\#\{(x,y,z,w) \in \mathbb {Z}^4|p=2x^2+3y^2+3z^2+4w^2+2yz\}=\#\{(x,y,z) \in \mathbb {Z}^3|p^2=2x^2+4y^2+9z^2-4yz\}$$ holds for any odd prime p. The same method is applied to the elliptic curves $$E_n:~y^2=x^3+n^2x$$ and $$E_{n}:~~y^2=x(x-n)(x+3n)(E_{-n}:~~y^2=x(x+n)(x-3n))$$ ( $$\pi /3$$ ( $$2\pi /3$$ )-congruent elliptic curves), where we list, without proof, the analogous results. A series of criteria for congruent numbers are given. In particular, for a prime p, we show that if $$p\equiv 1\pmod {8}$$ is a congruent number then the 8-rank of $$K_2O_{\mathbb {Q}(\sqrt{p})}$$ equals one; if $$p\equiv 1\pmod {16}$$ with $$h(-p)\not \equiv h(-2p)\pmod {16}$$ then 2p is not a congruent number; and if $$p\equiv 1, q\equiv 3\pmod {8}$$ are two primes with $$h(-pq)\not \equiv h(-p)\pmod {8}$$ then pq is not a congruent number.
A Generalized Lévy-Khintchine Theorem

Abstract:The famous Lévy-Khintchine theorem is a beautiful limiting law for the denominators of the convergents of the continued fraction expansion of a real number. In a recent breakthrough, Cheung and Chevallier (Annales scientifiques de l'ENS, 2024) extended this theorem to higher dimensions. In this paper, we consider multiple generalizations of the definition of the best approximates of a matrix and prove analogues of the Lévy-Khintchine theorem for all these generalizations. A special case of our theorem answers a question posed by Cheung and Chevallier about Lévy-Khintchine type theorems for arbitrary norms. Another notable instance of our results resolves a conjecture of Yitwah Cheung. While our findings are new for higher dimensions, even in the one-dimensional case our work is a significant improvement over available results. Notably, we extend the results of Cheung and Chevallier by proving their theorems for any Birkhoff generic point and by permitting the best approximates to satisfy additional geometric and arithmetic conditions. Moreover, our main theorem, from which the above results follow, also extends the recent work of Shapira and Weiss.

An analogue of Mahler's transference theorem for multiplicative Diophantine approximation

Abstract:Khintchine's and Dyson's transference theorems can be very easily deduced from Mahler's transference theorem. In the multiplicative setting an obstacle appears, which does not allow deducing the multiplicative transference theorem immediately from Mahler's theorem. Some extra considerations are required, for instance, induction by the dimension. In this paper we propose an analogue of Mahler's theorem which implies the multiplicative transference theorem immediately.

Abstract:We prove the Kuniba-Nakanishi-Suzuki (KNS) conjecture concerning the quantum dimension solution of the $Q$-system of type $D_r$ obtained by a certain specialization of classical characters of the Kirillov-Reshetikhin modules. To this end, we use various symmetries of quantum dimensions. As a result, we obtain an explicit formula for the positive solution of the level $k$ restricted $Q$-system of type $D_r$ which plays an important role in dilogarithm identities for conformal field theories.

Abstract:We establish an abstract infinite dimensional KAM theorem dealing with unbounded perturbation vector-field, which could be applied to a large class of Hamiltonian PDEs containing the derivative ∂ x in the perturbation. Especially, in this range of application lie a class of derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equations with Dirichlet boundary conditions and perturbed Benjamin-Ono equation with periodic boundary conditions, so KAM tori and thus quasi-periodic solutions are obtained for them.
