Abstract:We review a sample of the experimental results from AGS to SPS and RHIC and their interpretations towards understanding of the Quark-Gluon Plasma. We discuss extrapolations of these results to the upcoming LHC experiments. Finally, we present the plans to probe the QCD critical point with an energy scan at RHIC and FAIR facilities.

Abstract:I review the three broad areas where major progress has been reported: The phase structure of strongly interacting matter, the properties of matter at the instant when it freezes out into individual hadrons in the final stage of the expansion of the hot fireball, and the status of the main signatures of the formation of a quark-gluon plasma. In the final section I present some thoughts about what should be done next, both in the experiemntal and the theoretical arena.

Abstract:The two arguably most generic phenomena seen in ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions are the flow of essentially all soft hadronic observables and the quenching of essentially all hard hadronic observables. Limiting the discussion to these two classes of phenomena, I review what can be said so far about the properties of hot and dense QCD matter from the heavy ion programs at RHIC and at the LHC, and I discuss the opportunities for further progress in the coming years.

Abstract:I review the current status of lattice Monte-Carlo computations of the equation of state of QCD, our current understanding of the thermalization process at collider energies, and two new theoretical developments, one pertaining to the ab-initio calculation of the low-$x$ gluon structure of heavy nuclei, the other to the chaotic behavior of QCD. At the end I give a brief overview of the status of various quark-gluon plasma signatures.

Abstract:Since we entered the 21st century,our understanding of the state of matter at the most fundamental level has been significantly deepened,mainly due to the successful running of the relativistic heavy-ion collider at Brookhaven National Laboratory in the U.S.and the Large Hadron Collider at CERN.In particular,a new state of matter,the so-called quark-gluon plasma,has been extensively investigated,and many new and important achievements have been made.In this article we shall discuss the following points:1) the strong interaction and phase structure of quantum chromodynamics,2) the various properties of the quark-gluon plasma,and 3) the experimental signals of the quark-gluon plasma in high energy nuclear collisions.

Abstract:In relativistic heavy-ion collisions, a quark-gluon plasma (QGP) is created whose pre-equilibrium evolution includes a rich variety of exciting phenomena of Quantum Chromodynamics. In these Proceedings, we provide a short overview of our current understanding of the pre-equilibrium dynamics of the QGP from a weak-coupling perspective and highlight recent developments. Focusing on new studies, we then discuss how initial stages of the QGP medium may impact hard probes including direct photons, dileptons, jets, and heavy quarks. This introduces promising opportunities to obtain experimental signatures of the pre-equilibrium QGP.

Abstract:Important experimental results from CERN heavy ion collisions and their physical interpretation are reviewed.A hot and dense system is formed in the early stages of the collisions,and the energy density reaches the threshold to create quark-gluon plasma(QGP).The experimental phenomena like low-mass dilepton enhancement,J/Ψ suppression and strangeness enhancement can be explained through the formation of QGP.However,the current data are still not enough to prove the existence of QGP.

Abstract:Heavy ion collisions quickly form a droplet of quark-gluon plasma (QGP) with a remarkably small viscosity. We give an accessible introduction to how to study this smallest and hottest droplet of liquid made on earth and why it is so interesting. The physics of heavy ions ranges from highly energetic quarks and gluons described by perturbative QCD to a bath of strongly interacting gluons at lower energy scales. These gluons quickly thermalize and form QGP, while the energetic partons traverse this plasma and end in a shower of particles called jets. Analyzing the final particles in a variety of different ways allows us to study the properties of QGP and the complex dynamics of multi-scale processes in QCD which govern its formation and evolution, providing what is perhaps the simplest form of complex quantum matter that we know of. Much remains to be understood, and throughout the review big open questions will be encountered.

Abstract:In relativistic heavy-ion collisions, electromagnetic (EM) radiation has been used as a sensitive probe of Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP) properties, owing to the smaller EM coupling relative to QCD coupling. To better understand the constraining power of EM emissions on transport properties of the QGP, a deeper understanding of both the theory and phenomenology of EM signals is required. A selection of recent developments in those two areas of QGP EM probes is discussed, with an outlook on how Bayesian model-to-data comparisons can help further quantify our understanding of QGP transport coefficients.

Abstract:Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) is a firmly established part of the Standard Model, yet its long distance properties remain challenging at a conceptual level. In recent years significant experimental and theoretical progress has been made towards a field theoretic understanding of hadrons as QCD bound states, addressing the complex properties of relativistic bound states in a gluon condensate with spontaneously broken chiral symmetry. In this introductory talk I give a personal view of some of the issues involved: Measuring hadron matrix elements, understanding their QCD dynamics and explaining the apparently close relationship between hard and soft processes.

Abstract:This review explores the current understanding of collective excitations and the dynamics of heavy quark propagation in the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) formed in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. We focus on three core aspects: the theoretical modelling of the QGP, including momentum anisotropy, medium-induced collisions, finite chemical potential, and non-ideal interactions; the collective behaviours within the plasma; and the interaction dynamics of heavy quarks as they traverse the medium. Along with the polarization energy loss mechanisms, we also review the possibility of energy gain due to thermal field fluctuations. Lastly, we discuss how these theoretical insights can be tested through experiments and outline possible directions for future research.

Abstract:The quark-gluon plasma produced by collisions between ultra-relativistic heavy nuclei is well described in the language of hydrodynamics. Non-central collisions are characterized by very large angular momentum, which in a fluid system manifests as flow vorticity. This rotational structure can lead to a spin polarization of the hadrons that eventually emerge from the plasma, providing experimental access to flow substructure at unprecedented detail. Recently, first observations of $\Lambda$ hyperon polarization along the direction of collisional angular momentum have been reported. These measurements are in broad agreement with hydrodynamic and transport-based calculations and reveal that the QGP is the most vortical fluid ever observed. However, there remain important tensions between theory and observation which might be fundamental in nature. In the relatively mature field of heavy ion physics, the discovery of global hyperon polarization and three-dimensional simulations of the collision have opened an entirely new direction of research. We discuss the current status of this rapidly developing area and directions for future research.

In this review, I discuss some of the recent observations leading to such a possibility, associated challenges, and some predictions for the upcoming light-nuclei collisions at the LHC.

Abstract:In this manuscript, it is presented an overview of the Quark-Gluon Plasma properties measured, so far, using hard probes. We will focus on both quantitative and qualitative properties that have been (or are about to be) measured, making a link between the theoretical description and experimental results. Throughout the manuscript, highlights to some of the conferences' results will be given, but without an extensive overview. A personal opinion of the most important developments and critical problems that need more work in the future is presented at the end.

Abstract:Aiming for the simultaneous description of the hard and the soft regime of ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions, we present our recent findings within the partonic transport model BAMPS (Boltzmann Approach to Multi-Parton Scatterings). While using both elastic and radiative interactions provided by perturbative QCD, BAMPS allows the full 3+1D simulation of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) at the microscopic level by solving the relativistic Boltzmann equation for quarks and gluons. BAMPS facilitates investigations of jet quenching, heavy flavor and elliptic flow within the partonic phase of heavy-ion collisions as well as studies of QGP medium properties in terms of e.g. transport coecients like /s and the electric conductivity.

Abstract:We summarize recent developments in our understanding of low-mass quark-antiquark excitations in hadronic matter under various different conditions. This includes the thermodynamics of the chiral condensate, pions as Goldstone bosons in normal nuclear matter, and excursions into extreme territory of the QCD phase diagram: lepton pair production from a fireball expanding through the transition boundary between the quark-gluon and hadron pha ses of QCD.
