Abstract:We compute the reverse lexicographic generic initial ideals of the powers of a 2-complete intersection ideal I. In particular, we give six algorithms to compute these generic initial ideals, the choice of which depends on the power and on the relative degrees of the minimal generators of I.

Abstract:We consider ideals in a polynomial ring generated by collections of power sum polynomials, and obtain conditions under which these define complete intersection rings, normal domains, and unique factorization domains. We also settle a key case of a conjecture of Conca, Krattenthaler, and Watanabe, and prove other results in that direction.

Abstract:In this paper, we provide exact formulas for the regularity of powers of an almost complete intersection ideal I which is generated by a homogeneous d -sequence. As applications, when I is an almost complete intersection, taking the form of a (parity) binomial edge ideal of a connected graph, we can describe explicitly reg(I^t) for t≥ 2 . The only exception is when I is the parity binomial edge ideal of a graph which is obtained by adding an edge between two disjoint odd cycles.

Abstract:An almost complete intersection ideal can be seen as a $d$-sequence ideal with the minimal number of generators being one more than its height. In this paper, we give exact formulas for the regularity of powers of graded almost complete intersection ideals. We also present the minimal bigraded free resolutions of Rees algebras associated with linear type ideals having one generator more than their grade and study the properties of Cohen-Macaualyness, Koszulness associated to their diagonals.

Abstract:We classify all unmixed monomial ideals I of codimension 2 which are generically a complete intersection and which have the property that the symbolic power algebra A(I) is standard graded. We give a lower bound for the highest degree of a generator of A(I) in the case that I is a modification of the vertex cover ideal of a bipartite graph, and show that this highest degree can be any given number. We furthermore give an upper bound for the highest degree of a generator of the integral closure of A(I) in the case that I is a monomial ideal which is generically a complete intersection.

Iterated power intersections of ideals in rings of iterated differential polynomials II

Abstract:This paper is a continuation of a previous work by the author and G. Puninski where iterated intersections of powers of ideals were studied in rings of iterated differential polynomials. We present a method which can be used to show that for every proper ideal $I$ of a suitable ring of iterated differential polynomials almost all iterated intersections of powers of $I$ have to be zero. The setback of the method is that it works only if the derivations used in the construction of the ring of iterated differential polynomials satisfy additional assumptions. On the other hand, it can be applied in cases which were not covered by the aforementioned work, for example for a universal enveloping algebra of a completely solvable Lie algebra over a field of positive characteristic.

Abstract:We discuss the property of (almost) complete intersection of LSS-ideals of graphs of some special forms, like trees, unicyclic, and bicyclic graphs. Further, we give a sufficient condition for the complete intersection property of twisted LSS-ideals in terms of a new graph theoretical invariant called twisted positive matching decomposition number denoted by tpmd. We also study the regularity of powers of LSS-ideals and make observations related to the Koszul property of the quotients of the same.

Abstract:We continue a very fruitful line of inquiry into the multiplicative ideal theory of an arbitrary Leavitt path algebra L. Specifically, we show that factorizations of an ideal in L into irredundant products or intersections of finitely many prime-power ideals are unique, provided that the ideals involved are powers of distinct prime ideals. We also characterize the completely irreducible ideals in L, which turn out to be prime-power ideals of a special type, as well as ideals that can be factored into products or intersections of finitely many completely irreducible ideals.

Powers of Edge Ideals with Linear Quotients

Abstract:We prove that the powers of an edge ideal with linear quotients must also have linear quotients by employing a novel, easily implementable ordering of the minimal generators. As a consequence, we give explicit formulas for the projective dimension and Betti numbers of the edge ideals of whisker graphs. We also prove that second and higher powers of the edge ideals of anticycles admit linear quotient orderings, thus resolving an open question of Hoefel and Whieldon in the affirmative.

On binomial complete intersections

Abstract:We consider homogeneous binomial ideals $I=(f_1,\ldots,f_n)$ in $K[x_1, \ldots, x_n]$, where $f_i = a_i x_i^{d_i} - b_i m_i$ and $a_i \neq 0$. When such an ideal is a complete intersection, we show that the monomials which are not divisible by $x_i^{d_i}$ for $i=1,\ldots,n$ form a vector space basis for the corresponding quotient, and we describe the Macaulay dual generator in terms of a directed graph that we associate to $I$. These two properties can be seen as a natural generalization of well-known properties for monomial complete intersections. Moreover, we give a description of the radical of the resultant of $I$ in terms of the directed graph.

Abstract:Let I be either the ideal of maximal minors or the ideal of 2-minors of a row graded or column graded matrix of linear forms L. In two previous papers we showed that I is a Cartwright-Sturmfels ideal, that is, the multigraded generic initial ideal gin(I) of I is radical (and essentially independent of the term order chosen). In this paper we describe generators and prime decomposition of gin(I) in terms of data related to the linear dependences among the row or columns of the submatrices of L. In the case of 2-minors we also give a closed formula for its multigraded Hilbert series.

Abstract:Let $(R,\fm)$ be a local ring and $\fa$ be an ideal of $R$. The inequalities $$\begin{array}{ll} \ \Ht(\fa) \leq \cd(\fa,R) \leq \ara(\fa) \leq l(\fa) \leq \mu(\fa) \end{array}$$ are known. It is an interesting and long-standing problem to find out the cases giving equality. Thanks to the formal grade we give conditions in which the above inequalities become equalities.

Abstract:In this paper we consider a notion of universal sets for ideals. We show that there exist universal sets of minimal Borel complexity for classic ideals like null subsets of $2^\omega$ and meager subsets of any Polish space, and demonstrate that the existence of such sets is helpful in establishing some facts about the real line in generic extensions. We also construct universal sets for $\mathcal{E}$ - the $\sigma$-ideal generated by closed null subsets of $2^\omega$, and for some ideals connected with forcing notions: $\mathcal{K}_\sigma$ subsets of $\omega^{\omega}$ and the Laver ideal. We also consider Fubini products of ideals and show that there are $\Sigma^0_3$ universal sets for $\mathcal{N}\otimes\mathcal{M}$ and $\mathcal{M}\otimes\mathcal{N}$.
On the weak Lefschetz property for ideals generated by powers of general linear forms

Abstract:We provide a description of initial ideals for almost complete intersections generated by powers of general linear forms and prove that WLP in a fixed degree $d$ holds when the number of variables $n$ is sufficiently large compared to $d$. In particular, we show that if $n\geq 3d-2$ then WLP holds for the ideal generated by squares at the degree $d$ spot and for $n\ge \frac{3d-3}{2}$ WLP holds for ideal generated by cubes at the degree $d$ spot. Finally, we prove that WLP fails for the ideal generated by squares when $n< 3d -2$ at the $d$th spot by finding an explicit element in the kernel of the multiplication by a general linear form. This shows that our bound on $n$ is sharp in the case of the squares.

Abstract: Inspired by the recent work of Lu and O'Rourke, we study the $a_i$-invariants of (symbolic) powers of some graded ideals. The first scenario is when $I$ and $J$ are two graded ideals in two distinct polynomial rings $R$ and $S$ over a common field $\mathbb{K}$. We study the $a_i$-invariants of the powers of the fiber product via the corresponding knowledge of $I$ and $J$. The second scenario is when $I_{\Delta}$ is the Stanley-Reisner ideal of a $k$-dimensional simplicial complex $\Delta$ with $k\ge 2$. We investigate the $a_i$-invariants of the symbolic powers of $I_{\Delta}$.
Generalized mixed product ideals whose powers have a linear resolution

Abstract:In this paper we study classes of monomial ideals for which all of its powers have a linear resolution. Let K[x_{1},x_{2}] be the polynomial ring in two variables over the field K, and let L be the generalized mixed product ideal induced by a monomial ideal I. It is shown that, if I\subset K[x_1,x_2] and the ideals substituting the monomials in I are Veronese type ideals, then L^{k} has a linear resolution for all k\geq 1. Furthermore, we compute some algebraic invariants of generalized mixed product ideals induced by a transversal polymatroidal ideal.

Abstract:Abstract Let $S=K[x_1,\ldots ,x_n]$ be the polynomial ring over a field K , and let A be a finitely generated standard graded S -algebra. We show that if the defining ideal of A has a quadratic initial ideal, then all the graded components of A are componentwise linear. Applying this result to the Rees ring $\mathcal {R}(I)$ of a graded ideal I gives a criterion on I to have componentwise linear powers. Moreover, for any given graph G , a construction on G is presented which produces graphs whose cover ideals $I_G$ have componentwise linear powers. This, in particular, implies that for any Cohen–Macaulay Cameron–Walker graph G all powers of $I_G$ have linear resolutions. Moreover, forming a cone on special graphs like unmixed chordal graphs, path graphs, and Cohen–Macaulay bipartite graphs produces cover ideals with componentwise linear powers.

Abstract:Let G be a graph and let I be its edge ideal. Our main result shows that the sets of associated primes of the powers of I form an ascending chain. It is known that the sets of associated primes of I(i) and intcl(I(i)) stabilize for large i, where "intcl" denotes integral closure and I(i) denotes the i-th power of I. We show that for edge ideals their corresponding stable sets are equal. To show our main result we use a classical result of Berge from matching theory and certain notions from combinatorial optimization.

Abstract:Based on works of Saharon Shelah, Jakob Kellner, and Anda Tănasie for controlling the cardinal characteristics of the continuum in ccc forcing extensions, in the author's master's thesis was introduced a new combinatorial notion: the intersection number for forcing notions, which was used in such thesis to build a general theory of iterated forcing using finitely additive measures. In this paper, we present the definition of such a notion and prove some of its fundamental properties in detail. Additionally, we introduce a new linkedness property called $\mu$-intersection-linked, prove some of its basic properties, and provide some interesting examples.
