Abstract:arXiv is an e-print repository of papers in physics, computer science, and biology, amongst others. viXra is a newer repository of e-prints on similar topics. Scienceography is the study of the writing of science. In this work we perform a scienceographic comparison of a selection of papers from the physics section of each archive. We provide the first study of the viXra archive and describe key differences on how science is written by these communities.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
This paper attempts to explore the differences in writing scientific papers among different academic communities by comparing and analyzing the papers in two physics preprint repositories, arXiv and viXra. Specifically, the authors selected 20 papers in the physics category from each of these two archives and conducted a detailed comparative study from four aspects: author information, publication and citation status, writing indicators, and references. The main goal of the study was to identify whether there were specific indicators that could distinguish whether a paper originated from arXiv or viXra. The specific research questions of the paper are as follows: - Are there certain indicators that can identify whether a paper is from arXiv or viXra? (For example, whether the author is affiliated with a university or equivalent institution, whether the paper contains theorems or lemmas, whether it has been published in a journal, etc.) Through these studies, the authors hope to reveal the differences in writing styles and contents of the papers in the two archives and provide insights for further understanding how different academic communities write scientific papers.
