Abstract:Drag reduction is one of the most common methods used to reduce the consumption of energy and resources, especially in marine vessels and fluid channels. Lubricant‐impregnated anisotropic slippery surfaces (LIASSs), which are bionic surfaces containing micro/nanostructured arrays impregnated with lubricating liquids and fluorinated oils, are innovative and offer promising application prospects because of their robust omniphobic properties and drag reduction effects. Inspired by the bionic fish scale surfaces containing periodic micro/nanostructured arrays, here, we propose the application of LIASSs in the simulation of the mucus structure of fish using nanosecond laser scanning ablation of aluminum–magnesium alloys. Different hydrophobic and oleophobic properties are presented on the LIASSs along the parallel direction and the reverse direction of bionic fish scale micro/nanostructures. Two directions parallel to the fish moving are defined as directions A and B. A self‐assembled solid–liquid interface friction test device with high precision was set up to demonstrate the drag reduction property of LIASSs. The drag reduction ratios were found to be 51.09 and 44.88% along directions A and B, respectively. With the increase in the velocity, the drag reduction ratios of LIASSs can also be kept near 50%. This is due to the stability and robustness of LIASSs at high water flow velocities. Furthermore, we systematically established theoretical simulation models to study the drag reduction mechanism of LIASSs in laminar flows. The models explain a plausible stable drag reduction mechanism in a theoretical liquid–liquid phase repellency interaction system. Liquid‐liquid repellency has a lubricating effect that can increase mobility and reduce viscous resistance. In this way, it improves the fluidity of the liquid and reduces drag. A three‐dimensional finite element method was used to build a model to simulate the anisotropic drag reduction effect of LIASSs along directions A and B. We observed that the anisotropic bionic fish scale surfaces containing periodic micro/nanostructured arrays play a significant role in drag reduction, and that the drag reduction ratio in direction A was superior to that in direction B for the same flow velocity. The results of the simulation were closely consistent with the experiments results. The observations are seen to be correct and effective both theoretically and experimentally in the drag reduction using LIASSs. The study demonstrates that durable LIASSs represent an effective strategy in drag reduction and provides new methods to minimize energy consumption, increase economic benefits, and develop alternative green methods in liquid directional transport, marine vessels, microfluidic devices, and microchannels.This article is protected by copyright.
