Abstract:On the generalized tangent bundle of a smooth manifold, we study skew-symmetric endomorphism satisfying an arbitrary polynomial equation with real constant coefficients. We study the compatibility of these structures with the de Rham operator and the Courant-Dorfman bracket. In particular we isolate several conditions that when restricted to the motivating example of generalized almost complex structure are equivalent to the notion of integrability.

Abstract:We show that there is no transitive Anosov diffeomorphism with the global product structure, which is homotopic to a product of pseudo-Anosov diffeomorphisms, on a product of two closed surfaces each of which has genus greater than or equal to two.

Abstract:We construct Anosov diffeomorphisms on manifolds that are homeomorphic toinfranilmanifolds yet have exotic smooth structures. These manifolds areobtained from standard infranilmanifolds by connected summing with certainexotic spheres. Our construction produces Anosov diffeomorphisms of highcodimension on infranilmanifolds with irreducible exotic smooth structures.

Abstract:1. Introduction.Let M be a compact complex manifold of dimension n, H(M) the complex Lie group o all automorphisms of M and )(M)the complex Lie algebra o all holomorphic vector fields of M. In case when c(M) is positive, the first author defined in [11] a character f:(M)--C which is intrinsically defined and vanishes i M admits a Khler Einstein metric.The purpose of the present note is twofold.First we generalize the definition of f to obtain a linear map F:I (GL(n, C))---I(H(M))where, or a complex Lie group G, Ip(G) denotes the set of all holo- morphic G-invariant symmetric polynomials o degree p.The original f coincides with F(c/) up to a coastant.Secondly we give an inter- pretation ot f in terms o secondary characteristic classes of Chern- Simons [9] and Cheeger-Simons [8].More precisely we show that f appears as the so-called Godbillon-Vey invariant o certain complex foliations.We also have real analogue of the linear map F for compact group actions.However this case can be derived rom the recent papers by Atiyah-Bott [2] and Berline-Vergne [4], which we noticed ater we have finished this work.Very interestingly both o the above works [2] [4] are inspired by Duistermaat-Heckman's paper [10] in symplectic geometry while we started rom Khlerian geometry.In 7 we shall derive a Duistermaat-Heckman type ormula replacing a symplectic form and a hamiltonian vector fields by a Khler orm and a holo- morphic vector field.2. Abstract:Let $\mathcal{L}$ be a finite-dimensional semisimple Lie algebra of rank $N$ over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $0$. Associated to $\mathcal{L}$ is a family of polynomial folding maps $$\textsf{F}_{n}:\mathbb{A}^N\to\mathbb{A}^N\quad\text{for}\quad n\ge1$$ having the property that $\textsf{F}_{n}$ has topological degree $n^N$ and $$\textsf{F}_{m}\circ\textsf{F}_{n}=\textsf{F}_{n}\circ\textsf{F}_{m}\quad\text{for all}\quad m,n\ge1.$$ We derive formulas for the leading terms of the folding maps on $\mathbb{A}^2$ associated to the Lie algebras $\mathcal{A}_2$, $\mathcal{B}_2$, and $\mathcal{G}_2$, and we use these formulas to compute the affine automorphism group of each folding map.

Abstract:Following Thurston's geometrisation picture in dimension three, we study geometric manifolds in a more general setting in arbitrary dimensions, with respect to the following problems: (i) The existence of maps of non-zero degree (domination relation or Gromov's order); (ii) The Gromov-Thurston monotonicity problem for numerical homotopy invariants with respect to the domination relation; (iii) The existence of Anosov diffeomorphisms (Anosov-Smale conjecture).

Abstract:Let f:Td -> Td be an Anosov diffeomorphism whose linearization A is an element of GL(d,Z) is irreducible. Assume that f is also absolutely partially hyperbolic where a weak stable subbundle is considered as the center subbundle. We show that if the strong stable subbundle and the unstable subbundle are jointly integrable, then f is dynamically coherent and all foliations match corresponding linear foliation under the conjugacy to the linearization A. Moreover, f admits the finest dominated splitting in the weak stable subbundle with dimensions matching those for A$A$, and it has spectral rigidity along all these subbundles. In dimension 4, we also obtain a similar result by grouping the weak stable and unstable subbundles together as a center subbundle and assuming joint integrability of the strong stable and unstable subbundles. As an application, we show that for every symplectic diffeomorphism f is an element of Diff(omega)(2)(T-4) that is C-1-close to an irreducible nonconformal automorphism A is an element of Sp(4,Z), the extremal subbundles of f$f$ are jointly integrable if and only if f is smoothly conjugate to A$A$.

Abstract:The complex projective structures considered is this article are compact curves locally modeled on $\mathbb{CP}^1$. To such a geometric object, modulo marked isomorphism, the monodromy map associates an algebraic one: a representation of its fundamental group into $\operatorname{PGL}(2,\mathbb{C})$, modulo conjugacy. This correspondence is neither surjective nor injective. Nonetheless, it is a local diffeomorphism [Hejhal, 1975]. We generalize this theorem to projective structures admitting poles (without apparent singularity and with fixed residues): the corresponding monodromy map (including Stokes data) is a local biholomorphism.

Abstract:Let $M$ be a closed symplectic manifold of dimension $2n$ with non-ellipticity. We can define an almost Kähler structure on $M$ by using the given symplectic form. Hence, we have a $\G=\pi_1(M)$-invariant almost Kähler structure on the universal covering, $\ti M$, of $M$. Using Darboux coordinate charts, we globally deform the given almost Kähler structure on $\ti M$ off a Lebesgue measure zero subset to obtain a $\G$-invariant Lipschitz Kähler flat structure on $\ti M$ which is $\G$-homotopy equivalent to the given almost Kähler structure. Analogous to Teleman's $L^2$-Hodge decomposition on PL manifolds or Lipschitz Riemannian manifolds, we give a $L^2$-Hodge decomposition theorem on $\ti M$ with respect to the Lipschitz Kähler flat metric. Using an argument of Gromov, we give a vanishing theorem for $L^2$ harmonic $p$-forms, $p\not=n$ (resp. a non-vanishing theorem for $L^2$ harmonic $n$-forms) on $\ti M$, then the signed Euler characteristic satisfies $(-1)^n\chi(M)\geq0$ (resp. $(-1)^n\chi(M)>0$). Similarly, for any closed even dimensional Riemannian manifold $(M, g)$, we can construct a $\G$-invariant Lipschitz Kähler flat structure on the universal covering, $(\ti M, \ti g)$, of $(M, g)$ which is $\G$-homotopy equivalent to and quasi-isometric to the metric $\ti g$. As an application, using Gromov's method we show that the Chern-Hopf conjecture holds true in closed even dimensional Riemannian manifolds with nonpositive curvature (resp. strictly negative curvature), it gives a positive answer to a Yau's problem due to S. S. Chern and H. Hopf.

Abstract:Let $M_i$, for $i=1,2$, be a Kähler manifold, and let $G$ be a Lie group acting on $M_i$ by Kähler isometries. Suppose that the action admits a momentum map $\mu_i$ and let $N_i:=\mu_i^{-1}(0)$ be a regular level set. When the action of $G$ on $N_i$ is proper and free, the Meyer--Marsden--Weinstein quotient $P_i:=N_i/G$ is a Kähler manifold and $\pi_i:N_i\to P_i$ is a principal fiber bundle with base $P_i$ and characteristic fiber $G$. In this paper, we define an almost complex structure for the manifold $N_1\times N_2$ and give necessary and sufficient conditions for its integrability. In the integrable case, we find explicit holomorphic charts for $N_1\times N_2$. As applications, we consider a non integrable almost-complex structure on the product of two complex Stiefel manifolds and the infinite Calabi-Eckmann manifolds $\mathbb S^{2n+1}\times S(\mathcal{H})$, for $n\geq 1$, where $S(\mathcal{H})$ denotes the unit sphere of an infinite dimensional Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$

Anosov diffeomorphisms of open surfaces

Abstract:We study the existence of Anosov diffeomorphisms on complete open surfaces. We show that under the assumptions of density of periodic points and uniform geometry that such diffeomorphisms have a system of Margulis measures, which are a holonomy invariant and dynamically invariant system of measures along the stable and unstable leaves. This shows that there can be no such diffeomorphism with a global product structure.

Abstract:A free-by-cyclic group can often be viewed as a mapping torus of a free group automorphism (monodromy) in multiple ways. What dynamical properties must these monodromies share, and to what extent are they invariant under quasi-isometries? We give a new proof using cyclic splittings that the growth type of a monodromy is a geometric invariant of the free-by-cyclic group; we also characterise the degree of polynomial growth using slender splittings. For exponential growth, we conjecture that the nesting of attracting laminations is a geometric invariant.

Abstract:We give several equivalent characterizations of orthogonal subbundles of the generalized tangent bundle defined, up to B-field transform, by almost product and local product structures. We also introduce a pure spinor formalism for generalized CRF-structure and investigate the resulting decomposition of the de Rham operator. As applications we give a characterization of generalized complex manifolds that are locally the product of generalized complex factors and discuss infinitesimal deformations of generalized CRF-structures.

A characterization of Anosov rational forms in nilpotent Lie algebras associated to graphs

Abstract:Anosov diffeomorphisms are an important class of dynamical systems with many peculiar properties. Ever since they were introduced in the sixties, it has been an open question which manifolds can admit such diffeomorphisms, where tori of dimension greater than or equal to two are the typical examples. It is conjectured that the only manifolds supporting an Anosov diffeomorphism are finitely covered by a nilmanifold, a type of manifold closely related to rational nilpotent Lie algebras. In this paper, we study the existence of Anosov diffeomorphisms for a large class of these nilpotent Lie algebras, namely the ones that can be realized as a rational form in a Lie algebra associated to a graph. From a given simple undirected graph, one can construct a complex $c$-step nilpotent Lie algebra, which in general contains different non-isomorphic rational forms, as described by the authors in previous work. We determine precisely which forms correspond to a nilmanifold admitting an Anosov diffeomorphism, leading to the first class of complex nilpotent Lie algebras having several non-isomorphic rational forms and for which all the ones that are Anosov are described. In doing so, we put a new perspective on certain classifications in low dimensions and correct a false result in the literature.

Abstract:G-structures and Cartan geometries are two major approaches to the description of geometric structures (in the sense of differential geometry) on manifolds of some fixed dimension $n$. We show that both descriptions naturally extend to the setting of manifolds of dimension $\geq n$ which are endowed with a distinguished involutive distribution $F$ of rank $n$. The resulting ``partial'' structures are most naturally interpreted as smooth families of standard G-structures or Cartan geometries on the leaves of the foliation defined by $F$. We prove that for the special class of AHS-structures (also known as $|1|$-graded parabolic geometries) the construction of a canonical Cartan geometry associated to a G-structure extends to this general setting. As an application, we prove that for partial AHS-structures there is an analog of the machinery of BGG sequences. This constructs sequences of differential operators of arbitrarily high order intrinsic to the structures. Under appropriate flatness conditions, these sequence are fine resolutions of sheaves which locally can be realized as pullbacks of sheaves on local leaf spaces for the foliation defined by $F$.

Abstract:Let $f$ be a holomorphic endomorphism of $\mathbb{P}^2$, let $T$ be its Green current and $\mu=T\wedge T$ be its equilibrium measure. We prove that if $\mu$ has a local product structure with respect to $T$ then (an iterate of) $f$ preserves a local foliation $\mathcal{F}$ on a neighborhood of $\mathrm{Supp}(T )\backslash\mathcal{E}$,where $\mathcal{E}$ denotes the exceptional set of f . If the local foliation $\mathcal{F}$ extends through $\mathcal{E}$,then it extends to $\mathbb{P}^2$ and is an invariant pencil of lines.

Abstract:The paper studies the complex 1-dimensional polynomial vector fields with real coefficients under topological orbital equivalence preserving the separatrices of the pole at infinity. The number of generic strata is determined, and a complete parametrization of these strata is given in terms of a modulus formed by a combinatorial and an analytic part. The bifurcation diagram is described for the degree 4. A realization theorem is proved for any generic modulus.

Abstract:This thesis consists of three chapters. In Chapter one, we introduce some notionsand definitions for basic concepts of the theory of integrable bi-Hamiltonian systems.Brief statements of several open problems related to our main results are alsomentioned in this part.In Chapter two, we applied the so-called Jordan–Kronecker decomposition theoremto study algebraic properties of the pencil P generated by two constant compatiblePoisson structures on a vector space. In particular, we study the linearautomorphism group GP that preserves P. In classical symplectic geometry, manyfundamental results are based on the symplectic group, which preserves the symplecticstructure. Therefore in the theory of bi-Hamiltonian structures, we hope GP alsoplays a fundamental role.In Chapter three, we study one of the famous Poisson pencils which is sometimescalled “argument shift pencil”. This pencil is defined on the dual space g∗ ofan arbitrary Lie algebra g.This pencil is generated by the Lie-Poisson bracket { , } and constant bracket{ , }a for a ∈ g∗. Thus we may apply the Jordan–Kronecker decomposition theoremto introduce the so-called Jordan–Kronecker invariants of a finite-dimensional Liealgebra g. These invariants can be understood as the algebraic type of the canonicalJordan–Kronecker form for the “argument shift pencil” at a generic point.Jordan–Kronecker invariants are found for all low-dimensional Lie algebras(dim g ≤ 5) and can be used to construct the families of polynomials in bi-involution.The results are found to be useful in the discussion of the existence of a completefamily of polynomials in bi-involution w.r.t. these two brackets { , } and { , }a.
Polynomial functions for locally compact group actions

Abstract:Consider a locally compact group $G$ and a locally compact space $X$. A local right action of $G$ on $X$ is a continuous map $(x,p)\mapsto x\cdot p$ from an open subset $\Gamma$ of the Cartesian product $X\times G$ to $X$ satisfying certain obvious properties. A global right action of $G$ on $X$ gives rise to a global left action of $G$ on the space $C_c(X)$ of continuous complex functions with compact support in $X$ by the formula $p\,\cdot f:x\mapsto f(x\cdot p)$. In the case of a local action, one still can define $p\,\cdot f$ in $C_c(X)$ by this formula for $f\in C_c(X)$ and $p$ in a neighborhood $V_f$ of the identity in $G$. This yields a local left action of $G$ on $C_c(X)$. Given a local right action of $G$ on $X$, a function $f\in C_c(X)$ is called polynomial if there is a neighborhood $V$ of the identity, contained in $V_f$, and a finite-dimensional subspace $F$ of $C_c(X)$ containing all the functions $v\cdot f$ for $v\in V$. In this paper we study such polynomial functions. If $G$ acts on itself by multiplication, we are also interested in the local actions obtained by restricting it to an open subset of $G$. This is the typical situation that is encountered in our paper on bicrossproducts of groups with a compact open subgroup. In fact, the need for a better understanding of polynomial functions for that case has led us to develop the theory in general here.
