Abstract:The thesis was defended by the author in University of Angers (France). It consists of four parts. The fist part (in French) is introductory and is devoted to relation between quantum groups, integrable systems and statistical models. In the second part (in English) the transition function of the periodic Toda chain is interpreted in terms of the formalism of rational Lax operators. In the third part (in French) one compares two elliptic quantum groups and one conclude that they belong to two different bialgebra categories. The fourth part (in English) contains a construction of the partition function of the SOS model in terms of the projections of an elliptic quantum group.

Abstract:The article presents several methods for the arithmetic of finite abelian groups. We introduce a tool - already used by Delsarte in [1] as I found out later - analogous to Dirichlet's convolution to obtain combinatorial results on these groups. Using this convolution and some group actions, we deduce an interesting fact : the number of generating subsets of a finite abelian group is always a multiple of the order of the group. Eventually, we prove a theorem about the generation of the group of permutations of an abelian group G using only transpositions and translations from the group G.

Abstract:This is the Habilitation Thesis manuscript presented at Besançon on January 5, focusing on Matrix Analysis, Matrix Inequalities and Matrix Decompositions. There are also some topics in (Hilbert space) Operator Theory. The text should be of interest for a large audience of researchers and students in pure and applied mathematics. We may divide it into five parts: 1) Chapter 1 is an introductory chapter, some results from the period 1999-2010 are given, and a few conjectures are proposed. 2) Chapters 2-4 deal with matrix inequalities, Chapter 2 is concerned with norm inequalities and logmajorization and Chapters 3-4 with functional calculus and a unitary orbit technique that I started to develop in 2003. 3) Chapter 5 is a time-break in infinite dimensional Hilbert space operators, the essential numerical range plays a key role. 4) Chapters 6-8 establish several decompositions for partitioned matrices, especially for positive block matrices. Some norm inequalities involving the numerical range are derived. 5) Chapter 9 may be of special interest for students : a proof of the Spectral Theorem for bounded operators is derived from the matrix case.

Abstract:These are notes of a talk I gave in a seminar at the University of Pennsylvania summarizing results in the Habilitation by Jost Eschenburg on "Freie isometrische Aktionen auf kompakten Lie-Gruppen mit positiv gekruemmten Orbitraeumen". Due to the fact that it is published in a not easily accesible journal (and is written in German) some of the results of his Habilitation are not as well known as they deserve. Although the main results on new examples with positive curvature were later published elsewhere, it contains a wealth of further information about biquotients and a classification of equal rank biquotients of simple Lie groups. I have no intention to publish these notes, but post them as a service to the public. A scanned version of his Habilitation (written in German) is available on my homepage.

Abstract:This is a work in progress, far from being in its final form whose purpose is to investigate thoroughly the structure of Berkovich analytic curves and its relation with the semi-stable reduction theorem (of which a new proof is given here, starting from the local study of Berkovich curves) through the formalism of "triangulations". It has been already on the author's webpage for years, but it seems better to make it available on a public preprint server.

Abstract:Nous donnons des résultats d'équidistribution d'éléments de corps de fonctions sur des corps finis, et d'irrationnels quadratiques sur ces corps, dans leurs corps locaux complétés. Nous déduisons ces résultats de théorèmes d'équidistribution de perpendiculaires communes dans des quotients d'arbres par des réseaux de leur groupe d'automorphismes, démontrés à l'aide de propriétés ergodiques du flot géodésique discret. Non-Archimedean equidistribution and group actions on trees. We give equidistribution results of elements of function fields over finite fields, and of quadratic irrationals over these fields, in their completed local fields. We deduce these results from equidistribution theorems of common perpendiculars in quotients of trees by lattices in their automorphism groups, proved by using ergodic properties of the discrete geodesic flow.

Abstract:This document is a thesis presented for the ``Habilitation à diriger des recherches''. The first chapter provides some background and sketch the story of the classical Schur-Weyl duality and its quantum analogue involving the Hecke algebra. Quantum groups and their centralisers are discussed along with their connections with the braid group, the Yang-Baxter equation and the construction of link invariants. A quick review of several related notions of Hecke algebras concludes the first chapter. The second chapter presents the fused Hecke algebras and an application to the construction of solutions for the Yang-Baxter equation. The third chapter summarises recent works on diagonal centralisers of Lie algebras, and gives an application to the study of the missing label for sl(3). The last chapter discusses algebraic results on the Yokonuma-Hecke algebras and their applications to the study of link invariants.

Abstract:Dans cette these on s'attache a etudier les crochets de Rankin-Cohen et les deformations correspondantes selon de differents points de vue. On presente d'un cote une nouvelle interpretation des deformations de Rankin-Cohen via la theorie de Quantification par Deformations de Fedosov(en collaboration avec P. Bieliavsky et X. Tang). On parvient notamment a redemontrer un theoreme de Connes-Moscovici sur la deformation formelle des algebres sous l'action d'une algebre de Hopf H1 munie d'une structure projective. De l'autre cote on donne dans Chapitre III une interpretation detaillee des crochets de Rankin-Cohen via la theorie de representations unitaires de SL2(R) et en utilisant cette interpretation on etudie certaines proprietes des produits deformes, notamment l'unicite des produits construits par Cohen-Manin-Zagier et une propriete de separation du produit d'Eholzer. Dans le dernier chapitre on donne une demonstration elementaire de l'identite combinatoire qui est cruciale pour demontrer l'associativite dans l'approche de la question de deformations par Cohen-Manin-Zagier, Eholzer, et Connes-Moscovici.
Sur L'application D'albanese Des Variétés Algébriques Et Le Cône Nef Des Produits Symétriques De Courbes

Abstract:Cette these se compose de deux parties independantes. Dans la premiere partie, j'etudie les varietes irregulieres et en particulier les varietes de dimension d'Albanese maximale. Pour une variete X generale irregulieres, je donne une condition optimale sur les plurigenres P_m(X) pour que le morphisme d'Albanese soit surjectif et j'obtiens aussi une condition (plus restrictive) toujours optimale sur P_m(X) pour que le morphisme d'Albanese soit un espace fibre algebrique. Pour une variete de dimension d'Albanese maximale, avec quelques hypotheses supplementaires sur P_m(X) et q(X), je decris (birationnellement) sa structure geometrique. Puis j'etudie les morphismes entre les varietes de dimension d'Albanese maximale. Je fais aussi une remarque sur un travail de Chen et Hacon (Pareschi et Popa) pour montrer que, pour une variete de dimension d'Albanese maximale, I6K_XI induit un modele de sa tlbration d'Iitaka. Dans la seconde partie, j'etudie un probleme tres concret : la structure du cone nef du produit symetrique d'une courbe generique. Il y a un Theoreme interessant de Kouvidakis sur ce probleme. J'utilise une approche par degenerescence pour etudier ce probleme. L'ingredient principal est une idee de Ein et Lazarsfeld qu'ils ont utilisee pour etudier les constantes de Seshadri. J'ameliore le theoreme de Kouvidakis.
Some arithmetic and geometric aspects of algebraic cycles and motives

Abstract:This is my habilitation thesis. As the tradition wants, I tried to give an introduction of my field of research. I post it on the ArXiv with the hope it can be useful to young researchers looking for a short and friendly text on cohomologies of algebraic varieties, periods, algebraic cycles and motives. I might one day find the energy to expand these notes and maybe translate them in English. In the meantime, please feel free to ask questions. The first sections of this text propose an introduction to the theory, I tried to present points of view and examples which are not always stressed in the literature. A leitmotif of the thesis is the difference between phenomena in characteristic zero and those in positive characteristic. The main results are: the standard conjecture of Hodge type for abelian foufolds; the construction of a class of $p$-adic periods controlled by motivic Galois groups and for which it is possible to formulate a $p$-adic analog of the Grothendieck period conjecture; the standard conjecture of Lefschetz type for the Laza--Saccà--Voisin varieties and the Chow-Künneth conjecture for commutative group schemes. The techniques are based on $p$-adic Hodge theory, representation theory, perverse sheaves and motivic complexes à la Voevodsky.

Abstract:By using meromorphic "characters" and "logarithms" built up from Euler's Gamma function, and by using convergent factorial series, we will give, in a first pat, a "normal form" to the solutions of a singular regular system. It will enable us to define a connexion matrix for a regular singular system. Following one of Birkhoff's idea, we will then study its link with the problem of rational classification of system. In a second part, we will be interested in the confluence of fuchsian difference systems to differential systems. We will show more particularly how we can get, under some natural hypotheses, the local monodromies of a limit differential system from the connection matrices of the deformation that we consider. The use of factorial series (which can diverge as power series) distinguish regular singular difference systems from their differential and q-difference analogues and make their study more difficult. En choisissant des "caracteres" et des "logarithmes", meromorphes sur le plan complexe, construits a l'aide de la fonction Gamma d'Euler, et en utilisant des series de factorielles convergentes, nous sommes en mesure, dans une premiere partie, de donner une "forme normale" pour les solutions d'un systeme aux differences singulier regulier. Nous pouvons alors definir une matrice de connexion d'un tel systeme. Nous etudions ensuite, suivant une idee de G.D. Birkhoff, le lien de celles-ci avec le probleme de la classification rationnelle des systemes. Dans une deuxieme partie, nous nous interessons la confluence des systemes aux differences fuchsiens vers les systemes differentiels. Nous montrons en particulier comment, sous certaines hypotheses naturelles, on peut reconstituer les monodromies locales d'un systeme differentiel limite a partir des matrices meromorphes de connexion des deformations considerees. Le point central, qui distingue en profondeur les systemes aux differences singuliers reguliers de leurs homonymes differentiels ou aux q-differences et qui rend leur etude plus complexe, est la necessaire utilisation de series de factorielles (qui peuvent diverger en tant que series de puissances).

Abstract:Reflection groups, geometry of the discriminant and noncrossing partitions. When W is a well-generated complex reflection group, the noncrossing partition lattice NCP_W of type W is a very rich combinatorial object, extending the notion of noncrossing partitions of an n-gon. This structure appears in several algebraic setups (dual braid monoid, cluster algebras...). Many combinatorial properties of NCP_W are proved case-by-case, using the classification of reflection groups. It is the case for Chapoton's formula, expressing the number of multichains of a given length in the lattice NCP_W, in terms of the invariant degrees of W. This thesis work is motivated by the search for a geometric explanation of this formula, which could lead to a uniform understanding of the connections between the combinatorics of NCP_W and the invariant theory of W. The starting point is to use the Lyashko-Looijenga covering (LL), based on the geometry of the discriminant of W. In the first chapter, some topological constructions of Bessis are refined, allowing to relate the fibers of LL with block factorisations of a Coxeter element. Then we prove a transitivity property for the Hurwitz action of the braid group B_n on certain factorisations. Chapter 2 is devoted to certain finite polynomial extensions, and to properties about their Jacobians and discriminants. In Chapter 3, these results are applied to the extension defined by the covering LL. We deduce --- with a case-free proof --- formulas for the number of submaximal factorisations of a Coxeter element in W, in terms of the homogeneous degrees of the irreducible components of the discriminant and Jacobian for LL.

Abstract:Nous étudions dans cette thèse la fonctionnelle de Ginzburg-Landau dans $\R^3$ sur des couples de fonctions $(\phi, \overrightarrow{A})$ qui vérifient des conditions de périodicité de jauge en $x_3$ et selon un réseau discret de $(x_1,x_2)$. Nous montrons que le problème variationnel est équivalent au problème de la minimisation d'une autre fonctionnelle sur un tore. Dans le cadre de la démonstration, un fibré vectoriel non trivial apparaît. On se limite alors pour la suite à une quantification de 1. On montre ensuite que la fonctionnelle admet un minimum sur l'espace fonctionnel $H^{1}$ qui vérifie un système d'équations aux dérivées partielles appelé système de Ginzburg-Landau. Le minimum est $C^{\infty}$ par l'ellipticité du système d'équations de Ginzburg-Landau. On montre qu'il y a une bifurcation du couple $(0,0)$ pour le champ critique $H_{ext}=k$ où $k$ est un paramètre caractéristique du système. On étudie alors la stabilité de la solution bifurquée. On étudie la dépendance de l'énergie minimale à l'égard de la géométrie du tore. Enfin nous décrivons toutes les solutions du système d'équations de Ginzburg-Landau dans la limite $k$ tend vers l'infini. Dans le dernier chapitre, nous donnons pour notre modèle la structure du diagramme des phases en précisant quelles régions sont normales, supraconductrices pure, mixte.

Abstract:These notes are a slightly enlarged version of my habilitation thesis, where our research interest and main results in the past few years are summarized. Most of the discussion revolves around complex ordinary differential equations and their underling foliations, singularity theory and dynamical systems. Compared to the original text, a section containing some background material on holomorphic foliations was added. Also some new results obtained in the past three years that are in line with the one presented in the habilitation were included.
