Abstract:We revisit a subexponential bound for the $abc$ conjecture due to the first author, and we establish a variation of it using linear forms in logarithms. As an application, we prove an unconditional subexponential bound towards the $4$-terms $abc$ conjecture under a suitable hypothesis on the size of the variables.

Abstract:We prove that there exist infinitely many coprime numbers $a$, $b$, $c$ with $a+b=c$ and $c>\operatorname{rad}(abc)\exp(6.563\sqrt{\log c}/\log\log c)$. These are the most extremal examples currently known in the $abc$ conjecture, thereby providing a new lower bound on the tightest possible form of the conjecture. This builds on work of van Frankenhuysen (1999) who proved the existence of examples satisfying the above bound with the constant $6.068$ in place of $6.563$. We show that the constant $6.563$ may be replaced by $4\sqrt{2\delta/e}$ where $\delta$ is a constant such that all full-rank unimodular lattices of sufficiently large dimension $n$ contain a nonzero vector with $\ell_1$ norm at most $n/\delta$.

Abstract:For any fixed relatively prime positive integers $a,b$ and $c$ greater than 1, we consider the equation $a^x+b^y=c^z$ in positive integers $x,y$ and $z$. In this note, assuming the truth of $abc$-conjecture, for any fixed $c$ we prove that there is at most one solution to the equation, except for only finitely many pairs of $a$ and $b$. This answers a question in the paper of Miyazaki and Pink [T. Miyazaki and I. Pink, Number of solutions to a special type of unit equations in two unknowns, III, <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2403.20037" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2403.20037">arXiv:2403.20037</a>].

Abstract:We study solutions to the equation $a+b=c$, where $a,b,c$ form a triple of coprime natural numbers. The $abc$ conjecture asserts that, for any $\epsilon>0$, such triples satisfy $\mathrm{rad}(abc) \ge c^{1-\epsilon}$ with finitely many exceptions. In this article we obtain a power-saving bound on the exceptional set of triples. Specifically, we show that there are $O(X^{33/50})$ integer triples $(a,b,c)\in [1,X]^3$, which satisfy $\mathrm{rad}(abc) < c^{1-\epsilon}$. The proof is based on a combination of bounds for the density of integer points on varieties, coming from the determinant method, Thue equations, geometry of numbers, and Fourier analysis.

Abstract:Due to some intrinsic features of images, such as bulk data capacity, some traditional encryption algorithms are not suitable. The encryption scheme based on the discretized baker map is rapid and safe. This paper suggests there are three primary factors that threaten the security of the scheme. On the general formula of the discretized baker map the paper proposes an enhanced arithmetic. The experimental tests and results show that the arithmetic is efficient. Moreover the arithmetic is valid for other maps such as cat map. © 2006 IEEE.

Abstract:Let $ n $ be a positive integer with $ n > 1 $ and let $ a, b $ be fixed coprime positive integers with $ \min\{a, b\} > 2 $. In this paper, using the Baker method, we proved that, for any $ n $, if $ a > \max\{15064b, b^{3/2}\} $, then the equation $ (an)^x+(bn)^y = ((a+b)n)^z $ has no positive integer solutions $ (x, y, z) $ with $ x > z > y $. Further, let $ A, B $ be coprime positive integers with $ \min\{A, B\} > 1 $ and $ 2|B $. Combining the above conclusion with some existing results, we deduced that, for any $ n $, if $ (a, b) = (A^2, B^2), A > \max\{123B, B^{3/2}\} $ and $ B\equiv 2\pmod 4 $, then this equation has only the positive integer solution $ (x, y, z) = (1, 1, 1). $ Thus, we proved that the conjecture proposed by Yuan and Han is true for this case.

Abstract:For coprime positive integers $a, b, c$, where $a+b=c$, $\gcd(a,b,c)=1$ and $1\leq a < b$, the famous $abc$ conjecture (Masser and Oesterlè, 1985) states that for $\varepsilon > 0$, only finitely many $abc$ triples satisfy $c > R(abc)^{1+\varepsilon}$, where $R(n)$ denotes the radical of $n$. We examine the patterns in squarefree factors of binary additive partitions of positive integers to elucidate the claim of the conjecture. With $abc$ hit referring to any $(a, b, c)$ triple satisfying $R(abc)<c$, we show an algorithm to generate hits forming infinite sequences within sets of equivalence classes of positive integers. Integer patterns in such sequences of hits are heuristically consistent with the claim of the conjecture.

Abstract:The abc conjecture is one of the most famous unsolved problems in number theory. The conjecture claims for each real $\epsilon > 0$ that there are only a finite number of coprime positive integer solutions to the equation $a+b = c$ with $c > (rad(a b c))^{1+\epsilon}$. If true, the abc conjecture would imply many other famous theorems and conjectures as corollaries. In this paper, we discuss the abc conjecture and find new applications to powerful numbers, which are integers $n$ for which $p^2 | n$ for every prime $p$ such that $p | n$. We answer several questions from an earlier paper on this topic, assuming the truth of the abc conjecture.

Abstract:By an $abc$ triple, we mean a triple $(a,b,c)$ of relatively prime positive integers $a,b,$ and $c$ such that $a+b=c$ and $\operatorname{rad}(abc)<c$, where $\operatorname{rad}(n)$ denotes the product of the distinct prime factors of $n$. The study of $abc$ triples is motivated by the $abc$ conjecture, which states that for each $\epsilon>0$, there are finitely many $abc$ triples $(a,b,c)$ such that $\operatorname{rad}(abc)^{1+\epsilon}<c$. The necessity of the $\epsilon$ in the $abc$ conjecture is demonstrated by the existence of infinitely many $abc$ triples. For instance, $\left( 1,9^{k}-1,9^{k}\right) $ is an $abc$ triple for each positive integer $k$. In this article, we study $abc$ triples of the form $\left(1,c-1,c\right) $ and deduce two general results that allow us to recover existing sequences of $abc$ triples having $a=1$ that are in the literature.

Abstract:We survey Vojta's higher-dimensional generalizations of the $abc$ conjecture and Szpiro's conjecture as well as recent developments that apply them to various problems in arithmetic dynamics. In particular, the "$abcd$ conjecture" implies a dynamical analogue of a conjecture on the uniform boundedness of torsion points and a dynamical analogue of Lang's conjecture on lower bounds for canonical heights.

Abstract:The ABC conjecture implies many conjectures and theorems in number theory, including the celebrated Fermat's Last Theorem. Mason-Stothers Theorem is a function field analogue of the ABC conjecture that admits a much more elementary proof with many interesting consequences, including a polynomial version of Fermat's Last Theorem. While years of dedicated effort are expected for a full formalization of Fermat's Last Theorem, the simple proof of Mason-Stothers Theorem and its corollaries calls for an immediate formalization. We formalize an elementary proof of by Snyder in Lean 4, and also formalize many consequences of Mason-Stothers, including (i) non-solvability of Fermat-Cartan equations in polynomials, (ii) non-parametrizability of a certain elliptic curve, and (iii) Davenport's Theorem. We compare our work to existing formalizations of Mason-Stothers by Eberl in Isabelle and Wagemaker in Lean 3 respectively. Our formalization is based on the mathlib4 library of Lean 4, and is currently being ported back to mathlib4.

Abstract:The complex dynamics of baker's map and its variants in an infinite-precision mathematical domain have been extensively analyzed in the past five decades. However, their real structure implemented in a finite-precision computer remains unclear. This paper gives an explicit formulation for the quantized baker's map and its extension into higher dimensions. Our study reveals certain properties, such as the in-degree distribution in the state-mapping network approaching a constant with increasing precision, and a consistent maximum in-degree across various levels of fixed-point arithmetic precision. We also observe a fractal pattern in baker's map functional graph as precision increases, characterized by fractal dimensions. We then thoroughly examine the structural nuances of functional graphs created by the higher-dimensional baker's map (HDBM) in both fixed-point and floating-point arithmetic domains. An interesting aspect of our study is the use of interval arithmetic to establish a relationship between the HDBM's functional graphs across these two computational domains. A particularly intriguing discovery is the emergence of a semi-fractal pattern within the functional graph of a specific baker's map variant, observed as the precision is incrementally increased. The insights gained from our research offer a foundational understanding for the dynamic analysis and application of baker's map and its variants in various domains.

Improved lower bounds for strong $n$-conjectures

Abstract:The well-known $abc$-conjecture concerns triples $(a,b,c)$ of non-zero integers that are coprime and satisfy ${a+b+c=0}$. The strong $n$-conjecture is a generalisation to $n$ summands where integer solutions of the equation ${a_1 + \ldots + a_n = 0}$ are considered such that the $a_i$ are pairwise coprime and satisfy a certain subsum condition. Ramaekers studied a variant of this conjecture with a slightly different set of conditions. He conjectured that in this setting the limit superior of the so-called qualities of the admissible solutions equals $1$ for any $n$. In this article, we follow results of Konyagin and Browkin. We restrict to a smaller, and thus more demanding, set of solutions, and improve the known lower bounds on the limit superior: for ${n \geq 6}$ we achieve a lower bound of $\frac54$; for odd $n \geq 5$ we even achieve $\frac53$. In particular, Ramaekers's conjecture is false for every ${n \ge 5}$.

Abstract:Matthew Baker investigated, in previous work, an elegant, infinite-length game that may be used to study subsets of real numbers. We present two accessible examples of how an important technique from set theory, or a different technique from infinite game theory, may be used to answer Baker's question on whether this game provides a precise characterization for countable subsets of real numbers, and we connect this game to the well-studied Banach-Mazur game from topology.
