Abstract:The treatment of complex systems often requires the manipulation of vague, imprecise and uncertain information. Indeed, the human being is competent in handling of such systems in a natural way. Instead of thinking in mathematical terms, humans describes the behavior of the system by language proposals. In order to represent this type of information, Zadeh proposed to model the mechanism of human thought by approximate reasoning based on linguistic variables. He introduced the theory of fuzzy sets in 1965, which provides an interface between language and digital worlds. In this paper, we propose a Boolean modeling of the fuzzy reasoning that we baptized Fuzzy-BML and uses the characteristics of induction graph classification. Fuzzy-BML is the process by which the retrieval phase of a CBR is modelled not in the conventional form of mathematical equations, but in the form of a database with membership functions of fuzzy rules.

Local Relation Mapping Theory of Fuzzy Reasoning

Abstract:Many authors discussed the interpolation mechanism of fuzzy logic system applied in control. The input and output of fuzzy control system are always restrained in (fuzzy) numbers-associated with fuzzification and defuzzification procedure. In artificial intelligence area we need use common fuzzy sets to represent vague and fuzzy concept. In this paper, we propose a "local relation mapping" theory, which is a corresponding result of interpolation mechanism of fuzzy logical system without fuzzification and defuzzification. This local relation mapping property holds in Mamdani algorithm (Max-Min fuzzy reasoning model). We find that each CRI fuzzy reasoning method based on the multi-valued logic implication operator has an approximate Mamdani algorithm. The fuzzy relation matrix of CRI fuzzy inference method based on the multivalued logic implication operator has an enveloping surface of Mamdani algorithm. So most CRI fuzzy reasoning methods have local relation mapping property approximately

Abstract:Case-based Reasoning (CBR) has become a successful technique for Case-based systems. This paper presents a new method, CBR,in the colour-matching area of printing and dyeing. A soft prototype system of CBRMCS is introduced. Four critical techniques in CBRMCS are discussed: Knowledge Representation,Retrieval of similar cases ,case reusing and case learning. This proposed approach is demonstrated by experiment of CBRMCS. On an database of reactive dyestuff recipes in some dyehouses, morethan 80% similar recipes can be retrieved in CBRMCS. 45% recipes are accurate in first color matching. the relevant figure of traditional colour-matching is 30%.

Abstract:Case-based reasoning is a recent approach to problem solving and learning that has got a lot of attention over the last few years. Originating in the US, the basic idea and underlying theories have spread to other continents, and we are now within a period of highly active research in case-based reasoning in Europe as well. This paper gives an overview of the foundational issues related to case-based reasoning, describes some of the leading methodological approaches within the field, and exemplifies the current state through pointers to some systems. Initially, a general framework is defined, to which the subsequent descriptions and discussions will refer. The framework is influenced by recent methodologies for knowledge level descriptions of intelligent systems. The methods for case retrieval, reuse, solution testing, and learning are summarized, and their actual realization is discussed in the light of a few example systems that represent different CBR approaches. We also discuss the role of case-based methods as one type of reasoning and learning method within an integrated system architecture.

Abstract:Emergency management is such a domain where experiential knowledge could be easily collected, and is quite suitable for the application of case based reasoning. However, in practice there are two problems limiting the effectiveness of CBR, the he incomplete information and changing situations. This paper proposed an approach based on fuzzy sets and text mining to solve those two problems, which contains four steps: a) represent the attributes with fuzzy sets, b) extract solution texts with text classification, c) establish connections of attributes and solutions with association rules, and d) adjust the solution with fuzzy reasoning. An example shows the adaption for emergency management and illustrates the improvement for CBR with the approach.

Abstract:Artificial intelligence (AI) has been used in various areas to support system optimization and find solutions where the complexity makes it challenging to use algorithmic and heuristics. Case-based Reasoning (CBR) is an AI technique intensively exploited in domains like management, medicine, design, construction, retail and smart grid. CBR is a technique for problem-solving and captures new knowledge by using past experiences. One of the main CBR deployment challenges is the target system modeling process. This paper presents a straightforward methodological approach to model CBR-based applications using the concepts of abstract and concrete models. Splitting the modeling process with two models facilitates the allocation of expertise between the application domain and the CBR technology. The methodological approach intends to facilitate the CBR modeling process and to foster CBR use in various areas outside computer science.

Abstract:An essential component of case-based reasoning (CbR) is the similarity function. The existence of incorrect similarity values, one of the primary issues of similarity function, occurs when two cases seem to have a lot in similarity but actually differ greatly from one another. The aim of this study is to suggest a fuzzy similarity function that might be used with CbR, which has been executed in three primary phases. Firstly, a knowledge base is created. Secondly, the inference engines are created. To determine fuzzy similarity values, the proposed approach employs Graded Mean Integration Representation (GMIR), which takes into consideration the impact of each evidence on the case. Finally, model testing is determined by comparing GMIR with the additive function and additive weighting and using them as the sensitivity test. A comparison of similarity methods was carried out using the k-NN, Euclidean, and Pearson similarity. Expert evaluation carries out external validity checking. The degree of similarity between the CbR output solution and the expert solution is determined using the Intuitive Fuzzy Weighted Arithmetic Mean (IFWAM). The results demonstrate that the GMIR function applied with thresholds of 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.7, and 0.8 provides the fewest instances of similar cases when compared to the additive and additive weighting approaches. GMIR is able to provide a variety of alternatives using the threshold value. IFWAM performs 93.33% when used in 15 test scenarios, and only one of the solutions from the CbR output differs from that offered by the pshycologs. The main reason is the challenge of selecting keywords for every item of evidence provided. When CbR's validity was examined, it was also demonstrated that IFWAM was reliable in estimating the degree of similarity between CbR output and expert solutions.

Abstract:With the rapid development of case-based reasoning (CBR) techniques, CBR has been widely applied to real-world applications such as collision avoidance systems. A successful CBR-based system relies on a high-quality case base, and a case creation technique for generating such a case base is highly required. In this paper, we propose an automated case learning method for CBR-based collision avoidance systems. Building on techniques from CBR and natural language processing, we developed a methodology for learning cases from maritime affair records. After giving an overview on the developed systems, we present the methodology and the experiments conducted in case creation and case evaluation. The experimental results demonstrated the usefulness and applicability of the case learning approach for generating cases from the historic maritime affair records.

Abstract:This article introduces fuzzy analogical reasoning by presenting it as an essential component of a global fuzzy reasoning process to be developed. The conceptual framework for urban dialogue systems enables such systems to emulate human analogical reasoning by using cognitive computing, particularly soft computing. This framework is already in the second iteration of its development. Two experiments were conducted to confirm the stability of the theoretical foundation of the framework, and eight experts evaluated it. Based on the experimental findings, the authors have extended the framework with a complementary component focused on knowledge management. Therefore, this article also introduces network-like memory that can be used to retrieve the information needed for the fuzzy analogical reasoning process. The proposed approach for knowledge management is based on the use of fuzzy cognitive maps that can be stored in graph databases.

Abstract:It is often challenging to solve a complex problem from scratch, but much easier if we can access other similar problems with their solutions -- a paradigm known as case-based reasoning (CBR). We propose a neuro-symbolic CBR approach (CBR-KBQA) for question answering over large knowledge bases. CBR-KBQA consists of a nonparametric memory that stores cases (question and logical forms) and a parametric model that can generate a logical form for a new question by retrieving cases that are relevant to it. On several KBQA datasets that contain complex questions, CBR-KBQA achieves competitive performance. For example, on the ComplexWebQuestions dataset, CBR-KBQA outperforms the current state of the art by 11\% on accuracy. Furthermore, we show that CBR-KBQA is capable of using new cases \emph{without} any further training: by incorporating a few human-labeled examples in the case memory, CBR-KBQA is able to successfully generate logical forms containing unseen KB entities as well as relations.

Abstract:Reasoning, the most important human brain operation, is charactrized by a degree fuzziness. In the present paper we construct a fuzzy model for the reasoning process giving through the calculation of the possibilities of all possible individuals' profiles a quantitative/qualitative view of their behaviour during the above process and we use the centroid defuzzification technique for measuring the reasoning skills. We also present a number of classroom experiments illustrating our results in practice.

Abstract:In this paper, a multiple fault diagnosis method based on case-based reasoning (CBR) is presented. And the characteristics of multiple fault modes are studied, then the case knowledge library is established for multiple faults, finally a two-step case retrieval strategy is proposed. The candidate case generation method based on the membership weights is employed to initially retrieve, which can reduce the number of candidate cases efficiently. Then, through calculating the case similarity using the grey relational analysis, the most probable fault case is obtained. It can avoids the problem of time-consuming computation resulting from the combination explosion of multiple faults. Finally, an example is applied to illustrate the proposed scheme, the results mean that the above method is effective, and it can be adopted in the actual industrial production.
Probabilistic Case-based Reasoning for Open-World Knowledge Graph Completion

Abstract:A case-based reasoning (CBR) system solves a new problem by retrieving `cases' that are similar to the given problem. If such a system can achieve high accuracy, it is appealing owing to its simplicity, interpretability, and scalability. In this paper, we demonstrate that such a system is achievable for reasoning in knowledge-bases (KBs). Our approach predicts attributes for an entity by gathering reasoning paths from similar entities in the KB. Our probabilistic model estimates the likelihood that a path is effective at answering a query about the given entity. The parameters of our model can be efficiently computed using simple path statistics and require no iterative optimization. Our model is non-parametric, growing dynamically as new entities and relations are added to the KB. On several benchmark datasets our approach significantly outperforms other rule learning approaches and performs comparably to state-of-the-art embedding-based approaches. Furthermore, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our model in an "open-world" setting where new entities arrive in an online fashion, significantly outperforming state-of-the-art approaches and nearly matching the best offline method. Abstract:The combination of Artificial Neural Networks and Fuzzy Logic Systems enables the representation of real-world problems via the creation of intelligent and adaptive systems. By adapting the interconnections between layers, Artificial Neural networks are able to learn. A computing framework based on the concept of fuzzy set and rules as well as fuzzy reasoning is offered by fuzzy logic inference systems. The fusion of the aforementioned adaptive structures is called a "Neuro-Fuzzy" system. In this paper, the main elements of said structures are examined. Researchers have noticed that this fusion could be applied for pattern recognition in medical applications.

Abstract:Customer participation is common in cooperative design, which facilitates the understanding and addressing of customers' requirements. Case-based Reasoning (CBR) is an effective method for quickly finding cases that may address customers' requirements. The challenges for applying CBR to fulfill customers' requirements at an early design stage include the complexity of requirements representation, the conflicts between different requirements, and the development of similarity measures for retrieval. This paper presents our work on the representation of both qualitative and quantitative requirements on product performance on the basis of fuzzy matter-element. On that basis, a similarity measure is developed using the side-distance in extension theory, to achieve accurate retrieval and effective conflict resolution. A case study of a screw air compressor is used to evaluate the proposed description method and the similarity measure. It is shown that the proposed methods are viable and effectively address the conflict resolution issue.
