Abstract:In this paper, a multiple fault diagnosis method based on case-based reasoning (CBR) is presented. And the characteristics of multiple fault modes are studied, then the case knowledge library is established for multiple faults, finally a two-step case retrieval strategy is proposed. The candidate case generation method based on the membership weights is employed to initially retrieve, which can reduce the number of candidate cases efficiently. Then, through calculating the case similarity using the grey relational analysis, the most probable fault case is obtained. It can avoids the problem of time-consuming computation resulting from the combination explosion of multiple faults. Finally, an example is applied to illustrate the proposed scheme, the results mean that the above method is effective, and it can be adopted in the actual industrial production.

Abstract:Clustering is widely used in several fields such as statistics, machine learning, pattern recognition and numerical analysis. Recently, more and more attention has been paid to it. In this paper, five issues commonly concerned are discussed, they are: assessment of clustering results, estimation of total number of clusters, data preparation, measures of data proximity and outlier handling. Representative solutions to these issues are surveyed, conclusions are summed up, development trend of algorithms to deal with these five issues is forecasted.

Abstract:This paper further extends RIn-Close_CVC, a biclustering algorithm capable of performing an efficient, complete, correct and non-redundant enumeration of maximal biclusters with constant values on columns in numerical datasets. By avoiding a priori partitioning and itemization of the dataset, RIn-Close_CVC implements an online partitioning, which is demonstrated here to guide to more informative biclustering results. The improved algorithm is called RIn-Close_CVC3, keeps those attractive properties of RIn-Close_CVC, as formally proved here, and is characterized by: a drastic reduction in memory usage; a consistent gain in runtime; additional ability to handle datasets with missing values; and additional ability to operate with attributes characterized by distinct distributions or even mixed data types. The experimental results include synthetic and real-world datasets used to perform scalability and sensitivity analyses. As a practical case study, a parsimonious set of relevant and interpretable mixed-attribute-type rules is obtained in the context of supervised descriptive pattern mining.

Bayesian Bi-clustering Methods with Applications in Computational Biology

Abstract:Bi-clustering is a useful approach in analyzing biological data when observations come from heterogeneous groups and have a large number of features. We outline a general Bayesian approach in tackling bi-clustering problems in moderate to high dimensions, and propose three Bayesian bi-clustering models on categorical data, which increase in complexities in their modeling of the distributions of features across bi-clusters. Our proposed methods apply to a wide range of scenarios: from situations where data are cluster-distinguishable only among a small subset of features but masked by a large amount of noise, to situations where different groups of data are identified by different sets of features or data exhibit hierarchical structures. Through simulation studies, we show that our methods outperform existing (bi-)clustering methods in both identifying clusters and recovering feature distributional patterns across bi-clusters. We apply our methods to two genetic datasets, though the area of application of our methods is even broader.

Abstract:Under big data, large number of features as well as their complex data types makes traditional feature selection and knowledge reasoning in CBR system not adapt to new condition. To solve these problems, first, this paper proposes Weighted Relative Probability Change of Solution Parameters (WRPCSP) algorithm to execute feature selection. Then, this paper integrates Bayesian network (BN) with CBR system for knowledge reasoning. Based on probability calculation and reasoning, WRPCSP algorithm together with BN allows the proposed CBR system to well work under big data. In addition, to overcome the efficiency problem caused by large number of features, this paper also proposes Group-Outside (GO) algorithm to assign the computing task of big data for parallel data processing. GO algorithm can make the computing capacity of Hadoop fully utilized to gain the least time costing for parallel data processing. Finally, lots of experiments are performed to validate the proposed method.

Abstract:In today's education practices, it is common to group students on their performance and teach them separately. Additionally, now a lot of data mining tools, including many education data mining tools, are available to teachers. With the help of these tools, student grouping can be more effective using clustering algorithms. This article proposes two principles of choosing clustering algorithm for student grouping. Two algorithms are chosen and an experiment is made to compare their effectiveness on students' learning data. Finally we give the conclusion on why one algorithm performs better than the other.

Abstract:This paper introduces a method of estimating machining processing-hour of injection mould using case-based reasoning.Case presentation,case retrieval,case adaptation and case-library update in this CBR system are described in detail.In order to overcome the handicap in obtaining case feature weights,a genetic algorithm(GA) approach is designed and implemented to optimize case feature weights automatically by the case data stored in case-base.A prototype system has been developed based on the above method.Then an example of injection mould has been used to test the system,and the result indicates that it is valid to estimate machining processing-hour of injection mould with the method mationed above.

Abstract:Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has become popular and been viewed as an effective clinical treatment across the world. Accordingly, there is an ever-increasing interest in performing data analysis over TCM data. Aiming to cope with the problem of excessively depending on empirical values when selecting cluster centers by traditional clustering algorithms, an improved artificial bee colony algorithm is proposed by which to automatically select cluster centers and apply it to aggregate Chinese herbal medicines. The proposed method integrates the following new techniques: (1) improving the artificial bee colony algorithm by applying a new searching strategy of neighbour nectar, (2) employing the improved artificial bee colony algorithm to optimize the parameters of the cutoff distance dc, the local density ρi and the minimum distance δi between the element i and any other element with higher density in the cluster algorithm by fast search and finding of density peaks (called DP algorithm) to find the optimal cluster centers, in order to clustering herbal medicines in an accurate fashion with the guarantee of runtime performance. Extensive experiments were conducted on the UCI benchmark datasets and the TCM datasets and the results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method by comparing it with classical clustering algorithms including K-means, K-mediods and DBSCAN in multiple evaluation metrics, that is, Silhouette Coefficient, Entropy, Purity, Precision, Recall and F1-Measure. The results show that the IABC-DP algorithm outperforms other approaches with good clustering quality and accuracy on the UCI and the TCM datasets as well. In addition, it can be found that the improved artificial bee colony algorithm can effectively reduce the number of iterations when compared to the traditional bee colony algorithm. In particular, the IABC-DP algorithm is applied to cluster multi-dimensional Chinese herbal medicines and the result shows that it outperforms other clustering algorithms in clustering Chinese herbal medicines, which can contribute to a larger effort targeted at advancing the study of discovering composition rules of traditional Chinese prescriptions.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a novel approach to clustering noisy and complex data sets based on the eXtend Classifier Systems (XCS). The proposed approach, termed XCSc, has three main processes: (a) a learning process to evolve the rule population, (b) a rule compacting process to remove redundant rules after the learning process, and (c) a rule merging process to deal with the overlapping rules that commonly occur between the clusters. In the first process, we have modified the clustering mechanisms of the current available XCS and developed a new accelerate learning method to improve the quality of the evolved rule population. In the second process, an effective rule compacting algorithm is utilized. The rule merging process is based on our newly proposed agglomerative hierarchical rule merging algorithm, which comprises the following steps: (i) all the generated rules are modeled by a graph, with each rule representing a node; (ii) the vertices in the graph are merged to form a number of sub-graphs (i. e. rule clusters) under some pre-defined criteria, which generates the final rule set to represent the clusters; (iii) each data is re-checked and assigned to a cluster that it belongs to, guided by the final rule set. In our experiments, we compared the proposed XCSc with CHAMELEON, a benchmark algorithm well known for its excellent performance, on a number of challenging data sets. The results show that the proposed approach outperforms CHAMELEON in the successful rate, and also demonstrates good stability.

Abstract:Case-based reasoning (CBR) is an effective method that integrates reasoning methodology and represents related knowledge in a domain. The success of a CBR system largely depends on case retrieval, and the similarity and determination of weight for each case features have a significant influence on the efficiency and accuracy of case retrieval. The aim of the research is to improve the efficiency and accuracy of case retrieval. Analyzing the deficiency of similarity measures based on the classical distance, different similarity measures are proposed for different kinds of attribute values based on the extension distance, especially the similarity model between numerical and set considered the customer’s preference. The standard deviation related with the similarity is introduced to distribute the dynamic attribute’s weights which also considered the customer’s interest, but not the traditional methods that the weight is a constant if determined. The presented methods will enable the system to retrieve the more similar case correctly so that reducing case adaptation. In this study, an electric drill is used as a case to verify the usefulness and effectiveness of the similarity measurements and weight assignments. It is demonstrated that this method is more beneficial to case retrieval compared with other methods.

Abstract:Many advanced clustering techniques are effective in dealing datasets in complicated situations. However, when facing large datasets, which are increasingly common in the era of big data, the time requirements of most existing techniques can quickly become intolerable. To tackle this challenge, in this paper, we propose Scalable Clustering Using Boundary Information (SCUBI), a highly flexible and scalable clustering scheme. The idea of SCUBI is to identify the boundary points of the original dataset in the first place and then group boundary points into suitable clusters using existing clustering techniques. Finally, the rest points are assigned to the same cluster as their nearest boundary points. To demonstrate the effectiveness and scalability of SCUBI, we plug the well-known DBSCAN algorithm into SCUBI. Comprehensive experiments are conducted using datasets with up to two million data points to compare the clustering results and time efficiency between DBSCAN and SCUBI-DBSCAN. Experimental results show that our method can obtain almost identical clustering results as the standard DBSCAN while achieving orders of magnitude speedup especially on large datasets, which confirms the scalability of SCUBI. Experiments are also performed on other clustering algorithms with high time complexity to verify the flexibility of SCUBI. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
Joint CC and Bimax: A Biclustering Method for Single-Cell RNA-Seq Data Analysis

Abstract:One of the important aims of analyzing single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) data is to discovery new cell subtypes by clustering. For the scRNA-seq data, it is obvious that lots of genes have similar behavior under the different conditions (cells). Traditional clustering algorithms could not obtain high-quality cluster on scRNA-seq data. However, the biclustering algorithm has begun a more powerful data mining tool, which can cluster genes and conditions (cells) simultaneously. In this paper, we propose a novel biclustering algorithm named JCB: Joint CC and BIMAX. The algorithm is based on the two classic biclustering algorithms: Cheng and Church’s algorithm (CC) and Binary Inclusion-Maximal biclustering algorithm (Bimax). The main idea of the JCB method is that it joints the “mean squared residual (MSR)” proposed by CC with the model of BIMAX. It gets the biclusters by iterating on rows and columns of the data matrix with the “MSR”, and it also benefits the advantage of simply model from Bimax. We evaluate the proposed method by carrying out extensive experiments on three scRNA-seq datasets. The JCB method is used to compete with six other bi-clustering algorithms. The experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms the others.
Simplifying and Improving Ant-Based Clustering.

Abstract:Swarm-based clustering has enthused researchers for its ability to find clusters in datasets automatically, and without requiring users to specify the number of clusters. While conventional wisdom suggests that swarm intelligence contributes to this ability, recent works have provided alternative explanation about underlying stochastic heuristics that are really at work. This paper shows that the working principles of several recent SBC methods can be explained using a stochastic clustering framework that is unrelated to swarm intelligence. The framework is theoretically simple and in practice easy to implement. We also incorporate a mechanism to calibrate a key parameter so as to enhance the clustering performance. Despite the simplicity of the enhanced algorithm, experimental results show that it outperforms two recent SBC methods in terms of clustering accuracy and efficiency in the majority of the datasets used in this study.

Abstract:Successful information retrieval with case-based reasoning (CBR) depends on a good similarity metric that can distinguish those cases that are most pertinent to a user's query in a potentially large case-base. Traditional CBR ranks cases according to their similarity value and returns a small number of top-ranked cases in response to the query. Since in general the retrieved cases are very well matched to the input user query, there is a high probability that they are also strongly similar to each other, and hence the range of choice offered in the retrieved list is limited. As a response to this issue, some recent research has considered methods to increase the intra-dissimilarity or diversity of the retrieved set. In this paper, we study this problem in detail. We argue that the motivation of diversity strategies is to increase the probability of retrieving unusual or novel cases and introduce a methodology that allows their performance in terms of novel case retrieval to be evaluated. Moreover, we formulate the trade-off between diversity and matching quality as a binary optimisation problem, with an input control parameter allowing explicit tuning of this trade-off. We study solution strategies to the optimisation problems and demonstrate the importance of the control parameter in obtaining desired system performance. The methods discussed are evaluated on synthetic data, based on the publicly available Travel case-based data-set.

Abstract:Based on the research of the basic principle of Case-based Reasoning (CBR),a concept of Lot-size gene to describe the variety of Lot-size is defined and a process planning model based CBR for various lot-size production is founded,including part model,case database,the searching mechanism,case modifying and saving. According to CBR,an algorithm for process planning based on CBR is proposed,to determinate the power of case attributes with Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP). Meanwhile,the weight power of lot-size gene is magnified to improve the affection of various lot-size to process planning. In the end,take the example of a kind of part,CBR technology for various lot-size production is verified in the process planning.

Abstract:In actual databases, there are a lot of hierarchy coding data, existing clustering algorithms don't consider the special treatment of these data structure, so lead nonideal performance and clustering result. This paper proposes a new clustering algorithm to deal with the hierarchy coding data structure (HCDS) that exists in many applications. The main contributions include: (1) proposes a new concept for HCDS and corresponding definitions. (2) Proposes and implements a new clustering algorithm---CHCC (Coding Hierarchy Computing Based Clustering Algorithm) based on HCDS. (3) Proposes a fast algorithm for hierarchy coding structure processing. (4) Applies the algorithm into the clustering analysis of transient population for public security, and through extensive experiments, proves the validity and efficiency of the algorithm.

Abstract:A new clustering classification approach based on fuzzy closeness relationship (FCR) is studied in this paper. As we know, fuzzy clustering classification is one of important and valid methods to knowledge discovery. One of problems in fuzzy clustering classification is to determine a certain fuzzy sample classification in given limited sample space. Another is its validity, that is to say, if the sample is resemble in sample space, its fuzzy type will be resemble too. In our research, firstly, using triangle arithmetic operator and triangle transference, we extend fuzzy equivalence relationship to fuzzy closeness relationship, and cluster. Secondly, importing fuzzy coverage based on fuzzy closeness relationship, we judge resemble type of resemble sample. Thirdly, we introduce the clustering classification method based on fuzzy closeness relationship and fuzzy coverage. The method can overcome information more loss in fuzzy equivalence. Finally, we test its feasibility. The approach is applied to knowledge discovery for risk prediction of electronic commerce market, good result has been gotten.
