Abstract:Objective:To measure the validity and reliability of the Chinese version of Mind-Wandering Questionnaire(MWQ) in university students.Methods:506 university students were assessed with MWQ.Of these students,102 were re-tested after two weeks.Results:The exploratory factor analysis showed that MWQ consisted of one factor,accounting for48.91% of the total variance.The confirmatory factor analysis identified a single factor model.Mindfulness was negativelycorrelated with the mindfulness,positive affect,and life satisfaction.In contrast,mind-wandering was positively correlatedwith negative affect.Conclusion:The Chinese version of MWQ has adequate psychometric quality,which can be used toassess mind-wandering in Chinese university students.

Abstract:Objective To explore the reliability and validity of the preliminary revision of the Philadelphia Mindfulness Scale (PHLMS) in Chinese undergraduates.Methods Considering the differences in the cultural and linguistic,the PHLMS was translated and used to conduct a questionnaire survey among 1 221 undergraduates.All participants were also surveyed with five facets mindfulness questionnaire (FFMQ),the white bear suppression inventory (WBSI) and acceptance and action questionnaire-2rd edition (AAQ-Ⅱ) as conduct reliability and validity test.Results The exploratory factor analysis showed that PHLMS could extract two factors,and the cumulative variance contribution rate was 40.355％.The confirmatory factor analysis indicated good fit (x2/df=2.781,CFI =0.945,NFI =0.884,IFI =0.922,TLI =0.906,CFI =0.922,RMSEA =0.053).The internal consistency reliability of the awareness subscales was 0.785,and the internal consistency reliability of the acceptance subscales was 0.772.The correlation coefficients among the PHLMS and FFMQ was significant(r=0.398,P＜0.01).The acceptance subscales were significantly negatively correlated with WBSI and AAQ-Ⅱ(r=-0.458,-0.288,P＜0.01).Conclusion The validity and reliability of the Chinese version of PHLMS meet the measurement criterion.
Chinese Version of the Responses to Positive Affect Questionnaire: Testing the Factor Structure, Reliability, and Validity in A College Student Sample

Abstract:This study tested the psychometrics of the Chinese version of the Responses to Positive Affect Questionnaire among 915 Chinese college students with an average age of 20.3 yr. (SD = 1.6). The original three-factor model with the factors dampening, emotion-focused positive rumination, and self-focused rumination was supported using exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses. All subscales showed good internal reliability, as well as evidence for convergent and incremental validity with measures of ego-resiliency, life satisfaction, and mental health symptoms. Finally, a series of hierarchical regression analyses indicated that the three subscales, especially dampening, accounted for additional unique variance in psychological adjustment above and beyond resilience. These findings generally suggested that the Chinese Responses to Positive Affect Questionnaire possesses acceptable psychometric properties. Implications for counseling, limitations, and suggestions for future study were presented.

Abstract:PURPOSE:The aim of this study was to assess the validity and reliability of the Chinese version of mental vulnerability questionnaire (MVQ) for undergraduate students.DESIGN AND METHODS:A cross-sectional design was conducted in a sample of 1217 undergraduate students.FINDINGS:The Cronbach's α of the overall scale was 0.901, the split-half reliability coefficient was 0.742, and the test-retest reliability coefficient was 0.935. Three-factors model was got by using exploratory factor analysis, the communalities of the items were 0.646 to 0.848, explaining 75.736% variance. With confirmatory factor analysis the fit indices were chi-square/degree of freedom (CMIN/DF) = 2.796, comparative fit index (CFI) = 0947, GFI = 0.920, adjustedgoodness of fit index (AGFI) = 0.902, incremental fit index (IFI) = 0.947, root mean squareerror of approximation (RMSEA) = 0.055, Tucker Lewis index (TLI) = 0.940, root mean residual (RMR) = 0.051.PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS:The Mental Vulnerability Questionnaire has a good reliability and validity, it can be considered as a tool to evaluate the mental vulnerability for undergraduate students.

Abstract:Objective:To develop a Chinese translation of the Mood and Anxiety Symptoms Questionnaire-Short Form(MASQ-SF) and evaluate the reliability and the validity.Methods:The original version of the Mood and Anxiety Symp-toms Questionnaire(MASQ-SF) was translated into Chinese and administered to 712 Chinese students between ages 17 and 23.Mean and standard deviations of the MASQ-SF total scale and subscales,internal consistency,test-retest and factorial validity were analyzed.Results:The Cronbach's α coefficient of the MASQ-SF was 0.94;the test-retest reliability coef-ficient was 0.82;the mean interitem correlation coefficients ranged from 0.24 to 0.45;the correlation coefficients among the four factors ranged from 0.129 to 0.154;the NFI(0.90)、CFI(0.90)、GFI(0.92)、REMEA(0.07),all met the standards of psychometrics for adequacy of fit.Conclusion:As the Chinese translation of the MASQ-SF indicates high levels of relia-bility and validity,it is appropriate for assessing anxiety and depression in China.

Abstract:This article reports the adaptation and analysis of Pintrich's Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) in Hong Kong. First, this study examined the psychometric qualities of the existing Chinese version of MSLQ (MSLQ-CV). Based on this examination, this study developed a revised Chinese version of MSLQ (MSLQ-RCV) for junior secondary students in Hong Kong. Confirmatory factor analysis and Graded Response Model (GRM) were used to examine the internal consistency, construct validity, differential item functioning (DIF), and differential test functioning (DTF) of the revised instrument, which contains six factors and 50 items. Compared with the existing MSLQ-CV, the factor structure of MSLQ-RCV was expanded to incorporate two new factors: extrinsic value and peer learning. The reasons for these amendments and implications of the findings are discussed.

Abstract:Objective To develop a Chinese translation of the Mood and Anxiety Symptoms Questionnaire-Short Form (MASQ-SF) and evaluate the reliability and the validity in a sample of Chinese middle school students. Methods The questionnaire was administered to 682 middle school students. Internal consistency, testretest and confirmatory factor analyses were analyzed. Results The internal consistency reliability for the total scale was 0.95, and for the four factors ranged from 0.84 to 0.92 and the one month test-retest reliability coefficient for the total questionnaire was 0.78. The mean inter-item correlation coefficient for the MASQ-SF was 0.24,and the mean inter-item correlation coefficient for the four factors ranged from 0. 20 to 0.51. And the results of confirmatory factor analyses (IFI 0.91, CFI 0.92, TLI 0.91, RMSEA 0.06). The factors loadings ranged from 0. 28 to 0.71. The squared multiple correlations were 0.12 to 0.53. Indicated that the four-factor structure of the MASQ-SF was suitable for the Chinese middle school sample. Conclusion The Chinese version of the MASQ-SF with acceptable psychometric quality,and appropriate for assessing anxiety and depression in Chinese adolescence.

Abstract:Objective:To evaluate the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the Short Mood and Feelings Questionnaire(SMFQ).Methods:Using stratified cluster sampling,a total of 1728 students from four middle schools were tested.The split-half reliability,test-retest reliability,internal consistency reliability were reexamined.A factor analysis procedure was used to explore the factor structure of SMFQ.The criterion-related validity was evaluated through correlating SMFQ with Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire(SDQ) and Screen for Child Anxiety Related Emotional Disorders(SCARED).Thirty students completed SMFQ retest 4 weeks later.Results:The Cronbach's α coefficient was 0.89(P<0.01);the test-retest reliability was 0.84(P<0.01).Significant correlations were found between SMFQ and SDQ subscales of emotional symptoms(r=0.67) and SCARED(r=0.75).Exploratory factor analysis extracted 2 components,and the percentage of variance explained was 50.6%.Confirmatory Factor Analysis showed that the fit indexes for χ2/df,RMSEA,GFI,AGFI,NNFI,CFI were 7.28,0.06,0.96,0.94,0.97 and 0.98 respectively.Conclusion:The SFMQ have good psychometrics properties,with adequate reliability and validity,and canbe is applicable to assess the mood of Chinese adolescents.

Abstract:The present study aimed to investigate the psychometric properties of the Freiburg Mindfulness Inventory (FMI) in a nonclinical Chinese college student sample. Effective data were collected from 718 students of four distinct universities in north, northwest, southeast, northeast China, and 124 of them were retested after 2 weeks. The Chinese version of Freiburg Mindfulness Inventory (FMI-13) had acceptable internal consistency and test–retest reliability. Confirmatory factor analysis showed that the two-factor solution was better than one-factor solution. The scores of revised FMI-13 had significant negative correlation with the trait of anxiety and depression, and positive correlation with self-esteem, and relations between mindfulness and anxiety, depression, and self-esteem were more due to the acceptance factor than the presence factor. The Chinese version of FMI-13 has acceptable psychometric quality and it can be used to measure mindfulness in Chinese population.

Abstract:Mindfulness training is increasingly popular in China. The challenge of evaluating mindfulness practice objectively and accurately has attracted research attention. However, previous studies in China focused primarily on the quantity rather than the quality of mindfulness training. The Practice Quality - Mindfulness (PQ-M) can provide a solution. Consequently, the present study aimed to validate and assess the internal consistency and construct validity of the Chinese version of the Practice Quality - Mindfulness (Ch-PQ-M) in a non-clinical sample. One hundred and sixty participants (female:81) were recruited to practice 20 min of mindfulness training daily for four consecutive days and to complete the Ch-PQ-M, the State Anxiety Inventory, and the Peace of Mind Scale immediately after each mindfulness practice. The Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire, the Trait Anxiety Inventory, and the Positive and Negative Affect Scale were administered pre- and post- 4-day treatment. Construct validity (confirmatory factor analysis), internal consistency, test–retest reliability, predictive validity and construct validity were examined. Ch-PQ-M demonstrated acceptable internal consistency and test–retest reliability. Confirmatory factor analysis supported the established two-factor model (perseverance and receptivity). The Ch-PQ-M attention score was significantly associated with changes of trait anxiety. It improved with short-term mindfulness practice. The perseverance score consistently correlates with scores on peace of mind, state anxiety, trait anxiety, and observe and nonreactivity. The receptivity score remains consistently correlated with the nonjudging. These findings suggest that Ch-PQ-M is a valid instrument for evaluating individual mindfulness quality for a single-session practice. Our findings suggest that Ch-PQ-M (especially for the Ch-PQ-M perseverance score) has acceptable psychometric properties and is a reliable and valid instrument for assessing mindfulness practice quality in the Chinese cultural context.

Abstract:Objective: To evaluate the reliability and validity of the Chinese adolescents version of the Mood and Feelings Questionnaire. Methods: The original English version of MFQ was translated into Chinese and administered to 2592 Chinese adolescents. Results: The split-half reliability was 0.90, the Cronbach α was 0.93, and the test-retest reli- ability was 0.84. Significant correlations were found between MFQ and DSRSC(r=0.84) and SCARED(r=0.79). Exploratory factor analysis extracted 5 components, and the percentage of variance explained was 48.8%. Confirmatory Factor Analysis showed that the fit indexes for χ2/df, RMSEA, GFI, AGFI, NNFI, CFI were 4.59、0.05、0.91、0.89、0.97、0.97. Conclusion: The MFQ is found to have good psychometrics properties. The MFQ is applicable to assess the mood of Chinese children.

Abstract:Mind-wandering is associated with adverse effects on life satisfaction. However, the potential mechanism that might explain the relationship between mind-wandering and life satisfaction is unclear. Furthermore, although attention problems are widespread among adolescents, few studies have investigated mind-wandering on a sample of youth. Thus, in this study, we first sought to validate the Chinese version of the Mind-Wandering Questionnaire and then investigated the mediating role of self-esteem in the relationship between mind-wandering and life satisfaction. A total of 1331 Chinese adolescents across middle school and high school participated. The hypothesized model was tested using structural equation modeling. The results suggested that the Chinese version of the Mind-Wandering Questionnaire is a suitable tool to measure the trait levels of mind-wandering for adolescents. Notably, supporting the study hypotheses, the negative association between mind-wandering and life satisfaction was mediated by self-esteem. Specifically, adolescents with a tendency to undertake mind-wandering reported low levels of self-esteem, which were then associated with decreased life satisfaction. The findings emphasized the role of youth self-esteem in explaining the relationship between mind-wandering and life satisfaction.

Abstract:Objective:To introduce the Meaning in Life Questionnaire(MLQ)developed by Steger et al,and to examine its reliability and validity in Chinese college students.Methods:Totally 307 students from Peking University completed a battery of structured questionnaires.Part of the data randomly selected(n=150)was conducted Exploratory Factor Analysis and the other(n=157)was used in Confirmatory Factor Analysis.The Marlowe-Crowne Social Desirability Scale(MCSD),Future-oriented Coping Inventory(FCI),Positive and Negative Affect Scale(PANAS),Self-Rating Depression Scale(SDS),Self-Esteem Scale(SES)and General Well-Being Schedule(GWB)were used to test the criterion validity of the MLQ.Results:(1)Exploratory Factor Analysis supported a 2-factor structure which consisted of Presence of meaning(MLQ-P)and Search for meaning(MLQ-S),and their cumulative contribution rate was 57.22%.The range of factor loading was between 0.579 and 0.829.Confirmatory Factor Analysis confirmed the hypothesized 2-factor model(χ2=43.81,P<0.05;GFI=0.94,AGFI=0.90,NFI=0.93,CFI=0.97,IFI=0.97,RMSEA=0.066).(2)The internal consistencies were good for the overall scale(Cronbach' s alpha=0.71)and the subscales(Cronbach' s alpha=0.81 and 0.72,respectively).(3)MLQ-P score was positively correlated with SES,GWB,positive affect,proactive coping,preventive coping and MCSD(r=0.19~0.59,Ps<0.01),while negatively correlated with SDS and Negative Affect(r=-0.50,-0.18,Ps<0.01).MLQ-S had positive correlations with positive affect,proactive coping and positive affect(r=0.20,0.31,and 0.15,Ps<0.01).Conclusion:The Chinese version of MLQ is reliable and valid for application in China.

Abstract:The Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) is one of the most widely used instruments to measure students' motivation and self‐regulated learning. However, the MSLQ was developed and has been predominantly used in the Western context, is a domain‐general measure, and is quite lengthy. Hence, adapting the MSLQ to the Chinese educational context, validating its application in specific subjects, and developing a short form would be an optimal way to improve its accessibility. This study aimed to investigate the psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the MSLQ in mathematics learning (i.e., MSLQ‐C) and develop a short form (i.e., MSLQ‐CS) using set exploratory structural equation modeling. The sample consisted of 563 senior secondary students in China. Results demonstrated that both MSLQ‐C and MSLQ‐CS showed acceptable construct validity, reliability, and concurrent validity. Furthermore, structural relationships and interrelationships among the subscales and their relationships with mathematics achievement were highly similar for MSLQ‐C and MSLQ‐CS. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

Abstract:This study investigated the psychometric properties of an adapted Chinese version of Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) using exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. Data were collected from 611 college students from two Chinese universities on the scales of Motivation and Learning Strategies. Results suggested that cross-cultural adaptation and modification were necessary when addressing the transferability of self-regulated learning (SRL) models from Western culture to Eastern culture, particularly in the Chinese educational context. The adapted models indicated absence of Intrinsic Goal Orientation, ambiguity of Peer Learning, and split of managing resources of study time and place among Chinese adult learners. Re-specified models were tested and adequate reliability and model fit indices were reported in MSLQ for Chinese adult learners (MSLQ-CAL) with 52 items. These modifications were discussed with theoretical and empirical perspectives related to SRL.

Abstract:Objective:To develop social adaptability questionnaire in college students ,and assess mental health edu‐cation intervention .Methods:Literature review and behavior event interview were used .Adaptive behavior characteris‐tics as the observation index ,596 students (291 boys ,305 girls)from six universities with Chinese ,science ,engineer‐ing ,medicine ,sports majors in I to IV grades were selected .A preliminary questionnaire was formed on the items a‐nalysis and the preliminary questionnaire investigated 500 undergraduate from two university with four grades to form a formal questionnaire .At last ,the formal questionnaire randomly tested 800 undergraduates in order to conduct confirmatory factor analysis .Results:① The questionnaire was consist of open confident ,objective reality ,independ‐ent self -esteem ,stress response ,situational control ,open -minded and tolerant ,etc .The six subscales constituted cumulative variance contribution rate of 58 0.89% ② Confirmatory factor analysis showed that six factors fit better (χ2/df=4 3.07 ,GFI=0 8.36 ,CFI=0 8.42 ,IFI=0 8.42 ,RMSEA=0 0.6);③ Coefficientαcoefficients in the total scale and subscale were 0 9.68 ,0 8.92 ,0 8.93 ,0 8.78 ,0 8.09 ,0 8.34 ,0 7.42 .Conclusion:The questionnaire has good validity and reliability ,it can be used to measure college students'social adaptability .
Validation of a Short-Form Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire Instrument in China

Abstract:The Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ) developed by Baer and colleagues has been widely used owing to its satisfactory psychometric properties. Because there was not yet a short-form version of the FFMQ (SF-FFMQ) that could be utilized in work settings available in China, we developed a Chinese SF-FFMQ. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) supported a five-factor structure of our Chinese SF-FFMQ in two Chinese samples (Sample 1, N = 535; Sample 2, N = 391). The internal consistencies of the facets and the whole scale were acceptable. The predictive validity of this questionnaire was affirmed. Overall, the mindfulness facets correlated with related constructs including depression symptoms, anxiety symptoms, employee life well-being, employee workplace well-being, and employee psychological well-being. In sample 2, which consisted of participants employed by local companies, we found that mindfulness mediated a positive relationship between servant leadership and employees' satisfaction with work-family balance. In conclusion, our Chinese SF-FFMQ was found to be a valid and reliable measurement tool and our results support its use in both research and practice in clinical and work settings in China.
