Abstract:We present an overview of a research program for the excited nucleon states in Excited Baryon Analysis Center (EBAC) at Jefferson Lab. Current status of our analysis of the meson production reactions based on the unitary dynamical coupled-channels model is summarized, and the N* pole positions extracted from the constructed scattering amplitudes are presented. Our plans for future developments are also discussed.

Abstract:Exclusive electroproduction reactions provide an access to the structure of excited baryons. To extract electroproduction multipoles encoding this information, the Jülich-Bonn-Washington (JBW) analysis framework is extended to the analysis of differential cross sections in $K\Lambda$ electroproduction. This update enlarges the scope of previous coupled-channel analyses of pions and eta mesons, with photoproduction reactions as boundary condition in all analyzed electroproduction reactions. Polarization observables are predicted and compared to recent CLAS data. The comparison shows the relevance of these data to pin down baryon properties.

Abstract:We present the dynamical origin of the P11 nucleon resonances resulting from a dynamical coupled-channels (DCC) analysis of meson production reactions off a nucleon target, which is conducted at Excited Baryon Analysis Center (EBAC) of Jefferson Lab. Two resonance poles are found in the energy region where the Roper resonance P11(1440) was identified. Furthermore, the two resonance poles and the next higher resonance pole corresponding to P11(1710) are found to originate from a single bare state.

Abstract:We develop a dynamical coupled-channels model of K^- p reactions, aiming at extracting the parameters associated with hyperon resonances and providing the elementary antikaon-nucleon scattering amplitudes that can be used for investigating various phenomena in the strangeness sector such as the production of hypernuclei from kaon-nucleus reactions. The model consists of (a) meson-baryon (MB) potentials v_{M'B',MB} derived from the phenomenological SU(3) Lagrangian, and (b) vertex interactions Gamma_{MB,Y*} for describing the decays of the bare excited hyperon states (Y*) into MB states. The model is defined in a channel space spanned by the two-body barK N, pi Sigma, pi Lambda, eta Lambda, and K Xi states and also the three-body pi pi Lambda and pi barK N states that have the resonant pi Sigma* and barK* N components, respectively. The resulting coupled-channels scattering equations satisfy the multichannel unitarity conditions and account for the dynamical effects arising from the off-shell rescattering processes. The model parameters are determined by fitting the available data of the unpolarized and polarized observables of the K^- p --> barK N, pi Sigma, pi Lambda, eta Lambda, K Xi reactions in the energy region from the threshold to invariant mass W=2.1 GeV. Two models with equally good chi^2 fits to the data have been constructed. The partial-wave amplitudes obtained from the constructed models are compared with the results from a recent partial-wave analysis by the Kent State University group. We discuss the differences between these three analysis results. Our results at energies near the threshold suggest that the higher partial waves should be treated on the same footing as the S wave if one wants to understand the nature of Lambda(1405)1/2^- using the data below the barK N threshold, as will be provided by the J-PARC E31 experiment.
The reaction $πN \to ωN$ in a dynamical coupled-channel approach

Abstract:This talk is on a refined investigation on light flavor meson-baryon scatterings, using a dynamical coupled-channel approach, i.e. the Jülich-Bonn model. The previous channel space of $\pi N$, $\pi \Delta$, $\sigma N$, $\rho N$, $\eta N$, $K \Lambda$ and $K \Sigma$ is extended by adding the $\omega N$ final state. The spectra of $N^*$ and $\Delta$ resonances are extracted, based on the result of a global fit to a worldwide collection of data, in the energy region from the $\pi N$ threshold to center-of-mass energy $z=2.3$ GeV (approximately $300$ parameters against $9000$ data points). A negative value of the $\omega N$ elastic spin-averaged scattering length has been extracted.

Abstract:FCC-ee, the lepton version of the Future Circular Collider (FCC), is a 100 Km future machine under study to be built at CERN. It acquires two experiments with a highest beam energy of 182.5 GeV. FCC-ee aims to operate at four different energies, with different luminosities to fulfil physics requirements. Beam-beam effects at such a high energy/luminosity machine are very challenging and require a deep understanding, especially in the presence of x-y coupling sources. Beam-beam effects include the beamstrahlung process, which limits the beam lifetime at high energies, as well as dynamic effects at the Interaction point (IP) which include changes in the beta functions and emittances. In this report, we will define the beam-beam effects and their behaviours in the FCC-ee highest energy lattice after introducing x-y coupling in the ring.

Abstract:Atomic nuclei are composite systems, and they may be dynamically excited during nuclear reactions. Such excitations are not only relevant to inelastic scattering but they also affect other reaction processes such as elastic scattering and fusion. The coupled-channels approach is a framework which can describe these reaction processes in a unified manner. It expands the total wave function of the system in terms of the ground and excited states of the colliding nuclei, and solves the coupled Shrödinger equations to obtain the $S$-matrix, from which several cross sections can be constructed. This approach has been a standard tool to analyze experimental data for nuclear reactions. In this paper, we review the present status and the recent developments of the coupled-channels approach. This includes the microscopic coupled-channels method and its application to cluster physics, the continuum discretized coupled-channels (CDCC) method for breakup reactions, the semi-microscopic approach to heavy-ion subbarrier fusion reactions, the channel coupling effects on nuclear astrophysics and syntheses of superheavy elements, and inclusive breakup and incomplete fusion reactions of weakly-bound nuclei.

Abstract:The application scope of the analytic continuation in the coupling constant (ACCC) can be extended to the exchange parameters of the effective nucleon-nucleon interaction in microscopic cluster model. Based on such exchange parameter dependent ACCC (abbreviated as EPD-ACCC), we study the Be system in the framework of microscopic cluster model. The resonant states of are obtained through EPD-ACCC. Meanwhile, the complex scaling method (CSM) is applied as a comparison. A good agreement between these two theoretical approaches is obtained. This work demonstrate a reliable method EPD-ACCC for estimating the multi-cluster resonances in light hypernuclei.

Abstract:A coupled-channel approach is applied to the charged tetraquark state Tcc+ recently discovered by the LHCb Collaboration. The parameters of the interaction are fixed by a fit to the observed line shape in the three-body D0D0π+ channel. Special attention is paid to the three-body dynamics in the Tcc+ due to the finite life time of the D*. An approach to the Tcc+ is argued to be self-consistent only if both manifestations of the three-body dynamics, the pion exchange between the D and D* mesons and the finite D* width, are taken into account simultaneously to ensure that three-body unitarity is preserved. This is especially important to precisely extract the pole position in the complex energy plane whose imaginary part is very sensitive to the details of the coupled-channel scheme employed. The D0D0 and D0D+ invariant mass distributions, predicted based on this analysis, are in good agreement with the LHCb data. The low-energy expansion of the D*D scattering amplitude is performed and the low-energy constants (the scattering length and effective range) are extracted. The compositeness parameter of the Tcc+ is found to be close to unity, which implies that the Tcc+ is a hadronic molecule generated by the interactions in the D*+D0 and D*0D+ channels. Employing heavy-quark spin symmetry, an isoscalar D*D* molecular partner of the Tcc+ with JP=1+ is predicted under the assumption that the DD*-D*D* coupled-channel effects can be neglected.

Abstract:Nucleon transfer reactions have played a fundamental role in understanding the single-particle components, shell structure and collective properties of atomic nuclei. The conventional distorted wave Born approximation (DWBA) envisioned the nucleon transfer reaction as a one-step process, which proceeds directly from the ground state of the target nucleus to a state of the residual nucleus. The coupled channels Born approximation (CCBA) and coupled reaction channels (CRC) theories evolved because a number of nucleon transfer reaction cross sections could not be reconciled within the DWBA. These coupled channels models revealed that, in addition to the "one-step" process of the DWBA, "multi-step" nucleon transfer processes involving accessary pathways can participate in populating the final nuclear state. In the CCBA, the auxiliary pathways involved inelastic excitations of the target and/or residual nucleus, whereas, in the CRC, the pathways included sequential nucleon transfer passing through nuclear states of an intermediate partition. Coherent addition of contributions from one-step and multi-step nucleon transfer processes resulted in dramatic alterations in reaction cross sections, which were experimentally confirmed. The CCBA and CRC linked the structure of the nuclei participating in a reaction to modalities of nucleon transfer arising during the relative motion between the interacting ions. These complementary theories inexorably changed physicists' interpretations of nucleon transfer reactions and, in doing so, heralded in the new field of direct heavy-ion reactions.

Coupled-channel analysis of the near-threshold $e^+e^-\to N\bar{N}$ cross sections

Abstract:The possible existence of nucleon-antinucleon bound states has been studied for decades. We investigate the $e^+e^-\to p\bar{p}$ and $e^+e^-\to n\bar{n}$ cross sections in the nonrelativistic effective field theory framework. The proton-antiproton and neutron-antineutron coupled-channel final state interactions are considered and found responsible for near-threshold enhancements. Both the proton-neutron mass difference and the Coulomb interaction between $p$ and $\bar{p}$ are considered, and the $N\bar{N}$ strong interactions are taken into account through a short-distance optical potential. By fitting the low energy constants in the amplitudes to the data for the near-threshold $e^+e^-\to N\bar{N}$ cross sections from the BESIII and SND Collaborations, a $N\bar{N}$ quasi-bound state is found just above the $p\bar{p}$ threshold, and another $N\bar{N}$ pole is found on the unphysical Riemann sheet, farther away from the threshold. The constructed coupled-channel amplitude with Coulomb effects also offers a framework that can be used directly in experimental analyses on fine structures near the $N\bar{N}$ thresholds.

Transfer/Breakup Channel Couplings in Sub-barrier Fusion Reactions

Abstract:With the recent availability of state-of-the-art radioactive ion beams, there has been a renew interest in the investigation of nuclear reactions with heavy ions near the Coulomb barrier. The role of inelastic and transfer channel couplings in fusion reactions induced by stable heavy ions can be revisited. Detailed analysis of recent experimental fusion cross sections by using standard coupled-channel calculations is first discussed. Multi-neutron transfer effects are introduced in the fusion process below the Coulomb barrier by analyzing 32S+90,96Zr as benchmark reactions. The enhancement of fusion cross sections for 32S+96Zr is well reproduced at sub-barrier energies by NTFus code calculations including the coupling of the neutrontransfer channels following the Zagrebaev semi-classical model. Similar effects for 40Ca+90Zr and 40Ca+96Zr fusion excitation functions are found. The breakup coupling in both the elastic scattering and in the fusion process induced by weakly bound stable projectiles is also shown to be crucial. In the second part of this work, full coupled-channel calculations of the fusion excitation functions are performed by using the breakup coupling for the more neutron-rich reaction and for the more weakly bound projectiles. We clearly demonstrate that Continuum-Discretized Coupled-Channel calculations are capable to reproduce the fusion enhancement from the breakup coupling in 6Li+59Co.

Abstract:Disoriented Chiral Condensates (DCC) have been predicted to form in high energy heavy ion collisions where the approximate chiral symmetry of QCD has been restored. This leads to large imbalances in the production of charged to neutral pions. Sophisticated analysis methods are being developed to disentangle DCC events out of the large background of events with conventionally produced particles. We present a short review of current analysis methods and future prospects.

Abstract:We extend our previous study of the interactions of $\bar{D}^{(*)} \Lambda_c - \bar{D}^{(*)}\Sigma_c^{(*)}$ within an analytic, unitary, coupled-channel approach by including the $J/\psi p$ channel and performing fits to the $J/\psi p$ invariant mass distributions in the $\Lambda_b^0 \to J/\psi p K^-$ decay by the LHCb Collaboration. We take into account the contributions of $t$-channel pseudoscalar and vector meson exchanges and $u$-channel baryon exchanges in this work, and a series of bound states and resonances with different spin-parities are dynamically generated. According to the results, four states have a significant impact on the physical observables, with two having a spin-parity of $1/2^-$ and the other two having $3/2^-$. These states can be associated with the LHCb hidden-charm pentaquarks. We further provide the coupling strength between each pole and different channels, which provides some insights on how to search for them in future experiments. Moreover, we also search for poles in higher partial waves up to $J=7/2$ and find indications for the existence of several states with larger widths.

Abstract:Abstract B Meson anomalies triggered an interest as experimental measurements of the branching ratios and different polarization asymmetries by BABAR, Belle and LHCb have shown differences in the Standard Model (SM) predictions. In this work we address the complex WCs coupling by adding the dimension-six vector, (pseudo-)scalar, and tensor operators using model-independent weak effective Hamiltonian (WEH) with the assumption of left-handed neutrinos and with constraints coming from the leptonic branching ratio of charmed-meson. We analyze the parameter space of the new physics (NP) WCs that can explain the anomalies for the most recent data from HFLAV summer 2023. We find that the allowed parametric region of left-handed scalar couplings heavily depends on the constraints of the Bc branching ratio, and the maximum pull from the SM predictions comes for its 60 percent limit. And parametric region changes if we add LHCb data and extend our analysis. Furthermore, we derive the sum rules that correlate these observables with the LFU ratio of D and D* mesons and due the large errors in the experimental measurements of considered experimental observables, we predict these observables in terms of the LFU ratio of D and D* mesons. We find that the most significant impact of NP arises from the WC CSL= 4CT. Finally, we investigate the impact of these NP couplings on various angular and CP-triple product asymmetries.
