Abstract:Two-loop renormalization group equations in gauge theories with multiple U(1) groups are presented. Instead of normalizing the Abelian gauge fields in canonical forms, we retain kinetic-mixing terms and treat the mixing coefficients as free parameters. The β- and γ-functions are then obtained in a straightforward manner.
Refined renormalization group improvement for thermally resummed effective potential

Abstract:We newly develop a renormalization group (RG) improvement for thermally resummed effective potentials. In this method, $\beta$-functions are consistently defined in resummed perturbation theories, so that order-by-order RG invariance is not spoiled after thermal resummation. With this improvement, scale dependences of phase transition quantities such as a critical temperature, which are known to be notoriously large at the one-loop order, are greatly reduced compared to calculations with the conventional $\overline{\text{MS}}$ scheme. By taking advantage of the RG invariance, we also devise a resummation method that can incorporate potentially harmful large logarithmic terms and temperature-dependent power corrections in a generic form. We point out that a resummed one-loop effective potential refined by the method can give results that agree with those obtained by resummed two-loop effective potentials within errors.

Abstract:The study of the effective potential for non-renormalisable scalar SO(N) symmetric theories leads to recurrence relations for the coefficients of the leading logarithms. These relations can be transformed into generalised renormalization-group (RG) equation which can be analyzed in detail. In some special cases this equation can be solved exactly.

Abstract:The non-perturbative Wegner-Houghton renormalization group is analyzed by the local potential approximation in O(N) scalar theories in d-dimensions $(3\leq d\leq 4)$. The leading critical exponents \nu are calculated in order to investigate the effectiveness of the local potential approximation by comparing them with the other non-perturbative methods. We show analytically that the local potential approximation gives the exact exponents up to $O(\epsilon )$ in \epsilon-expansion and the leading in 1/N-expansion. We claim that this approximation offers fairly accurate results in the whole range of the parameter space of N and d. It is a great advantage of our method that no diverging expansions appear in the procedure.

Partial Renormalization of Quasiparticle Interactions

Abstract:Nonlocal effective interactions are inherent to non-relativistic quantum many-body systems, but their systematic resummation poses a significant challenge known as the ``vertex problem" in many-body perturbation theory. We introduce a renormalization scheme based on a projection-based renormalization condition that selectively resums the most essential nonlocal contributions to the effective interaction vertex, avoiding the computational complexity of the full vertex function. This enables us to derive a renormalized Feynman diagrammatic series with large parameters canceled by counter-diagrams, efficiently generated using a perturbative expansion of the parquet equations and computed using a diagrammatic Monte Carlo algorithm. Applying our approach to a 3D Yukawa Fermi liquid, we demonstrate that the renormalized perturbation theory remains predictive even in the strongly correlated regime and uncover significant sign cancellations between different channels contributing to the scattering amplitude. Our work establishes a novel framework for investigating strong correlations in quantum many-body systems, offering a systematic approach to explore nonlocal theories for challenging systems like the electron liquid in material science.

Abstract:Effective potential for scalar $\lambda\phi^4$ theory is obtained using the exact renormalization group method which includes both the usual one-loop contribution as well as the dominant higher loop effects. Our numerical calculation indicates a breakdown of naive one-loop result for sufficiently large renormalized coupling constant.

Abstract:The nonperturbative renormalization group has been considered as a solid framework to investigate fixed point and critical exponents for matrix and tensor models, expected to correspond with the so-called double scaling limit. In this paper, we focus on matrix models and address the question of the compatibility between the approximations used to solve the exact renormalization group equation and the modified Ward identities coming from the regulator. We show in particular that standard local potential approximation strongly violates the Ward identities, especially in the vicinity of the interacting fixed point. Extending the theory space including derivative couplings, we recover an interacting fixed point with a critical exponent not so far from the exact result, but with a nonzero value for derivative couplings, evoking a strong dependence concerning the regulator. Finally, we consider a modified regulator, allowing to keep the flow not so far from the ultralocal region and recover the results of the literature up to a slight improvement.

On the renormalization of non-polynomial field theories

Abstract:A class of scalar models with non-polynomial interaction, which naturally admits an analytical resummation of the series of tadpole diagrams is studied in perturbation theory. In particular, we focus on a model containing only one renormalizable coupling that appear as a multiplicative coefficient of the squared field. A renormalization group analysis of the Green functions of the model shows that these are only approximated solutions of the flow equations, with errors proportional to powers of the coupling, therefore smaller in the region of weak coupling. The final output of the perturbative analysis is that the renormalized model is non-interacting with finite mass and vanishing vertices or, in an effective theory limited by an ultraviolet cut-off, the vertices are suppressed by powers of the inverse cut-off. The relation with some non-polynomial interactions derived long ago, as solutions of the linearized functional renormalization group flow equations, is also discussed.

Perspective on properties of renormalization schemes at high loops

Abstract:We report on recent work on a class of renormalization schemes in QCD, termed the MOMt schemes. None of the renormalization group functions of the eight QCD MOMt schemes involve even zetas to five loops. A new scheme is introduced for scalar $\phi^3$ theory in six dimensions where the full Laurent series in the regularizing parameter of the Green's function is absorbed into the renormalization constants. Designated as the MaxSbar scheme it is equivalent to the MOMt scheme in the critical dimension.

Renormalization-Group Improved Resummation of Super-Leading Logarithms

Abstract:A new strategy is presented for systematically treating super-leading logarithmic contributions including higher-order Glauber exchanges for non-global LHC observables in renormalization-group (RG) improved perturbation theory. This represents an important improvement over previous approaches, as it allows for the consistent inclusion of the scale dependence of the strong coupling, thereby providing more reliable estimates of the scale uncertainties in theoretical predictions. The key idea is to rearrange the relevant RG evolution operator in such a way that all double-logarithmic corrections are exponentiated from the outset. This forms the starting point for the first resummation of super-leading logarithms at leading order in RG-improved perturbation theory for arbitrary $2\to M$ scattering processes. Moreover, the asymptotic scaling of subleading logarithmic corrections from higher-order Glauber exchanges is determined, demonstrating their parametric suppression.

Abstract:We study $d$-dimensional scalar field theory in the Local Potential Approximation of the functional renormalization group. Sturm-Liouville methods allow the eigenoperator equation to be cast as a Schrodinger-type equation. Combining solutions in the large field limit with the Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin approximation, we solve analytically for the scaling dimension $d_n$ of high dimension potential-type operators $\mathcal{O}_n(\varphi)$ around a non-trivial fixed point. We find that $d_n = n(d-d_\varphi)$ to leading order in $n$ as $n \to \infty$, where $d_\varphi=\frac{1}{2}(d-2+\eta)$ is the scaling dimension of the field, $\varphi$, and determine the power-law growth of the subleading correction. For $O(N)$ invariant scalar field theory, the scaling dimension is just double this, for all fixed $N\geq0$ and additionally for $N=-2,-4,\ldots \,.$ These results are universal, independent of the choice of cutoff function which we keep general throughout, subject only to some weak constraints.

Abstract:Renormalization group method is one of the most powerful tool to obtain approximate solutions to differential equations. We apply the renormalization group method to Hamiltonian systems whose integrable parts linearly depend on action variables. We show that the renormalization group method gives the same approximate solutions as canonical perturbation theory up to the second order of a small parameter with action-angle coordinates.
Renormalization of the Yukawa and Quartic Couplings in $\mathcal{N} = 1$ Supersymmetric QCD

Abstract:In this work we perform calculations in order to determine the renormalization factors and the mixing coefficients of the Yukawa and the quartic couplings in $\mathcal{N} = 1$ Supersymmetric QCD. The Yukawa couplings describe the interactions between gluino, quark and squark fields whereas the quartic couplings describe four-squark interactions. We discretize the action on a Euclidean lattice using the Wilson formulation for the gluino, quark and gluon fields; for squark fields (scalar fields) we employ naïve discretization. At the quantum level Yukawa and quartic interactions suffer from mixing with other operators which have the same transformation properties. Exploiting parity and charge conjugation symmetries of the Supersymmetric QCD action, we reduce the allowed mixing patterns. We compute, perturbatively to one-loop and to the lowest order in the lattice spacing, the relevant three-point Green's functions so as to fine tune the Yukawa couplings and the relevant four-point Green's functions to fine tune the quartic couplings. We use both dimensional and lattice regularizations as required for implementing the Modified Minimal Subtraction scheme ($\overline{\rm MS}$).

Abstract:The asymptotic behaviour of cubic field theories is investigated in the Regge limit using the techniques of environmentally friendly renormalization, environmentally friendly in the present context meaning asymmetric in its momentum dependence. In particular we consider the crossover between large and small energies at fixed momentum transfer for a model scalar theory of the type phi^2 psi. The asymptotic forms of the crossover scaling functions are exhibited for all two particle scattering processes in this channel to one loop in a renormalization group improved perturbation theory.

Abstract:Multiparticle production in (2+1) dimensions is investigated. We show that in a small region around the threshold the perturbation theory becomes unapplicable due to infrared divergencies in a class of Feynman graphs with rescattering in final state. We develop a technique based on renormalization group for summing up leading logarithms and apply it to the $\phi^4$ models with and without symmetry breaking and to the $O(N)$ $\phi^4$ theory.

Abstract:The renormalization of the effective field theories (EFTs) in many-body systems is the most pressing and challenging problem in modern nuclear ab initio calculation. For general non-relativistic EFTs, we prove that the renormalization group (RG) invariance can be achieved if and only if all single-particle momenta are regulated with a universal cutoff \Lambda. For a numerical demonstration, we construct a series of N^{2}LO chiral forces with \Lambda varying from 250 MeV to 400 MeV. With all low energy constants fixed in two- and three-nucleon systems, we reproduce the experimental binding energies of ^{4}He and ^{16}O nearly independently of \Lambda. In contrast, all recent nuclear EFT constructions regulate the relative momenta for Galilean invariance, thus inherently break the RG invariance. This explains the unpleasantly strong cutoff-dependences observed in recent ab initio calculations. Our method can also be used to build RG-invariant EFTs with non-perturbative interactions.
